While I'm disappointed that Judge Battani didn't give Abdallah the full 12-month sentence recommended under the federal sentencing guidelines (and which he solidly deserved), I'm pretty happy with this and was glad she told this proud Hezbollah Muslim off for trying to silence me and for sending me two violent rape and death threats. I was glad to hear Judge Battani repeatedly tell him how especially disturbed she was with his crime.

In the wake of Britain's capitulation to Sharia, this is just the kind of law we need. I am very glad to see Congressman Tancredo doing this, and hope that it will at very least ignite a national debate about this issue.

WASHINGTON, DC – Amid disturbing revelations that the verdicts of Islamic Sharia courts are now legally binding in civil cases in the United Kingdom, U.S. Representative Tom Tancredo (R-Littleton) moved quickly today to introduce legislation designed to protect the United States from a similar fate.

According to recent news reports, a new network of Sharia courts in a half-dozen major cities in the U.K. have been empowered under British law to adjudicate a wide variety of legal cases ranging from divorces and financial disputes to those involving domestic violence.

“This is a case where truth is truly stranger than fiction,” said Tancredo. “Today the British people are learning a hard lesson about the consequences of massive, unrestricted immigration.”

Sharia law, favored by Muslim extremists around the world, often calls for brutal punishment – such as the stoning of women who are accused of adultery or have children out of wedlock, cutting off the hands of petty thieves and lashings for the casual consumption of alcohol. Under Sharia law, a woman is often required to provide numerous witnesses to prove rape allegations against an assailant – a near impossible task.

“When you have an immigration policy that allows for the importation of millions of radical Muslims, you are also importing their radical ideology – an ideology that is fundamentally hostile to the foundations of western democracy – such as gender equality, pluralism, and individual liberty,” said Tancredo. “The best way to safeguard America against the importation of the destructive effects of this poisonous ideology is to prevent its purveyors from coming here in the first place.”

Tancredo’s bill, dubbed the “Jihad Prevention Act,” would bar the entry of foreign nationals who advocate Sharia law. In addition, the legislation would make the advocacy of Sharia law by radical Muslims already in the United States a deportable offense.

Tancredo pointed to the results of a recent poll conducted by the Centre for Social Cohesion as evidence that the U.S. should act to prevent the situation in Great Britain from replicating itself here in the United States. The poll found that some 40 percent of Muslim students in the United Kingdom support the introduction of Sharia law there, and 33 percent support the imposition of an Islamic Sharia-based government worldwide.

“We need to send a clear message that the only law we recognize here in America is the U.S. Constitution and the laws passed by our democratically elected representatives,” concluded Tancredo. “If you aren’t comfortable with that concept, you aren’t welcome in the United States.”

Britain's Sunday Express reported Sunday that an Islamic leader warned that the 66-year-old McCartney could be the target of a suicide bombing if he goes ahead with his first performance in the Jewish state.

McCartney plans to arrive in Israel as part of a world tour. He is scheduled to give a single concert at Tel Aviv's Yarkon Park on September 25.

Threatened by Pro-Al Qaeda Preacher

Omar Bakri, a pro-Al Qaeda Muslim preacher who lived in London for 20 years before moving to Lebanon, said McCartney's decision to perform as part of Israel's 60th anniversary celebrations has turned him into the enemy of Muslims worldwide.

"If he values his life, Mr. McCartney must not come to Israel," Bakri was quoted as saying. "He will not be safe there. The sacrifice operatives will be waiting for him."

Bakri added: "Instead of supporting the people of Palestine in their suffering, McCartney is celebrating the atrocities of the occupiers," Bakri was quoted as saying. "The one who is under occupation is supposed to be getting the help."

In December 2004, Bakri warned that Muslims would give the West "a 9/11, day after day after day," if Western governments did not change their policies. Known to be closely linked to al-Qaeda, released prepared statements from Osama Binladen after the 1998 United States embassy bombings.

After a year-long investigation, the Alberta Human Rights and Citizenship Commission has rejected a complaint by the Edmonton Council of Muslim Canadians against former Western Standard publisher Ezra Levant over his republication of the Danish Muhammad cartoons.

The allegation that the February 14, 2006, issue of the now defunct magazine was likely to expose Muslims to hatred helped to spark a national debate about human rights law and free speech, and its rejection comes after similar complaints of Islamophobia against Maclean's magazine also failed.

Expose who to whose hatred. Acts of religious violence are the hallmarks of the Religion of pieces.

In a report on his investigation, which recommended the complaint not be referred for a panel hearing, AHRCC Southern Director Pardeep S. Gundara wrote that the cartoons are "stereotypical, negative and offensive," and they "do reinforce stereotypes," but they were "related to relevant and timely news" and were "not simply gratuitously included."

The death of Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, coming as it does amid a great new struggle between the free and unfree worlds, brings to mind a story the editor of the Sun likes to tell his colleagues. It was during the years of Solzhenitsyn's exile in America, when he turned his Vermont estate into a latter-day version of Tolstoy's famous retreat, Yasnaya Polyana. The editor, who was then working at the Wall Street Journal, was about to make, with a number of the Journal's other editors, a trip to the Soviet Union. So he sent Solzhenitsyn an invitation to join the editors for dinner. The writer, who lived a reclusive life, sent a short but gracious note to say that he was unable to get to New York but that his advice to the editors was: "Remember, there is such a thing as good and evil."

It was his steadfast belief in good and evil, and his conviction that he was destined to play a part in the struggle between them, that made Solzhenitsyn's one of the emblematic lives of the 20th century. With his passing, we have lost one of our last links to the era of Soviet tyranny and the struggle to defeat it. Solzhenitsyn did not play the same kind of political role in that struggle as some of the other giants of the 20th century with whom his name should be remembered — Pope John Paul II, Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher. But as a writer and witness, his contribution was no less crucial.

For the first step in resisting evil is to identify it as such, and once Solzhenitsyn had written, no one could any longer doubt that the evil of Stalinism was comparable to the evil of Nazism. What Primo Levi did for the Nazi death camps in "Survival at Auschwitz," Solzhenitsyn did for the Soviet prison camps in "One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich," his first novel, and the one that made him famous around the world. That book, published in 1962 during Khruschev's brief thaw, chronicled what life was like in the Gulag: the torture, the starvation, the freezing, the killing labor, the unjust punishments, the desperate struggle to live another day.

What link can we find to a figure like Solzhenitsyn today? The left compares America's holding of enemy detainees at Guantanamo and elsewhere to the Gulag. But as it happens, if it is happenstance, one of our candidates for president, Senator McCain, had himself been a prisoner of Communism, and will no doubt not fall for such a comparison. He was among those inspired by Solzhenitsyn's work. He wrote about it, with Mark Salter, in a book called "Hard Call: The Art of Great Decisions," which we excerpt nearby. Mr. McCain reminds that the Russian wrote not only "diligently, comprehensively, profoundly" but also in secret and that his decision to publish carried enormous risks.

This way, he might avoid the despair of having his work confiscated and destroyed or the frustration of having his work rejected by publishers as inadequate or politically unacceptable. Worse, making public his work, his memories, might cost him the measure of happiness he then enjoyed. It might send him back to the Gulag. For whatever reason, he kept his work to himself and to his wife, Natalya. "During all the years until 1961," he wrote, "not only was I convinced that I should never see a single line of mine in print in my lifetime but also I scarcely dared allow any of my close acquaintances to read anything I had written, because I feared that this would become known."

His magisterial and uncompromisingly truthful writings jolted me into examining more rigorously my, and our culture’s, moral values and politics. He galvanized us into confronting, justly fearing, and committing to a lifetime of fighting – to the best of our ability – what he called “the absolute Evil” of totalitarianism in the world. Moreover, this moral titan put us on guard against “the timid” and “pacifist” in our ranks, in particular, the faint-hearted “American Intelligentsia,” which would abandon us to the barbarians, past and present, who ever threaten our gates.

Belgian Right-Wing Politician Calls Zionism as Bad as Islamism

Yesterday, the Belgian establishment newspaper De Standaard published a double interview with the Dutch politician Geert Wilders and the Flemish politician Jean-Marie Dedecker. Mr Dedecker, a popular former judo coach, is a populist right-wing politician who was ousted by the governing Flemish Liberal Party in 2006 and founded his own party, the Lijst Dedecker (LDD) or Gezond Verstand Partij (Common Sense Party). He won 5.5% of the Flemish vote in the June 10, 2007, elections. It is generally assumed that he did so mainly at the expense of the Flemish-secessionist and anti-Islamist Vlaams Belang (VB, Flemish Interest) party. According to the latest polls Dedecker is currently at 12.4%, again mostly at the expense of the VB. Last November, Dedecker called the VB “fascistic” and boasted that he is single-handedly succeeding in what the Belgian establishment failed to do for 20 years: “smoking out the VB.”

Geert Wilders, who was ousted by the governing Dutch Liberal Party in 2004 and also founded his own party, the Partij voor de Vrijheid (PVV, Freedom Party) won 5.9% of the Dutch vote in the November 22, 2006, elections with an anti-Islamist platform. Polls predict that his party will double in size if elections are held today. Wilders’ spectacular growth has, however, been stopped by Rita Verdonk, another former member of the Dutch Liberal Party (and a former Dutch Immigration minister), who was ousted in 2007 and also founded her own party, Trots op Nederland (TON, Proud to be Dutch). Verdonk is opposed to immigration but does not criticize Islam. In the polls she is doing better than Wilders.

Excerpts from the interview:

De Standaard: There are also large differences between the two of you. Mr Dedecker is opposed to prohibiting things, whereas you [Geert Wilders] want to prohibit all kinds of things, starting with the Koran. […]

Wilders: That I want to prohibit all sort of things is complete nonsense. I only want to prohibit things to defend our rule of law. I am still enough of a liberal to prohibit things only in the most extreme cases. I do not like to prohibit books at all. You will never hear me advocate prohibiting other books.

De Standaard: Do you also feel that our rule of law is threatened in this way, Mr Dedecker?

Dedecker: I feel threatened by the fact that the separation between church and state is diminishing. But I have no existential angst. There are two major phobias at present in our society: Islamophobia and climatophobia. Both are being promoted.

(To Wilders) You think that Eurabia is a danger. I disagree. Our enlightenment values are strong enough to withstand this. However, we have to wake up. What the politically correct Left has done to our society explains our [electoral] success.

Wilders: If you say that we must wake up, this means that the leftist political elite is sleeping at this moment. That is exactly the reason why our enlightenment ideas do not prevail. Because those leftist politicians, who have become ever more dependent on [the votes of] immigrant groups, will sleep on.

Dedecker: I think prohibiting the Koran is a form of overacting. We shouldn’t prohibit any books: neither Mein Kampf nor the Koran. The Bible, the Thora and the Koran are but fairy tale books. That is what you have to dare tell the people. If religion manifests itself as collective madness, then we must dare to oppose it and start the debate.

Wilders: The Koran is a diabolic book rather than a fairy tale book. It is also, unlike the other books which you refer to – and which I would not call fairy tale books, but it is your right to do so – a book from which people draw inspiration today to commit terrorist acts and exclude women and homosexuals from my community and execrate the separation of church and state. Fairy tale books do not do such things. Fairy tale books concern the Efteling or Walibi [Dutch and Belgian theme parks; equivalents of Disneyland]

Dedecker: I am opposed to the wearing of headscarfs by civil servants, I am opposed to separate swimming hours [for men and women] in swimming pools, but is this a reason to prohibit the Koran? On the contrary, I am one hundred percent behind our own values. And I am as much criticised for this as you. […]

[To Wilders] Up to a certain extent you are also a Zionist. I find that very strange of you.

Wilders: A Zionist? What next?

Dedecker: The way you always defend Israel – as a matter of fact this happens much more in the Netherlands than in Belgium. We both have visited Israel and the Palestinian territories. I consider Zionism and Islamism as similar phenomena. You constantly defend Israel although you know what is being inflicted there on the Palestinians. Do you do that perhaps because Zionism is the counterpart of Islamism?

Wilders: It is interesting that you say this. Zionist goes perhaps a bit far, but I am, indeed, a convinced defender of Israel. Because Israel is an oasis of democracy and Western values in the Middle East. I have also been in other countries in the region, from Syria via Iran to Afghanistan: all these countries are dictatorships. Israel is the only country where a majority in parliament can dismiss a minister – as members of parliament you and I should be able to appreciate that.

I am biased in favour of Israel. Is that so bad? No, I am even proud of it. You have to make up your own mind, but you, too, should be proud of every democracy in the world.

Dedecker: You are partly right. But that does not justify Israel’s apartheid policies – and that is exactly what I reject. I call Israel a kippah democracy.

Wilders: I have a different opinion. Palestinians who are living in Gaza and on the West Bank at this moment, could very well move to the other side of the Jordan – to Jordan or other areas. There is space and place enough there and many Palestinians already live there.

De Standaard: So you also favour ethnic cleansing?

Wilders: That is not ethnic cleansing. Israel can justly claim those regions. Moreover we do not have to harm anyone, but I see what happens today: Hamastan, governs Gaza.

Dedecker: Why should the Palestinians have to go to Jordan? The Palestinians are the outcasts of the Middle East: they are not welcome anywhere. These are people who were driven from their territory on the basis of an international treaty and pseudo property rights granted by the Thora or the Bible. Property rights on the basis of fairy tale books.

Wilders: For me the security of Israel as a democracy prevails on the rights of a group who is to a large extent guilty of terror and corruption. There is no democratic Palestinian authority – that is the sad truth. I am convinced that the attacks which Israel suffers from radical Islam are attacks aimed at us.

Dedecker: Isn't it the opposite? Research shows that three fourth of the suicide terrorists are motivated by the fate of the Palestinians. If we solve that situation, would it not lead to a safer world for all of us? Meanwhile we spend billions and billions on our security.

Protesting the Antiwar Protestors by Kevin Ferris

Memorial Day isn't until Monday. But for Rich Davis, a 20-year veteran of the Navy, it seems to come every Saturday. That's when he pulls out a handmade sign and heads for a street corner near the Chester County Court House in this suburban Philadelphia community.

Mr. Davis, 54, is a pro-military protester who makes a public stand each week in support of the troops and their mission.

In 2001, Mr. Davis retired from the Navy and ended up settling in West Chester, where he spent 2006 and 2007 watching antiwar protesters rally each Saturday from 11 a.m. until noon outside the courthouse near his apartment. The Chester County Peace Movement, Mr. Davis would later learn, had been demonstrating at the site since March 2003, when the U.S. invaded Iraq. At first he hoped someone would challenge the protesters, speak up for the troops, and defend their mission. On Sept. 8, 2007 he decided that someone had to be him.

Mr. Davis had been building to such a decision for a long time. He was just a kid during the Vietnam War, but he is still bothered by the disrespect heaped on returning Vietnam vets in the 1960s and '70s. In part that is because, in 1967, Mr. Davis attended the funeral of a man he idolized – his sister's boyfriend, Marine Lance Cpl. Alan R. Schultz from Levittown, Pa. Schultz was killed by mortar fire in Vietnam.

"Al was a great guy," Mr. Davis remembers. "When we got the word that he had been killed, I felt the bottom fall out. I cried the rest of that summer."

Even today, Mr. Davis can't look at an antiwar protest without thinking that Schultz, his comrades and their modern-day counterparts are being disrespected. So after seeing the war protesters each week, Mr. Davis said to himself, "Not this war. Not this time."

"We're not silent anymore," Mr. Davis told me. "We refuse to let antiwar protesters have the stage to themselves."

Not that he wants to stifle dissent. He just doesn't want to go unanswered the signs and protests that he believes encourage the enemy and demoralize U.S. troops. So, sign in hand in September, he walked to the corner praying he would have the strength to stand there, to be seen and heard.

Seen he was. Though there was plenty of room on the corner, he says he was bumped, shoved and challenged. One person asked, "Do you live in fear?" Another demanded, "Why don't you go and serve?"

"They had that corner for five years, every Saturday, unopposed," Mr. Davis told me. "They couldn't stand the thought of one person having a sign they couldn't tolerate."

More people than the antiwar protesters took notice. A few weeks after he started his own weekly protests, Mr. Davis had about 40 sign-holding, flag-waving supporters at his side, thanks to support from the Gathering of Eagles, a national organization supporting the troops.

The number of antiwar protesters began to swell in response, which led to an increase in taunts hurled between the two groups. Mr. Davis admits the childish behavior cut both ways. "At times we have been confrontational and done things that were inappropriate, especially in the early days." But now, he says, "I have zero tolerance for yelling and buffoonery."

In March, an angry antiwar protester hit a woman who covers the weekly demonstrations on her pro-troop blog. That led the local police to lay down a few ground rules. Now each group is to keep to its own side of the street, and the two groups swap sides of the street each week.

There are a few other changes. Mr. Davis's once informal group is getting organized. They have a name, Chester County Victory Movement, and a Web site (www.americansheepdogs.com) that they use to share information about welcoming troops home, sending care packages, and joining discussions at West Chester University.

Mr. Davis also sends weekly emails to thank people for their support, and to pass on encouragement. A few members of Mr. Davis's group meet regularly to discuss problems. At these meetings, some people raise ideas aimed at embarrassing those on the antiwar side of the street. But Mr. Davis constantly refers back to the reason that brought him to the corner in the first place: letting the public and the troops know that there is a reservoir of support for the sailors, soldiers, airmen and Marines who risk their lives to fight the war on terror.

"Every time we go out, I remind the guys that we represent more than ourselves," he told me. "The troops and their families look at us. So I hope we present ourselves with the same type of dignity, courage and honor that our own sons and daughters are showing in Iraq and Afghanistan."

What Mr. Davis wants those troops to see is the solid wall of red, white and blue of his group's flags and "Support Our Troops" signs. He averages about 30 supporters a week, but hopes for a larger turnout for Flag Day, June 14.

Mr. Davis notes that he has been accused of being part of a vast right-wing conspiracy that trains and pays pro-troop advocates. Asked about that, he offers an answer that may inspire others to join his efforts.

"In a way they're right," he told me. "I was trained by a family that taught me to love our country, not blame it. And I am paid by troops and their families who say thanks for doing this, thanks for being here."

Israel has never had a better friend in the White House than the 43rd President of the United States. (Applause.) Today also happens to be the birthday of the 33rd President, Harry Truman, who was living in the White House 60 years ago. As the historical record makes clear -- (applause) -- President Truman encountered a good deal of resistance inside his own administration when he showed an inclination to recognize the new Jewish state. Up until even the hours before independence was announced, no one was really sure what kind of official response America would make. But Harry Truman was not the sort to wring his hands and to leave an important matter unresolved. The desert has bloomed, and Israel has become a nation of world-class enterprises, great universities and medical centers, technological advancement, scholarly brilliance, and cultural beauty. Holocaust survivors and refugees have been welcomed from Europe, the Arab lands, Ethiopia, the former Soviet Union -- and they have found hope and opportunity in the land of Jacob.

In these years, Israel has also given the world many towering examples of strength and statesmanship, among them David Ben Gurion, Abba Eban, Golda Meir, Menachem Begin, Yitzhak Rabin, and a man who defended Israel with every ounce of his strength -- Ariel Sharon. He is in our thoughts this evening. (Applause.)

On this anniversary we think even farther back, to a man of vision and determination named Theodor Herzl. Herzl did not live to see the birth of Israel. Yet he died in the confident belief that good men and women would live on to fulfill his aspiration for the Jewish people, and be inspired by his own words of wisdom: "If you will it, it is no dream."

Herzl, Ben-Gurion, and other early visionaries would marvel at all that Israel has become in these last 60 years. In this modern, vigorous, prospering society they would see much that is new. Yet so much more would still be familiar -- the holy places, the splendor of the land, the reverence of its people and the firmness of character, and, always, the tireless search for peace and the blessings of a normal life.

In tribute to all that's been achieved in these 60 years, one week from today the President of the United States will be in Jerusalem, speaking to the Knesset and proudly joining the celebration. (Applause.) And a celebration is well in order -- because the founding of Israel, the survival of Israel, the success of Israel are among the greatest achievements the world has known. (Applause.) Violent "Peace" Protester Hits Girl Blogger

Atlas readers are very familiar with long time reader Rich who was so inspired by what one individual can do he started his own counter anti-war group in Philly to stand up against a weekly motley crew of seditionists, traitors,  and and your regular weak,  run of the mill group of hippie leftists. I ran previous reports of his work here and here.

Well the anti-war cowards don't like to be challenged or questions or called out on their lies especially by proud patriots. So they cry and whine and stomp and wail and summon the police  but to no avail. Rich and his wonderful patriots grow and grow ....so the anti-war leftards resort to ..... violence. Now that's rich, Rich.

Peace Protester hits female blogger - the video.

7 months ago, a retired Navy veteran named Rich Davis began a counter-protest against a group of peace protestors near Phila, PA.  The leftists had been protesting against Bush and the troop's mission every Saturday in West Chester, PA for the last 5 years.

Last Saturday, one of the peace protestors, a man who carries a "veteran for peace" sign,became unhinged and struck a conservative female blogger who had been covering the counter protests since they began. There were about 50 peace protestors and 25 pro-troop protestors present.  The police arrived and when they attempted to question "the slugger" - he resisted and shoved the policeman - resulting in his arrest.  A fellow peace protestor was arrested for interferring with the police while they were handcuffing the "the slugger".

My friend Alan posits:

One good question to put in Meicht and Grant's faces is this - they scream they're not traitors, well, here's a way to put them to the test. Ask them if they know anything about ANSWER? who runs it, who is behind it, where they get their funding from. The answer to ANSWER is that it is headed by one Brian Becker of the Socialist Workers Party, or Progressive Communist Party of the U.S.A. - a coterie of former Trotskyites led by a Sam Darcy who broke with Trotsky's disciples - the guy himself had been long dead, pick-axed in the brain by the Stalinists - to - yep, become Stalinist Communists, Maoist (until he met Nixon), and then following Enver Hoxha in Albania. Becker - a "Red Diaper" (sad to say) Jewish-born self-loathing Fascist, has journeyed throughout the world to places few of us would ever want to go - he has been a honored guest of Kim Il Jong, who treats him to lavish feasts while babies are starved or froze to death in the wastes of North Korea's Gulags. He has been to Iran, openly supports Hamas, and sympathize with Bin Laden - Becker was one of the first to urge NO U.S. Imperialist response to 9/11 - in short, a Stalinazi fascist. He and his brother lead ANSWER, alongside a few other fellow Stalinazi fascists.

If Grant and Meicht - striking a woman is sure the way of an American soldier, pardon my deep sarcasm - still argue they're not traitors, then the evidence is right in their faces. They are. Ask Grant if he'd like to join his Uncles Adolf and Joe?

Note: The peace protestors have been playing victim and demonizing Rich Davis calling them "Jack-botted thugs", "full of violence and hate" and "old men fullfilling wet dreams by sending younger men off to war" since they arrived last September.   They don't like that they can no longer protest unopposed.  They have recruited the bottom of the barrel extremists and groups include, "Veterans For Peace" - (a continuation of the Vietnam Winter Soldiers and ally of the Iraq Vets Against The War) and Women in Black (a group that recently gave Code Pink leaders their annual "Vagina Warrior Award").

Rich Davis calls his group the Chester County Victory Movement (CCVM). Check out their blog www.americansheepdogs.com.  And they have received a lot of support from the Gathering of Eagles (www.gatheringofeagles.org). 

Atlas salutes the GOE and CCVM for not letting these "propagandists for the enemy" go unopposed.  "PINO" (peace in name only) protestors around the country are mischaracterizing our troops, undermining their mission and attacking our military recruiters, and should be opposed whenever possible.  NEVER AGAIN, NOT THIS WAR, NOT THESE TROOPS.

I covet Richard's trip. I find North Korea, with its extreme isolation, an incredibly mysterious place I'd LOVE to visit. Well, Richard is going there - I'm happy for him. Geert Wilders: Fitna the Movie

Wilders will run the film on his new website , Fitna the movie, if his film gets banned before release. Keep checking the site. I am. The death  threats keep coming.

Here's the deal according to Europe News:

The film isn't live yet. When it goes live, it is recommended to download it to the hard drive immediately. Islamists can be expected to attack the web site with every means at their disposal, and for sure someone will try to abuse some obscure law to get it legally banned, too.

Interesting times. Politicians have a duty to protect our civil liberties, but that seems all but forgotten in the Netherlands. There must be many others beside Wilders who can be pursuaded into a little risk-taking for this purpose.

Update:

Word is that the movie will be released on the Internet only after being broadcast in the Netherlands. The government is causing trouble over this, calling Wilders in for a "friendly talk" to talk him out of publishing his movie, and themselves out of having to protect freedom of expression.

Other EU countries are considering reactions towards Netherlands for this act of attempted censorship, which is an affront violation of fundamental European principles.

But keep checking that URL. The fabled movie just might show up.
