Party Shots Parting Shots

UPDATED UPDATE! ZOGBY- McCain Opens Up a 4 POINT LEAD OORAH!

It is also being reported that McCain had a bigger audience than Obama and McCain was up against a football game which also means that he had less networks covering him. HOOAH!

The left wing media did us an enormous service by attempting to destroy mom and apple pie. I called it here.

I said in my previous post, "The upside of this media firestorm is I believe so many people watched her speech that wouldn't have without the media madness which is a great thing".

Well, Atlas nailed it. The overnights are in from Nielson and 37 million Americans watched PALIN! (19.5 million women, much more then Obama, heh).  As many people watched Palin as watched Barackopolis, that embarrassing spectacle - bread and circuses. What is so amazing, the  Obama build-up for a year, a year, of the stadium speech spectacle with all those Hollyweird stahs!

Beware the venal one. He and his flying monkeys will bare their fangs. Dirty tricks a go go. It's the only way Obama knows how to win. Never on merit.

Here's my nightcap/recap. What promised to be your typical, shiny happy Republican convention was anything but. Slammed by Gustav, tentative cancellations abound. Monday was scratched. Tuesday a question mark .... 80,000 folks, all dressed up with no place to go.

We wanted to help (and we raised a ton of money doing it) but the dirty media would have loved nothing better than show victims suffering in Gustav's wake against a backdrop of partying Rightwing revelers.

So we laid low and commiserated privately there was talk of the convention being canceled...... and then (doodadooda) here come the sun (doodaluda). And we were are off and running.

If I had to define the convention in one word ... PALIN. She is a the standard bearer - a metaphor for how Republicans are systematically treated at the hands of a thug, state media. And she emerges unfettered. Stronger, even. Across from my hotel you are forced to listen to blathering of Chris Matthews , his  daily bellowing, belching, and spewing invectives - A compromised twisted soul spewing invectives at this mother of 5, mayor, governor, hunter, gatherer ....in other words a great American hero. Poor Chris, and Tom, and Wolf, and NPR, and New York Times. PALIN IS AUTHENTIC AND SHE WILL BE THE STANDARD BEARER FOR OUR PARTY. This is a great ticket.

This week, Governor Palin is delivering the weekly radio address for the first time.

DOWNLOAD THE AUDIO FILE HERE: Governor Sarah Palin's Weekly Radio Address:

Sarah Palin represents the very best of our party, she is the future of our party.

She is a Rand character. And so is McCain. Obama is a construct, The last ten minutes of McCain's speech last night was historic. Moved me to tears.  He is the real deal, he will save this nation from anarchists, infiltrators, Islamists, and those that want us to go down.

Obama's team wants us to go down .... and rebuild it in a Marxist model. He's a statist.

We were a rejuvenated group. SUCCOR! We were thrilled, excited -- amidst the Marxists, anarchists, Democrats, islamists, haters and and every self tortured misfits

RNC: LEFTWING RATCHETING UP THEIR VIOLENT WAR ON AMERICA: FLASH BANGS AND GRENADES

WATCH THIS VIDEO (WILL SLOW DOWN PAGE LOAD IF I RUN IT HERE. SO GO HERE, SCROLL

Anti-War Protest at GOP Convention Turns Violent FOX

Rnc_protest_damage Check out the video -- it's is slowing down my site do I moved it to the bottom of the fold.   Bloody_protest_rnc

RNC Protests Day 4 WARNING: The video contains extreme language. St. Paul's wild week of world-class protests ended Thursday with a flurry of demonstrations, mass arrests and traffic-stopping events. The videographer, Ben Garvin, was arrested after this was filmed and eventually released.

PROTEST RNC 2008

This is from the same paper that called these protests "weirdness". The left is morally ill: (Twin Cities)

They've been painted as masked, violent marauders coming from out of state to wreak havoc on St. Paul.

But many of the young people who have been arrested in RNC-related protests are peaceful, college-educated idealists who got swept up by overzealous police, according to protesters, attorneys and parents.

Nearly 400 arrested downtown as the show goes on inside the Xcel

St. Paul's wild week of world-class protests ended Thursday with a flurry of demonstrations, mass arrests and traffic-stopping events.

But as the final protests of the week wound down Thursday night, St. Paul Police Chief John Harrington sighed with relief.

"I'm glad this is almost over," Harrington said during a mass arrest of about 300 people on the Marion Street bridge over Interstate 94.

"I would have loved to have people express their First Amendment rights. But there were people who came here to disrupt, not to protest."

Protestrnc

He said demonstrators wanted to rattle the Republican National Convention. But even with the sit-down strikes, chanting and a few cases of vandalism and assaults, the show went on inside the Xcel Energy Center.

As of early this morning, the total number of people arrested in RNC-related incidents this week was 818, according to a preliminary tally from the Ramsey County sheriff's office. That figure includes 716 arrests in Ramsey County and 102 arrests in Minneapolis.

On Thursday, 396 people were arrested, with 90 percent of them misdemeanors, according to the Ramsey County sheriff's department. However, some of those arrested Thursday had guns or other weapons, Harrington said.

On Thursday, the anti-war demonstrators, facing their last chance at a national audience before the elections in November, finished with a flourish.

The Left Hits bottom, keeps digging

Out in the snarkiest swamps of liberal talk radio is the Stephanie Miller show, which is very low on policy talk and very high on toilet humor and sex jokes. At the end of the show's first hour on Tuesday, Miller aired a clip of McCain's Friday unveiling of Sarah Palin:  "Here is Grampy McSame [McCain] introducing his trophy VP before he stepped back to check out her ass for twenty minutes."

As McCain spoke, the show's official impressionist, Jim Ward, began impersonating McCain: "My next trophy wife...The middle part of Alaska is ass...and she's got a terrific one, my friends." Miller lamely added: "She puts the ass in Al-ass-ka."

I Miss My Mommy Cause she's the vice-present. Will you love Trig?

And the uber fabi feminist OOOOOprah balks at having Palin on her show. Can you saw tinfoil hat? Out of touch with the real American woman?

The media has gone off the rails

RNC: THE MIGHTY MCCAIN MOMENT

009

CBS Poll: McCain, Obama Tied And this doesn’t include the speech of last night, let alone that which will be given in an hour…or even the anticipated post-convention “bump" (hat tip Robert)

(CBS) The presidential race between Barack Obama and John McCain is now even at 42 percent, according to a new CBS News poll conducted Monday-Wednesday of this week. Twelve percent are undecided according to the poll, and one percent said they wouldn't vote.

This is in contrast to a poll conducted last weekend, where the Obama-Biden ticket led McCain-Palin by eight points, 48 percent to 40 percent.

John Jay's said, "McCain will take the high road, he will honor sacrifice, duty and Americans who sacrifice. Our girl, our little girl Sarah, she will do the infighting.  mark my words, by the time this campaign is over, she will be known not only as vice president Palin, she will be known as "bulldog" palin, and John Mccain will be the father figure in command".

McCain will be the healer and the one who seeks to unite.

"Education is the civil rights issue of this century". A money quote

We need to shake up failed schools with competition. Crowd roars

Energy: "We are going to stop sending 700 billion dollars to countries that don't like us". THIS GETS THE BIGGEST ROAR OF THE EVENING.

"we cannot turn a blind eye to aggression, to international lawlessness." "many threats, i am not afraid of them, i am prepared for them.

"i know the good and evil." and, "how to stand up to those..." who would do evil. "i know how to secure the peace." "i hate war. it is terrible beyond comprehension." "i will draw on my experience, all the tools at our disposal. to build the foundation for a stable enduring peace."

but, he will fight if necessary.  "i know how the military works."

"i am an american, a proud citizen of the greatest country on earth."

"we never hide from history, we make history."

I will reach out my hand to anyone to help me get this country moving again. I have that record and the scars to prove it.

OBAMA DOES NOT". ouch.

"I've been an imperfect servant of my country for many years. But I have been her servant first, last and always. And I've never lived a day, in good times or bad, that I didn't thank God for the privilege."

I fell in love with my country as a prisoner.

"I wasn't my on man any more, i was my country's." so moving

And I will fight for her as I drawebreath so help me god. OVATION

I'm going to fight for my cause every day as your President. I'm going to fight to make sure every American has every reason to thank God, as I thank Him: that I'm an American, a proud citizen of the greatest country on earth, and with hard work, strong faith and a little courage, great things are always within our reach. Fight with me. Fight with me.

Fight for what's right for our country.

Fight for the ideals and character of a free people.

Fight for our children's future.

Fight for justice and opportunity for all.

Stand up to defend our country from its enemies.

Stand up for each other; for beautiful, blessed, bountiful America.

Stand up, stand up, stand up and fight. Nothing is inevitable here. We're Americans, and we never give up. We never quit. We never hide from history. We make history.

Thank you, and God Bless you

OMG, tears welled up in eyes. Hair standing up back of neck. Frozen

THIS IS AUTHENTIC....

They should have played Battle Hymn of the Republic. That country song cheapened it. Full text here.

CNN just said Americans have a CLEAR CHOICE in this election - they have no idea.

McCain was magnificent. It was slow at times and dragged a bit but the last ten minutes was historic. Chills up my spine. A Stellar event.

O'REILLY AND FOX NEWS CARRY OBAMA'S WATER

I think it disgusting that O'Reilly, who has been trying to get an interview with Obama for years, took the bait and agreed to interview Obama the night of McCain's speech. What a whore. Worse, they promised to go easy on him.

Why? Why serve Obama on McCain's big night.  Murdoch serving his Saudi masters. We have seen these softball tactics, like handling a mental patient, on all the left stream media outlets when they interview Obama so why FOX on McCain's moment in the sun?

Obama and Fox News: 'Tentative Truce?' Sheffield, Newsbusters

As Fox News prepares to interview Barack Obama tonight during prime time, TV journalist Michael Wolff details a meeting between Barack Obama, Fox News president Roger Ailes, and News Corporation president Rupert Murdoch in which the Fox execs promised to lay off the Democratic presidential candidate.

According to Wolff's telling, this was more than a mere tete-à-tete,  this was a full-on diplomatic meeting (initiated at Murdoch's request), conducted only after preparation and with preconditions from the Obama campaign.

The apparent purpose? To smooth things over in the event that Obama defeats John McCain:

Early in the summer that Obama relented and a secret courtesy meeting was arranged. The meeting began with Murdoch sitting down, knee to knee with Obama, at the Waldorf-Astoria. The younger man was deferential—and interested in his story [...]

Then, after he said his piece, Murdoch switched places and let his special guest, Roger Ailes, sit knee to knee with Obama.

Obama lit into Ailes. He said that he didn’t want to waste his time talking to Ailes if Fox was just going to continue to abuse him and his wife, that Fox had relentlessly portrayed him as suspicious, foreign, fearsome—just short of a terrorist.

Ailes, unruffled, said it might not have been this way if Obama had more willingly come on the air instead of so often giving Fox the back of his hand.

A tentative truce, which may or may not have vast historical significance, was at that moment agreed upon.

"A tentative truce?" A truce "which may or may not have vast historical significance?" What, exactly, does that mean? One hopes it doesn't mean that Fox News is going to start covering Obama the way their competitors, especially MSNBC, cover Obama.

37 MILLION WATCHED PALIN! OORAH!

The mother of five drew the same crowd. Thank you leftstream media! :)

If you missed it, watch Palin speech here.

RNC: Palin has Obama and His Media Tools running scared

Heroorzero

Hero or Zero? Who you going to vote for?( Thanks for the photoshop, Bruce) She knocked it out of the park. The upside of this media firestorm is I believe so many people watched her speech that wouldn't have without the media madness which is a great thing.

St. Paul is still so buzzed. What is so amazing is Palin's teleprompter was broken!

BREAKING: Sarah Palin "Winged" Her Speech Because of "Broken" Teleprompter Posted by: Erick Erickson

Obama is running scared. I received this from him (I'm on his email list) right after Palin's speech:

I wasn't planning on sending you something tonight. But if you saw what I saw from the Republican convention, you know that it demands a response.

I saw John McCain's attack squad of negative, cynical politicians. They lied about Barack Obama and Joe Biden, and they attacked you for being a part of this campaign.

But worst of all -- and this deserves to be noted -- they insulted the very idea that ordinary people have a role to play in our political process.

You know that despite what John McCain and his attack squad say, everyday people have the power to build something extraordinary when we come together. Make a donation of $5 or more right now to remind them.

"attack squad?" lol Tell it to Palin!

Both Rudy Giuliani and Sarah Palin specifically mocked Barack's experience as a community organizer on the South Side of Chicago more than two decades ago, where he worked with people who had lost jobs and been left behind when the local steel plants closed.

They deserve to be mocked. They are clowns.

[...]

It's now clear that John McCain's campaign has decided that desperate lies and personal attacks -- on Barack Obama and on you -- are the only way they can earn a third term for the Bush policies that McCain has supported more than 90 percent of the time.

I smell the odious stench of desperation and it ain't McCain. Dr. Chatwick opined on Obama's email, "First, it is whining!! Unadulterated. Second, it is wrong. Undoubtedly!  What he describes as "community organizing," is just plain old town meetings and trying to work out problems, done all over America, and, frankly, many, many other countries. Chainging names seems to be part of Barack's routine.  Shades of 1984."

The feminazis have bared their fangs. Steinem seethes and projectile vomits here:

Palin: wrong woman, wrong message Sarah Palin shares nothing but a chromosome with Hillary Clinton. She is Phyllis Schlafly, only younger.

The AP derides Palin's family .................morally ill.

The media is

Matthew Sheffield noted, "About a year into MSNBC's strategy of refashioning itself into the network for Bush haters, some consequences are starting to emerge for the cable channel and its corporate parent NBC.

Internally, the lurch to the left has resulted in numerous outbreaks of hostility as the remains of the old guard fight to protect themselves and the token conservatives find themselves increasingly marginalized."

The Natural

Sarah Palin connects with people in a way that few politicians can by Fred Barnes hat tip Van

St. Paul That was easy. Sarah Palin delivered what may have been the most important speech ever by a vice presidential candidate and made it look like she'd been performing on the national political stage for years. And she made John McCain look good for having picked her as his running mate. [...]

So how in the world could this 44-year-old woman with no national political experience handle the whole thing with poise and composure and seeming effortlessness? Simple. She's a natural, gifted with the ability to connect with people in a way that few politicians can and to perform under extreme pressure. She has star quality.

Political figures like this don't come along very often. And heaven knows Republicans haven't seen anyone like Palin emerge from their ranks since Ronald Reagan first attracted national attention in 1964. That's a long time to wait. They've been starved for a leader with charisma and a knack for leadership. Now they have one. CONTD...

Sebjoeko noted in the Atlas comment section:

I wish I knew how to 'screencap' some of the commentary that I've seen on Obama-loving sites, the latest on NPR's 'the TakeAway' AM radio program. On the 'newsworthy' topic of the unexpected pregnancy of Sarah Palin's 17 yr old daughter was this: 'how could she possibly subject her to this intense media scrutiny? I guess this proves that her family is just white trash.' Imagine that...an NPR-listener, a woman no less, using such an ugly, racist Palin_media_bias epithet? As reported many times here, this has been the 'angry Left's' response, until last night.

The Wall Street Journal has some great (rational and fair!) coverage today, along with a MUST-READ editorial by Dan Henninger: 'What's so Special about Sarah Palin' that blows all the smoke away from the BS of the past few days, and takes brutal aim at why Palin has been so vilified, and what the opposition can expect to see in the coming weeks. Fantastic. I hope folks can link to this

The vitriole is not working!  Go to  Us Magazine's website, there was a poll there that asked if Palin would make a good VP.. it was 64% YES.

You just gotta love it!

Go Megyn!  Click here: YouTube - Megyn Kelly vs. Us Weekly magazine

Steve (Hillary supporter) sent me this:

I have received many responses to Sarah's appearance last night, all extremely positive.  The following is from a 42-year old African-American (female) lawyer giving her reaction:

I am ECSTATIC!!  There were more zingers than I could count.  This woman is my new hero.  She is a serious GAME-CHANGER!!!  A female Harry Truman, wouldn't you say?

Wow.  I think Biden has got his work cut out for him.  -- M. (who backed Hillary Clinton in the Dem. Primaries)

The following is from Hillarycrat Melissa:

That was the most amazing, most tremendous speech I have been witness to.  I stood up in my living room several times and rah rah'd her.  Rudy kicked butt too!  I truly can see her as President.  Train under McCain Ms. Palin and then I promise to vote for you when you run.  Good Lord I have goosebumps!!!

My husband and father were amazed.  My father said she needed to run for President! HA!  Two southern, stereotypical men were exclaiming outloud at parts.  It was kind of funny.  My husband said "Good God, she is one of us!  One of us is going to the White House!"  I think he said it the best.  -- Michelle

Fasten your seatbelts, the left is going to pull out all the stops. Dirty, dirty pool. It is going to get ugly because these folks are the ugliest of uglys.

UPDATE: In the comment section, Lawrence writes, "Go to Us Magazine's website, there was a poll there that asked if Palin would make a good VP.. it was 64% YES". I just checked and it was at 71% YES. Will have to check back later today.

UPDATE: It's official, Peggy Noonan is an idiot. Palin is obviously a threat to Peggy Noonan, Hutchinson pales next to Palin. Noonan wrote a couple of good speeches. So what?

The bottom line is you know the real thing when you see it. Even to the poltical neophyte. And Palin is the real thing.

"Governor Palin represents a new generation. She's already one of the most successful governors in America - and the most popular. And she already has more executive experience than the entire Democratic ticket. She's led a city and a state. She's reduced taxes and government spending. This is unbelievable. INCREDIBLE. CROWD IS ON ITS FEET. It's a great moment.

HIGHLIGHTS  PALIN SPEECH:

On her experience as a public servant: "I had the privilege of living most of my life in a small town. I was just your average hockey mom, and signed up for the PTA because I wanted to make my kids' public education better. When I ran for city council, I didn't need focus groups and voter profiles because I knew those voters, and knew their families, too. Before I became governor of the great state of Alaska, I was mayor of my hometown. And since our opponents in this presidential election seem to look down on that experience, let me explain to them what the job involves. I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a 'community organizer,' except that you have actual responsibilities."
On why she is going to Washington, D.C.:
"I'm not a member of the permanent political establishment. And I've learned quickly, these past few days, that if you're not a member in good standing of the Washington elite, then some in the media consider a candidate unqualified for that reason alone. But here's a little news flash for all those reporters and commentators: I'm not going to Washington to seek their good opinion - I'm going to Washington to serve the people of this country."
On energy policies that the McCain-Palin administration will implement:
"Our opponents say, again and again, that drilling will not solve all of America's energy problems - as if we all didn't know that already. But the fact that drilling won't solve every problem is no excuse to do nothing at all. Starting in January, in a McCain-Palin administration, we're going to lay more pipelines...build more nuclear plants...create jobs with clean coal...and move forward on solar, wind, geothermal, and other alternative sources. We need American energy resources, brought to you by American ingenuity, and produced by American workers."
On John McCain:
"Here's how I look at the choice Americans face in this election. In politics, there are some candidates who use change to promote their careers. And then there are those, like John McCain, who use their careers to promote change."

YOUNG TURKS RADIO

I just finished an interview with the very left, Bush bashing, jihad enabling "Young Turks" radio and youtube show. I thought I videoed it but the camera wasn't on. argh! He ragged on the US for Hiroshima, Iraq and BUSH! He was shocked when I declared Hiroshima was necessary and effective. A dyed in the wool member of the leftist Islamic allinace

He went after Palin's pastor equating his sermons to the hate taught in Islamic countries - yeah Cenk was that bad was that bad. When I pointed out that Palin's pastor was not the problem but it
I am sure there will be a podcast and perhaps a video on youtube (apparently they are BIG on youtube, shocka!)

RNC: Media Lynch Mob

Palin

Obama's mother was just about the same age as Bristol Palin is when she had Obama.

Obama was doing cocaine when Palin's husband had a few drinks too many.

It's not that there's a double standard, it's that there is no standard.

Here at the XCEL energy center, the talk is all Palin all the time and the vicious attacks on Palin. It is disgusting. They are off the rails. The leftist party, allegedly the party of women rights is in full demolision mode devoid of any journalist standard or integrity. It's media tourette syndrome.

Where are the feminists?

It seems in one master stroke McCain swiped the mantle of "change" right out from under them. The only change Obama is selling is the  color of his skin. He is a sharp useless hack who came up through the corrupt political machine of Chicago politics.

In all my conversations with big wigs and small toupees the consensus here is very much the same. This woman is a wonder woman. Rich Galen said, she's made of steel, they'll never get to her. I asked him if he thought the Americans will buy the media propaganda against Palin. "No way".

I agree.

Palin has achieved more in her 44 years the whole of the Democrat party has done in the past 44 years. The Democratic Party is being driving solely by Daily Kos, MoveOn.org. If the RNC had half a brain, they'd throw KOS out of the convention center on their ass.
It's gross and it is my fervent hope that clear thinking Americans will be shell shocked by this attack on a truly great American.

As a mother of four children I am mortified by the attacks on Palin's ability to serve. How dare they? Every working American mother should vote with their feet.. Vile and demeaning. I do more in the course of one day than those media asshats accomplish in a lifetime.

DOING THE MATH: OBAMA V PALIN'S DAUGHTER (Heather Thompson did the math)
DOB: 10/18/1990 5 mos pregnant due in December, w hich means she'll be 18 when she has the baby, She will have been 18 for about 2 months

Sen. Barack Obama

DOB: August 4, 1961

His mother Stanley Ann Dunham DOB: 11/29/42 … Married: Feb. 2, 1961… Obama's mother was 3 mos pregnant when she got married [and whether she was really married or not, is a whole other issue.]and got pregnant a MONTH AFTER she turned 18

BOLTON ON PALIN'S FOREIGN POLICY CRED

From the expert, Bolton speaketh: (from WND hat tip Jon)

"I don't understand why the Obama campaign would want to make that an issue, which to me just calls attention to his own lack of experience in foreign policy," Bolton told WND at the Republican National Convention.

Shortly after Sen. John McCain announced Palin as his running mate Friday, the Obama campaign pounced on the issue, charging the presumptive Republican nominee had "put the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience a heartbeat away from the presidency."

The Nation's Robert Dreyfuss wrote yesterday "it's been hilarious this week watching Republican spokesmen trying to put a positive spin on Palin's utter lack of foreign policy experience."

What's hilarious and pathetic is how afraid the left is of this powerhouse of a woman.

"You know Alexander Hamilton wrote in the Federalist Papers that what is critical to the success of our system of government is what he called energy in the executive," Bolton said. "And she has been energetic on a range of issues, particularly on issues involving energy, energy security."

Energy security may be thought of as a domestic issue when American's fill up their gas tanks, Bolton said, but it also should be regarded as a national security issue.

"No ticket ever has every quality in both candidates that it wants," Bolton said. "And the main thing is who's going to be president on January the 20th, because I don't think we can afford having somebody who's not ready from day one."

Bolton also argued that if the Republican ticket wins, Palin will have an opportunity in the administration to increase her knowledge and involvement in foreign affairs.

"I think you put your strength at the number one position and groom your successor in the number two position," Bolton said. "You don't do it the other way around."

Read it all.

Infiltration Sheriff's investigation: Anarchists discussed kidnapping delegates Twin Citiies.com hat tip Van

According to the document, investigation learned:

The self-described anarchist group — whose main goal was to "crash" the Republican National Convention," according to its Web site — traveled to or communicated with affinity groups in 67 cities to recruit members and raise money.

Group members discussed the possibility of kidnapping delegates, blockading bridges, using liquid sprayers filled with urine or chemicals on police and throwing marbles to trip police and their horses.

At an "action camp" held from July 31 to Aug. 3 in Lake Geneva, Minn., one member talked of concealing inside giant puppets "materials" that could be used on the street. Others discussed the need for Molotov cocktails, paint, caltrops (devices used to puncture tires), bricks and lockboxes for protesters to lock themselves together.

Erik Oseland, one of the six group members arrested here, produced a video called "Video Map of the St. Paul Points of Interest." It included such major companies as Travelers Insurance and Qwest, hotels such as the Embassy Suites and the Crowne Plaza. Also included: the Pioneer Press building. [...]

BUSH, THOMPSON, LIEBERMAN LIVE AT RNC

Magnificent. All of it. It's no wonder the left never lets us speak ..............

UPDATE: Excerpts from Senator Lieberman’s remarks are below.

On why he supports John McCain to be our next president:

"And that brings me directly to why I am here tonight. What, after all, is a Democrat like me doing at a Republican convention like this? The answer is simple. I’m here to support John McCain because country matters more than party. I'm here tonight because John McCain is the best choice to bring our country together and lead our country forward. I’m here because John McCain’s whole life testifies to a great truth: being a Democrat or a Republican is important. But it is not more important than being an American."

On John McCain’s dedication to putting country before politics or self-interest:

"John understands that it shouldn’t take a natural disaster like Hurricane Gustav to get us to take off our partisan blinders and work together to get things done. It shouldn’t take a natural disaster to teach us that the American people don’t care much if you have an "R" or a "D" after your name. What they care about is: are we solving the problems they are up against every day?

"What you can expect from John McCain as President is precisely what he has done this week: which is to put country first. That is the code by which he has lived his entire life, and that is the code he will carry with him into the White House. I have personally seen John over and over again bring people together from both parties to tackle our toughest problems we face."

On John McCain’s commitment to victory in Iraq:

"Especially at a time of war, we need a president we can count on to fight for what’s right for our country - not only when it is easy, but when it is hard. When others were silent, John McCain had the judgment to sound the alarm about the mistakes we were making in Iraq. When others wanted to retreat in defeat from the field of battle, when Barack Obama was voting to cut off funding for our troops on the ground, John McCain had the courage to stand against the tide of public opinion and support the surge and because of that, today, our troops are at last beginning to come home, not in failure, but in honor!"

If they do, then not another dime from me, and I want the $800 I donated after she was announced back. Excerpts: Remarks by Former Senator Fred Thompson
Former Senator Focuses on Themes of "Country First" and "Service"

SAINT PAUL, Minn. - This evening former Senator Fred Thompson will address the 2008 Republican National Convention. Senator Thompson will expand on the convention's overall theme, "Country First," and the theme for today's program, which is "service," as he illustrates why John McCain is best qualified to be the next President of the United States

Excerpts are below:

On John McCain's qualifications to be president:
"This is the kind of character that civilizations from the beginning of history have sought in their leaders. Strength. Courage. Humility. Wisdom. Duty. Honor. It's pretty clear there are two questions we will never have to ask ourselves, 'Who is this man?' and 'Can we trust this man with the presidency?'"

On John McCain's dedication to doing what is right – not what is popular:
"He has been to Iraq eight times since 2003. He went seeking truth, not publicity. When he travels abroad, he prefers quietly speaking to the troops amidst the heat and hardship of their daily lives. And the same character that marked John McCain's military career has also marked his political career. This man, John McCain, is not intimidated by what the polls say or by what is politically safe or popular."

On John McCain's commitment to taking real action to reform Washington:
"But while others were talking reform, John McCain led the effort to make reform happen – always pressing, always moving for what he believed was right and necessary to restore the people's faith in their government. Confronting when necessary, reaching across the aisle when possible, John personified why we came to Washington in the first place."

On John McCain's ability to restore integrity to our government:
"My role is to help remind you of the man behind the vision. Because tonight our country is calling to all of us to step up, stand up, and put 'Country First' with John McCain. Tonight we are being called upon to do what is right for our country."

LIBERAL "DEMOCRACY NOW" HOST ARRESTED AT VIOLENT PROTEST

UPDATE: Here's the video. She should be behind bars. Democracy Now's Amy Goodman, Sharif Abdel Kouddous and Nicole Salazar were arrested by the Minneapolis Police Department. Charged with conspiracy to riot.

America, this is the Democrat party

Those of you familiar with demagogue Amy Goodman could hardly be surprised. Goodman is hard leftist given credible and respect to the voices of revolution and anarchy in our society. Atlas readers are familiar with Goodman, the useful idiot in previous posts  here and here.

Goodman's coverage and those of the major wires like AP and Reuters were hellbent on covering the police response to the violent chaotic protests. They didnt cover the smashing of windows, slashing of tires and destruction to property. Their only concern was hoping to capture police brutality. Goodman ought to be in jail, in th country she loves Iran or North Korea, or Venezuela.

Police arrest Democracy Now! host with crew.
by Sasha Aslanian, Weekend America September 2, 2008

St. Paul, Minn. — Democracy Now! host Amy Goodman and two of her staffers were among the more than 280 people arrested yesterday during the RNC protests.

Denis Moynihan of Free Speech TV says Goodman's videographers were filming riot police clashing with protestors at 9th and Jackson street when they were arrested.

Goodman was taken when she tried to intervene.

"We're working under deadline, under a lot of pressure and they were simply snatched off the street, roughly," Moynihan said.

All three were released Monday night. Two other members of the crew are still detained.

Associated Press photographer Matt Rourke was also arrested. He had been swept up as police moved in on a group of protesters.

Great comment at Atlas by Sebjoeko

Amy Goodman makes a good living as the 'primary journalist' of the radio program: 'Democracy Now', heard here in NYC on WBAI.

This program could generously be termed a 'news program' for the insane.

What you hear is not news, but propaganda, personal opinion, and an endless stream of factually wrong, vicious invective.

I check from time to time. For example, whenever there has been a particular bad loss American servicemen in fighting in Iraq, or especially recently in Afghanistan, I tune into our friend Amy, for the segment on 'news around the world': I've heard nothing.

When there has been some particularly good news re: the killing of Taliban insurgents during the latest fighting, and this has been reported on every major news outlet, I check with Amy's show: nothing.

When there has been good news, relating directly to 'democracy now', for ex, the ceding of increasingly greater self-determination, self-government (ie, Democracy!) to provinces in Iraq or towns in Afghanistan: Amy has not told us.

However, you will hear an endless series of programs on the seemingly universal torture that hapless, helpless, innocent Muslims all around the world are experiencing at the hands of brutal, thuggish American troops.

You will hear an endless parade of testimony of subjected people from all around the globe, who are only too happy (while somehow presently HERE in the US), to relate how poorly America is viewed 'where we are from'.

Tune in during the next week, and you will still hear expert, eyewitness testimony that the US government orchestrated the murder of its own civilians on 9/11.

What abject torture it must be for those killed in an Islamic declaration of war, to hear this bullshit year after year.

What a disgrace to their ongoing suffering, and that of servicemen who've given their lives so Goodman can continue to live in a Democracy, while spewing her garbage.

Rand had a good quote: 'don't lend the irrational your time, your attention, your life: they don't count'.

Goodman doesn't count, once her Pacifica gig is over, there's not much for her to do.

SAINT PAUL, Minn. - Today, senior Republican officials began the first day of relief efforts aimed at assisting the people of the Gulf States. As part of these efforts, the 2008 Republican National Convention has partnered with Target, FedEx and the Red Cross to assemble and send 80,000 "comfort packages" to affected residents. There will be a walk-through of the "comfort package" assembly center build-out, which is being established in the Minneapolis Convention Center, at 12:45 p.m. today.

RNC: Anti-War Leftist Declare war .... on America, VIOLENT PROTEST

UPDATE: One final thought. I have been covering these leftist rallys for years and there has been a palaple change, slow at first, increasingly clear. These malcontents have always been insane and bizarre but these protests have become more and more deranged and violent. That's the change -- they have taken it to a whole different level - they are violent and they enjoy the chaos and the violence.

Rncprotest61a

The media is not covering this anarchy. America needs to see the left for what they are. it could not be more critical with the election just weeks away.

Violent  march to GOP convention AP hat tip van

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Protesters smashed windows, punctured car tires and threw bottles Monday during an anti-war march to the site of the Republican National Convention. Police used pepper spray in confrontations with demonstrators and arrested five.

Police estimates of the crowd shifted during the event before settling on 8,000 to 10,000. The crowd was clearly in the thousands, many of them marching peacefully.

[...]

About 20 anarchists who had started the trash bin fire later tried to block the intersection of St. Peter and Exchange streets. Police quickly dispersed the group, then shot two tear gas canisters at the fleeing anarchists.

[...]

[...]Wearing black clothes, bandanas and gas masks, some of their members smashed windows of cars and stores. They tipped over newspaper boxes, pulled a big trash bin into the street, bent the rear view mirrors on a bus and flipped heavy stone garbage bins on the sidewalks.

One man who seemed to be the leader of the group carried a yellow flag with the motto "Don't Tread on Me." The group chanted: "Whose streets? Our streets!"

Meanwhile, a group of about 100 anarchists pushed a trash bin filled with trash and threw garbage in the streets and at cars. They also took down orange detour road signs. One of them used a screwdriver to puncture the back tire of a limousine waiting at an intersection and threw a wooden board at the vehicle, denting its side. Another hurled a glass bottle at a charter bus that had stopped at an intersection. The bottle smashed into pieces but didn't appear to damage the bus.

One 80-year-old member of the delegation had to be treated for injuries, and several other delegates had to rinse their eyes and clothing.

The Everyday Republican has a report on the monstrous  attacks on the elderly delegates.
One of the victims was an elderly woman who was spat on.

The Pioneer Press wrote about more attacks on Republican delegates:

Protesters harassed two state delegations in St. Paul to attend the Republican National Convention Monday. Someone threw a rock through the window as delegates from Alabama rode their bus to the Xcel Energy Center, where RNC events took place. And masked protesters confronted and harassed the Connecticut delegation — several of them were spat upon, roughed up and doused with a mixture of water and bleach.

Heath Fahle, director of the Connecticut Republicans, said the incident happened on Kellogg Boulevard about 2 p.m.

"It was frightening," said Fahle.

He said the delegation of more than 100 got off their chartered buses near the Xcel Energy Center. As they walked on the sidewalk, a group of masked protestors chanting anti-war slogans appeared in front of them.

They linked arms, attempting to create a human barricade. As police on horseback arrived, Fahle and other members of the group tried to push through.

Most of them escaped unscathed, but the protesters splattered the last group of delegates with the liquid.

"Two got doused, and several more got sprayed with it," said Fahle. Former U.S. Congressman Rob Simmons was hit on the face with the liquid.

Washington State's delegation was also attacked today when Leftists threw cement bags and sandbags from the overpass onto the busses traveling down the interstate.

I do not understand the RNC

I am here at Xcel Center and there is no bloggers row. No place for Atlas to sit her Atlas. Rnc_035 Un-frickin-believable. I have asked everyone and they are like "you are the
third person to ask me that" (!) I wrote to the media liason and he wrote back "they are spread about" WTF does that mean?  So I found a small wooden chair - pulled it to an outlet and started blogging but this is nuts!

The enemy, the leftstream media has lush accommodations. AP, Reuters the usual suspects are being fed like kings, all the monitors are on CNN, laughing joking - I heard one say snarkily (about the Palin pregnancy" "oh, it's alright because she is getting married". laughing ugh.

Do they have a frickin clue how much heavy lifting we do for these bots? The fleabag motel was one thing, but this is "unacceptable" (do I sound like Bush now?)

Rnc_036_2 UPDATE: They just took my chair away ............. the makeshift restaurant, "I need that chair back at the table!" .....but I bought a coffee. *sigh*

keyster on the floor.

Richie from Hiphop Republican to the rescue. That man always comes to my rescue. We covered the Black Republican forum together,  He is covering this for The Washington Post - how cool is that?  The Washington Post launched a new online magazine back in January aimed at a black audience, featuring commentary from leading black writers, along with information on genealogy.Called    "The Root," the website is the brain child of Post Chairman Donald Graham and Harvard University professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. So you can check his stuff out there. Damn!

Rich and I entered the arena

In a word ....wow. I have a chair here. Which is a good thing.

UPDATE: Another good thing. Cheney speaks tomorrow night and Laura Bush will be speaking tonight about Gustav. Governors from the Gulf states will be speaking as well.

The Media's Low blow

The leftwing media is dying to make the Republicans look bad. Believe me when I tell you so much of everything has been canceled.  Check this out from ABC News

Money Trail: What Hurricane? Lobbyists, GOP Party On As NOLA Residents Flee, Republican Party Officials Don Pink Boas and Swig Vodka Shots

These folks are disgusting. Underzog left this is the Atlas comment section and he's right:

.....anyone imagine the reaction of the viewing audience seeing a very RNC celebratory convention split screened with a video of a fellow floating in the water there? It would be very bad from a media point of view and people don't react logically. I would hope that the RNC convention would have real intellectual speakers such as Tom Sowell, ph.d and Jonah Goldberg to still have the convention, but give it a more intellectual as opposed to a party appearance. I don't want my "true love" Ann Coulter speaking there; however. With the hurricane and the way the drive by media would exploit it, this is not the time for RED MEAT.

I see the media coverage seems to be praying for a levee to break sort of lamenting "that it could be much worse". The news is the storm has been reclassified down to a cat 2.

Atlas at the RNC

Of course they are canceling everything - the Katrina paranoia. G-d forbid, anyone enjoy their life. My take is if they get everyone out of the threatened areas we are all good. McCain canceling everything shows me he is not ready to stand up to the media. McCain says GOP to suspend "most" convention activities on Monday. Gustav weakens from Cat5 to CAT3 and the Republicans have cancelled the first night of the convention. NUTS!

Rnc_001

The RNC put me in a hotel that was a$50 cab ride away from the Xcel ENERGY Center (actually it's a $50 cab ride from civilzation). Ali, my cab driver, said you have to move your hotel. He was so cool. He kept waiting for me where ever I went:) So he drops me at the fleabag motel and says go find another hotel. Go, go get one I'll wait here  - no charge! So I ran it, google the area  and made a number of calls and got a fabulous room in the heart of St. Paul - their cheapest room but oh so chic! Inshallah! The above photo is the media set -up across the street from my hotel.

Got settled in and made my way back to Minneapolis and attend  the delegates party (below).

Check out the air force one fusilage (I could swear this was lifted from Salman Pac at Baghdad airport where Saddam trained terrorists).

This from the NY post: (hat tip kobi)

Sources told The Post that McCain himself might visit the Gulf Coast during the week of the Republican National Convention, which begins Monday. McCain is not scheduled to speak until Thursday. The contingency plan - a worst-case scenario if the storm devastates Gulf Coast areas - would turn Republicans into Red Cross-type volunteers who would help collect donations, food and goods for storm victims. McCain's campaign motto is "Country First," and he said helping people during an emergency will take precedence over accepting the nomination. "It wouldn't be appropriate to have a festive occasion while a near-tragedy or a terrible challenge is presented in the form of a natural disaster," McCain told Fox News today.

Someone ought to tell McCain he isn't President yet.

THE LEFT HAS ARRIVED AT THE RNC: "Buckets of urine, slingshots, anti-bus weapons seized in raid" on leftwing protesters.

These terrorists obviously took a page from Obama pal William Ayers. This is his MO.

Rnc_democrats4 n overview of Items confiscated in the Ramsey County Sheriff's Department's raid of houses belonging to members of the RNC Welcoming Committee, according to authorities.

Outta control. Please watch the photo slideshow. Must see.Below photo (Sledge hammers, bolt cutters and Smoke in the Can were among items confiscated and displayed at Saturday's press conference.

Buckets of urine, slingshots, anti-bus weapons seized in raid on anti-RNC protesters - By Mara H. Gottfried, Elizabeth Mohr and Dave Orrick (hat tip Jane)

Ramsey County sheriff's deputies found weapons and devices to disable buses - among other items - in searches in the Twin Cities last night and today.

Authorities said the items came from "key members of the RNC Welcoming Committee," Rnc_democrats_2 a self-described anarchist group.

Five people have been arrested and four properties have been searched, according to the sheriff's office.

At 8 a.m. today, the sheriff's office executed search warrants at three Minneapolis homes - 2301 23rd Ave. S., 3500 Harriet Ave. and 3240 17th Ave. S. The FBI, Minneapolis police and the Hennepin County sheriff's office assisted them.

"The 'Welcoming Committee' is a criminal enterprise made up of 35 anarchists who are intent on committing criminal act.

before and during the Republican National Convention," said Sheriff Bob Fletcher in a statement. "These acts include tactics to blockade and disable delegate buses, breaching venue security and injuring police officers. They have recruited assistance in their criminal conspiracy from other anarchists groups throughout the country. Through their plans and actions they have exhibited a blatant disregard for the law and the safety of others."

The statement said the items found in the searches included:

Rnc_democrats

  • Materials to create "sleeping dragons" (PVC pipe, chicken wire, duct tape), which is when protesters lock themselves together
  • Large amounts of urine, including three to five gallon buckets of urine
  • Wrist rockets (high-poweredslingshots)
  • A machete, hatchet and several throwing knives
  • a gas mask and filter Rnc_democrats3
  • Empty glass bottles
  • Rags
  • Flammable liquids
  • Homemade caltrops (devises used to disable buses in roads)
  • Metal pipes
  • Axes
  • Bolt cutters
  • Sledge hammers
  • Rapelling equipment
  • Kryptonite locks
  • Empty plastic buckets cut and made into shields
  • Material for protective padding
  • An Army helmet.

The five people being held at the Hennepin County jail are under arrest on suspicion of conspiracy to riot, conspiracy to commit civil disorder and conspiracy to damage property.

  • Above photo: According to Sheriff Fletcher, the RNC Welcoming Committee planned to use spikes in hopes of deflating the tires of the delegates' buses.

GUSTAV:LEFTWING MEDIA RESURRECTS KATRINA TO BASH BUSH

Stuck at the airport ,,,,,,,,,held prisoner by CNN on all the monitors and I am struck (no, really) by the leftwing media's sheer joy at the opportunity to trot out the fallacious "Bush killed people KATRINA!" meme. It's bad enough we are all holding our breath waiting for this cat 5 hurricane to hit the gulf coast. I won't even go into the orgasmic glee the Democrats are experiencing at the timing of Gustav during the RNC (Bush has cancelled his appearance as have many form the Gulf states).

The lying leftists, yet again, place the blame of the worst storm in US history squarely at their god, Bush. Bush is most certainly their g-d for he is responsible for all the evil in the world, all the bad things that have ever happened to good people, for all the failures of Democrat administrations.

The fact is ................ the loss of life and destruction of Katrina was most glaring proof of the failed welfare state  aka the Democrat statism model. It was a Democrat mayor, a Democrat governor, a Democrat political machine in Louisiana that is responsible for the lack of actions, response and coordination of pre and post Katrina efforts.

Look at every incident in American history. First responders and local government are responsible. Who can forget Mayor Giuliani on and after 9/11.

Nagin failed that city Nagin did not evacuate that city. Nagin left those buses empty. Nagin didn't evacuate nursing homes and hospitals. Now of course, he is evacuating but I suspect the effort has been removed from his jurisdiction. Bush gave him too much credit, too much say pre and post Katrina, I am sure FEMA is the point man now. This will not be left to a corrupt and silly man again and I am sure it will be handled as deftly as possible under these trying circumstances.

The Democrats and the leftwing media enjoy this and will use Katrina to club the American psyche over the head yet again despite the fact that it was an unequivocal leftist failure.

I have little sympathy for a New Orleans that re-elected a completely incompetent Nagin. NONE.How could they possibly considerNagin_chocolatecity_reeses electing this completely useless, affable, failure of a mayor to another term? .  They are certifiably nuts.

The naked truth that Katrina reveals is the failure of the welfare state, the pathetic ineptitude of corrupt elected officials, and the decay of political patronage on democratically elected state and local governments.

The juxta of how the  Republicans handled disasters in Texas (and Florida) spoke volumes to management, administration and controlled chaos.

The best evidence is the stark contract of two states experiencing like disasters. The efficiency of Texas and the incapacitation of Louisiana during Rita and Katrina respectively is empirical evidence of the well run versus the well worn. That Louisianians elect and support this kind of government than clearly they have no one to fault but themselves.

    Blame Bush, indeed.

Ayn Rand at 100: "Yours is the Glory"

    • Aynrandstamp_1

    • Speaking to the unnamed, unchampioned, beating heart of her new land, Ayn was to say: 'Yours is the glory.'"
A man whose ability and independence leads others to reject him, but who perseveres nevertheless to achieve his values. Man as an individual, as a creator. What's the most depraved type of human being? Not a sadist or a murderer or a sex maniac or a dictator; "The man without a purpose." Yet most people seem to go through their lives without a clearly defined purpose.

    • Life has Loveliness to sell,
      All beautiful and splendid things,
Blue waves whitened on a cliff,
Soaring fires that sways and swing,
      And children's faces looking up,
      Holding wonder like a cup

      Life has Loveliness to sell,
Music like a curve of Gold,
Scent of pinetrees in the rain,
Eyes that love you, arms that hold,
And for your spirit's still delight,
Holy stars that star the night.

Spend all you have for loveliness,
      Buy it and never count the cost;
For one white singing hour of Peace
Count many a year of strife well lost
And for a breath of ecstasy
Give all you have been, or could be.
