It only stands to reason that where there's sacrifice, there's someone collecting the sacrificial offerings. Where there's service, there is someone being served. The man who speaks to you of sacrifice is speaking of slaves and masters, and intends to be the master. Ayn Rand
155 years ago, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled in favor of slavery, in one of the darkest moments in American history. Last week, the United States Supreme Court ruled again in favor of slavery -- more subtly, of course.
Pamela Geller, PJ Media, July 4, 2012
Back in 1857, the U.S. Supreme Court issued a ruling that forever changed the course of human history. Infamously known as the Dred Scott Decision, the U.S. SCOTUS ruled, according to Wikipedia, that states that outlawed slavery could not forbid slaveowners from bringing slaves into their states and holding them as slaves there. Chief Justice Roger B. Taney wrote that blacks were “beings of an inferior order, and altogether unfit to associate with the white race, either in social or political relations, and so far inferior that they had no rights which the white man was bound to respect.”
This was a shocking violation of the founding principle of our great republic, individual rights. Clearly this was motivated by personal subjectivity and partisan politics. And here we are again, courtesy Chief Justice John Roberts.
The issue of slavery was always a contentious issue that our Founding Fathers battled with and only acquiesced to the South’s demands when it became painfully clear that there would be no United States of America if they banished slavery. The thinking, of course, was that it would be determined at a future date. And it was. It was bloodily and brutally settled with the Civil War.
Judge Roberts’ decision will have the same deleterious outcome. His unconstitutional decision on Obamacare mandates the slavery of the American people to the U.S. Government, forcing us to make decisions about our health care in accord with government fiat. And the taxes will prove to be so prohibitive as to enslave the people and make all productive Americans wards of the Federal Government. “To be a socialist,” said Josef Goebbels, “is to submit the I to the Thou. Socialism is sacrificing the individual to the whole.” Is that not what Obama is doing?
“Socialism,” said Ayn Rand, “is the doctrine that man has no right to exist for his own sake, that his life and his work do not belong to him, but belong to society, that the only justification of his existence is his service to society, and that society may dispose of him in any way it pleases for the sake of whatever it deems to be its own tribal, collective good.” Obamacare mandates exactly that: the productive exist for the aid of the non-productive, and all must change their behavior to conform with what the state prescribes as the good.
Roberts’ decision, like Taney’s, will not be without consequences. I fear that it will result in rage and the blind violence of a civil war. The American people cannot be cowed into resignation, submission, or passivity. As Ayn Rand said: “Defiance, not obedience, is the Americans’ answer to overbearing authority. The Nation that ran an Underground Railroad to help human beings escape from slavery, or began drinking on principle in the face of Prohibition, will not say ‘Yes, sir,’ to the enforcers” of socialized medicine. Not yet, anyway.
“It is not our job to protect the people from the consequences of their political choices,” Roberts wrote. It is not his job to make that determination. It is his job to determine the Constitutionality of particular laws. The only good thing that can be taken away from the Dred Scott Decision was that they ruled, for the very first time, that an act of Congress was unconstitutional – so a precedent had been set, even if it was a horrible decision. Obamacare undermines and nullifies states’ rights, much the way the Dred Scott Decision did.
It gets better. Go here, read the whole thing.
Because as we spend ourselves into oblivion and servitude, it's important to know that we failed when we betrayed capitalism. Capitalism is a social system based on the recognition of individual rights, including property rights, in which all property is privately owned.
Today Paul Ryan took a step in the right direction.
The nineteenth century was the ultimate product and expression of the intellectual trend of the Renaissance and the Age of Reason, which means: of a predominantly Aristotelian philosophy. And, for the first time in history, it created a new economic system, the necessary corollary of political freedom, a system of free trade on a free market: capitalism.
No, it was not a full, perfect, unregulated, totally laissez-faire capitalism—as it should have been. Various degrees of government interference and control still remained, even in America—and this is what led to the eventual destruction of capitalism. But the extent to which certain countries were free was the exact extent of their economic progress. America, the freest, achieved the most.
Never mind the low wages and the harsh living conditions of the early years of capitalism. They were all that the national economies of the time could afford. Capitalism did not create poverty—it inherited it. Compared to the centuries of precapitalist starvation, the living conditions of the poor in the early years of capitalism were the first chance the poor had ever had to survive. As proof—the enormous growth of the European population during the nineteenth century, a growth of over 300 per cent, as compared to the previous growth of something like 3 per cent per century.
“Faith and Force: The Destroyers of the Modern World,”
Philosophy: Who Needs It, 66
If you want to prove to yourself the power of ideas and, particularly, of morality—the intellectual history of the nineteenth century would be a good example to study. The greatest, unprecedented, undreamed of events and achievements were taking place before men’s eyes—but men did not see them and did not understand their meaning, as they do not understand it to this day. I am speaking of the industrial revolution, of the United States and of capitalism. For the first time in history, men gained control over physical nature and threw off the control of men over men—that is: men discovered science and political freedom. The creative energy, the abundance, the wealth, the rising standard of living for every level of the population were such that the nineteenth century looks like a fiction-Utopia, like a blinding burst of sunlight, in the drab progression of most of human history. If life on earth is one’s standard of value, then the nineteenth century moved mankind forward more than all the other centuries combined.
Did anyone appreciate it? Does anyone appreciate it now? Has anyone identified the causes of that historical miracle?
They did not and have not. What blinded them? The morality of altruism.
Let me explain this. There are, fundamentally, only two causes of the progress of the nineteenth century—the same two causes which you will find at the root of any happy, benevolent, progressive era in human history. One cause is psychological, the other existential—or: one pertains to man’s consciousness, the other to the physical conditions of his existence. The first is reason, the second is freedom. And when I say “freedom,” I do not mean poetic sloppiness, such as “freedom from want” or “freedom from fear” or “freedom from the necessity of earning a living.” I mean “freedom from compulsion—freedom from rule by physical force.” Which means: political freedom.

TODAY, PAUL RYAN'S BUDGET CHANGES POLITICS AS WE KNOW IT:
--One side of the Republican brain says: This is adult politics - serious ideas, constituting the most serious federal rollback of our lifetime. But the dominant Republican brain says: Are you nuts? The American people want more government than they can pay for, and we're walking into a political buzz saw. We could lose the House majority if this message is mishandled: There's a good reason tea-party candidates didn't talk specifics.
--One side of the Democratic brain says: We don't like Ryan's ideas, but at least he's engaging on unavoidable issues, and ones that independents care about and will reward us for confronting. But the dominant Democratic brain says: Bring it on! The Republicans are handing us a political windfall, and we're sure to get back the seniors we lost in 2008.
FIRST LOOK - "The Path to Prosperity: America's two futures, visualized": A 3-minute House Budget Committee video brings the "debt crisis" to life with a shirt-sleeved Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) in his committee's hearing room:
"The United States is heading toward a debt crisis. The only solutions will be truly painful for us all. That doesn't have to be our future. The way we respond to THIS challenge will ultimately define our generation. ... I asked the Congressional Budget Office to model the economy going forward. ... The computer program CRASHES in 2037, because it can't conceive of any way in which the U.S. economy can continue, because of this massive burden of debt. ... Here's what would happen under OUR proposed budget - what we're calling 'The Path to Prosperity.' ... How will we do it? We will CUT SPENDING. ... Washington HAS NOT been telling you the truth." YouTube above.
--The video aims to communicate in an innovative, visually-appealing way - offering a sober assessment of fiscal and economic challenges, and ringing alarm bells with clarity; but also offering an optimistic, Jack-Kempesque growth message - Ryan as happy warrior, framing a daunting challenge as an historic opportunity.
--DAVID BROOKS, "Moment of Truth": "The Ryan budget will not be enacted this year, but it will immediately reframe the domestic policy debate. ... It will become the 2012 Republican platform, no matter who is the nominee. ... It also creates the pivotal moment of truth for President Obama. Will he come up with his own counterproposal, or will he simply demagogue the issue by railing against 'savage' Republican cuts and ignoring the long-term fiscal realities?" (more here)
-- Jake Sherman and Richard E. Cohen: "Ryan will roll out a blueprint Tuesday that could slash up to $6 trillion in the next 10 years from spending, reforms and cuts entitlements, and overhauls sections of the tax code. Never mind that Ryan's ambitious vision has no chance of passing the Democratic Senate - the 2012 budget is likely to provide Republicans with a measure of unity they've been lacking as they try to wrap up work on the stalled 2011 spending plan." --Ryan and his Budget Committee colleagues hold a presser at 10:30 a.m. at the Capitol. Ryan speaks at AEI at noon. More here.
--Ryan op-ed in WSJ: "This budget would focus on growth by reforming the nation's outdated tax code, consolidating brackets, lowering tax rates, and assuming top individual and corporate rates of 25%." Free link here.
The leftists armies and O-thugocracy suffered a stunning defeat in their war on America. This is huge. The left thought they owned us, in order to continue to enslave us and bankrupt our children, their children and our great nation. The left thought they had the muscle and the collectivist army and the polticians in their pockets, and that they could continue to bleed dry the American worker -- the real American worker, not the scammers, the looters, the moochers.
We won. Elections matter. Get involved.
The GOP Senate simply outsmarted Obama’s bloated public unions.
In a historic vote last night, the Wisconsin Senate approved the most critical part of Governor Scott Walker’s budget repair bill.
By eliminating collective bargaining over benefits, Obama’s bloated public employee unions no longer have absolute power to hold taxpayers hostage.
No longer will Wisconsin’s liberal politicians award lavish pension and health benefit packages to their union cronies in exchange for a mother-load of campaign cash and votes.
The Wisconsin Senate requires a quorum to vote on any bill that spends money. This is how the 14 AWOL senators shamefully managed to block a vote on Scott Walker’s budget-repair bill.
So Republicans simply stripped the non-fiscal portion off of the bill. The Senate then voted on it as a stand-alone measure, one that doesn’t spend money!
This is a huge victory not only for Wisconsin, but for all of America.
The left has declared war on you. The organized leftwing machine is in high gear, busing their bots -- free lunch and per diem included -- into Madison, Wisconsin, to bully the heavily-burdened taxpayers into handing over what they don't have.
On the other side, thousands of free people are gathering from across the state, no free lunch, no payment, just righteous proud hardworking Americans standing against collectivism, statism and slavery. If you are anywhere near there, go. Now, finally, is the time to fight a parasitical infrastructure that is so entrenched that it threatens to devastate our nation. This is war. Fight.
The artificially high wages forced on the economy by compulsory unionism imposed economic hardships on other groups—particularly on non-union workers and on unskilled labor, which was being squeezed gradually out of the market. Today’s widespread unemployment is the result of organized labor’s privileges and of allied measures, such as minimum wage laws. For years, the unions supported these measures and sundry welfare legislation, apparently in the belief that the costs would be paid by taxes imposed on the rich.
....the major victim of government spending and of taxation is the middle class. Organized labor is part of the middle class—and the actual value of labor’s forced “social gains” is now being wiped out.

Slave-master, corporate blackmailer, demagogue and media dahlink Jesse Jackson Jr. greets protesters crowding the State capital grounds
The biggest rally yet is expected on Saturday following four straight days of protests by union supporters. The conservative tea party movement urged its supporters to stage a counter-protest in Madison to support new Republican Gov. Scott Walker's proposal to ease the Midwestern state's budget woes by cutting many government workers' pay, pension and health care benefits and bargaining rights.
Dane County Sheriff Dave Mahoney predicted crowds could swell to as many as 70,000 people on Saturday and said his department planned to add 60 deputies to the 100 who patrolled during the week.
About 200 protesters spent the night at the Capitol, and on Saturday morning, many walked around wearing signs declaring the protest peaceful. Several said they were concerned that the four days of violence-free protests would be disrupted Saturday when busloads of tea party activists arrived.
Sue Anderson, 44, of Prairie Du Sac said she had been at the Capitol for three of the four days of protests was prepared to insert herself between people if a fight started.
"They know better," she said. "I don't know much about the tea party, but I know this group is pretty mellow."
The workers and students have been bolstered by state Senate Democrats who fled Wisconsin to delay action on Walker's proposal and threatened to stay in hiding for weeks if calls for negotiation go unheeded. State troopers were sent to retrieve the Democratic minority leader from his home Friday, but their knocks went unanswered.
One of those Democrats said Saturday the group had no plans to return over the weekend although they would meet outside the state later in the day.
Sen. Jon Erpenbach said Democrats want Walker to seriously consider a deal under which public employees would agree to pay more for benefits as long as they kept their rights to collectively bargain. The bill calls for the elimination of collective bargaining except over wage increases not greater than the Consumer Price Index.
Walker has said he would not accept that deal. A Walker spokesman said the governor was spending time with his family Saturday, but he didn't say where.
Go, Scott, go!

This is an update from Jim. He’s on the ground and in the thick of things. He will be phoning in updates throughout the day.
Thousands of people are at the capitol today. Impossible to tell who the friendlies are right now.
The unions are out in force! The Barack Obama organizers are waiting for us. I can hear the crowd from blocks away.
Kerry Pickett called- “Leftist Organizers are begging union supporters not to confront opponents.”
Stay tuned for updates.
UPDATE: Thousands of Walker’s supporters. Massive crowd. Chanting “Go Scott Go!” and “Pass The Bill!”
The pro-union protest ended at noon but thousands of union backers are still hanging around.
UPDATE: Inside the Capitol Building the pro-union groups are chanting. It’s deafening. I had to go to a back room to phone in this update.
Left fascists exploiting our children, pulled from school. It's time to throw down the gauntlet.
I have been so overwhelmed with the worldwide Islamic revolutions that I have neglected to report on the statists' and collectivists' war on the individual currently playing out in Wisconsin.
The outrageous actions of union thugs demanding further indentured slavery from the average American taxpayer and holding citizens hostage cannot stand. Shutting schools and dragging children to their communist putsch is beyond the pale.
We are sick and tired of underwriting the movement that is sucking the lifeblood out of this country. We are broke. And the unions are kicking America in the teeth. These moochers and looters want their pensions, their benefits, their sick days, their silly work rules, their pay raises ........ despite the terrible economic realities facing the real Americans. You must stand up and it must be now.
The state is broke. The left wing thugs don't care. Our children rank 27th and 29th in the industrialized world in math and science. And still these vultures demand their golden packages. We are broke, and the haves want their protection money from the have nots.
Stand up against this army of moochers and destroyers. We need you today: 12:00pm - 3:00pm
Wisconsin State Capitol, East Side of the Building. Get in your car, your pick-up, the greyhound, whatever. PUSH BACK.
Fellow Tea Partiers,
Please share the following with others... thanks!
1. Our thanks to Tea Party Patriots, who passed on the following to us:
"In the current situation in Wisconsin, we see Democratic politicians and their constituency standing against [the people]. Instead of responding to the will of the people, Democratic legislators are in hiding, and refusing to show for a vote which they are certain to lose. Teachers have closed down the schools. Union thugs have overrun the capitol and are damaging property, and carrying signs with crude abuse and threats. Meanwhile, instead of acting 'Presidential' and calling for a restoration of the democratic process, civility and decency, the President and his Organizing for America are actually standing against [the citizens of] Wisconsin."
"In summary, here is what we see in Wisconsin: Democratic legislators in hiding and not legislating, teachers on sick-out and not teaching, and students out of school and not learning. Most importantly, we see our President, who is supposed to be a leader, not 'leading.' Is it any wonder that public opinion has turned against the President, the Democrats, public employee unions and their thugs?"
"We would like to thank American Majority for spearheading the rally in Madison [on Saturday, February 19th]. They have done an excellent job leading the effort organizing the rally.

Things are getting out of hand! This letter came from a doctor in Danville, IL.
Dear Mr. Limbaugh,
I was speaking to an emergency room physician this morning. He told me that a woman in her 20’s came to the ER with her 8th pregnancy. She stated “my momma told me that I am the breadwinner for the family.” He asked her to explain. She said that she can make babies and babies get money for the family. The scam goes like this: The grandma calls the Department of Child and Family Services and states that the unemployed daughter is not capable of caring for these children. DCFS agrees and states that the child or children will need to go to foster care. The grandma then volunteers to be the foster parent, and thus receives a check for $1500 per child per month in Illinois. Total yearly income: $144,000 tax-free, not to mention free healthcare (Medicaid) plus a monthly “Linx” card entitling her to free groceries, etc, and a voucher for 250 free cell phone minutes per month. This does not even include Wick and other welfare programs. Indeed, grandma was correct in that her fertile daughter is the “breadwinner” in the family.
I hope you share this story with your listeners so that they know how the ruling class spends their tax dollars.
Also, many thanks for the fine service you provide in educating people about the merits of conservative thinking.

President Obama came to downtown New York today to warn us "not to fight him" as he does a Hugo Chavez on Wall Street. Yes, the gangsta from Chicago whose party acts like a thug, and fights, smears, and destroys America in General Sherman style, is telling the serfs to just go quietly into the dark night.
His marxist plans for Wall Street will destroy this city. Wall Street is the engine of the world's capital. Unlike in the old days, when you have many sectors (i.e., manufacturing) supporting the economy of this town, before those sectors were decimated by unions, today Wall Street and Social Services are the big employers and economic drivers of the city. And what supports social services? Head slap!
I ran this back in September 2005: by Steven
Malanga in City Journal
A big chunk of what has passed for private-sector job growth in New York has also occurred in industries that are nominally private but are actually supported by tax revenues and therefore don’t create wealth but at best merely redistribute it. These industries—health care and social services—have accounted for nearly half the city’s job growth in the past 12 months and now represent 18 percent of all “private”-sector jobs in the city. Moreover, concentrated in areas like nonprofit social-services agencies, home health-care services, and nursing homes, these are mostly low-wage jobs. The typical home health-care job in the city, for instance, pays about $25,000 a year. New York will never earn back its title as one of the country’s leading entrepreneurial centers when tax-supported low-wage jobs account for so much of its economic growth.
Anyone who has watched the long decline of New York’s economy—which today employs nearly 200,000 fewer people than 35 years ago—will understand what’s happening, because it has happened before, repeatedly. The city’s economic slide began in the mid-1960s, when city and state pols began sharply raising taxes to pay for an expanded social agenda—saddling New York with the heaviest tax burden among U.S. cities. Today, Gotham taxes residents and businesses at about 75 percent more than the average of the next ten largest American cities—and that startling percentage is growing. Over the past 35 years, those high taxes have sucked billions out of the private sector, depriving it of needed capital for expansion and ultimately driving away thousands of businesses, including around a hundred Fortune 500 firms, and leaving fewer quality jobs for New Yorkers. A 1997 City Journal study concluded that if New York’s taxes had been in line with those of other old industrial cities, Gotham would have 1 million more jobs than it actually has.
The city’s Giuliani-era economic revival should have provided a blueprint for how to address Gotham’s post-9/11 challenges, for the 1990s was the one period in last 35 years when the city’s economy outperformed the nation’s, growing by 440,000 jobs and bringing New York back to its 1969 job peak shortly before the terrorists struck. Faced with budget deficits when he took office in 1993, Mayor Giuliani refused to raise taxes but instead shrank the size of government and slowly began cutting taxes. When Wall Street boomed and poured tax dollars into the city’s coffers, Giuliani used the resultant budget surpluses to cut taxes further, reducing the overall tax rate by about 10 percent, still much higher than most major cities. Even so, the cuts sent a message that New York no longer viewed the business community as a gigantic revenue source to be shaken down at every opportunity. Spurred by Giuliani, New York went ten years without a tax increase, although rising profits and property values propelled by economic revival still boosted tax collections and helped fill the city’s coffers.
Read it all. It's the only lesson in capitalism vs socialism you will ever need.
Bleak indeed. Doesn't help the situation when non-profit organizations, designed to assist poor children and elderly, steal from those non-profit/non-taxed coffers to fill the coffers of the very people who have the radio air power to influence voters into believing that rich people are evil (especially Repugs), or school principals who encourage parents to lie about their income in order to garner receive additional milk-money funds. I have no doubt that these are just a few examples in the vast wasteland of corruption called Socialism.
The tragedy is that NYer's will look upon Clinton as being the one who brought about NYC's economic expansion during the 1990's, rather than giving credit to Giuliani's 'low taxation' influence.
Why is it so difficult to comprehend the simple fact that taxing people to death causes poverty?
Obama will rout this town.
He dares preach to us about a "license to steal," when that is all the government is in the business of doing. It's all the government does -- steal. Government = force. I am drowning in irony over here.
Wait, it gets better worse.
While I was hurrying about -- Atlas readers will correct me if I am wrong -- the only 'Jews' I saw protesting Obama's anti-semitic policies in israel and his insistence on ethnic cleansing Israel and Jerusalem of its Jews were the nazis in Kosher clothing.
Yes the vampires of the disgusting Neturei Karta, shunned and despised in Israel and by menschen everywhere, never miss an opportunity to stand with Islamic anti-semites and against the Jewish people. Hashem has a very special place for this cancer on our people.
Evil always exists. No surprise there. But where were the Jews standing for Israel? Why were these morally ill and soulless bastards the only Jews on the front in the informational battlespace, where the wars that lead to wars are fought?

It's tax day. 50% of American households don't pay federal tax. So pay up, slave!
An Inconvenient Tax
Today is Tax Day -- and it is also the premiere of An Inconvenient Tax, a new documentary about one of our messiest problems: a fundamentally broken tax code that affects every aspect of our lives. With over 16,000 changes to the tax code in the last two decades alone, many Americans want something better -- but few know where to start. This feature-length documentary film describes the complex evolution of the tax code through U.S. history and reveals the many ways Congress uses the tax code to achieve political goals that have nothing to do with raising revenue.
Tonight, John Stossel will devote an episode of his new Fox Business Network show to the issue of tax reform. An Inconvenient Tax filmmakers Vincent Vittorio and Chris Marshall will appear as special guests. Stossel airs at 8 p.m. and 12 midnight EST.
An Inconvenient Tax will be screening today in over forty locations nationwide, including theaters in Georgia, Texas, Florida, North Carolina, Virginia, and Wisconsin. The film will also show at Harvard, M.I.T, University of Florida, New York University, Gonzaga University, Syracuse University, University of Michigan, University of Georgia, Chapman University, Arizona State University, Berkeley, University of Baltimore, University of Miami, Temple University, and more. An Inconvenient Tax will even screen internationally in Australia and Israel! Visit the film's official website to watch the trailer and to get showtimes, ticket info, and locations.
And the Morning Bell: How Tax Day Became Payday
For just over half of all Americans today is Tax Day. But for the other half it is just another day on the calendar. That’s because they pay no federal income taxes. The old saying goes “you can’t get something for nothing.” But these “non-payers” receive government services and benefits without chipping in.
If more taxpayers continue to drop off the tax rolls, we will soon pass the dangerous tipping point
The explosion of tax credits in recent years is the main reason that more than half of all taxpayers could soon pay no federal income taxes. Both political parties are fond of credits because they can use them to target benefits at politically valuable groups – think credits for buying hybrid cars or improving the energy efficiency of your home, for instance.
To make matters worse, most non-payers not only pay no income taxes, they actually collect cash payments through the tax code. For these recipients of government redistribution, Tax Day has become pay day. They get this cash because of refundable tax credits. Refundable credits can not only wipe out all of a taxpayer’s income tax liability, but also send them cash for any remaining credit value. President Barack Obama once promised to simplify the tax code, but his agenda has actually made this problem much worse.
The President's failed $862 billion stimulus plan created the Making Work Pay refundable tax credit which redistributes up to $800 to filers earning less than $190,000 per year. The stimulus also: expanded the Hope Scholarship credit (renamed the American Opportunity Education credit) and made it refundable; expanded the child tax credit; and expanded the earned income tax credit (EITC). In 2010, the three largest refundable credits (the earned income tax credit, the Making Work Pay credit and the child tax credit) will redistribute over $114 billion from payers to non-payers.
To fund these giveaways, President Obama campaigned on a plan to raise the top two income tax rates for those earning more than $250,000 per year ($200,000 for single filers). Already the top 10% of income earners pay 71% of all federal income tax revenue. This may seem like a great deal for non-payers, but ultimately there is no such thing as a free lunch. Redistributing wealth through the tax code only stifles innovation and job creation. Small-businesses employ just over half of U.S. workers and a recent study by the Kaufman Foundation found that small businesses have led America out of its last seven recessions, generating about two of every three new jobs during a recovery. But since most small businesses are unincorporated, so business income is treated as personal income, high income taxes hit small businesses the hardest. So while non-payers may enjoy a once a year pay day from the federal government thanks to all their tax credits, they are also the eventual victims of the resulting small-business-job-killing higher income taxes rates.
The income tax code is supposed raise revenue for necessary government functions while distorting economic behavior as little as possible. Congress should do three things immediately to stop the tax code from being used as a vehicle for social engineering and wealth redistribution:
(1) Stop creating new credits, especially refundable ones. This would stop knocking more taxpayers off the income tax rolls and slow the growth of cash payments through the tax code.
(2) Allow the Making Work Pay Credit to expire. Under current law, the Making Work Pay Credit expires in 2013. Congress should let it expire since it removes many taxpayers from the tax rolls and – because it’s refundable - makes more families dependent on the tax code for income.
(3) Extend the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts for all taxpayers. President Obama has long wanted to raise taxes on those making more than $250,000 a year. Doing so would increase the share of income taxes paid by top-earners and facilitate the move to push the tax code faster to the point where a majority of taxpayers pays no income tax. Extending the tax cuts for all taxpayers would prevent that acceleration.
Fundamental tax reform is the only way to ensure that all Americans have a stake in controlling the size of government. Reversing the rapid expansion of dependency that is being facilitated by the tax code will not be easy. Many tax filers have grown accustomed to not paying taxes and receiving cash payments through the tax code. That is why we’re conducting a Tax Day Money Bomb today to send our elected officials a message that their reckless spending ways must end. Our goal is to raise $150,000 — money that, unlike your tax dollars, won’t be wasted.
...where more than half of taxpayers are non-payers. The individual income tax is the main revenue raiser for federal government. Passing the point where less than half of taxpayers pay it would mean a majority of voters could vote themselves more and more government benefits without incurring any of the costs. In this unstable situation, politicians would have no incentive to restrain government spending since they could garner more votes by increasing it. That is a deadly recipe for never-ending increases in government spending that will inevitably lead to fiscal implosion when there are no longer enough productive taxpayers to foot the bill for the expanding state.
The stench off this rot is intolerable. The unions and their leadership have enslaved free people, and now they hold us hostage to their gluttonous thievery. 100 years ago (child labor, sweat shops etc.), they served their purpose. Now unions are a fancy word for organized crime. You should see their offices on the west side, where Sharpton and Jackson hang their gilded hats.
The days when public-employee unions were responsible citizens was an anomaly. When you have one group that does not have to respond to the market place, whose booty is stolen from the hard working, they have no souls. They steal and their leadership is ganstas and goons -- who have planted their chief goon in the White House.
Selfish state of the unions Michael Goodwin, NY Post
New York state and city are drowning in red ink, but don't waste your breath telling it to government unions. They got theirs, and they'll do anything and everything to keep it.
Gov. Paterson's plan to delay 4 percent raises so the state doesn't run out of cash is met with threats of lawsuits.
Mayor Bloomberg's call for relatively modest spending cuts provokes warnings that the city will sink into the Hudson if a penny is subtracted from bloated budgets.
The way organized labor sees it, sacrifice is for suckers. Let somebody else pay.
There once was a time when public-employee unions were responsible citizens. They saw their members' well-being directly tied to the well-being of the people and institutions they served. The movement was probably more militant 40 years ago, but it famously did its part to help the city out of the fiscal crisis of the '70s.
That is ancient history. The modern movement has seceded from reality.
Instead of recognizing it needs a healthy New York to survive, it aims to bleed the public dry, then demand a bailout. Or maybe it thinks it can just move on to another "host" until it, too, runs out of money.
Haven't the bosses heard? Greed is no longer good.
Oblivious to the pain inflicted on taxpayers less well off than they are, the state teachers union is sticking to its predictions of doomsday if education spending is touched. The union newspaper, New York Teacher, reports President Dick Iannuzzi warned that Paterson's plan to cut $1.7 billion "will devastate New York's schools and colleges and derail any hope for economic recovery."
This is hooey, a ritualistic scaremongering that calls into question the ability of teachers to actually teach if they have no regard for facts. "Albany, do right by our kids," the newspaper de mands on Page 1.
Here's a novel thought: How about unions do right by our kids? If they care about New York stu dents, they'll step up to the plate and help minimize the impact of sensible reductions.
The fat is easy to find. Educrats are spreading like poison ivy at the city's Department of Education.
In the last decade, the payroll has swelled by more than 21,000 teachers and other "pedagogical" employees, pushing the total from 90,000 to 112,000. Meanwhile, student enrollment has declined by about 50,000, to 1.04 million, according to the city's Independent Budget Office.
We know where hundreds of these phantom teachers are -- in the rubber rooms, perfecting their napping skills. Thank ironclad union rules for that giant rip-off.
UPDATE: OT but related:
An anonymous source has revealed the latest raping of the beleaguered American taxpayer.
The latest scam going on, and it is rampant especially within the Department of Homeland Security, as well as the Immigration & Customs Enforcement, is the hiring of retired employees. I know of this occurring in other departments like Department of Defense, but I can only attest to the experience of my informant at the DHS.
Employees retire under the former CSRS (Civil Service Retirement System). These employees get anywhere between 70-90% percent of their salary, plus availability pay. Their salaries are easily in the $120-150K range. At the ICE Academy location alone, former employees retire (five senior managers, GS-15 and up) and walk into the same job the next day, bringing in over $200K -- all under the pretext of a loss of experienced employees (utter nonsense).
They receive NO salary offset.
With a economy in the toilet and real unemployment among the US taxpayer more along the 13-15% range, this really needs exposure as governmental fraud.
While everyone is watching the meltdown over in the now ancient swampland, a little-seen story ran in the Biz section of the New York Times that is ......... monumental. SEIU may be rubbing their grubby, collectivist hands together, but statists don't need unions. It's only a matter of time. Keep it up, keep killing the golden goose of private industry.
Add this to this outrageous factoid: Federal employees making salaries of $100,000 or more jumped from 14% to 19% of civil servants during the recession's first 18 months — and that's before overtime pay and bonuses are counted. Federal workers are enjoying an extraordinary boom time — in pay and hiring — during a recession that has cost 7.3 million jobs in the private sector.
Most U.S. Union Members Are Working for the Government, New Data Shows
For the first time in American history, a majority of union members are government workers rather than private-sector employees, the Bureau of Labor Statistics announced on Friday.
In its annual report on union membership, the bureau undercut the longstanding notion that union members are overwhelmingly blue-collar factory workers. It found that membership fell so fast in the private sector in 2009 that the 7.9 million unionized public-sector workers easily outnumbered those in the private sector, where labor’s ranks shrank to 7.4 million, from 8.2 million in 2008…
According to the labor bureau, 7.2 percent of private-sector workers were union members last year, down from 7.6 percent the previous year. That, labor historians said, was the lowest percentage of private-sector workers in unions since 1900.
Among government workers, union membership grew to 37.4 percent last year, from 36.8 percent in 2008…
The overall unionization rate edged lower, to 12.3 percent last year from 12.4 percent in 2008.
According to the labor bureau, median weekly earnings for full-time unionized workers were $908 last year, compared with $710 for workers not represented by unions. The bureau attributed this difference not just to unionization but also to variations by occupation, industry and company size.
Notwithstanding the recession, government employment grew last year, inching up 16,000, to 22,516,000, according to the bureau.
Fred Siegel, a visiting professor of history at St. Francis College in Brooklyn and a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute, a conservative research organization, said, “There were enormous political ramifications” to the fact that public-sector workers are now the majority in organized labor.
“At the same time the country is being squeezed, public-sector unions are a rising political force in the Democratic Party,” he said. “They depend on extra money for the public sector, and that puts the Democrats in a difficult position. In four big states — New York, New Jersey, Illinois and California — the public-sector unions have largely been untouched by the economic downturn. In those states, you have an impeding clash between the public-sector unions and the public at large.” …
Noting that union members generally have higher earnings, Labor Secretary Hilda Solis said in a statement: “As workers across the country have seen their real and nominal wages decline as a result of the recession, these numbers show a need for Congress to pass legislation to level the playing field to enable more American workers to access the benefits of union membership. This report makes clear why the administration supports the Employee Free Choice Act,” a bill that would make it easier to unionize.” …
Sweetness and Light adds:
Even the Soviet Union saw that that unions were unnecessary when everyone worked for the state.
The only real reason for them in this country, is to create political slush funds – for the Democrat Party.
Something government workers would not otherwise be allowed to do.
In response to errors on recovery.gov (the White House’s effort of unprecedented transparency):
"We know what the problem is and we are trying to fix it,'' said Pound. Asked why recipients would pluck random numbers - 26, 45, 14 - to fill in for their congressional district, Pound replied, "who knows, man, who really knows. There are 130,000 reports out there.''
It's kinda breathtaking - the contempt they have for our money. Debauched.
The thing is that nobody wants this abortion of a rout. America has spoken and the autocrats in DC are ignoring the will of the American people. They are steamrolling over "we, the people." The Democrats want to steal 1/6 of the American economy. This is what is so galling. People have to get organized and revolt against this oppression.
Here are the latest news updates on the Marxist assault on the American people, the American economy and the Constitution. This cannot stand.

Calling the cops on Grandma. Unbelievable. Aside from the fact that it is an anathema to our very breathing as a nation, worse yet, the corrupt media keeps all this evil from the American people.
Imagine the horror if this happened under a Bush administration, which of course, it wouldn't have. But this shows the true face of the left. Ugly.

Police called on retirees at senator's LA office San Francisco Gate (hat tip Laura)
Police were called on a group of retirees who refused to leave Sen. Dianne Feinstein's West Los Angeles office until she talked to them about health care reform.
Los Angeles police Sergeant Rich Brunson said Thursday that police lured the group of seven outside somehow, then locked the building's doors behind them.
Brunson had said earlier that eight people were being taken into custody, but corrected himself after getting new details from officers on the scene.
A spokeswoman for the 55- to 87-year-old activists said they arrived at Feinstein's office around noon and remained in her conference room more than six hours.

-- CBO: 5,600,000 Illegal Aliens May Be Covered Under ObamaCare Congressman Steve King (R-IA), the Ranking Member on the House Immigration Subcommittee, today spoke against illegal aliens receiving health care benefits under the liberals’ so-called health care reform proposal:
“Taxpaying families, already weighed down by bailouts and massive spending bills, cannot afford to pay for health insurance for millions of illegal aliens. Hard and smart working Iowans should not be forced pay for illegal aliens to obtain health benefits under any health care reform plan.
“It is wrong to reward law breakers. The American people are speaking loud and clear and saying, ‘No health care for illegal aliens.’”
-- Senator: Democrats "Baffled" By President's Health Care Stance
With the public’s trust in his handling of health care tanking (50%-44% of Americans disapprove), the White House has launched a new phase of its strategy designed to pass Obamacare: all Obama, all the time. As part of that effort, Obama hosted a conference call with leftist bloggers urging them to pressure Congress to pass his health plan as soon as possible.
During the call, a blogger from Maine said he kept running into an Investors Business Daily article that claimed Section 102 of the House health legislation would outlaw private insurance. He asked: “Is this true? Will people be able to keep their insurance and will insurers be able to write new policies even though H.R. 3200 is passed?” President Obama replied: “You know, I have to say that I am not familiar with the provision you are talking about.” (quote begins at 17:10)
This is a truly disturbing admission by the President, especially considering that later in the call, Obama promises yet again: “If you have health insurance, and you like it, and you have a doctor that you like, then you can keep it. Period.” How can Obama keep making this promise if he is not familiar with the health legislation that is being written in Congress? Details matter.
UPDATE: President Called CBO Head to Whitehouse... (hat tip bless)
Fox just reported that President Obama called the head of the CBO to the White House for a meeting after he gave testimony critical of the financial effect of healthcare reform last week.
The CBO does not work for the executive branch. What about separation of powers?
No link yet, just saw it live two minutes ago.
UPDATE: More unrest from Americans. Check out these videos too of Americans speaking out:
Shows Americans Can’t Afford Democrat Health Care Plan
Washington- U.S. Congressman Mike Pence, Chairman of the House Republican Conference, made the following statement today after the independent Congressional Budget Office (CBO) stated that Congressional Democrats’ health care reform would increase already rising health care costs:
“Today’s announcement by the independent CBO confirms what Republicans have been saying all along: the health care proposal by Congressional Democrats amounts to a government takeover of our health care economy that will be paid for by small business owners and working Americans at a time when they can least afford it. Launching a massive new government bureaucracy with higher taxes on individuals and small businesses during the worst recession in a quarter century is a profoundly bad idea.”
And I bet those NY liberals are still kissing the dictator's ass and calling him god. Meanwhile, he sets about to enslave them and the workers, the doers, the successful.
The Republicans are weak, feeble. There is a vacuum, and the moochers, looters, and destroyers are running amok in Congress.
Private insurance is not an option. On Page 16 is a provision making individual private medical insurance illegal. How is this happening? President Bush couldn't make an insignificant change to social security, when he attempted to create private investment accounts, so how is this possible? How can America get ripped to shreds without a murmur?
Obama is taking down our two great strengths. The American economy and the American military are the pillars that made us a hyperpower. Obama is taking them both out. He is bankrupting our country and setting up our troops in Afghanistan to get picked off in a mindless campaign in Afghanistan, while Obama touts the "moderate Taliban".
TERRIFYING 57% TAX LOOMS FOR BIGGEST EARNERS NY Post
Congressional plans to fund a massive health-care overhaul could have a job-killing effect on New York, creating a tax rate of nearly 60 percent for the state's top earners and possibly pressuring small-business owners to shed workers.
That means New York's top earners, small-business owners and most dynamic entrepreneurs will be facing new fees and penalties.
The $544 billion tax hike would violate one of President Obama's ironclad campaign promises: No family will pay higher tax rates than they would have paid in the 1990s.
Under the bill, three new tax brackets would be created for high earners, with a top rate of 45 percent for families making more than $1 million. That would be the highest income-tax rate since 1986, when the top rate was 50 percent.
The legislation is especially onerous for business owners, in part because it penalizes employers with a payroll bigger than $400,000 some 8 percent of wages if they don't offer health care.
But the cost of the buy-in to the program may be so prohibitive that it will dissuade owners from growing their businesses -- a scary prospect in the midst of a recession.
Obama took to the airwaves yesterday with ads and TV interviews promoting the need to reform health care.
As a Senate health committee passed a different version of a health-care reform bill - a milestone for the issue - Obama said on NBC, "The American people have to realize that there's no such thing as a free lunch."
And in a Rose Garden speech, he said the "status quo" on health care is "threatening the financial stability of families, of businesses, and of government. It's unsustainable, and it has to change."
Republicans in Washington and small-business defenders in New York said the House legislation would effectively place a stranglehold on businesses while running off top earners.
Chief: Health Reform Measures Would Weaken Economy|
UPDATE: Health Bill Would OK Forced Vaccinations in Private Homes (hat tip Jonathan Galt)
The healthcare reform bill approved this week by a Senate committee contains language that allows state authorities to intervene in a citizen’s home to ensure that both adult and children family members are properly immunized, according to a report by CNSNews.
The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pension Committee issued a press release this week that summarizes some of the bill’s language.
According to the summary, the bill “authorizes a demonstration program to improve immunization coverage. Under this program, CDC [Centers for Disease Control] will provide grants to states to improve immunization coverage of children, adolescents, and adults through the use of evidence-based interventions.
“States may use funds to implement interventions that are recommended by the Community Preventive Services Task Force, such as reminders or recalls for patients or providers, or home visits.”
