NYS Legislators Fire Nearly 200 Workers Over Race Brain Terminal, Evan Maloney (hat tip Clyde)

Fredric U. Dicker—regarded as the pre-eminent political reporter in New York’s state capital—recently published a column decrying the complete breakdown of the state legislature, which has been unable to conduct business for the past month.

Buried way down in Dicker’s piece, starting at the 19th paragraph, we learn:

During the first five months of this year, with the Senate under the control of its first African-American majority leader, [State Senator Malcolm] Smith, top Democrats bemoaned the lack of minority Senate staffers.

But instead of trying to recruit new hires, they fired nearly 200 almost exclusively white workers and replaced them with a large number of minority employees, many of whom were seen by their fellow workers to be unskilled at their new jobs.

The move produced severe racial tensions, made worse by the fact that, as a high-level Democratic staffer confided, “We’ve been told to only hire minorities.'’

So nearly 200 people lose their jobs in New York State because of their race? And not at the hands of some evil corporation, but our own elected officials?

It’s quite telling that, in our political age, mass firings can still happen because of one’s race. It’s even more telling that—the only time I’ve seen this story get any coverage at all—it was in the 19th paragraph of an otherwise unrelated column.

Breaking: TVNewser has learned the CBS Evening News has once again set an all-time low last week with 4.89 million Total Viewers and 1.42 million A25-54 viewers. But it was also the lowest (since records began in the 1991-'92 season) for ABC's World News with Charles Gibson. The Gibson program drew 6.42 million Total Viewers and 1.77 million A25-54 viewers.

Bow, Katie, bow! Million dollar $alaries. Bwahahahahahahaha. The trend continues.

ABC has made the unprecedented move of giving prime-time programing air time to President Barack Obama for a health care reform special to be aired next week. Perhaps it is not too surprising that Obama has landed himself some prime viewing time on ABC. After all, former ABC News correspondent Linda Douglass is now the Director of Communications for the Obama White House Office of Health Reform. Coincidence? One would be excused to suspect it.

Worse yet,

ABC’s biased “Prescription for America” will be giving Obama a free platform to promote his health care reform plan. However, no opposing viewpoints will be presented, as the station is not featuring any Republicans on the program to balance the president’s proposals. ABC’s Charlie Gibson and Diane Sawyer are to ‘moderate’ the nationally televised infomercial. In an interesting ‘coincidence’, former ABC News correspondent Linda Douglass is now the Director of Communications for the Obama White House Office of Health Reform. The mainstream media is working hard for the Democrats America.

Even more disturbing is that ABC will not allow any advertisements that offer a differing point of view. Rick Scott, chairman of Conservatives for Patients Rights, submitted an ad to ABC that offers a free-market alternative to President Obama’s $1 trillion plus health care reform plan, but the ad was rejected. A spokesperson for ABC said the ad was rejected because the network does not accept “advocacy advertising.” This is absurd, as ABC is itself advocating state-run health care.

In Friday’s (6/30/3009) Wall Street Journal, a former lieutenant governor of New York state, Betsy McCaughey, notes that even if you like your current health plan, you won’t be able to keep it, unless you are a federal employee or member of Congress. She points to the exemptions in section 3116. Here’s an excerpt:

Last September Sen. Barack Obama promised that under his health-care proposal “you’ll be able to get the same kind of coverage that members of Congress give themselves.” On Monday, President Obama repeated that promise in a speech to the American Medical Association. It’s not true.

The president is barnstorming the nation, urging swift approval of legislation that is taking shape in Congress. This legislation — the Affordable Health Choices Act that’s being drafted by Sen. Edward Kennedy’s staff and the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee — will push Americans into stingy insurance plans with tight, HMO-style controls. It specifically exempts members of Congress (along with federal employees; the exemptions are in section 3116).

Members of Congress “enjoy the widest selection of health plans in the country,” according to the U.S. Office of Personnel Management. They “can choose from among consumer-driven and high deductible plans that offer catastrophic risk protection with higher deductibles, health saving/reimbursable accounts and lower premiums, or fee-for-service (FFS) plans, and their preferred provider organizations (PPO), or health maintenance organizations (HMO).” These choices would be nice for all of us, but they’re not in the offing. Instead, if you don’t enroll in a “qualified” health plan and submit proof of enrollment to the federal government, you’ll be tracked down and fined (sections 3101 and 6055).

For a health plan to count as “qualified,” it has to meet all the restrictions listed in the legislation and whatever criteria the Secretary of Health and Human Services imposes after the bill becomes law. You may think you’re in a “qualified” plan, but the language suggests that only plans with managed-care controls such as the “medical home” will meet the definition (sections 3101 and 2707).

“Medical home” is this decade’s version of HMO-style insurance, according to the Congressional Budget Office, with a primary-care provider to manage your access to costly services such as visits to specialists and diagnostic tests. Medical home providers in “qualified” plans, states the Kennedy bill, will have a “payment structure” based on “incentives” rather than payments for each doctor visit or procedure (section 3101).

These requirements are reminiscent of the unpopular controls HMOs imposed two decades ago that caused public outrage and led to state laws reining in abuses. In December 2008, a Congressional Budget Office report evaluating early drafts of major federal health insurance proposals noted that “medical homes” were likely to resemble the HMO gatekeepers of 20 years ago if cost control is a priority.

In a nutshell we all lose our plans unless we are federal employees or members of Congress, so it must really be bad. In fixing healthcare, are the only answers bad?

Two pastors had held a seminar in 2003 comparing Islam and the Koran, with Christianity and the Bible.

Muslims filed a complaint against them, and the pastors were found guilty of vilifying Islam.

They were ordered to apologize.

Both pastors refused, saying they had the right to freely express their views about Islam. That decision has now been set aside and the pastors will get a new trial.

WEST PARK - Broward County has its first street named for the new president, but it will not be until July before the signs proclaiming Barack Obama Boulevard will be put up.

Shortly after Obama was inaugurated, commissioners from West Park, Broward County's newest city, voted to rename Southwest 40th Avenue for him.

City commissioner Tommy Dorsett said Obama represents people coming together to accomplish goals and "it's what I hope for West Park. That we work together to get things done."

Dorsett made the proposal after attending a renaming ceremony in Opa-Locka, the first South Florida city to name a street for the new president.

Actually, the street was 40th Avenue in West Park (Hollywood Florida subdivision), but now it's officially called Barack Obama Boulevard.

I am not a psychologist, nor do I play one on TV, but after reading Guy Cimbalo's vitriolic spewing of hate, made me realize that the  "writer" must have had an oppressed childhood and a poor sex life as an adult.  This vile piece uses the "F" word more often than Al Pacino did in Scarface. But worse than the language is the way he talks about these Women and why he would not have sex with them, he calls that "The Hate F**k Rating"

Along the way he disparages some of the best writers out there, people who I read every day, whose careers I hope to mirror; Michelle Malkin, Mary Katharine Ham, Amanda Carpenter and my close friend Pamela Geller.

The internet is a weird place, any idiot with a computer can start writing.  Some like myself are lucky enough to build up a following. There are times that we object to people's ideas and make fun of them. We even make fun of their political crutches like TOTUS. But there are lines that most of us know not to cross, Guy Cimbalo leapfrogged over that line. His So Right it's Wrong is not only an attempt to denigrate these fine writers, but all women, actually all writers everywhere. It has no other purpose, it doesn't inform, it isn't funny, the article's only purpose is to be mean.

In my youth I read Playboy often, and never thought the pictures were pornography, but Guy Cimbalo attempt at writing at Playboy.com, THAT is pornography at it worst.

General David Petraeus Honored at The Union League Club, NYC

Tonight, outside of The Union League Club in Manhattan, great Americans gathered to support American War Hero General David Petraeus, who was receiving an honor from John Negroponte. The traitorous leftwing showed up as well. Code Pinkos and World Can't Waiters showed up with their tortuous gitmostreet theatre. Theatrics ensued! Lots of VIDEO. 'Waterboarding fun!'

The left in America. It's enough to make you puke. And the irony is, great men like Petraeus fight and put their lives on the line everyday to protect and defend these asshats.

General David Petraeus was honored tonight by John Negroponte at The Union League Club in Manhattan. A contingent of orange jumpsuit-clad protesters had planned 'dramatic tableau' which consisted of a two-tier street theatre performance including an 'actual' waterboarding. The first took place at Grand Central Station and the second outside the event venue on East 37th Street. A Gathering of Eagles and others came out to support an American hero, David Petraeus. What we may have lacked in numbers was made up for with superior sign power.

Allison Kilkenny at Huffington Post applied the left-wing attack on Bolton specifically as to Bolton's North Korea position, in a post titled, Update: John Bolton Still Crazy:

Today, Bolton chose to growl at the old, but reliable, enemy of North Korea. This is a particularly vintage move when one considers North Korea already tried to strike fear into the hearts of Americans last month when they tested a missile that fizzled and fell into the ocean 1,300 miles off the east coast of Japan. Bolton's stance is pretty brave because his frenzied ideology flies in the face of scholarly counsel.

Senate Majority Leader Horsford's decision to force the Senate into session at 2:45 a.m. last night/this morning wasn't a sign of panic. No, no, it was a shrewd decision to ensure that the Senate acted in the wisest possible way.

Horsford had convened the senators around 2:45 a.m., invoking a rule that trapped them in the chamber and allowed absent members to be tracked down and rounded up. The upper house had been in recess since 11 p.m.

During the hours of recess, yet another round of closed-door talks seeking accord on a package of tax hikes and public employee benefit reforms had broken down.

Senate Minority Leader Bill Raggio, R-Reno, called Horsford’s action a “threat.”

“I think it is very inappropriate and imprudent if it’s to hold us hostage here until we cave in,” he said.

Sen. Horsford even tried an "enhanced" negotiating technique.

Sen. Warren Hardy, R-Las Vegas, got up to leave. "Anyone have a tea cup? I have to use the bathroom."

Senate sergeants at arms staff didn't move or respond.

Hardy turned to Horsford. "Can I use the bathroom?"

Horsford said, "I'm just following the rules."

A massive amount of sensitive, national security-related information from the Clinton  administration has gone missing from the national archives.

The Inspector General of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) told congressional committee staffers Tuesday that a hard drive containing over a terabyte of information -- the equivalent of millions of books--went missing from the NARA facility in College Park, Md., sometime between October 2008 and March 2009.

The Department of Justice and the Secret Service are conducting an investigation, but it's so far unclear whether the drive was lost as the result of a crime or an accident.

CIA Denies Cheney's Request to Release Intelligence Documents

Former Vice President Argues Documents Demonstrate That Harsh Interrogation Tactics

The CIA has rejected a request from former vice president Richard B. Cheney to release documents that he says show that the agency's harsh interrogation methods helped thwart terrorist plots.

A letter released by the CIA today cites pending legal action as the sole reason for keeping the documents under seal.

"For that reason -- and that reason only -- CIA did not accept Mr. Cheney's request for a mandatory declassification review," agency spokesman Paul Gimigliano said.

Cheney, who has sparred publicly with the Obama administration since it prohibited coercive interrogations in January, submitted a formal request to the National Archives and Records Administration on March 31, asking for the declassification of two secret documents that were said to describe the intelligence gained from the CIA's questioning of suspected al-Qaeda terrorists in overseas prisons.

Cheney, in a Fox News interview last month, said the documents "lay out what we learned from the interrogation process" and would presumably validate Bush administration claims that the controversial methods disrupted terrorists' plans and saved American lives.

Pelosi accused the CIA of lying. I cannot wait for the fallout.

Pelosi Accuses CIA Of Lying Legal Insurrection

Nancy Pelosi is holding a press conference in which she has acknowledged being briefed by the CIA about waterboarding in 2002, but accuses the CIA of lying to Congress about the use of the technique and whether the techniques were legal. Pelosi also acknowledged, when pressed by questions, that she was told in 2003 by an assistant, that the CIA was using waterboarding. This puts Pelosi and Democrats in Congress who support her on a collision course with the intelligence community.

Pelosi claimed that she took action to stop the policies, by working to take control of Congress and passing legislation several years later. Pelosi also used a logical and political slight of hand by asserting that at the same time the Bush administration was misleading Congress about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

Pelosi has upped the ante, and it seems inevitable that there will be a "truth commission" to find out what the person two heartbeats from the presidency knew, and when she knew it.

Much needed cuts were made in February to the SEIU, the unionized home health care workers, as part of the budget approved by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and state lawmakers.

The Service Employees International Union, which represents the workers, said in a statement that it had asked the Obama administration to intervene.

What Happens When Obama Does it?

We all watched for 8 years while the left derided, disrespected, and ferociously impugned Bush and company over deaths in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. The relentless pounding took its toll on the American psyche.

147 people were killed during fighting on Monday night and Tuesday in Afghanistan, the deadliest case of civilian casualties in Afghanistan since the 2001 U.S.-led invasion that ousted the Taliban regime. The muted reporting on this is interesting, with the Obamedia using terms like "if true". Was Bush ever given that benefit of the doubt? War is ugly, no doubt, but this is too much.

Will Cindy Sheehan and Jody of Code Pink be camping our in front of dear leader's Hyde Park home? Will the supplicant press corp berate Obama at his daily press conference or stick to "enchanted" questions? Just askin.

If this were the Bush administration would the headline read this way?

US denies 147 civilians killed in Afghan violence AP (hat tip dave)

KABUL – The U.S. military said Friday reports that as many as 147 civilians died in fighting involving American forces and the Taliban were "extremely over-exaggerated" and investigators were still analyzing the data collected at the site.

In the south, meanwhile, four NATO soldiers and 21 civilians died in a string of insurgent attacks, and an unmanned U.S. drone crashed in central Ghazni province.

Officials said preliminary findings of the joint U.S.-Afghan investigation into the deaths in the villages of Ganjabad and Gerani in the western Farah province could be released as early as Friday, but they have yet to schedule an announcement.

Reports of the large number of civilian deaths come at an awkward time for the Obama administration, as the U.S. steps up its military campaign here while emphasizing the importance of nonmilitary efforts to stabilize the country.

While the reports of civilian deaths at the hands of international force in the past were met by an immediate outcry from President Hamid Karzai's administration, this time the response was muted. The most ferocious reaction came from lawmakers in the parliament, who demanded of foreign troops' operations be regulated by a special agreement with the Afghan government, without specifying what that would entail.

A local official said that he collected from residents the names of 147 people killed during fighting on Monday night and Tuesday. If true, it would be the deadliest case of civilian casualties in Afghanistan since the 2001 U.S.-led invasion that ousted the Taliban regime.

Survey: Jews are Blamed for Economic Crisis Israel National News by Hillel Fendel

(IsraelNN.com) A survey conducted by the Boston Review in its May/June issue shows that nearly 25% of American non-Jews blame “the Jews” a moderate amount or more for the financial crisis.

Furthermore, a total of 38.4% of the non-Jews in the U.S. attribute at least some level of blame to the group.

Possibly most significant of all were the subconscious anti-Semitic tendencies revealed based on the way the questions were phrased to different groups.

Neil Malhotra, Assistant Professor of Political Economy in the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University, and Dr. Yotam Margalit of Stanford University, conducted the study. It was part of a survey of 2,768 American adults exploring responses and anti-Semitic sentiments vis-à-vis the economic collapse. 

They found that Democrats were significantly more prone to blaming Jews than Republicans: while 32% of Democrats accorded at least moderate blame, compared to only 18.4% of Republicans.

The researchers carried out a fascinating experiment in the course of the study.  The goal was to see what happens when Wall Street corruption is explicitly associated with Jewish financiers such as Bernard Madoff; would that affect people’s views on bailing out big business?

To address this question, they randomly assigned national survey participants to one of three groups. All three were prompted with a one-paragraph news report that briefly described the Madoff scandal, and were then asked their views about providing government tax breaks to big business in order to spur job creation.

The text of the paragraph about Madoff had slight differences for the three groups: The first group was told that Madoff is an “American investor” who contributed to “educational charities,” the second group was told that he is a “Jewish-American investor” who contributed to “educational charities,” and the third group was told that Madoff is an “American investor” who contributed to “Jewish educational charities.”

The findings were “revealing and disturbing,” the researchers wrote. Those people who were told explicitly that Madoff is Jewish were almost twice as likely to oppose the tax cuts to big business. While only 10% those who were given no information about his Jewishness said they opposed tax cuts for big business, over 17% of those who were told that Madoff is Jewish opposed the gestures to big business. “This difference is highly significant in statistical terms,” the researchers conclude.

To complete the picture, the “middle” group – those who were told that Madoff was an American who gave to Jewish charities – produced a 14% opposition rate.

When Jewish respondents were assigned to the three groups, they had “the exact same policy preferences in all three groups,” wrote Margalit and Malhotra.  Nor were there any differences between the groups on other proposals that did not deal with the business sector, but rather with federal support for state governments or with tax breaks for the middle class. 

The researchers noted that the greater tendency among Democrats than Republicans to blame Jews is “somewhat surprising, given the presumed higher degree of racial tolerance among liberals, and the fact that Jews are a central part of the Democratic Party’s electoral coalition.

Hate Crime Protection for Pedophiles but No Protection for Military

Hate crime -- hate is in the eye of the beholder, eh? And if you are a Democrat - you protect child rapists, but G-d forbid you protect the military.

Hate crime legislation will be used as a tool against the right. Period. A crime is a crime. WTF is the "hate" bias? Will those screaming for the death to Jews at those demonstrations in January be prosecuted under these laws?

During a House Judiciary Committee meeting, Congressman Steve King (R-IA) offered up an amendment to the hate crimes bill to exclude pedophiles from being a protected category under the hate crimes legislation.

Every single Democrat voted it down.

In the same meeting, Congressman Tom Rooney (R-FL) offered an amendment to include veterans as a class protected under the hate crimes bill. Not only did the Democrats vote it down, but Cogresswoman Debbie Waasserman Schultz attacked the Republicans for even thinking veterans might need protection under hate crimes legislation. After all, who but Democrats in Congress hate veterans?

There are only 242 crimes where there is actually some – truly – an assault, and we just rejected an amendment to including pedophilia from being a part of this protected class. Do you realize what that means?

If a mother hears that their child has been raped and she slaps the assailant with her purse, she is now gone after as a hate criminal because this is a protected class. There are other protected classes in here. I mean simple exhibitionism. I have female friends who have told me over the years that some guy flashed them, and their immediate reaction was to hit them with their purse. Well now, he's committed a misdemeanor, she has committed a federal hate crime because the exhibitionism is protected under sexual orientation.

I know my friend said that we have a definition in the law, but there is nothing in this bill that references the definitions in the Hate Crimes Statistical Act…it's not there. We asked that it be added so we could get a specific definition. It is not there.

And having reviewed cases as an appellate judge, I know that when the legislature has the chance to include a definition and refuses, then what we look at is the plain meaning of those words. The plain meaning of sexual orientation is anything to which someone is orientated. That could include exhibitionism, it could include necrophilia (sexual arousal/activity with a corpse) … it could include Urophilia (sexual arousal associated with urine), voyeurism. You see someone spying on you changing clothes and you hit them, they've committed a misdemeanor, you've committed a federal felony under this bill. It is so wrong.

King, Porter wrote, also told the full U.S. House that the APA has a list of 547 different "paraphilias" that would be protected by members of Congress under the "hate crimes" plan.

U.S. Rep. Alcee Hastings, D-Fla., a "hate crimes" supporter, agreed, saying:

This bill addresses our resolve to end violence based on prejudice and to guarantee that all Americans regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability or all of these 'Philias' and fetishes and 'ism's' that were put forward need not live in fear because of who they are. I urge my colleagues to vote in favor of this rule…"

Porter said families, parents, Americans, anyone interested in the future of the nation, needs to contact their members in the Senate and demand hearings, then demand a filibuster.

"Pushing away an unwelcome advance of a homosexual, transgendered, cross-dresser or exhibitionist could make you a felon under this law. Speaking out against the homosexual agenda could also make you a felon if you are said to influence someone who pushes away that unwelcome advance. And pedophiles and other sexual deviants would enjoy an elevated level of protection while children, seniors, veterans, and churches would not," Porter said.

The "hate crimes" proposal not only sets up criminal charges against those whose actions or words offend homosexuals but also provides money "to improve the education and training of local officials to identify, investigate, prosecute and <I>prevent</i> hate crimes."

President Obama, supported strongly during his campaign by homosexual advocates, appears ready to respond to their desires.

"I urge members on both sides of the aisle to act on this important civil rights issue by passing this legislation to protect all of our citizens from violent acts of intolerance," he said.

Gary Cass of the Christian Anti-Defamation Commission said the Senate proposal could be voted on in committee as early as tomorrow.

"You must call the Senate today and demand that they hold hearings on this bill," he wrote. "It is one of the most radical pieces of legislation to ever make its way to the Senate. If passed, it will lay the groundwork for restricting religious liberty and freedom of speech as it has in Canada and Europe."

Similar state laws have resulted in persecution for Christians. In Philadelphia several years ago, a 73-year-old grandmother was jailed for trying to share Christian tracts with people at a homosexual festival.

Rep. Virginia Foxx, R-N.C., said H.R. 1913 will create "thought crimes," and U.S. Rep. Trent Franks, R-Ariz., said it will end equality in the U.S.

Gohmert warned the law will be used against pastors – or anyone else – who speaks against homosexuality or other alternative sexual lifestyle choices. He said it provides that anyone who through speech "induces" commission of a violent hate crime "will be tried as a principal" alongside the active offender.

Critics say that would allow for prosecutions against pastors who preach a biblical ban on homosexuality if someone who hears such a message later is accused of any crime.

Andrea Lafferty, executive director of the Traditional Values Coalition, said, "A pastor's sermon could be considered 'hate speech' under this legislation if heard by an individual who then acts aggressively against persons based on 'sexual orientation.' The pastor could be prosecuted for 'conspiracy to commit a hate crime'" she said.

The bill previously failed when President Bush determined it was unnecessary – the crimes banned in the legislation already are addressed by other laws – and it probably is unconstitutional.

What makes the already juicy story of Somali refugees from Finland going back to Somalia to wage jihad and earn a wad of money, while Finnish documentary crew direct them in Finnish, even juicier, is that the cameraman, Jussi Arhinmäki (click for a video of him), is brother to a member of the Finnish parliament, Paavo Arhinmäki, for the Leftist party (Vasemmisto).

The leftopaths have had it out for Harman almost as long as they have for Lieberman. She may be a Democrat, but she is not popular. She is not hard left, she's not radical. She loves America. Harman is very pro-military, and worked well with Bush and his people. Pelosi dislikes Harman intensely, and would like to see her go. Remember, Pelosi robbed Harman of the chairmanship of the Intelligence Committee. It should have been Harman's - even the LA Times said so:

Jane Harman (D-Venice), but on Rep. Alcee L. Hastings (D-Fla.).

A litany of explanations have been adduced to explain why Pelosi would bypass Harman, an expert on intelligence matters who has won the respect of both parties while criticizing some of the Bush administration's excesses in the war on terror. None of them is persuasive. Harman has earned this chairmanship.

Harman is to the Democrats what Lincoln Chaffee was to Republicans. There is no story here, but grist for the mill. She won't be prosecuted for anything, but her reputation is smeared. Tainted goods. Any hope Harman had of chairmanship or otherwise are dashed.

Once again they are demonizing the Jews (the evil Jewish lobby!). Forget that Iran has a lobby, the enviro-mentals have an army of lobbies, Islamic extremists have lobbies, the Saudis own the lobby of Congress, any five year old can and does lobby ........... THE JEWISH LOBBY! The objective is to demonize the Jews while Obama abandons them.

The Democrats railed against the NSA privacy issues, but The left  is pimping this information and appears to want to use it against those who do not share their fascist ideology.

Who leaked it? Where is the prosecution? Who leaked classified information, and why isn't that the story?

Harman Tape Leak A Shot Across Israel's Bow

As others have pointed out, the story is replete with open questions, such as who was the "suspected Israeli agent," and whether such person was Israeli or American or other. Others question the timing, coming soon before the trial of the AIPAC officials is to take place (after the DOJ suffered serious legal setbacks on the case).

While these analyses are interesting, they miss the point. Leaks of highly classified NSA wiretaps don't just happen. Someone has to have a purpose, and have confidence that they will not become the subject of prosecution for leaking the material. While the leak may have some relationship to the upcoming trial, I think it is more likely that the leak is an attempt to set supporters of Israel back on their heels in light of a growing U.S.-Israel dispute over Israel's alleged plans to attack Iran's nuclear facilities. Israel denies have imminent plans to attack, although one would not expect such acknowledgement anyway.

Israel's plans to attack Iran have been receiving increased press attention, drawing a public voice of disapproval from U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates. I think this analysis from the website DebkaFile highlights the shift in American strategic thinking:

...Israel is no longer a prime factor in US global policy, because America has fundamentally reshuffled its Middle East allegiances and alliances. Even Tzipi Livni at the helm in Jerusalem would not divert Obama from his détente with Ahmadinejad, Assad and Chavez.

To gain points with his new friends, Obama's White House is not above nudging Israel to please them. This week, his chief of staff Rahm Emanuel told Jewish leaders whom he met in Washington that if Israel wants America's help for thwarting Iran's nuclear program, it must first start evacuating West Bank settlements.

This was of course cynical claptrap.

Even if every single settlement were to be removed and Israel lined up with Obama's quest for a Palestinian state alongside Israel, the US president would not drop Tehran or help Israel strike Iran's nuclear facilities. He has already ceded Tehran's uranium enrichment program (and therefore its drive for nuclear arms), and would forcefully oppose any Israeli military action. US defense secretary Robert Gates indicated as much this week when he went to almost absurd lengths to play down the Iranian nuclear threat and Israel's ability to handle it.

The leak of the Harman wiretap cannot be divorced from the looming Iran issue. What else could explain the timing of a leak of a conversation which took place years ago? Leaking such a conversation would have little or no effect on the upcoming trial, but would affect the ability of supporters of Israel on Capital Hill from being heard in support of Israel's right of self-defense.

Supporters of Israel, particularly Jewish supporters such as Harman, always are at risk of a charge of dual loyalty. Playing the dual loyalty card has taken place almost as long as Israel has existed, but has come back in vogue in recent years. It is interesting that the source of the story refers to the person as a "suspected" agent of Israel, which means there likely is no hard evidence that the person was actually acting on behalf of the government of Israel, as opposed to merely being a supporter of Israel.

There is a legitimate debate over whether the U.S. should support, or at least not stop, an Israeli attack on Iran. Opposition to an attack is not itself playing the dual-loyalty card, or even anti-Israel. U.S. policy makers should do what they feel is in the U.S.'s best interest. But silencing debate through use of the dual-loyalty card reflects that some feel they cannot win that debate on the merits.

The right wing bloggers who jumped on this story were so played on this.

I consider colluding with the jihadi enemy shocking, illegal and dangerous, but will this Democrat Congressman be investigated and prosecuted? I think not.

Tehran - US Banks To Set up Iran Branch (hat tip wolf)

Tehran - Four American banks, including Citibank and Goldman Sachs, have applied for opening a branch in Iran, an Iranian daily has reported.

The banks made a formal request to the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) about 20 days ago to establish a branch in the country, the Jaam-e-Jam newspaper quoted an informed source as saying.

"If the CBI approves their request, these four banks will set up a temporary branch in an Iranian free trade zone," the source told Jaam-e-Jam, without revealing the names of the other two banks.

"If they can work according to Iran's banking law, they will be allowed to open branches in Tehran and other cities."

The report comes as Tehran and Washington are to enter direct negotiations to resolve a standoff over Iran's nuclear program.

What types of domestic terrorism are there?

The FBI classifies domestic terrorist threats mostly by political motive, dividing them into three main categories: left wing, right wing, and special interest. Religious sects have also been connected with terrorist incidents.

Another type of domestic threat cited by federal law-enforcement officials in the period after September 11 is the alleged presence of Islamic extremists in the United States, operating either as an arm of a foreign organization or a homegrown cell. A 2007 survey by the conservative Heritage Foundation looks at least nineteen “foiled” terrorist plots, all within U.S. borders. Experts say often the groups linked to such plots are not wholly domestic; groups like al-Qaeda are establishing smaller, localized cells that rely on people who have longtime residence within a country to organize grassroots attacks.

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), a civil rights law firm that tracks hate groups, says these groups are not always considered domestic terrorists since they may be purely ideological, with no potential for violence. Right-wing extremist groups that engage in violence usually fit the criteria of a hate group. Left-wing and environmental extremist groups are not hate groups, according to the SPLC, because they do not espouse rhetoric that targets specific groups that have a defining characteristic.

What is right-wing domestic terrorism?

Attacks committed by people who favor individual freedoms over governmental regulation are classified as right-wing domestic terrorism.

Such extremists may be motivated by issues of race, such as the Ku Klux Klan, or other issues, such as opposition to abortion or immigration. According to the FBI, right-wing terrorists often take “racist and racial supremacy and embrace antigovernment, antiregulatory” platforms. Far-right movements often blend political rhetoric with racial undertones, despite recent attempts to reach a broader audience by eliminating racial language. Authorities do not categorize people with extreme right-wing political ideals as threats unless the group they are affiliated with demonstrates a real potential for violence.

Are right-wing domestic terrorists still active?

Yes. Attacks by left-wing or special-interest groups were the most common until the 1990s, when right-wing terrorists began staging more attacks aimed at civilians. The FBI says that the Oklahoma City bombing was carried out by far-right extremists who feared increased UN involvement in domestic policies, opposed stricter gun-control laws, and were enraged by “several confrontations between members of right-wing groups and law enforcement officers at Waco, Texas, and Ruby Ridge, Idaho.” A right-wing extremist, Eric Robert Rudolph, was also responsible for the 1996 Olympics bombing in Atlanta that killed two and injured more than one hundred. The decline of right-wing terrorist attacks since 2001 could be attributed to extremists’ anger shifting toward foreign entities and away from the U.S. government, the Los Angeles Times reported in March 2008.

The FBI reports that eight of the fourteen terrorist acts prevented between 2002 and 2005 were planned by right-wing groups. The others ranged from an anarchist plan to bomb a Coast Guard station, a prison-gang attempt to attack military and Jewish targets around Los Angeles, and a few people who attempted, individually, to establish ties with al-Qaeda.

Al Qaeda is a right wing extremist group? And just for knowing, almost all of the anti-semitic attacks across America and the world have been committed by Muslims.

What is special-interest terrorism and how often does it occur?

Special-interest terrorism is perpetrated by the “extreme fringes” of social movements, such as animal rights, environmental, and antinuclear groups. According to the FBI, one of the most visible movements in the last ten years is termed “ecoterrorism.” Groups like the Earth Liberation Front and the Animal Liberation Front target facilities and materials that are perceived to be harmful to the environment or animals. Extremists advocating for better treatment of the earth and animals were responsible for twenty-three of the twenty-four terrorist attacks during 2002 to 2005. Environmental extremists are suspected of the early March 2008 arson that destroyed several new, unoccupied luxury homes near Seattle.

And the 13,000 radical Islamic attacks since 9/11?  A blip.

Generally the special-interest groups are composed of small, autonomous cells that are difficult to infiltrate because of their security and secrecy. Common tactics like arson, vandalism, and animal theft avoid physically harming humans and are meant to cause economic harm to the victims, according to the FBI.

Which type of extremism poses the greatest threat to the United States?

Although environmental extremists were responsible for nearly all the domestic terrorist attacks between 2002 and 2005, right-wing extremists are still considered the most dangerous to the United States, says the SPLC. Right-wing extremist attacks are planned to target people, and if successfully carried out, intend to kill many civilians. Ecoterrorist attacks, on the other hand, aim to sabotage the infrastructure of businesses and corporations that endanger the earth; the groups do not aim to kill massive amounts of people.

The FBI says right-wing extremists have the potential to carry out the most deadly domestic attacks since they have a tendency to amass weapons and explosives and have “a propensity for violence.” Increasingly, right-wing terrorism threats come from what the FBI calls the “lone wolf” terrorist in the FBI Strategic Plan 2004-2009. Such an individual is a fringe member of a formal extremist group but acts alone instead of carrying out a group-planned attack. Despite limited funding, solo attacks can be deadly and are difficult to detect.

Corrupt Media "Teabags" the Tea Parties

How disgusting .... the leftist media tools were equating the phenomenon of the rising of the people across this great nation, perhaps a million good folks, to "tea bagging". To understand tea-bagging, imagine the dunking motion of a tea bag when making tea. Now instead of a cup, picture someone's mouth, and instead of a tea bag, picture testicles. I find it difficult to believe the leftopaths would use such a colloquialism - particularly since they have no balls.

Clearly, Anderson Cooper does a lot of teabagging, as he seems to know a great deal about it. Apparently he can't do two things at once ............

"Teabagging" - a sex act - you learn something new from the leftwing media everyday.

Watching leftist media coverage of this great American phenomenon was like watching a car wreck in slo mo. Or a drug addict injecting the last fatal dose.

Cable Anchors, Guests Use Tea Parties as Platform for Frat House Humor Cable anchors and guests covered the anti-tax tea party protests by cracking a litany of barely concealed sexual references. FOX New

For thousands of Americans, Tax Day was a moment to protest what they see as bloated budgets and a pile of debt being passed on to their children. 

For CNN, MSNBC and other media outlets, it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to use the word "teabagging" in a sentence. 

Teabagging, for those who don't live in a frat house, refers to a sexual act involving part of the male genitalia and a second person's face or mouth. 

So when the anti-tax "tea party" protests were held Wednesday across the country, cable anchors and guests -- who for weeks had all but ignored the story -- covered the protests by cracking a litany of barely concealed sexual references. 

CNN anchor Anderson Cooper interspersed "teabagging" references with analyst David Gergen's more staid commentary on how Republicans are still "searching for their voice." 

"It's hard to talk when you're teabagging," Cooper explained. Gergen laughed, but Cooper kept a straight face. 

MSNBC's David Shuster weaved a tapestry of "Animal House" humor Monday as he filled in for Countdown host Keith Olbermann. 

The protests, he explained, amount to "Teabagging day for the right wing and they are going nuts for it." 

He described the parties as simultaneously "full-throated" and "toothless," and continued: "They want to give President Obama a strong tongue-lashing and lick government spending." Shuster also noted how the protesters "whipped out" the demonstrations this past weekend. 

Tea Party participants were not amused. The events were held in dozens of cities across the country, and while some demonstrators were criticized for wielding off-topic and sometimes insensitive protest signs, most took to the streets to speak out against government spending. 

Brent Bozell, president of the conservative Media Research Center, said the media coverage was "insulting," reacting specifically to CNN reporter Susan Roesgen's combative interviews with Illinois demonstrators in which she declared that the protests were "anti-CNN" and supported by FOX News. She left the teabagging jokes to her colleagues, though. 

"I've never seen anything like it," Bozell said. "The oral sex jokes on (CNN) and particularly MSNBC on teabagging ... they had them by the dozens. That's how insulting they were toward people who believe they're being taxed too highly." 

Max Pappas, public policy vice president at FreedomWorks -- a small-government group which promoted the tea parties -- said it's a "shame" media outlets cracked jokes at a genuine "grassroots uprising." 

"I think what that reveals is how worried they are that this might actually be something serious. You make fun of things you're afraid of, I'd say," Pappas said. 

If anyone thinks the orally charged remarks on mainstream cable were just a coincidence, MSNBC's Rachel Maddow's segments over the past week with guest, Air America's Ana Marie Cox, would dissolve all doubt. Their on-air gymnastics, dancing around the double entendre of the week, looked like live-action Beavis and Butthead. 

By one count, the two of them used the word "teabag" more than 50 times on one show. And on Monday, Cox even let the viewers in on their joke -- referencing Urbandictionary.com, a site which offers a number of colorful definitions for the term "teabagging." 

"Well, there is a lot of love in teabagging," Cox said. "It is curious, though, as you point out, they do not use the verb 'teabag.' It might be because they're less enthusiastic about teabagging than some of the more corporate conservatives who seem to have taken to it quite easily."

The Tea Party Movement has many Democrats(Mostly Moderates) involved.

Hey, I voted for Obama and am involved. Bush spent too much and Obama is tripling the debt he produced. That goes against the "fiscal discipline" he promised. You should check it out and see for your self instead of simply letting Fox News or CNN tell you what it is all about.

The one guy spewing the garbage at our Tea Party in Orlando was removed yet he is the only one the liberal local media covered and they portrayed him as being the norm. He was a plant. The Conservative local media was more accurate although they may have juiced the numbers in attendence.

Do not worry, this will only strengthen our resolve. We are getting unbelievable response and invite everyone to join our movement.

THE top suits and some of the on-air talent at CNBC were recently ordered to a top-secret meeting with General Electric CEO Jeffrey Immelt and NBC Universal President Jeff Zucker to discuss whether they've turned into the President Obama-bashing network, Page Six has learned.

"It was an intensive, three-hour dinner at 30 Rock which Zucker himself was behind," a source familiar with the powwow told us. "There was a long discussion about whether CNBC has become too conservative and is beating up on Obama too much. There's great concern that CNBC is now the anti-Obama network. The whole meeting was really kind of creepy."

One topic under the microscope, our insider said, was on-air CNBC editor Rick Santelli's rant two months ago about staging a "Chicago Tea Party" to protest the president's bailout programs -- an idea that spawned tax protest tea parties in other big cities, infuriating the White House. Homeland Security spokeswoman Sara Kuban said the report is one in an ongoing series of assessments by the department to "facilitate a greater understanding of the phenomenon of violent radicalization in the U.S."

The report, which was first disclosed to the public by nationally syndicated radio host Roger Hedgecock, makes clear that the Homeland Security Department does not have "specific information that domestic rightwing terrorists are currently planning acts of violence."It warns that fringe organizations are gaining recruits, but it provides no numbers.

The report says extremist groups have used President Obama as a recruiting tool.

Muslim father orders daughter killed over short skirt (hat tip Robert)

A Muslim resident of Russia's St. Petersburg has hired killers to rid him of a daughter who disrespected Islamic laws by wearing short skirts.

The police detained Gafar Kerimov, 46, after he reported that his daughter went missing, but blurted out that the girl was dead already, Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper reported Monday.

The family, ethnic Azerbaijanis, used to have frequent arguments about how the daughter should dress and behave.

Rashida Kirimova, 21, studied medicine at a St. Petersburg school and waved away her father’s criticism when he said her clothes weren't modest enough and were unfit for a Muslim girl.  

During winter, Rashida wore high-necked sweaters and long trousers, causing no problems in the neighborhood, but when spring came, she put on a skirt that left her knees exposed.

The father’s Muslim friends again started reproaching him for being negligent and allowing his daughter to walk around dressed like a fallen woman. They said the insult could only be washed away by blood, and introduced Gafar to a killer, who agreed to help him for around $3000.

The killer, Kadyr Suleymanov, seized the girl on April 8^th as she was hurrying to classes. He and two accomplices drove her out of the city to a suburban dump, shot her dead and covered her body with garbage.

The body was found by the police after the father confessed he had ordered the killing. Two of three criminals have been detained.

The acting director of the U.S. Census Bureau, Thomas Mesenbourg, told CNSNews.com that the bureau intends to work with community organizations to make sure every illegal alien in the United States is counted in the 2010 Census.
The Census is used to apportion the seats in the U.S. House of Representatives. States with more people get more seats in the U.S. House.
This means that a state harboring more illegal aliens can gain more House seats as long as the Census Bureau finds the illegal aliens and counts them. This also means that the illegal alien population resident in the United States during a census year has the potential to alter the regional and philosophical balance of power in Congress.
Mesenburg said: "Our job is to count everyone that resides in the U.S. -- count them once. So, certainly that’s our goal to count every individual, every resident whether they’re documented, undocumented, whether they are citizens or non-citizens."
Ruben Keoseyan, publisher of the newspaper La Raza, said the organizations at the press conference have partnered with the Census Bureau to help undocumented immigrants "come out and register" for the census.
"This is not just a partnership among the people that you see here," said Keoseyan. "This is also a partnership with the Census Bureau because we believe that we can aid in helping those people come out and register and participate in the census. It’s a much easier form. It’s going to be in Spanish."

Regular readers here know that we frequently disagree with the slanted journalism at the Anchorage Daily News. The bias appears not only on their editorial page (where even the two "conservative" voices, Dan Fagan and Paul Jenkins, are virulent over-the-top Palin-bashers) but in their news articles. We have no problem calling them out on that regularly, or pointing out such stupidity as linking to Trig Truth blogs, or investigating Trig Palin's parentage themselves.

Now, my question to Mr. Dougherty and Ms. Wright would be: How do these types of comments lead to "a relatively free flow of ideas in hopes of stimulating a vigorous conversation about happenings in our state"?

Some might ask why I don't simply flag these abusive comments via adn.com's built-in reporting features. The reason is that I can't - because I've been banned from their website. Shortly after the new comments policy was announced, I began flagging comments that, in my opinion, violated the guidelines. Within a matter of couple of days, the ADN mods banned me.

(I should note that that adn.com uses a particularly weaselly method of banning commenters. There is no notification, and to all appearances it seems that you can post comments as normal. However, the comments posted are invisible to all but the banned user. If you're wondering if you've been banned, log in to ADN and post a test comment. Then log out and refresh the page. If your comment isn't visible anymore, then you've been banned.)

So my message to Mr. Dougherty, Ms. Wright, and the rest of the ADN staff is this:

Your promises to clean up the poison at adn.com have turned out to be completely insincere. Enough is enough. No more invective about white trash, hillbillies, methamphetamine or crack cocaine use, or trailer parks. No more snarky comments about the purported sex lives of the Governor or her children, such as statements that the Governor was listening to her daughter "breeding" in her own home. No more insults towards special needs children, or speculation about the parenting skills of the Governor and her husband. No more assertions that the Governor is not the mother of her youngest child. These claims all appear on your website on a regular basis and are deeply offensive to all decent people.

Liberals understand protest and invective. When they're angry at you, they might write nasty letters or show up outside your offices with signs. Conservatives understand business and free enterprise, so we'll just target your Alaskan ad revenue.

Let me be clear about what we'll do. Every time one of the worst examples of these comments appears on adn.com, we won't flag it as offensive. We won't even contact you. Instead, we'll cache that webpage and make screen captures. Then we'll look at the Alaskan advertisers who have purchased space next to these vile comments, and pass the messages along to them with a query as to why they are financially supporting such toxic garbage.

Let's start with a few test cases, who I contacted today with the examples given above. I encourage our readers to do the same. We'll expand our database of advertisers as time goes on.

If I can motivate only 1% of this blog's readership to get involved, I can put dozens of complaints per day into the inbox of an Anchorage realtor or car dealership. And I won't limit myself to the resources of this site - I'll drag in whatever allies I can, from Team SarahFree Republic. And there are plenty of those people willing to get involved. When you consider that Team Sarah has almost 70,000 members, or that Governor Palin's Facebook page has over half a million followers, you don't want to face the impact if even a tiny percentage of those people get irate with your advertising clients.

Your lawyers and advertising people can explain until they're blue in the face that, due to fine print in your user agreement, the ADN is not legally responsible for slanderous user comments. But you, I, and everyone else knows that you are MORALLY responsible, because this toxic content appears under the banner of the Anchorage Daily News, and right next to space paid for by your advertisers.

A couple of political realities that you should refresh your knowledge on -- despite 7 months of unending savage criticism in the national media, Governor Palin still enjoys the solid approval of over 60% of Alaskans. And even those who disapprove of her are unlikely to be sympathetic to the evil personal attacks that you host on your website. I'd ask you to look even deeper into the subset of Alaskan small business owners who give you the majority of your advertising revenue - do you think they lean more Republican or Democrat? And do you think they like the idea of funding these toxic comments?

Oh, and I forgot to mention - we'll also continually remind the nice folks at McClatchy Corporate of what's going on at your paper. I'm starting with these folks, but hopefully we can expand our mailing list to include others in your corporate hierarchy, especially members of the Board of Directors. And each message will prominently mention, and link, that Pat Dougherty and Julie Wright promised to clean up this problem, but that they still inexplicably allow hate speech to appear under the banner of a McClatchy publication, next to space paid for by McClatchy clients.

We're asking that the ADN follow one of the following options -- either go to a fully-moderated format to ensure that none of this stuff ever appears on your website, or, if you can't do that, follow the example of the Juneau Empire and eliminate reader comments altogether. After all, you already have another discussion forum for readers to exercise their free speech rights.

Mr. Dougherty and Ms. Wright, keep your promises and clean up your website.

Or we'll do it for you.

OBAMA SEEKS NET CONTROL ....ENCROACHING FASCISM

A bill pending in Congress, The Cybersecurity Act of 2009, sponsored by John Rockefeller (D) and Olympia Snowe (R) attempts to deal with very real threats to the nation's cyber-infrastructure. Attacks on military, government and civilian cyber-infrastructure are all too real, and it is time the nation woke up to the problem.

But one provision in the bill has received scant attention, other than an article in Mother Jones (via Memeorandum). The provision allows the President to declare a cyber emergency, shut down the internet, and access almost any cyber-information. The President may

declare a cybersecurity emergency and order the limitation or shutdown of internet traffic to and from any compromised Federal government or United States critical infrastructure information system or network" (Sec. 18(2))

The term "United States critical infrastructure information system or network" includes federal, state and local governmental, and non-governmental systems or networks. In other words, everything. (Sec. 23(3)) The President also

shall have access to all relevant data concerning such networks without regard to any provision of law, regulation, rule or policy restricting such access. (Sec. 14(b)(1))

The standards in the Act as to what constitutes an emergency, and what the President can do with the information, are unacceptably vague. While cyber-security is increasingly important, I worry about giving such sweeping powers to ANY President, much less one who already has created a cult of personality enabled, in part, by an adoring media.

And with Rahm Emanuel, John Podesta, and James Carville at the President's side, we all can sleep peacefully knowing that the information gathered through this program will not be used for political purposes.

Remember all the fury from the Left over the Patriot Act and other attempts to give the government the ability to intercept communications believed to be between terrorists? Or to provide immunity to telecommunications companies which cooperate with the government? Why the silence here from the always-critical-of-anything-which-makes-us-safer blogs and public interest groups?

ACLU, HuffPo, Talking Points Memo, Glenn Greenwald, FireDogLake, Ezra Klein, etc. - Where are you?

Internet records to be stored for a year

Details of every email sent and website visited by people in Britain are to be stored for use by the state from tomorrow as part of what campaigners claim is a massive assault on privacy.

A European Union directive, which Britain was instrumental in devising, comes into force which will require all internet service providers to retain information on email traffic, visits to web sites and telephone calls made over the internet, for 12 months.

They let Islamic extremists in en masse, but Wilders or Feiglin they keep out, so who do they want to spy on?

NYC fried chicken joints under fire for Obama name My Way (hat tip TRK)

NEW YORK (AP) - Two New York City fried chicken restaurants in predominantly black neighborhoods are under fire for putting President Barack Obama's name on their signs.

City Councilman Charles Barron said Friday that he will organize a demonstration next week outside Obama Fried Chicken in his Brooklyn district. Organizers said they also may target Obama Fried Chicken & Pizza in Harlem.

"People from the community were calling me and saying they were outraged by this racist connection to Barack Obama and fried chicken," Barron said. "If you think that free speech gives you the right to insult and degrade us and stereotype us, then you've got a battle on your hands."

At Obama Fried Chicken & Pizza in Harlem on Friday, the "O" and the "A" had been filled in so that the awning sign read "Bam" instead of the president's name.

The person working the counter said the owner was not available and would not say when the sign had been changed. Employees, however, still were answering the phone by saying "Obama's."

At Obama Fried Chicken in Brooklyn, the person who answered the phone said the owner could not be reached.

Kevin McCall, a community activist who has been working with Barron to organize the protest, said he had spoken with the owner of Obama Fried Chicken, which was Royal Fried Chicken until recently.

McCall said the owner promised the sign would change on Sunday. If it doesn't, McCall and Barron say they will rally on Monday.

Keller said he had little use for Web sites like Google and Drudge Report: "If you're inclined to trust Google as your source for news -- Google yourself."

Keller's comments come as the Times sat down with the Newspaper Guild Wednesday in their first serious bargaining session to figure out how to extract $4.5 million in savings from the newspaper company's unionized workforce.

There are believed to be around 1,200 to 1,300 members of the Newspaper Guild working at The New York Times, and they are apparently not ready to accept the same pay cuts that their bosses did on April 1.

Police officers came under attack while they tried to help a dying man at the G20 protests in the City last night.

The victim was found by a member of the public unconscious in the street near the Bank of England just before 7.30pm yesterday.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said officers arrived on the scene to help and had to move the casualty away for urgent treatment after bottles were thrown at them by protesters.

That will accommodate Muslims who want to pray during the work day. The chicken processor will also pay $215,000 to 128 Somali-American Muslims who claimed religious discrimination, including discharge and discipline.

In a related case involving an employment agency, The Work Connection, another $150,000 will be paid to 28 people. They refused to sign forms stating they would not refuse to handle pork if they were referred to work at Gold'n plump facilities in Cold Spring, Minn., and Arcadia, Wis.

A federal judge gave approval for Gold'n Plump Inc. and an employment agency to pay $1.35 million to settle lawsuits alleging religious discrimination against Muslims at a chicken processing plant in Cold Spring, Minn.

The money will go to 128 Somali Muslims who claim that St. Cloud-based Gold'n Plump violated their religious rights by refusing to allow them prayer breaks during work hours, and to another 28 workers who said a St. Paul employment agency, the Work Connection Inc., required them to sign forms acknowledging they would be required to handle pork.

If they don't want to handle pork, don't take this job (away from an American, no doubt).

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission investigated the allegations and said it found cause to believe discrimination occurred, according to lawsuits filed last year.

In a settlement approved Tuesday by U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeanne Graham, Gold'n Plump will add a paid break during the second half of each shift to accommodate Muslim employees who wish to pray. The break is in addition to one early in the shift and lunch breaks required by law.

The Work Connection has agreed to provide offers of employment to the 28 job seekers who were turned away for not signing the "pork form."

The $1.35 million settlement includes $985,000 for legal costs and $365,000 in cash payments to the 156 workers

Florida Gov’t Cancels Tea Party Fearing ‘Too Many Attendees’  Stop the ACLU

CNN (Continental News Network) Boston, 1773: The city of Boston canceled a proposed protest over tea taxes today, citing the fear that too many people dressed as Indians would be gathered near the wharves. Organizers expressed sadness over the cancellation, but meekly returned to their homes fearful of upsetting the officers of the Crown. Taxmen breathed a sigh of relief as the tar and feathers were put away not to be used this day.

You don’t remember that pre-revolutionary history? I should say you shouldn’t, because it didn’t happen. But flash forward a few hundred years and you’ll find it is happening today in Cape Coral, Florida where city officials canceled a tax day tea party gathering because they “feel too many people could show-up.”

That’s right, folks, the God-given, long-held American right to assemble and protest the actions of our government has been canceled due to too much popularity of the protest.

And what does it come down to? Money. You see, the city officials want an insurance policy taken out so that organizers can cover any loss that might occur as a result of the rally. And those insurance policies cost hundreds of dollars.

The tea party organizers of Cape Coral, though, aren’t the only ones to find this restriction of their free speech and rights to assemble. Tea party organizers all across the country have begun to find out just how difficult, if not impossible, it is to be “allowed” to exercise their God-given right to speak their minds against government excess and criminality. City governments all across the country are charging fees for “permits,” forcing organizers to pay out huge sums for “insurance policies,” and binding tea party organizers in all sorts of government red tape.

In many instances, organizers are being told that they aren’t “allowed” to hold rallies on government property. Imagine that? We, the taxpayers of the city/state/federal government aren’t “allowed” to gather on property that our own taxes paid for.

And then there are the “permits” required to reserve the day, arrange the police protection, and clean up afterward. Often those “permits” can only be applied for at certain times a year, precluding any spontaneous assembly. Also, these “permits” can be denied with no reason stated quashing at birth any plan to exercise the right of assembly.

Here one might wonder how it is that we so often see those lefties appearing on our TV sets engaging in their many organized protests? Don’t the flotsam and jetsam of the far left seem to have large protests all the time? One might be drawn to imagine that the government is involved in some sort of grand conspiracy to allow those with anti-American sentiment, the moonbats of the left, to march with impunity. But, hold the tinfoil hats, won’t you? Because the wackjobs of anti-war ilk and the shrill, circus acts of the Code Pinkos are expected to cut through the same red tape the tea party organizers have been confronted with. The lefties are just better at it.

Obama volunteers hunt budget support in Birmingham, Alabama grassroots campaign The Birmingham News (hat tip MQK)

Volunteers fanned out across the Birmingham area and Alabama Saturday to pump up enthusiasm for President Barack Obama's budget proposal in much the same way they did to win over voters during the presidential campaign.

About 30 volunteers in Birmingham canvassed shopping areas and other high-traffic locations to talk about the need for health care reform, an education overhaul and environmentally friendly energy development.

"If we don't change these three things in the next 10 to 15 years, America is over as we know it," Chris DeHaven, told the group of volunteers before they went their separate ways.

Obama's plan faces criticism from Republicans and others who say it's too expensive. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office released a report Friday saying Obama's agenda would cause huge budget deficits, forcing the country to borrow $9.3 trillion in the next decade.

Those who gathered at Kelly Ingram Park in downtown Birmingham were urged to enlist others who share Obama's vision and to stay away from trying to convert naysayers.

"We're looking for supporters," said DeHaven of Hoover, one of the event's organizers. "We're not looking for a fight. That will come later, when we have an army."

The volunteers are part of Organizing for America, the same grassroots, national network credited in large part with Obama's quick rise from obscurity to president. Birmingham and 11 other sites statewide were part of a national push this weekend by Organizing for America to trumpet Obama's spending proposal.

Across the metro area, volunteers gave their opinions about why Obama's plan is good for the country's future. Then they asked those willing to sign a pledge of support for the budget. Supporters' e-mail addresses and other contact information were collected, to keep people engaged and to recruit more volunteers.

Leanne Townsend of Hoover also helped organize Saturday's event. She has been a member of the Obama grassroots network since March 2007.

"Our group in Birmingham has been very involved," Townsend said. "We're still very energetic. We all worked so hard during the campaign. We can't just stop."
