See how this has become a reality

Fort Hood massacre suspect Nidal Malik Hasansought

statements they made during psychiatric sessions with him, a captain
who served on the base said Monday.
Other psychiatrists
complained to superiors that Hasan's actions violated doctor-patient
confidentiality, Capt. Shannon Meehan told The Dallas Morning News.
One day after the Nov. 5 attack that killed 13 and wounded 29, a Fort
Hood official said she had never received complaints about Hasan's job
performance. Col. Kimberly Kesling, deputy commander of clinical
services at the base's Darnall Army Medical Center, also said he was a
"hardworking, dedicated young man who gave great care to his patients."
Fort Hood officials did not respond to interview requests
late Monday. They have declined in recent days to say anything about
the major, citing the ongoing investigation.
Meehan said
he learned of Hasan's prosecution requests from another base
psychiatrist. That psychiatrist could not be reached for comment
Monday.

It wasn't clear Monday what information Hasan received from patients
and what became of his requests for prosecution. ABC News, citing
anonymous sources, reported that his superiors rejected the requests,
and that investigators suspect this triggered the shootings.
Lynne Stewart, queen of the pig people, got away with murder and never served. She should have gotten 30 years; instead, she got two and never served (and this is where Obama says Khalid Sheik Muhammad will be brought to justice). Finally, some small measure of justice.

A federal appeals court today ordered a convicted terror-coddling civil
rights lawyer to begin serving her prison sentence.
The 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan upheld Lynne Stewart's
conviction upon announcing its ruling.
Stewart, 69, was convicted in February 2005 of conspiracy and providing and
concealing material support of terrorism for her actions in smuggling messages
from "blind sheik" Omar Abdel-Rahman to his followers in the Islamic terror
group Gama'a al-Islamiyya.
Stewart was sentenced to just two years behind bars.
But the appeals court also ordered her resentenced -- saying the judge must
consider whether she committed perjury at trial.
At the time of her sentencing in October 2006, Stewart faced a maximum
30-year prison term for conspiracy to provide material support to terrorist
organizations, making false statements and defrauding the government.
Stewart’s lawyer Joshua Dratel did not immediately have a comment.
“To say that I am disappointed after 7 1/2 years would be an understatement,”
Stewart wrote in an e-mail to The Associated Press.
She said she had not yet spoken to her lawyer, but that she was planning a
news conference for later today.
A jury found Stewart wrongly issued public statements for Abdel-Rahman, a
mastermind of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, that helped him communicate
with Egyptian-based terrorists.
Following the nine-month trial, Manhattan federal Judge John Koeltl imposed a
drastically reduced sentence based on Stewart's lack of criminal history.
The party of the left, the party of the feminists, the party of "empowering women" has done more to degrade, destroy and diminish the standing of women in the last 20 years then any machismo Jihad could ever imagine. is not the fault of one group of workers. On October 28th, President Obama
signed the largest military budget in U.S. history-$680 billion dollars, which
does not include the cost of the criminal occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan.
The new administration is also continuing to hand out the $9.5 trillion dollars
in working people’s tax dollars to bailout the already rich.
The money to end the suffering of all working people tomorrow is there. It is
our choice as to whether we will allow the right of a few to profit from labor
of workers to continue, or whether we will rise up as one class of
working people to and take political power into our own hands.
We are building a movement that will beat back racism so that working people
of all nationalities can unite and fight against our one, shared enemy:
capitalism. Amnesty, full rights for ALL immigrants, is a demand that should be
raised not just by the immigrant communities, but by every working class
community in our struggle to solve this crisis by our own means.

Hollywood's Barrie Osborne, producer of "The Matrix" and "The Lord of the Rings", is making a $150 million movie on the life of the prophet Mohammed.
It's a remake of the controversial 1976 film "The Message", which led to riots - and two deaths - in the US. To avoid reactions similar to those following the reprinting of the Danish Mohammed cartoons in 2006, the Qatar company backing the project, Alnoor Holdings, has assigned Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi - the spiritual head of the Muslim Brotherhood - as a spiritual advisor.
This is the same cleric who declared that Hitler was a divine punishment against the Jews:
"Allah has imposed upon the Jews, people who would punish them for their corruption. The last punishment was carried out by Hitler [...] he managed to put them in their place. [...] this was divine punishment for them."
The same Islamist who called for jihad against Jews and their "allies":

So this is what it has come to -- this is the fruit of the long-term
efforts by groups such as the Council on American-Islamic Relations and
others, to stigmatize and demonize everyone who speaks honestly about
the threat of jihad and Islamic supremacism. People are afraid to speak
up about what they see, when they know it is wrong.
And all it cost this week was 13 dead and 38 wounded.
The 25-year-old lance corporal was serving with the special forces in
Afghanistan when he is alleged to held a gun to a captive's head, saying,
'answer the questions or you're dead'.
Officers from the Royal Military Police's special investigation branch are
now investigating whether the alleged incident was part of a wider covert policy
of using mental torture techniques to extract information from Taliban
detainees.
The soldier, who cannot be identified for security reasons, is a trained
Pashto interpreter and has served in the Army for eight years. He was said to
have been part of team questioning a 'high value target' when, infuriated by a
lack of response from the prisoner, he drew his pistol and cocked it.
It is claimed the interpreter shoved the suspect's head down on to the table,
pressing the gun into the back of his head as he threatened to kill him,
speaking in Pashto.
The alleged offence took place in a forward operating base in the Helmand
province of Afghanistan in August, after members of the special forces captured
several suspected Taliban gunmen believed to have carrying out improvised
explosive device attacks against British troops.

This insanity will meet an ugly end because all these agencies, sub agencies, regulatory agencies, have got to go.
You don't need to know. You can't know." That's what Kathy Norris, a
60-year-old grandmother of eight, was told when she tried to ask court
officials why, the day before, federal agents had subjected her home to
a furious search.
The agents who spent half a day ransacking Mrs. Norris'
longtime home in Spring, Texas, answered no questions while they
emptied file cabinets, pulled books off shelves, rifled through drawers
and closets, and threw the contents on the floor.
The six agents, wearing SWAT gear and carrying weapons, were with - get this- the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
Kathy and George Norris lived under the specter of a covert
government investigation for almost six months before the government
unsealed a secret indictment and revealed why the Fish and Wildlife
Service had treated their family home as if it were a training base for
suspected terrorists. Orchids.
That's right. Orchids.
By March 2004, federal prosecutors were well on their way to
turning 66-year-old retiree George Norris into an inmate in a federal
penitentiary - based on his home-based business of cultivating,
importing and selling orchids.
Mrs. Norris testified before the House Judiciary subcommittee
on crime this summer. The hearing's topic: the rapid and dangerous
expansion of federal criminal law, an expansion that is often
unprincipled and highly partisan.
Chairman Robert C. Scott, Virginia Democrat, and ranking member
Louie Gohmert, Texas Republican, conducted a truly bipartisan hearing
(a D.C. rarity this year).
These two leaders have begun giving voice to the increasing
number of experts who worry about "overcriminalization." Astronomical
numbers of federal criminal laws lack specifics, can apply to almost
anyone and fail to protect innocents by requiring substantial proof
that an accused person acted with actual criminal intent.
Mr. Norris ended up spending almost two years in prison because
he didn't have the proper paperwork for some of the many orchids he
imported. The orchids were all legal - but Mr. Norris and the overseas
shippers who had packaged the flowers had failed to properly navigate
the many, often irrational, paperwork requirements the U.S. imposed
when it implemented an arcane international treaty's new restrictions
on trade in flowers and other flora.
The judge who sentenced Mr. Norris had some advice for him and
his wife: "Life sometimes presents us with lemons." Their job was, yes,
to "turn lemons into lemonade."
The judge apparently failed to appreciate how difficult it is
to run a successful lemonade stand when you're an elderly diabetic with
coronary complications, arthritis and Parkinson's disease serving time
in a federal penitentiary. If only Mr. Norris had been a Libyan
terrorist, maybe some European official at least would have weighed in
on his behalf to secure a health-based mercy release.
Krister Evertson, another victim of overcriminalization, told
Congress, "What I have experienced in these past years is something
that should scare you and all Americans." He's right. Evertson, a
small-time entrepreneur and inventor, faced two separate federal
prosecutions stemming from his work trying to develop clean-energy fuel
cells.
The feds prosecuted Mr. Evertson the first time for failing to
put a federally mandated sticker on an otherwise lawful UPS package in
which he shipped some of his supplies. A jury acquitted him, so the
feds brought new charges. This time they claimed he technically had
"abandoned" his fuel-cell materials - something he had no intention of
doing - while defending himself against the first charges. Mr.
Evertson, too, spent almost two years in federal prison.
As George Washington University law professor Stephen Saltzburg
testified at the House hearing, cases like these "illustrate about as
well as you can illustrate the overreach of federal criminal law." The
Cato Institute's Timothy Lynch, an expert on overcriminalization,
called for "a clean line between lawful conduct and unlawful conduct."
A person should not be deemed a criminal unless that person "crossed
over that line knowing what he or she was doing." Seems like common
sense, but apparently it isn't to some federal officials.
Did anyone catch Letterman's admission of sexually harassing and having sex with many of his staffers? How rich is that? Who can forget him making jokes about "knocking up" Palin's child? The wolf passing judgment on the lamb. The hatred of the good for being the good.

The president said he is "happy to look at" bills
before Congress that would give struggling news organizations tax breaks if they
were to restructure as nonprofit businesses.
Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.) has introduced S. 673, the
so-called "Newspaper Revitalization Act," that would give outlets tax deals if
they were to restructure as 501(c)(3) corporations. That bill has so far
attracted one cosponsor, Cardin's Maryland colleague Sen. Barbara Mikulski
(D).
White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs had played down the
possibility of government assistance for news organizations, which have been hit
by an economic downturn and dwindling ad revenue.
In early May, Gibbs
said that while he hadn't asked the president specifically about bailout options
for newspapers, "I don't know what, in all honesty, government can do about
it."
Obama said that good journalism is "critical to the health of our
democracy," but expressed concern toward growing tends in reporting --
especially on political blogs, from which a groundswell of support for his
campaign emerged during the presidential election.
"I am concerned that
if the direction of the news is all blogosphere, all opinions, with no serious
fact-checking, no serious attempts to put stories in context, that what you will
end up getting is people shouting at each other across the void but not a lot of
mutual understanding," he said.

afternoon:
The Secret Service and the D.C. police brought
in three dozen vehicles and shut down H Street,
Vermont Avenue, two lanes of I Street and an entrance to the McPherson Square
Metro station. They swept the area, in front of the Department of Veterans
Affairs, with bomb-sniffing dogs and installed
magnetometers in the middle of the street, put up barricades to keep pedestrians
out, and took positions with binoculars atop trucks. Though the produce stand
was only a block or so from the White
House, the first
lady hopped into her armored limousine and pulled into
the market amid the wail of sirens.
Then, and only then, could Obama purchase her
leafy greens. "Now it's time to buy some food," she told several hundred people
who came to watch. "Let's shop!"
Cowbells were rung. Somebody put a lei of
marigolds around Obama's neck. The first
lady picked up a straw
basket and headed for the "Farm at Sunnyside" tent,
where she loaded up with organic Asian
pears, cherry tomatoes, multicolored potatoes, free-range eggs and, yes, two
bunches of Tuscan kale. She left the produce with an aide, who paid the cashier
as Obama made her way back to the limousine.
There's nothing like the simple pleasures of a
farm stand to return us to our agrarian roots.
The first
lady had encouraged Freshfarm Markets, the group that runs
popular farmers markets in Dupont
Circle and elsewhere, to set up near the
White House, and she helped get the approvals to shut
down Vermont Avenue during rush hour on Thursdays. But the result was quite the
opposite of a quaint farmers market. Considering all the logistics, each tomato
she purchased had a carbon footprint of several tons.
The promotion of organic and locally grown food, though an
admirable cause, is a risky one for the Obamas, because there's a fine line
between promoting healthful eating and sounding like a snob.
I think this is an apt metaphor for the 44th
presidency. Not that I mean to insult vegetable gardeners, but it seems to me an
imbalanced lifestyle has been embraced, one devoted to the lifestyle of a
vegetable gardener who possesses vast holdings of land, but is obsessed only

Seven of the 10 living former CIA chiefs Friday urged President Obama to
overrule his attorney general and not reopen investigations into CIA employees
who may have abused detainees during the George W. Bush administration.
The former directors warned that further investigations would demoralize
current CIA officers and might also lead allied intelligence services to suspend
or scale back cooperation with the United States because the judicial probes
could disclose joint operations and activities.
On Aug. 24, Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. appointed a federal
prosecutor, John Durham, to review cases against CIA officers suspected of
exceeding Justice Department guidelines for interrogations of terrorist suspects
following the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. The decision to reopen the cases was
controversial in part because the Justice Department under the Bush
administration had already considered the charges and declined to prosecute the
officers.
In a letter released Friday, the former directors of the CIA, who included
Democratic and Republican appointees, wrote: "If criminal investigations closed
by career prosecutors during one administration can so easily be reopened at the
direction of political appointees in the next, declinations of prosecution will
be rendered meaningless. Those men and women who undertake difficult
intelligence assignments in the aftermath of an attack such as September 11 must
believe there is permanence in the legal rules that govern their actions."
The former CIA directors who signed the letter are: Michael V. Hayden, Porter
J. Goss, George J. Tenet, John Deutch, R. James Woolsey, William H. Webster and
James R. Schlesinger. The only living CIA directors who did not sign the letter
are former President George H.W. Bush, current defense secretary Robert M. Gates
and former President Jimmy Carter's CIA director, Stansfield Turner.
A former government official familiar with the drafting of the letter said
the elder Mr. Bush was not asked to sign the letter because he is a former
president and Mr. Gates was not asked to sign because he is currently serving in
the administration.
In response to the letter, Paul Gimigliano, a CIA spokesman, said the agency
"is cooperating with the official reviews now in progress, in part to see that
they move as expeditiously as possible. The goal is to ensure that current
agency operations - on which the safety of our country depends - center on
protecting the nation."

Jerrold Nadler released a press release in which he charges that the amendment
which defunds ACORN is unconstitutional.
Today, Congressman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), Chair of the
Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties,
denounced a Republican Amendment adopted by the House of Representatives to deny
all federal funds to ACORN as blatantly unconstitutional and a threat to
unpopular organizations everywhere. The Republican initiative, entitled the
Defund ACORN Act, singles out a specific organization by name for exclusion from
participating in any federal program, in direct violation of the Constitution’s
prohibition against Bills of Attainder.
“Today’s Republican Amendment is
in blatant violation of the Constitution’s prohibition against Bills of
Attainder,” said Nadler. “Congress must not be in the business of punishing
individual organizations or people without trial, and that’s what this Amendment
does. Whatever one may think of an organization, the Constitution’s clear ban on
Bills of Attainder is there for the protection of all of our
liberties.”
I think Democrats must be going for a competition on who can insult their
constituents with the most rudeness. The guy is asking Pete a question about
Obamacare and uses the old phrase about, “Don’t pee on my leg and tell me it’s

would show the world there is one true living God," Lorenz said. "We do believe, oh God, Jesus is
preparing the world for his return."
Get it? A praying for Rifqa freak show. I have met those folks. The Lorenzes and the good people of that church and Rifqa's Christian friends have more goodness and integrity than there is in all of hijabed Heagney's writings. Imagine if Heagney wrote this, " The imam lay facedown on the living room floor, placed his hands over his eyes and pleaded with Allah to bring Islamic justice to apostate Rifqa Bary".

This letter which details Senator Edward Kennedy’s offer to help the
Soviet Union defeat Reagan’s efforts to build up the nuclear deterrent
in Europe was unearthed by a Times of London reporter in the 1990s
after the KGB files were opened.
It got little or no attention, however, until the publication of Paul Kengor’s book "The Crusader – Ronald Reagan and the Fall of Communism."
But even then the actual text of the letter (which is in the book’s appendix pp 317-320) has gotten short shrift:

On 9-10 May of this year, Senator Edward
Kennedy’s close friend and trusted confidant J. Tunney was in Moscow.
The senator charged Tunney to convey the following message, through
confidential contacts, to the General Secretary of the Center Committee
of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, Y. Andropov.
Senator Kennedy, like other rational people, is very troubled by the
current state of Soviet-American relations. Events are developing such
that this relationship coupled with the general state of global affairs
will make the situation even more dangerous. The main reason for this
is Reagan’s belligerence, and his firm commitment to deploy new
American middle range nuclear weapons within Western Europe.
According to Kennedy, the current threat is due to the President’s
refusal to engage any modification on his politics. He feels that his
domestic standing has been strengthened because of the well publicized
improvement of the economy: inflation has been greatly reduced,
production levels are increasing as is overall business activity. For
these reasons, interest rates will continue to decline. The White House
has portrayed this in the media as the "success of Reaganomics."
Naturally, not everything in the province of economics has gone
according to Reagan’s plan. A few well known economists and members of
financial circles, particularly from the north-eastern states, foresee
certain hidden tendencies that many bring about a new economic crisis
in the USA. This could bring about the fall of the presidential
campaign of 1984, which would benefit the Democratic party.
Nevertheless, there are no secure assurances this will indeed develop.
The only real threats to Reagan are problems of war and peace and
Soviet-American relations. These issues, according to the senator, will
without a doubt become the most important of the election campaign. The
movement advocating a freeze on nuclear arsenals of both countries
continues to gain strength in the United States. The movement is also
willing to accept preparations, particularly from Kennedy, for its
continued growth. In political and influential circles of the country,
including within Congress, the resistence to growing military
expenditures is gaining strength.
However, according to Kennedy, the opposition to Reagan is still
very weak. Reagan’s adversaries are divided and the presentations they
make are not fully effective. Meanwhile, Reagan has the capabilities to
effectively counter any propaganda. In order to neutralize criticism
that the talks between the USA and the USSR are non-constructive,
Reagan will grandiose, but subjectively propagandistic. At the same
time, Soviet officials who speak about disarmament will be quoted out
of context, silenced or groundlessly and whimsically discounted.
Although arguments and statements by officials of the USSR do appear in
the press, it is important to note the majority of Americans do not
read serious newspapers or periodicals.
Kennedy believes that, given the current state of affairs, and in
the interest of peace, it would be prudent and timely to undertake the
following steps to counter the militaristic politics of Reagan and his
campaign to psychologically burden the American people. In this regard,
he offers the following proposals to the General Secretary of the
Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union Y.V.
Andropov:
1.
Kennedy asks Y.V. Andropov to consider inviting the senator to Moscow
for a personal meeting in July of this year. The main purpose of the
meeting, according to the senator, would be to arm Soviet officials
with explanations regarding problems of nuclear disarmament so they may
be better prepared and more convincing during appearances in the USA.
He would also like to inform you that he has planned a trip through
Western Europe, where he anticipates meeting England’s Prime Minister
Margaret Thatcher and French President Mitterand in which he will
exchange similar ideas regarding the same issues.
If his proposals would be accepted in principle, Kennedy
would send his representative to Moscow to resolve questions regarding
organizing such a visit.
Kennedy thinks the benefits of a meeting with
Y.V.Andropov will be enhanced if he could also invite one of the well
known Republican senators, for example, Mark Hatfield. Such a meeting
will have a strong impact on American and political circles in the USA
(In March of 1982, Hatfield and Kennedy proposed a project to freeze
the nuclear arsenals of the USA and USSR and pblished a book on the
theme as well.)
2. Kennedy believes that in order to influence Americans
it would be important to organize in August-September of this year,
televised interviews with Y.V. Andropov in the USA. A direct appeal by
the General Secretary to the American people will, without a doubt,
attact a great deal of attention and interest in the country. The
senator is convinced this would receive the maximum resonance in so far
as television is the most effective method of mass media and
information.
If the proposal is recognized as
worthy, then Kennedy and his friends will bring about suitable steps to
have representatives of the largest television companies in the USA
contact Y.V. Andropov for an invitation to Moscow for the interview.
Specifically, the president of the board of directors of ABC, Elton
Raul and television columnists Walter Cronkite or Barbara Walters could
visit Moscow. The senator underlined the importance that this
initiative should be seen as coming from the American side.
Furthermore, with the same purpose in mind, a series of televised
interviews in the USA with lower level Soviet officials, particularly
from the military would be organized. They would also have an
opportunity to appeal directly to the American people about the
peaceful intentions of the USSR, with their own arguments about
maintaining a true balance of power between the USSR and the USA in
military term. This issue is quickly being distorted by Reagan’s
administration.
Kennedy asked to convey that this appeal to the General Secretary of
the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union is his
effort to contribute a strong proposal that would root out the threat
of nuclear war, and to improve Soviet-American relations, so that they
define the safety of the world. Kennedy is very impressed with the
activities of Y.V. Andropov and other Soviet leaders, who expressed
their commitment to heal international affairs, and improve mutal
understandings between peoples.
The senator underscored that he eagerly awaits a reply to his
appeal, the answer to which may be delivered through Tunney.
Having conveyed Kennedy’s appeal to the General Secretary of the
Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, Tunney
also explained that Senator Kennedy has in the last few years actively
made appearances to reduce the threat of war. Because he formally
refused to partake in the election campaign of 1984, his speeches would
be taken without prejudice as they are not tied to any campaign
promises. Tunney remarked that the senator wants to run for president
in 1988. At that time, he will be 56 and his personal problems, which
could hinder his standing, will be resolved (Kennedy has just completed
a divorce and plans to remarry in the near future). Taken together,
Kennedy does not discount that during the 1984 campaign, the Democratic
Party may officially turn to him to lead the fight against the
Republicans and elect their candidate president. This would explain why
he is convinced that none of the candidates today have a real chance at
defeating Reagan.

Meanwhile, Ohio child welfare officials have already concluded it's
safe for Rifqa to return. They want to place the girl in therapy and
reunite her with her family.
That, however, may not be the conclusion of Florida officials who
have had to deal with a flood of e-mail and reaction from thousands of
people, many of them including anti-Muslim sentiments, who say the
runaway is a hero.
Gov. Charlie Crist has received more than 9,000 e-mails about the runaway, his office said.

has been investigating whether there are any credible threats to Rifqa,
17, a native of Sri Lanka. Agents will present their findings today,
something that could signal what happens next.
If they conclude no threats exist, Circuit Judge Daniel Dawson
could send the girl back to Columbus, Ohio, where her parents have
agreed to place her in foster care for at least a month.
If agents conclude Rifqa is in danger, the judge could leave her
here in foster care, her status since Aug. 10 when another judge
ordered her temporarily into the care of the Florida Department of
Children and Families.
No matter what FDLE says, Rifqa will fight to stay here until next
August, when she turns 18, said her attorney, John Stemberger, a
conservative Christian activist. He said Rifqa is in a stable home with
a Christian foster family and is happy.

in Columbus, Ohio, said Wednesday that his agency has investigated the
girl's complaints and believe she can safely return home.

Stemberger filed paperwork on Monday, alleging that the mosque
attended by Rifqa's family is home to terrorists and Muslim extremists.

The mosque, Noor Islamic Cultural Center, issued a statement
Wednesday to say those allegations are lies and that hate groups are
using Rifqa's case to attack Muslims.
Rifqa boarded a bus to Orlando and sought refuge with
husband-and-wife pastors Blake and Beverly Lorenz of Global Revolution
Church. She met Beverly Lorenz through a prayer book page on the
Internet social network site Facebook.
Although Rifqa's family was searching for her and had filed a
missing persons report with Columbus police, the Lorenzes kept her for
two weeks without notify [sic] authorities.
Why don't Rene and Amy ask why it took close to two weeks for the Barys to file their missing persons report? No. Rene and Any take dictation.
FDLE will not say whether the Lorenzes are under investigation. It
is a crime in Florida to shelter an unmarried juvenile for more than 24
hours without the consent of her parents or notifying authorities.

Cheney sets the record straight on Obama's witchhunt against great Americans.

Vice President Dick Cheney gave The Weekly Standard a statement Monday
night about the CIA documents and the coming Justice Department
investigation.
The documents released Monday clearly demonstrate that the
individuals subjected to Enhanced Interrogation Techniques provided the
bulk of intelligence we gained about al Qaeda. This intelligence saved
lives and prevented terrorist attacks. These detainees also, according
to the documents, played a role in nearly every capture of al Qaeda
members and associates since 2002.The activities of the CIA in
carrying out the policies of the Bush Administration were directly
responsible for defeating all efforts by al Qaeda to launch further
mass casualty attacks against the United States. The people involved
deserve our gratitude. They do not deserve to be the targets of
political investigations or prosecutions. President Obama’s decision to
allow the Justice Department to investigate and possibly prosecute CIA
personnel, and his decision to remove authority for interrogation from
the CIA to the White House, serves as a reminder, if any were needed,
of why so many Americans have doubts about this Administration’s
ability to be responsible for our nation’s security.

James, an economic historian, says that the young liberal economists
studying under John
Maynard Keynes in the 1930s began to debate whether Hitler
had solved unemployment.
No sane person enjoys mixing nuance and Nazis, but this bit of economic
history has a particular importance this week. In the run-up to the G-20
meeting, European leaders have resisted calls for more government spending. Last
week, the European
Union president, Mirek
Topolanek, echoed a line from AC/DC — whom he had just heard in concert —
and described the Obama administration’s stimulus
plan as “a road to hell.”
It is important to note from the start that the struggle between
liberty and socialism will never end, at least not in our lifetimes. If by
chance it does, it will be because evil has triumphed. As long as people are
free to make their own choices, some of those choices will always be for
self-destruction or slavery (moral masochism). That is just the nature
of human beings. However, once the slavery of socialism is self-imposed through
trickery or stealth, there are no more choices. That is the weakness of a free
people. The weakness of socialism is that it cannot be revealed for what it
truly is until it is too late to stop it. Like all things evil, it cannot stand
the light of day.
The reason I say that the struggle will never end is that no
matter how many times it is beaten back, the socialist left keeps returning. It
is relentless. When their evil intent is revealed, the leftists retreat and
then re-package it in different wrapping paper. Socialized medicine becomes
Hillarycare becomes ObamaCare. Healthcare is a right for everyone, they say.
Who would dare oppose that? Environmentalism becomes global warming becomes climate change. Who could be
against saving the planet? The weakness of a free people is exploited.
The problem for these strategies is that once people have had a
chance to examine the packages, they are discovering that they are Trojan
horses. They do not save the planet nor provide quality healthcare for all
Americans. Their sole purpose is to dramatically expand the power of the
government over its citizens, providing the potential for complete
enslavement.
Americans are finally waking up to this fact, albeit almost too
late. They are angry. They have been misled. Surprising the socialist left
with their ferocity, they are storming into town hall meetings and confronting
their dishonest legislative representatives. Hypocrisy is being exposed. We
have taken the high ground and are on the offensive. Is it time to high-five
each other and celebrate our victory?
Au contraire, mon frère (as George Carlin would say). We are facing
the most ruthless and power-hungry government in American history. They have
the most effective and dedicated propaganda arm the world has ever known, i.e.
the misnomered "mainstream" media. They are changing the face of America
surreptitiously through an unelected and completely uncontrolled group of
leftist radicals (including an avowed Communist) known as "Czars". Congress has been
relegated to the status of "useful idiots". The government commands the
powerful thuggish shadow armies of ACORN and SEIU, with the intent of
forcibly drafting millions of our kids, brainwashing them, and inducting them
into a third shadow army, AmeriCorps.
Do you really believe that the next elections in 2010 and
particularly 2012 will be the solution to the current socialist infestation? Do
you think that people who are as addicted to power as Obama, Emmanuel, and
Axelrod will passively accept their ouster in a fair general election? After
fighting the good fight, will they gracefully withdraw from power?
This administration currently controls the census, which can
initiate creation of additional congressional districts in liberal areas of the
country based on their populations as counted by leftist community organizers. The left dominates
election committees and polling volunteers. If they decide to sabotage voting
machines or vote tabulation software or servers, who will provide the oversight
to prevent them from doing so? They run the largest organized voter fraud
organization in the world (except for perhaps Iran) a.k.a. ACORN. Who knows what "October
surprises" they have planned? Will we see the New Black Panther Party more
actively menacing voters at the polls, since the Obama administration refuses to
prosecute this voter intimidation?
Leftists do not see election fraud or other dirty tactics as
illegal, immoral, or unethical. This is because the socialist agenda is for the
good of the nation, a noble cause to promote and protect at any cost. In other
words, the ends justify the means. In the final analysis, it is difficult to
predict what they are capable of. The rules don't apply to them. We can only
study the actions of other socialist leaders such as Lenin, Stalin, Castro, and
Chavez, and make assumptions.
Not so confident now, are you? In reading the comments sections
of American Thinker and other conservative websites, you can observe that the
anger of the commenters is palpable and rising. People feel trapped and
threatened. The natural temptation to turn to violence must be
resisted.
Violence is the very tactic that the left is prepared for. The
Southern Poverty Law Center released a report several
days ago indicating that right-wing militias and hate groups are on the rise and
threatening insurrection. This is essentially a recycled article that is
trotted out by the SPLC with each new presidential administration, citing many
of the same tired anecdotal examples such as Ruby Ridge and Waco's Branch Davidians as
evidence of growing violence.
The only thing new in the piece is blaming the supposed increase
in extremist activity on alleged racism toward a black president. No evidence
to support this contention was presented, however. Nonetheless, many news
outlets, including Associated Press and CBS News, picked up the story and
sensationalized it. A quote from the article states, "All it's lacking is a
spark". All that is missing in this leftist wishful fantasy is another Timothy
McVeigh. If he doesn't show up on his own, someone may create him. They would
love nothing better than capturing a group of violent "right-wing crazies" on video committing some atrocity.
However it's done, the entire right side of the political
spectrum will be implicated, tarred with the same brush. The goal will be to
shut down all dissent through intimidation, justified by righteously proclaiming
a war on domestic terrorism. Conservative conversation will be squelched as
"hate speech". Talk radio, internet blogs, Fox News commentators, Tea Parties,
and any other conservative outlets of communication or assembly will be forcibly
eliminated under the guise of protecting public safety. The "mainstream" media
will joyfully cooperate in this endeavor, and anyone identified as a
conservative politician will be vilified and transformed into an instant
pariah. Game over, they win.

“Do unto Liberals as they have
done to you”
Greetings fellow South Florida
riders, South Floridians, and Americans, here we are for another
monthly installment of our Wheels on the Road political assessment.
The time just seems to fly between composing these missives, what a
month it has been.
Last month’s Washingtoons piece
was entitled, “The Breaking Point; Summer of Discontent”. Now I
would never consider myself prescient but it does not take a rocket
scientist to realize what has occurred this past month. Americans who
have been disregarded by members of Congress and Senate have had
enough.
They did not want the TARP bill last
October. They did not want the stimulus bill. They did not want the
Cap and Trade bill. They have seen the national debt, deficit, and
unemployment grow. However, in each instance no one listened and all
these pieces of legislation were passed; of course Cap and Trade
awaits Senate approval.
We mentioned last month that the new
target was healthcare and the 1000+ page bill is chock full of
mandates that have nothing to do with improving healthcare for
Americans. The people have read this bill, something that some
members of Congress admit they don’t do……Congressman John
Conyers. Americans are not convinced that this proposed plan will
reform healthcare, rather just promote more government growth,
government control, and tax increases.
As members have come home for their
taxpayer funded summer recess, they have been welcomed home by
constituents who want answers. These townhall forums have become
rather heated, but who can blame the people?
However, what has been the response
from the liberal Democrats and the mainstream media?
Concerned American citizens are
being called Nazi’s, evilmongers, racists, tea bagging rednecks,
and right wing extremists. They have been accused of organized
protest and even had an email set up, flag@whitehouse.gov,
which enables their “fishy behavior” to be reported. And there
have been Americans who received unsolicited emails from David
Axelrod with the White House letterhead to their private email
accounts. Three of my friends have received such.
We are witnessing something really
disturbing in America.
At issue is not the reaction of
concerned American citizens but rather the response from the
Democrats, liberal media, and the DNC. It seems they are resorting to
their normal Saul Alinsky “Rules for Radicals” tactics; Rule #5,
Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon.
They are lowering themselves to
calling American’s a mob and trying to depict concerned American’s
as sore losers. What they fail to realize is that in America we live
in a Republic where we respect the rule of law, not being ruled. We
have a Constitution which affords its citizens rights such as free
speech, freedom of expression, and freedom to petition the
government.
It is amazing to me that when the
opposition to President Obama’s questionable policies expresses
their dissent they are demeaned. When I flip over to CNN and MSNBC,
not often but to understand what the opposition thinks, I find that
they don’t think. They only seek to create a racial confrontation
by fomenting the belief that white American’s refuse to accept a
black POTUS.
What the liberal socialists had best
recognize is that their venom is no longer effective, we are
anesthetized to their bite. Seems we found anti-venom and we all have
been injected to produce anti-bodies. We are not going to back down.
As well, the DNCs running of
insidious advertisements and the White House created “Great
American Snitch” program only indicate desperation.
One must find it comical that the
same folks who brought you the professional community organizer
President are attacking citizens organizing. We have seen anti-war
protests by Code Pink, PETA tossing blood on individuals, left wing
enviro-terrorist groups attacking SUV dealerships, ACORN and SEIU
protests, and even voter intimidation at polling stations (New Black
Panther Party, Philadelphia). Yet, concerned American citizens are
called extremists?
President George W Bush was
constantly attacked from his inauguration in Jan 2001 to the day he
departed office Jan 20, 2009. Dare you speak of the anointed one? You
are a racist.
Left wing blogs attacked Governor
Sarah Palin and made allegations that her young Son Trig is not hers.
But when the opposition questions the birth certificate authenticity
of President Obama they are referred to in derision as “birthers”.
Left wing news media attacked former
First Lady Laura Bush reference a traffic accident when she was a
teenager. No one is questioning the law license inactive status of
First Lady Michele Obama. And what is up with (22) staffers for the
First Lady Michele?
The Bush twins were regularly part
of media attacks, dare no one speak of the Obama daughters who attend
wonderful Sidwell Friends School. This is an exclusive school where
it is not possible for other children in DC, who are just a little
less fortunate but qualified, to attend thanks to their Dad’s
decision.
What is happening is that some of us
read the book “Rules for Radicals” and we are turning the table
on the liberals. Here are some examples;
Rule 1: “Power is not only what
you have but what the enemy thinks you have”
Rule 3: “Wherever possible go
outside of the experience of the enemy. Here you want to cause
confusion, fear, and retreat”
Rule 4: “Make the enemy live up to
their own book of rules. You can kill them with this……”
Rule 8: “Keep the pressure on,
with different tactics and actions……”
Rule 9: “The threat is usually
more terrifying than the thing itself”
Rule 11: “If you push a negative
hard enough and deep enough it will break through into its
counterside”
Rule 13: “Pick the target, freeze
it, personalize it, and polarize it”
It seems to me that the liberals are
great at dishing it out but intolerant of taking a punch.
As for me, well, I am above the name
calling. I would never say President Barack Hussein Obama is a thin
skinned, inept, malignant narcissist. It is beneath me to call Senate
Majority Leader Harry Reid a weak spineless wimp. It is
unconscionable to refer to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi as a
maniacal pathological liar.
However, my opponent Congressman Ron
Klein, well, does remind me of the Cowardly Lion from Wizard of
Oz….before the Wizard gave him courage.
As a 22 year US Army combat Veteran
I can smell fear, and the left wing liberals are showing it.
My admonition, be like a shark which
senses blood in the water and attack. The left truly felt that since
they won, we would lie down and not fight back against their
dangerous agenda, wrong!
I will say what may not be
politically correct but the future and legacy of our Country is at
stake. Get out there and live by the new Golden Rule, “Do Unto
Liberals as they Have Done to You”….and watch them crack.

In a violent breech of American's right to free speech, law enforcement seek to impose criminal penalties on free expression. In my article at The American Thinker, "Now Being American Is Un-American", I quoted Rand, "The principle of free
speech is not concerned with the content of a man's speech and does not
protect only the expression of good ideas, but all ideas. If it were
otherwise, who would determine which ideas are good and where
forbidden? The government?"

CLERMONT - Clermont police have interviewed one suspect who is admitting to
putting up the dozens of posters pasted around the city depicting President
Obama as the Joker character from the Batman film

, city officials confirmed.
Assistant City Manager
Darren Gray said city officials have an individual "admitting to putting up 500"
of the posters.
Clermont Police Capt. Eric Jensen said the male
individual has admitted to putting up some signs, but investigators suspect
others were involved and their investigation is continuing.
"We have
talked to an individual," Jensen said. "He only admitted to some of it...We're
still tracking down leads and talking to folks. We have not arrested
anybody."
At this point officials are not sure how much damage was caused
by the signs or the dollar amount associated with the clean-up.
Dozens of
the posters were pasted around the city earlier this week. A pair of the posters
were pasted to a Clermont Post Office collection box. They prompted the
postmaster to contact the Postal Inspector's office, which is looking at
potential federal crimes for defacing federal property.
City officials,
meanwhile, are trying to determine what local crimes might be associated with
the posting of the images on public and private properties. They've also been
busy ripping down the sticky signs because they're a violation of city ordinance
regarding illegal signs.
Patriots, be on notice. This is the favorite tactic of the left. Any
criticism of Obama, no matter what or how legit, will be labeled
racism. Tea party? Racist! Opposition to socialism? Racist! Opposition
to nationalized healthcare? Racist! Opposition to cap and tax? Racist!
Opposition to the ethnic cleansing of Jewish people in Israel? Racist!
This tactic used to be effective. One case study is the 2006
Virginia Senate race, and the destruction of George Allen’s re-election
campaign by the “macaca” incident. A presidential contender was
destroyed by a leftopathic lie, despite the fact that the charge of
racism was utter nonsense. Meanwhile, Joe Biden’s insult to Indian
people went unremarked and unnoticed in the mainstream media.
The media has also ignored the real significance of the Obama
Joker poster. It isn’t racism; it’s a sign of America’s rude awakening.
The editor of the American Thinker, Thomas Lifson, observed that the
poster showed that the inevitable backlash against Obama’s far-left
policies has begun: “It is starting. Open mockery of Barack Obama, as
disillusionment sets in with the man, his policies, and the phony image
of a race-healing, brilliant, scholarly middle-of-the-roader.” But
Lifson noted that “the President’s supporters have condemned the image,
calling it ‘mean-spirited and dangerous.’ ”
Mean-spirited? Dangerous? Racist?
For years I covered the left’s spiteful and malicious attacks on
President George W. Bush. He was likened to Hitler. “Bushitler” was so
commonly used, it became a cliché. Leftists compared the jihadi attack
on the twin towers to the Reichstag fire. And other motifs came into
play as well: Vanity Fair even published an image of Bush as . . . The
Joker. No one said a peep. Not a word. Instead, we were told that
“dissent is the highest form of patriotism.”
And indeed it can be, at least unless you cross our Dear Leader
Barack Obama. After eight years of relentless Bush bashing and America
hating, The New York Times’s opinion makers are warning about the
dangers of dissent. Bob Herbert recently warned about “right-wing
hate-mongers” and “gun crazies.” Frank Rich sounded the alarm about
“far-right rage.” Paul Krugman worried over “the rise of right-wing
extremism.” Charles M. Blow came out more or less openly for a police
state: “Society needs to do a much better job of creating an
environment where hateful beliefs are never ignored and suspicious
behavior never goes unreported.” What kind of “hateful beliefs”?
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made it clear who these people have
in mind when she lied outright about anti-Obama protesters, claiming
that they’re “carrying swastikas and symbols like that to a town
meeting on healthcare.”
LIE! This has never happened at any of our rallies and protests.
The left employed the swastika for years against Bush; the right has
never engaged in this. Pelosi is spreading more lies and smears of
good, decent folks. At the leftist rallies, the hatred against Bush was
pushed and promoted relentlessly. The rallies that were organized by
the far left infrastructure for years never hesitated to orchestrate
the most vicious attacks on Bush. But when one poster mocking Obama
appears in Los Angeles — a poster that was not orchestrated, not part
of any moveon.org strategy — and it’s the shot heard round the world.
What happened to “dissent is the highest form of patriotism”?

to address his detractors and the mass media smear campaign. That was

and Pelosi seem to want that power. The Democrats' desire to silence

Orwellian stuff. It's coming, folks, sooner rather than later.
Great news -- yet another major company has acted in response to our
campaign calling on Glenn Beck's advertisers to stop supporting his show.
GEICO told us that they will no longer run ads during Beck's show.
This comes on the heels of news last week that four other advertisers -- Lawyers.com,
Progressive Insurance, Procter & Gamble, and SC Johnson -- also distanced
themselves from Beck. None of this would have been possible without the
thousands of people -- more than 75,000, now -- who have taken action and signed
our petition to
Glenn Beck's advertisers.

Yesterday I watched the Glenn Beck show and he got choked up about his disabled daughter. At the end of the show he said that the liberal blogs were already writing about him crying.
So I decided to see what they were saying and went over to Huffington Post. Seems they've been harassing Glenn Beck's advertisers and have gotten a number of them to pull advertising. This really pisses me off. Seriously thinking Geico is going to lose my business after 20+ years.

If it wasn't for you and Glenn Beck I doubt I would ever have known about a lot of stuff that's happening. I check out most of the stuff I read so know it isn't complete crap. It isn't all just "crazy talk." I've been wondering for a while why this stuff doesn't scare the hell out of everyone. I used to think liberals could have their opinion but now am thinking they are deranged and evil.
I guess they decided to destroy Glenn Beck after he said Obama is a racist. He's only speaking the truth. Before the election I had never heard of Obama, so before I voted I went online to do some research. It took me only a few hours to make the decision that I could NEVER vote for him. The deciding factor (among many) was the fact that he sat and listened to Rev. Wright for years. Only someone who is prejudiced would EVER sit and listen to that venom for more than a minute.
Seeing how most blacks vote Democrat, one would think CNN may have been just
a tad suspicious of this before coming to the White House-Nancy Pelosi-talking point conclusion.
A couple that were at Dingals TH meeting said there was a black
man outside with a sign comparing Obama the Adolf Hitler. After the
meeting ended and when everyone was leaving this same man was handing out Dingal
campaign flyers.

Now we have Georgia Democrat David Scott, who screamed at concerned constituents at a recent town
hall meeting, swastika-ed. Too convenient. He thinks the vandalism at his district office in Smyrna reflects
increasing "racial hatred" in the battle over health care reform.

plans noting that "[a]fter years of struggling to catch up to the
Republican Party's sophisticated microtargeting efforts, the Democratic
National Committee appears to have come close to parity." The DNC has
made significant investments in its voter file, infrastructure, and
microtargeting efforts and now has a national voter file with
comprehensive data on voters around the country that will be an

When he called me and told me what he was working on, I fell off the
chair. This is story is outrageous, but typical of the left.
I am sure Alaskans would be thrilled about the standards
their schools use in employing kindergartner assistants. But I do not
believe Griffin's statement to be accurate, or even true. We shall see.
Most likely, it is but one more lie upon the many he seems
to have used in his vicious, uncalled for attacks on Sarah Palin and
her family, as well.
Should we really be surprised? Most disgusting is

any morals at all. It seems that as long you appear to be benefiting

Last year, lawmakers excoriated the CEOs of the Big Three automakers for
traveling to Washington, D.C., by private jet to attend a hearing about a
possible bailout of their companies.
But apparently Congress is not philosophically averse to private air travel:
At the end of July, the House approved nearly $200 million for the Air Force to
buy three elite Gulfstream jets for ferrying top government officials and
Members of Congress.
The Air Force had asked for one Gulfstream 550 jet (price tag: about $65
million) as part of an ongoing upgrade of its passenger air service.
But the House Appropriations Committee, at its own initiative, added to the
2010 Defense appropriations bill another $132 million for two more airplanes and
specified that they be assigned to the D.C.-area units that carry Members of
Congress, military brass and top government officials.
Because the Appropriations Committee viewed the additional aircraft as an
expansion of an existing Defense Department program, it did not treat the money
for two more planes as an earmark, and the legislation does not disclose which
Member had requested the additional money.

Rep. Sanford Bishop (D-Ga.) had submitted a request to the Appropriations
Committee for a $70 million earmark for one airplane on behalf of Georgia-based
Gulfstream, and Rep. Jack Kingston (R-Ga.) lists the airplane as one of the
earmarks that he was asked to request, though his office said he never made the
request to the Appropriations Committee.
“The committee saw fit to fund it at that level” without Kingston’s
involvement, his spokesman said.
Bishop’s office did not return several calls requesting comment for this
story.

According to Wired.com, following up a Sunday
Express report, the British government plans to install and monitor CCTV
cameras in 20,000 British homes. The government will spend 400 million pounds
(the equivalent of $688 million) on the project.
The purpose? To monitor families, ensuring that the kids are doing their
homework, going to bed early, and eating right. Moreover, according to the same
report, the government will maintain a private army to be “sent round to carry
out home checks.” Kids and parents will be forced to sign “behavior contracts”
which will “set out parents’ duties to ensure children behave and do their
homework.”
Ed Balls, long-time adviser to British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and
Britain’s Secretary of State for Children, Schools, and Families, is behind the
effort, which is to target antisocial families. His idea is that if children
have more stable home lives, they will be less likely to get involved with drugs
or become criminals.
There are already some 2,000 family homes with CCTV cameras monitoring the
comings, goings, and daily doings of their inhabitants.
George Orwell's 1984 featured telescreens that operated as windows
into the homes of the subjects of the totalitarian government. Privacy had

spanning from control of personal finances to end of life care. These
rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through
casual conversation. Since we can’t keep track of all of them here
at the White House, we’re asking for your help. If you get an email or
see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it
to flag@whitehouse.gov.
Emphasis added. Of course, as we’ve seen in the health care debate to date,
the term “disinformation” is used by the Obama White House as a catchall to
describe any opposition to the President’s push for single-payer, government-run
health care — meaning the White House wants to be informed of any forwarded

as opposition to their health care overhaul plan.
The White House has, as yet, offered no explanation of what it is they plan
to do with the tips on policy opposition they hope to receive from citizen
informers.

Opposition to nationalized healthcare? Racist! Opposition to cap and tax? Racist! Opposition to ethnic cleansing of Jewish people in Israel? Racist!

Fredric U. Dicker—regarded as the pre-eminent political reporter in New York’s state capital—recently published a column decrying the complete breakdown of the state legislature, which has been unable to conduct business for the past month.
Buried way down in Dicker’s piece, starting at the 19th paragraph, we learn:
During the first five months of this year, with the Senate under the control of its first African-American majority leader, [State Senator Malcolm] Smith, top Democrats bemoaned the lack of minority Senate staffers.
But instead of trying to recruit new hires, they fired nearly 200 almost exclusively white workers and replaced them with a large number of minority employees, many of whom were seen by their fellow workers to be unskilled at their new jobs.
The move produced severe racial tensions, made worse by the fact that, as a high-level Democratic staffer confided, “We’ve been told to only hire minorities.'’
So nearly 200 people lose their jobs in New York State because of their race? And not at the hands of some evil corporation, but our own elected officials?
It’s quite telling that, in our political age, mass firings can still happen because of one’s race. It’s even more telling that—the only time I’ve seen this story get any coverage at all—it was in the 19th paragraph of an otherwise unrelated column.
Breaking: TVNewser has learned the CBS Evening News has once again set an all-time low last week with 4.89 million Total Viewers and 1.42 million A25-54 viewers. But it was also the lowest (since records began in the 1991-'92 season) for ABC's World News with Charles Gibson. The Gibson program drew 6.42 million Total Viewers and 1.77 million A25-54 viewers.

ABC has made the unprecedented move of giving prime-time programing air
time to President Barack Obama for a health care reform special to be
aired next week. Perhaps it is not too surprising that Obama has landed
himself some prime viewing time on ABC. After all, former ABC News
correspondent Linda Douglass is now the Director of Communications for
the Obama White House Office of Health Reform. Coincidence? One would
be excused to suspect it.
ABC’s biased “Prescription for America” will be giving Obama a free
platform to promote his health care reform plan. However, no opposing
viewpoints will be presented, as the station is not featuring any
Republicans on the program to balance the president’s proposals. ABC’s
Charlie Gibson and Diane Sawyer are to ‘moderate’ the nationally
televised infomercial. In an interesting ‘coincidence’, former ABC News
correspondent Linda Douglass
is now the Director of Communications for the Obama White House Office
of Health Reform. The mainstream media is working hard for the Democrats America.
Even more disturbing is that ABC will not allow any advertisements
that offer a differing point of view. Rick Scott, chairman of
Conservatives for Patients Rights, submitted an ad to ABC that offers a
free-market alternative to President Obama’s $1 trillion plus health
care reform plan, but the ad was rejected. A spokesperson for ABC said
the ad was rejected because the network does not accept “advocacy
advertising.” This is absurd, as ABC is itself advocating state-run health care.

Last September Sen. Barack Obama promised
that under his health-care proposal “you’ll be able to get the same
kind of coverage that members of Congress give themselves.” On Monday,
President Obama repeated that promise in a speech to the American
Medical Association. It’s not true.
The president is barnstorming the nation, urging
swift approval of legislation that is taking shape in Congress. This
legislation — the Affordable Health Choices Act that’s being drafted by
Sen. Edward Kennedy’s staff and the Health, Education, Labor and
Pensions Committee — will push Americans into stingy insurance plans
with tight, HMO-style controls. It specifically exempts members of
Congress (along with federal employees; the exemptions are in section
3116).
Members of Congress “enjoy the widest selection of
health plans in the country,” according to the U.S. Office of Personnel
Management. They “can choose from among consumer-driven and high
deductible plans that offer catastrophic risk protection with higher
deductibles, health saving/reimbursable accounts and lower premiums, or
fee-for-service (FFS) plans, and their preferred provider organizations
(PPO), or health maintenance organizations (HMO).” These choices would
be nice for all of us, but they’re not in the offing. Instead, if you
don’t enroll in a “qualified” health plan and submit proof of
enrollment to the federal government, you’ll be tracked down and fined
(sections 3101 and 6055).
For a health plan to count as “qualified,” it has to
meet all the restrictions listed in the legislation and whatever
criteria the Secretary of Health and Human Services imposes after the
bill becomes law. You may think you’re in a “qualified” plan, but the
language suggests that only plans with managed-care controls such as
the “medical home” will meet the definition (sections 3101 and 2707).
“Medical home” is this decade’s version of HMO-style
insurance, according to the Congressional Budget Office, with a
primary-care provider to manage your access to costly services such as
visits to specialists and diagnostic tests. Medical home providers in
“qualified” plans, states the Kennedy bill, will have a “payment
structure” based on “incentives” rather than payments for each doctor
visit or procedure (section 3101).
These requirements are reminiscent of the unpopular
controls HMOs imposed two decades ago that caused public outrage and
led to state laws reining in abuses. In December 2008, a Congressional
Budget Office report evaluating early drafts of major federal health
insurance proposals noted that “medical homes” were likely to resemble
the HMO gatekeepers of 20 years ago if cost control is a priority.

In a nutshell we all lose our plans unless we are
federal employees or members of Congress, so it must really be bad. In
fixing healthcare, are the only answers bad?
