Anti-Sharia Bills are the real "Violence Against Women Act"

Once again the Dems take their anti-freedom, anti-America agenda and package it as something entirely different. This week's steaming pile of dung in a pretty blue box is the Violence Against Women Act.

Yes, of course we are against violence against women -- or are we? Where is the vocal support for anti-sharia bills? Sharia is the most brutal and misogynist system of governance. Where are the bills against honor violence, honor killing, FGM? Mara over at GP has this: (thanks to Helen G)

Conservative radio host and author Mark Levin called out “Little Weasel” Eric Cantor for his support of the flawed Violence Against Women Act that contains egregious anomalies. The bill’s language is so vague that if anyone is accused of violence under this law… then they would not have a right to a fire arm. Thus this is an under the radar means of confiscating guns. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor wants the bill passed.

These are not baby steps to totalitarianism. These are leaps. America, increasingly, is unrecognizable. The more liberal a city, town or state, the more in danger to our basic fundamental freedoms.

One of the major gun-control efforts in Olympia this session calls for the sheriff to inspect the homes of assault-weapon owners. The bill’s backers say that was a mistake.

Forget police drones flying over your house. How about police coming inside, once a year, to have a look around?

As Orwellian as that sounds, it isn’t hypothetical. The notion of police home inspections was introduced in a bill last week in Olympia.

That it’s part of one of the major gun-control efforts pains me. It seemed in recent weeks lawmakers might be headed toward some common-sense regulation of gun sales. But then last week they went too far. By mistake, they claim. But still too far.

“They always say, we’ll never go house to house to take your guns away. But then you see this, and you have to wonder.”

That’s no gun-rights absolutist talking, but Lance Palmer, a Seattle trial lawyer and self-described liberal who brought the troubling Senate Bill 5737 to my attention. It’s the long-awaited assault-weapons ban, introduced last week by three Seattle Democrats.

Responding to the Newtown school massacre, the bill would ban the sale of semi-automatic weapons that use detachable ammunition magazines. Clips that contain more than 10 rounds would be illegal.

But then, with respect to the thousands of weapons like that already owned by Washington residents, the bill says this:

“In order to continue to possess an assault weapon that was legally possessed on the effective date of this section, the person possessing shall ... safely and securely store the assault weapon. The sheriff of the county may, no more than once per year, conduct an inspection to ensure compliance with this subsection.”

In other words, come into homes without a warrant to poke around. Failure to comply could get you up to a year in jail.

“I’m a liberal Democrat — I’ve voted for only one Republican in my life,” Palmer told me. “But now I understand why my right-wing opponents worry about having to fight a government takeover.”

He added: “It’s exactly this sort of thing that drives people into the arms of the NRA.”

I have been blasting the NRA for its paranoia in the gun-control debate. But Palmer is right — you can’t fully blame them, when cops going door-to-door shows up in legislation.

I spoke to two of the sponsors. One, Sen. Adam Kline, D-Seattle, a lawyer who typically is hyper-attuned to civil-liberties issues, said he did not know the bill authorized police searches because he had not read it closely before signing on.

“I made a mistake,” Kline said. “I frankly should have vetted this more closely.”

That lawmakers sponsor bills they haven’t read is common. Still, it’s disappointing on one of this political magnitude. Not counting a long table, it’s only an eight-page bill.

The prime sponsor, Sen. Ed Murray, D-Seattle, also condemned the search provision in his own bill, after I asked him about it. He said Palmer is right that it’s probably unconstitutional.

“I have to admit that shouldn’t be in there,” Murray said.

He said he came to realize that an assault-weapons ban has little chance of passing this year anyway. So he put in this bill more as “a general statement, as a guiding light of where we need to go.” Without sweating all the details.

Obama goes on jihad against Americans with guns but arms jihadists across the world

Obama is on a jihad against guns and is disarming Americans. It's all he is on, exploiting the murder of Newtown. Ghastly. Tonight he did another anti-gun horse and pony show here. Another photo opportunity to exploit with children in the spirit of Mao, Hitler, Lenin etc.

Meanwhile, he arms jihadists and murderers in Egypt with F16s, tanks and $1.5 billion for armaments. He arms jihadists in Libya -- arms that were used in the slaughter of Americans in Benghazi and arms that were used to slaughter 81 infidels: Americans, British, French, Japanese, Norwegian and other infidel hostages in Algeria.

It's not guns in America that are the problem, Mr. President. It's mental illness and the glorification of violence in American society. Obama's huge base of support in Hollywood traffics in the depraved infatuation with mindless violence, but restricting that doesn't gibe with the socialist agenda.

Pamela Hall snapped these as she was walking through midtown Manhattan and found another stunning and sick example of our hypocritical love affair with violence and murder. This obscene "restaurant" at 42nd and 8th Ave. romanticizes and glamorizes gore and murder.

No protests from the Obama Camp, or SEI, whose 1199 office is right around the corner.  What's to protest? Innocent fun, right?

Existing weapons would be grandfathered in, but their ownership could not be transferred.

A statewide registry of these guns would be created, and the county-by-county process for issuing handgun permits would also be standardized and centralized. In a change to the state's Freedom of Information Law, permit applicants would be able to request their name and address not be released — a point that arose after the Journal News in Westchester County last month published a list of the names and addresses of pistol permit holders.

The maximum capacity of an ammunition magazine would be reduced from 10 rounds to seven, and a current exemption for clips manufactured before 1994 will end.

Private sales of firearms, which now proceed unfettered, would require a background check through a licensed dealer, putting those transactions in line with current purchasing requirements for rifles and shotguns.

At the urging of Republicans in the Senate, the bill also stiffens penalties for people who use guns criminally. It would also include an expansion of mental health providers' ability to commit those found to be a danger to the public — another GOP priority — under what's known as Kendra's Law.

But the content of the legislation is taking a back seat to the imaginary need to get it passed as quickly as possible.  The state Senate passed the measure without any debate on the bill, and Governor Cuomo has dispensed with the three-day public review law in an attempt to avoid public debate on the topic.

Sadly Huston is correct, not only has the bill been forced upon New Yorkers with not so much as a discussion, but a dozen Republicans in the Senate went along with it.

Despite Republicans willingness to bow to the governor on this legislation, and emotionally respond to a topic that requires level-headed thinking, criticism of these tactics has been strong.  New York Post editor Fred Dicker, a normally reliable ally and current biographer for the governor, ripped these latest measures.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo's new gun-control package is drawing sharp criticism from one of his most reliable allies: The New York Post editor and Albany radio host Fred Dicker, who calls it "a Trojan Horse" effort to "regulating every single gun" in New York.

As Capital New York's Azi Paybarah reports, Dicker is usually Cuomo's "closest and most influential ally in the media... a consistent booster of Cuomo and... a useful clearing house for Cuomo's proposals, personnel decisions and political threats, which often appear first in Dicker's column as lightly attributed offerings of sources close to the governor. (He's also writing a book about Cuomo, with the full cooperation of the governor's staff.)

But on today's radio show, Dicker described the package as being "all in secret, typical Albany, behind closed doors," and accused Cuomo of using the tragedy to push his gun agenda, perhaps in order to win national attention.

"This is a Trojan Horse. This is not about semi-automatic rifles. This is a sweeping set of gun laws the governor is using," he said. "The governor is using the tragedy... as a justification for sweeping changes in gun laws including regulating every single gun millions of New Yorkers now own... It's another reason people are going to be leaving New York."

This is priceless.  Governor Cuomo is bragging about a provision in his new gun law that would make the murder of a first responder punishable by life in prison.

He based this provision on a case in Webster, NY.  Problem being, that particular gunman killed himself, meaning the Webster provision would never have prevented, or even been applied in that case.

NY State politicians are rushing to tyrannical rule with this crippling gun control legislation. Every genocide of the twentieth century was preceded by major gun-control legislation that facilitated the confiscation of weapons from the targeted victims. The most important thing we can do to prevent future genocides, say the authors, is to eliminate gun-control laws from the arsenal of government weapons against the rights of the people.

Where is the outcry .....dead men walking. Why the rush? If the female principal at Newtown who lunged at the gunman had had a weapon, things would have ended differently.

Outlawing guns will not deter criminals who will not hesitate to obtain illegal guns. It will just render the populace more defenseless.

Ignored is the fact that the shooter in Connecticut was stopped by a person using a legal firearm.

The problem is not guns. The problem is our societal glorification of violence and death. We need to recover love of life and respect for human beings in the society, and teach such things in schools. Our societal nihilism is what leads to these attacks.

If the left hadn't abolished mental health institutions (they were "cruel") and forced the mentally ill to live in the streets or at home, things would have ended differently. Some time in the late 20th century the left gave psychiatric hospitals a very bad name; institutionalizing someone became "the bogeyman." These hospitals were closed, and we basically tossed our mentally ill onto the street. We medicated them and then threw them to the wolves. Now we’re raising a generation of mentally ill children, with limited mental health resources and a system whose hands are tied until AFTER the tragedy happens.

Instead, our elected officials who are incapable of getting anything done are exploiting the death of children to push through uber left anti-second amendment legislation. Loud Talker said:

The immediate reaction in social media was to blame guns, to instantly politicize this, to post death threats to NRA members, to call for stricter gun laws and to exploit this tragedy for political gain. Many people are ignoring the mental health aspect. And even more are ignoring how to better prepare our society for this in the future.

If anti-gun logic were to hold true, in a list of state rankings for firearms murders you would expect to see the weakest states at the top, and you would certainly not expect to see the toughest states anywhere in the rankings, right?

There are no gun control laws that could have prevented the massacre in Newtown. The late Mrs. Lanza may have made a horrible mistake if she did not have her guns properly locked away. But we don’t know this, and given that her son lived with her he may have known how to unlock and gain access to them. But even if he couldn’t get to them he could easily have acquired weapons elsewhere, or could have taken a different approach to carry out his plan, such as explosives, fire, poison, etc.

New Yorkers thus far, have only had a minor defense of their Constitutional freedoms on display during the process. Only two Republicans took to the floor of the Senate to speak on the bill.  Greg Ball said the measure should have contained a greater overhaul of the state's mental health systems, and indicated the final product would be nothing more than a burden on law-abiding gun owners.

Ball added, "We haven’t saved any lives tonight, except for one: the political life of a governor who wants to be president.  I voted no, and I only wish I could have done it twice.”

Ball is right - the perceived urgency of the legislation is completely non-existent.  In reality, the Governor was simply hoping to beat vice-President Joe Biden to the punch when it comes to meaningful action on gun control, second amendment freedoms be damned.  And Cuomo is about to score a significant political victory.  President Obama is expected to announce the recommendations of Biden's gun commission later this week.

Meanwhile, the other Republican to speak on the bill was Kathy Marchione, who is now hosting a petition on her web site in an attempt to show "strong public support for preserving our Constitutional freedoms".

Sadly, there are few politicians left who have taken an interest in defending our Constitutional freedoms.

Prisoners use newspaper's gun owner map to threaten guards, sheriff says

Law enforcement officials from a New York region where a local paper published a map identifying gun owners say prisoners are using the information to intimidate guards.

Rockland County Sheriff Louis Falco, who spoke at a news conference flanked by other county officials, said the Journal News' decision to post an online map of names and addresses of handgun owners Dec. 23 has put law enforcement officers in danger.

"They have inmates coming up to them and telling them exactly where they live. That's not acceptable to me," Falco said, according to Newsday.

Robert Riley, an officer with the White Plains Police Department and president of its Patrolman’s Benevolent Association, agreed.

"You have guys who work in New York City who live up here. Now their names and addresses are out there, too," he said adding that there are 8,000 active and retired NYPD officers currently living in Rockland County.

Local lawmakers also say that they intend to introduce legislation that prevents information about legal gun owners from being released to the public.

The newspaper published the online map last month alongside an article titled, "The gun owner next door: What you don't know about the weapons in your neighborhood." The map included the names and addresses of pistol permit holders in Westchester and Rockland counties obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request.

While the paper ostensibly sought to make a point about gun proliferation in the wake of the school shooting in Newtown, Conn., the effort may have backfired. A blogger reacted with a map showing where key editorial staffers live, and some outraged groups have called for a boycott of parent company Gannett’s national advertisers. Ironically, the newspaper has now stationed armed guards outside at least one of its offices.

New York newspaper to violate privacy rights of even more gun permit holders after uproar

Aren't private citizens entitled to a right of privacy? This is the ugliness of a savage nation, the elimination of the private life.

I strongly recommend that EVERY CITIZEN in this beleaguered community BUY A GUN. And I wouldn't be surprised if there weren't a run on guns in that neighborhood.

I applaud the blogger who published the names and addresses of newspaper staff after the publication of the gun-permit database. Get a taste. Did this paper print the name and addressses of sex offenders, pedeophiles, etc., in the area? No, just law-abiding ciitizens.

(Reuters) – A suburban New York newspaper that sparked an uproar among gun enthusiasts by publishing names and addresses of residents holding pistol permits is now planning to publish even more identities of permit-toting locals.

Further names and addresses will be added as they become available to a map originally published on December 24 in the White Plains, New York-based Journal News, the newspaper said.

The original map listed thousands of pistol permit holders in suburban Westchester and Rockland counties just north of New York City.

Along with an article entitled “The gun owner next door: What you don’t know about the weapons in your neighborhood,” the map was compiled in response to the December 14 shooting deaths of 26 children and adults in Newtown, Connecticut, editors of the Gannett Corp.-owned newspaper said.

The next batch of names will be permit holders in suburban Putnam County, New York, where the county clerk told the newspaper it is still compiling information.

Some 44,000 people are licensed to own pistols in the three counties, the newspaper said. Owners of rifles and shotguns do not need permits, the newspaper said.

The publication prompted outrage, particularly on social media sites, among gun owners.

“Do you fools realize that you also made a map for criminals to use to find homes to rob that have no guns in them to protect themselves?” Rob Seubert of Silver Spring, Maryland, posted on the newspaper’s web site. “What a bunch of liberal boobs you all are.”

Republican state Senator Greg Ball of Patterson, New York, said he planned to introduce legislation to keep permit information private except to prosecutors and police.

A similar bill that he introduced earlier as an Assemblyman failed in the state Assembly.

“The asinine editors at the Journal News have once again gone out of their way to place a virtual scarlet letter on law abiding firearm owners throughout the region,” Ball wrote on his Senate web site.

The newspaper’s editor and vice president of news, CynDee Royle, earlier in the week defended the decision to list the permit holders.

“We knew publication of the database would be controversial, but we felt sharing as much information as we could about gun ownership in our area was important in the aftermath of the Newtown shootings,” she said.

Some critics retaliated by posting reporters’ and editors’ addresses and other personal information online.

Obama’s selective sympathy concerning the Newtown massacre is political exploitation at its most cynical and debased. Where were Obama’s concern, his empathy and his calls for a thorough investigation of the Fort Hood and Benghazi massacres?

Obama’s knee-jerk opportunism, trying to exploit the horrible deaths of these children to pursue his political ends (harmful gun-control legislation), is in sharp contrast to his response to the Fort Hood mass murder. When Maj. Nidal Hasan murdered 13 Americans in the name of jihad, Obama attempted to silence concerns about jihad, declaring that no one should “rush to judgment” – despite the fact that Hasan was wearing the garb of the shaheed the morning of his jihad, was giving out Qurans that same morning and was screaming “Allahu akbar!” while mowing down Americans.

And now he is trying to destroy the Second Amendment. This is the poison fruit of the left’s decades-long war on American values and morality. The problem is not guns. The problem is our societal glorification of violence and death. We need to recover love of life and respect for human beings in the society, and teach such things in schools.

Our societal nihilism is what leads to these attacks.

American children are fed a daily diet of violence from early childhood on. A nonstop feed of gratuitous, mindless violence on television, in movies, on the Internet and particularly video games dehumanizes and desensitizes. How many open-chest cavities do we need to see on “CSI” or “Law and Order”? When I was a kid, “The Twilight Zone” and Alfred Hitchcock could scare the living daylights out of you without so much as a knife or gun drawn. Add to that the porn culture, the lack of morality and virtue …

That lurid and amoral violence of Hollywood and the music industry, the breakdown of the family and a reckless abandonment of the mentally ill – all have contributed to this horrifying phenomenon of mass shootings. In the recent past, the mentally ill were institutionalized. But in the late 20th century, psychiatric hospitals got a very bad name; the left decided that the mental institutions were wrong and cruel. Institutionalizing someone became the bogeyman. The hospitals were closed, and we basically tossed our mentally ill onto the street. We medicated them and then threw them to the wolves. Now we’re raising a generation of mentally ill children, with limited mental health resources and a system with hands tied until after the tragedy happens.

In the U.K., where there is no right to bear arms, gun crime has gone up 89 percent in the last 10 years. Gun-control laws haven’t stopped that. The only way to stop a man with a gun is with a gun. It is little reported in the enemedia that the Clackamas mall shooter faced a shopper with a concealed weapon who cut his spree short. The Clackamas Town Center, two weeks before Christmas, was teeming with humanity, but the shooter managed to kill only two people. Concealed weapons save lives. John Lott reminds us, “Similar stories are available from across the country. They include shootings at schools that were stopped before police arrived in such places as Pearl, Miss., and Edinboro, Pa., and at colleges like the Appalachian Law School in Virginia. Or attacks in busy downtowns such as Memphis; at a mall in Salt Lake City, or at an apartment building in Oklahoma.”

 The NRA‘s Wayne LaPierre said Friday: “The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. Would you rather have your 911 call bring a good guy with a gun from a mile away … or a minute away? … The National Rifle Association knows that there are millions of qualified active and retired police; active, reserve and retired military…We can deploy them to protect our kids now.“

Those who recoil at the prospect of armed guards in schools, and who think banning all guns will solve the problem, should remember that on the same day as the Newtown massacre, a knife-wielding madman slashed 22 kids at an elementary school in China. I guess we’ll have to ban all knives, too.

Also, anti-gun hysteria is ignoring key distinctions. After the theatre shootings in Colorado last summer, Obama said: “AK-47s belong in the hands of soldiers, not on the streets of our cities.” However, the killer didn’t use an AK-47; he used an M&P 15. Lott noted: “The call has frequently been made that there is ‘no reason’ for such ‘military-style weapons’ to be available to civilians. Yes, the M&P 15 and the AK-47 are ‘military-style weapons.’ But the key word is ‘style’ – they are similar to military guns in their aesthetics, not in the way they actually operate.”

Gun-control laws simply don’t work. In Obama’s hometown of Chicago, the murder rate is skyrocketing, despite some of the most restrictive gun laws in the country. Everywhere guns have been banned, murder rates have gone up – whether it’s Chicago, D.C., England, Jamaica or Ireland.

What can we do? We need laws that require treatment and supervision of the dangerously mentally ill, so that violent and unstable people aren’t roaming around unsupervised as they are. We need to repeal sections of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act that – as unbelievable as it sounds – actually prevent doctors from telling parents of mentally ill children the truth about their condition. We need to make sure that hospitals aren’t releasing mentally ill patients solely for reasons of expense.

Once again our betters in the national enemedia missed a bit of the story while they were reporting on the Portland mall shooting. A critical and germane piece of information.

Thinking the Unthinkable  

In the wake of another horrific national tragedy, it’s easy to talk about guns. But it’s time to talk about mental illness.

Three days before 20 year-old Adam Lanza killed his mother, then opened fire on a classroom full of Connecticut kindergartners, my 13-year old son Michael (name changed) missed his bus because he was wearing the wrong color pants.

“I can wear these pants,” he said, his tone increasingly belligerent, the black-hole pupils of his eyes swallowing the blue irises.

“They are navy blue,” I told him. “Your school’s dress code says black or khaki pants only.”

“They told me I could wear these,” he insisted. “You’re a stupid bitch. I can wear whatever pants I want to. This is America. I have rights!”

“You can’t wear whatever pants you want to,” I said, my tone affable, reasonable. “And you definitely cannot call me a stupid bitch. You’re grounded from electronics for the rest of the day. Now get in the car, and I will take you to school.”

I live with a son who is mentally ill. I love my son. But he terrifies me.

A few weeks ago, Michael pulled a knife and threatened to kill me and then himself after I asked him to return his overdue library books. His 7 and 9 year old siblings knew the safety plan—they ran to the car and locked the doors before I even asked them to. I managed to get the knife from Michael, then methodically collected all the sharp objects in the house into a single Tupperware container that now travels with me. Through it all, he continued to scream insults at me and threaten to kill or hurt me.

That conflict ended with three burly police officers and a paramedic wrestling my son onto a gurney for an expensive ambulance ride to the local emergency room. The mental hospital didn’t have any beds that day, and Michael calmed down nicely in the ER, so they sent us home with a prescription for Zyprexa and a follow-up visit with a local pediatric psychiatrist.

We still don’t know what’s wrong with Michael. Autism spectrum, ADHD, Oppositional Defiant or Intermittent Explosive Disorder have all been tossed around at various meetings with probation officers and social workers and counselors and teachers and school administrators. He’s been on a slew of antipsychotic and mood altering pharmaceuticals, a Russian novel of behavioral plans. Nothing seems to work.

At the start of seventh grade, Michael was accepted to an accelerated program for highly gifted math and science students. His IQ is off the charts. When he’s in a good mood, he will gladly bend your ear on subjects ranging from Greek mythology to the differences between Einsteinian and Newtonian physics to Doctor Who. He’s in a good mood most of the time. But when he’s not, watch out. And it’s impossible to predict what will set him off.  

Several weeks into his new junior high school, Michael began exhibiting increasingly odd and threatening behaviors at school. We decided to transfer him to the district’s most restrictive behavioral program, a contained school environment where children who can’t function in normal classrooms can access their right to free public babysitting from 7:30-1:50 Monday through Friday until they turn 18.

The morning of the pants incident, Michael continued to argue with me on the drive. He would occasionally apologize and seem remorseful. Right before we turned into his school parking lot, he said, “Look, Mom, I’m really sorry. Can I have video games back today?”

“No way,” I told him. “You cannot act the way you acted this morning and think you can get your electronic privileges back that quickly.”

His face turned cold, and his eyes were full of calculated rage. “Then I’m going to kill myself,” he said. “I’m going to jump out of this car right now and kill myself.”

That was it. After the knife incident, I told him that if he ever said those words again, I would take him straight to the mental hospital, no ifs, ands, or buts. I did not respond, except to pull the car into the opposite lane, turning left instead of right.

“Where are you taking me?” he said, suddenly worried. “Where are we going?”

“You know where we are going,” I replied.

“No! You can’t do that to me! You’re sending me to hell! You’re sending me straight to hell!”

I pulled up in front of the hospital, frantically waiving for one of the clinicians who happened to be standing outside. “Call the police,” I said. “Hurry.”

The horror is unimaginable. The knee jerk reaction of the left to politically exploit this mass murder to advance gun control is vile, debased, inhuman. Daniel Greenfield nailed it when he said, the only way to stop a man with a gun is with a gun. Read Ruth King's post:

First: I have had a home in Newtown, Connecticut since 1965. My children spent all school and summer vacations there. My grandchildren all learned to swim there and we enjoyed countless barbecues, lawn parties, and family milestones there. My home is not in the borough of the Sandy Hook district where the unspeakable tragedy occurred. However, as facts emerge, I am learning from neighbors about their friends and family members who were directly affected. Newtown is a lovely place to be. It is a town where neighbors help one change a flat tire, volunteer as ambulance drivers and firemen, and rush to plow one out in a blizzard, or help pump out flooded cellars or clean up lawns after severe storms. It is a town that always honored veterans and is always festooned with the American flag on its lawns.It is also a town where so many people own and use guns for recreational shooting and target practice. My husband owned and collected handguns for three decades. He was also a doctor who always responded to neighbors’ need for medical help in emergencies or second opinion advice.

The happiest years of my life were spent there. On Independence Day in 1976, the rescue in Entebbe occurred and my non Jewish friends rushed to my home with joy to break the news and we all danced a hora on the lawn. I love Newtown and I pray for its citizens confronted with this tragedy.

Second: There is another irony. Newtown is the home of  Fairfield State Hospital,  which was a psychiatric hospital in Newtown, Connecticut, which operated from 1931 until 1995. At its peak the hospital housed over 4,000 patients. It is set on beautiful and rolling hills, and the patients were housed in lovely and well maintained old brick buildings which rivaled any of the famous Ivy League campuses.  It was closed during the de institutionalization movement which left so many of America’s mentally ill homeless and in the streets of America. Top U.S. Islamic Group Calls for ‘Gun Control’ Patrick Poole, July 24, 2012

Fresh off of handing a “diversity” award to outspoken Jew-hater DawudWalid, the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) is moving on to a new outrage by launching an attack on the U.S. Constitution.

The current issue of ISNA’s bi-monthly magazine Islamic Horizons carries an article about ISNA’s demand for gun control.

Specifically, the article, with the unambiguous title “ISNA Seeks Gun Control,” cites the shooting of Trayvon Martin to explain their opposition to S. 2188, the “National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act of 2012,” and S. 2213, the “Respecting States’ Rights and Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2012.”

An April 13^thaction alert on ISNA’s website directs their supporters to contact Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to have him stop the legislation from becoming law.

The same action alert states that ISNA is part of the Brady Center’s “Faiths United to Oppose Gun Violence,” and the Islamic group signed onto the Brady Center’s “Faith” group letter to Reid demanding he block the legislation.

This is not the first time that ISNA and the Brady Center have united to oppose the Second Amendment.

As noted by The Truth About Guns in February 2011, ISNA was one of the original founding groups of the “Faiths United to Oppose Gun Violence” when it was rolled out by the Brady Center.

Nor is the Second Amendment the only constitutional freedom under assault by ISNA and its leaders.

Human rights group urge Ban Ki-moon to condemn "scandalous" election

GENEVA, July 8 - Iran was elected to a top post on the UN Arms Trade Treaty conference, revealed UN Watch today in an exclusive report. The Geneva-based human rights group is calling on UN chief Ban Ki-moon, who addressed the conference on the same day, to condemn the selection of the Tehran regime.

Although the U.N. conference website and summary fail to name the 15 members elected to the bureau on July 3rd, UN Watch has discovered that the countries elected to the five regional groups include Iran, Japan, and South Korea for the Asian group; Kenya, Egypt and Nigeria for Africa; Azerbaijan, Belarus, and Ukraine for Eastern Europe; Australia, Netherlands and Switzerland for the Western Europe & Others Group; and Mexico and two others for Latin America. The United Nations Conference on the Arms Trade Treaty, which opened last week and runs until July 27, promises to deliver a new agreement to regulate the transfer of arms.

“Right after a UN Security Council report found Iran guilty of illegally transferring guns and bombs to Syria, which is now murdering thousands of its own people, it defies logic, morality and common sense for the UN to now elect this same regime to a global post in the regulation of arms transfers,” said Hillel Neuer, executive director of UN Watch, a non-governmental monitoring group based in Geneva.

"This is like choosing Bernie Madoff to police fraud on the stock market. And the U.N.'s scandalous choice of Iran is exactly why we fear that Syria's declared bid for a U.N. Human Rights Council seat is not impossible."

UN Watch called on UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, who addressed the conference on the same day as the election, to condemn the decision to give Iran a position of responsibility in regulating the arms trade.

"He should remind the conference that the Security Council has imposed four rounds of sanctions on Iran for refusing to halt its probited nuclear program, and that Iran continues to defy the international community through illegal arms shipments to the murderous Assad regime," said Neuer.

"Syria continues to be the central party to illicit Iranian arms transfers," the Security Council report recently found, citing the discovery of Iranian shipments to Damascus of assault rifles, machineguns, explosives, detonators, 60mm and 120mm mortal shells and other items.

Neuer expressed concern that the UN's election of Iran "injects ambiguity about the U.N.'s position on illicit Iranian arms transfers, fuels Iranian propaganda, and grants international legitimacy to a regime that tortures student activists, hangs gays and subjugates women."

Iran is already boasting about the UN election in its state-controlled media.

IRNA announced that Iran was elected "as deputy for the talks to regulate global arms trade treaty. Some 193 participating countries unanimously voted in favor of Iran during the 4th day of the meeting." ISNA also ran the report. The Tehran Times declared that Iran "is assisting the president of the Arms Trade Treaty Conference in the general conduct of the business of the conference."

I bolted a Denver event to appear on Dr. Drew yesterday evening. Once again, the left is using a terrible tragedy to go after our Second Amendment rights, and the Right to Defend law. I spared you the footage of the hoodie march and a lot of the whining. The bottom line is, we don't know what happened. All the facts have not come in. George Zimmerman is innocent until proven guilty just like every other American citizen. That Dr. Drew and his cohorts would be finding him guilty on camera is patently irresponsible. What's next? A mob lynching? Remember the Ox-Bow Incident.

This was a terrible tragedy. But exception makes bad law.

ANFORD, Fla. – Spurred by social media and community rallies, the shooting death of a 17-year-old Florida youth has become the latest flashpoint over how young black men are perceived in the United States.

Trayvon Marti's death Feb. 26 at the hands of a Neighborhood Watch leader in this small, gated Florida community has rippled through many corners of the nation's justice and political system and raised questions about the relationship between the black community and police in small towns.

In the past 48 hours, the case has:

•Sparked an investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice, the FBI and the Florida state attorney's office;

•Brought calls for changes in a Florida self-defense law that says a person being attacked has no duty to retreat and may return force;

Trayvon Martin was talking on his cellphone when he was shot and killed in February.

•Ignited protests, including a "Million Hoodie March" in New York City planned today, a protest Wednesday outside the Florida Division of Licensing, urging state officials to withdraw George Zimmerman's concealed weapons permit and a rally Thursday in Sanford led by civil rights activist Al Sharpton;

•Amassed more than 600,000 signatures in an online petition calling for charges to be filed against George Zimmerman, the Neighborhood Watch captain who said he shot Martin.

•Prompted NAACP national President Benjamin Todd Jealous and local NAACP officials to host an open forum Wednesday in Sanford for residents to share their stories of abuse and discrimination by the Sanford Police Department. Jealous said Tuesday night that the information provided would be turned over to the Department of Justice, which is investigating the Martin shooting.

Zimmerman has not been arrested or charged with a crime.

Last weekend in the city of Chicago alone, gangbangers slaughtered ten people and wounded another forty. The youngest fatality is only six years old. The youngest person wounded is only one-year-old. Many of the victim were pedestrians sprayed with bullets in drive by shootings. The national news has said nothing about this.

So why does one shooting in Florida warrant weeks of national news? Why has there been thousands of articles a day, for the last four days, about one single shooting?

Almost all of the news items about George Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin contains a combination of false statements, opinions presented as facts, transparent distortions, and a complete absence of some of the most relevant details. Almost all news items are written soley from the point of view of the grieving family. The media also fills their articles with outdated baby-faced pictures of Trayvon. Very few include that he was a towering 6'2” football player. Is the media really reporting the news, or is this classic agitation/propaganda to advance a political agenda.

Literally thousands of articles contain at least one false statement in the first couple of lines. They usually read "George ZImmerman, a white man," or "shoot by a white man." Zimmerman is described by family as a multiracial Hispanic. His appearance is clearly that of a Latino/Mestizo individual. However, the media wants him to be white because that better fits the political narrative they are trying to artificially create. Many news articles have also claimed the neighborhood is "mostly white." This is also a lie. The neighborhood is only 49% white. It is over half non-white.

 All the way back on February 27th, the local Orlando Fox station interviewed the witness who dialed 911. Almost none of the thousands of articles since have mentioned any of the details described by the witness. Some, however, have attributed false statements to this witness. On March 16th, the Sanford police department released new details to the Orlando Sentinel. Once again, these details have been ignored or changed by the media.

1. The witness reports that George Zimmerman was on the ground and Trayvon is on top of him punching him.
2. The witness says that George Zimmerman was screaming and yelling for help.
3. Police arrive and find Zimmerman bleeding on his face and the back of his head. He also has had grass stains on his back. All this confirms the story told by Zimmerman and the witness.
4. Police play the 911 tape for Trayvon Martin's father, who tells police that the voice screaming is not the voice of his son.

The neighborhood this took place in has seen a lot of crime. Would you be surprised to learn that there were eight burglaries, nine thefts, and a shooting just in the past year? In fact, the local homeowners' association reports that George Zimmerman actually caught one thief and aided in the apprehension of other criminals. The Miami Herald wrote about this on March 17th. None of the thousands of articles and cable news segments that came after, thought this was important.

In fact the Miami Herald goes on to interview neighbor, Ibrahim Rashada, who is black. Rashada ​confirms that there has been a lot of crime in the neighborhood and indicates to the reporter that the perpetrators are usually black.

The media also characterizes Trayvon as a "model student." In fact, he under a five day suspension when the shooting took place. That is why he was staying at a house so far from his school on a school night. A laywer for Trayvon's family has blocked access to his school records. However, you have to do something pretty bad to get suspended for five days.

Now that you know the suppressed facts of the case, you can for form a better more balanced opinion. Maybe you still think Zimmerman was wrong to pull the trigger. However, I think you will come to the conclusion that the "mainstream" clearly is pushing an agenda. Even when they have to grossly alter and adjust a story to fit that agenda.

This one you have to see to believe. I appeared on the Dr. Drew show last night to discuss gun control. Kids wounded, killed by guns: Who's to blame?

Lisa Blum, the gun control advocate, should be writing fiction *headslap* she already is for the left. She doesn't exaggerate, she lies. She claimed that 30,000 children die every year from gun accidents. This is pure fiction, a whopper of a lie -- it's under 200, terrible, yes, but tens of thousands die every year in car accidents. Does the left want to ban cars?

Here is the story we are discussing:

After his parents stopped for gas early Wednesday, the young boy scrambled out of his child seat, found a gun police say was left in the car by his father and fatally shot himself in the head.

Tacoma police said his father put his pistol under a seat and got out to pump gas while the mother went inside the convenience store. The boy’s infant sister, who also was in the car, was not injured.

The Pierce County medical examiner has identified the boy as Julio Segura-McIntosh of Tacoma.

Like a typical leftist she interrupts, obfuscates, makes up facts and whispers insults under her breath. Classic shrill shill.

 The other woman whose name I think was Lisa was very loud, rude, and closed minded. I couldn't hear most of what you tried to say bacause she kept talking loudly and interrupting you. My impression was that she was calling for new laws to ban guns disguised as a law to protect children from guns, and you were trying to explain why such a reaction would be an unreasonable attempt to take away the right of citizens to bear arms. Of course, you are right and she is wrong, but the wrong-headed people like her think wrong is right anyway. Whew ... makes my head spin. It is politicians with political courage like Ilario Pantano who actually speak for the people. And they are few. Pantano is one of them. If you don't know him, you should. OBAMA'S COMING FOR YOUR GUNS: FIRST THE MILITARY

I received this from an Atlas reader. And no, I am not buying the "suicide" angle, as if it's for the soldiers' good. You don't need a gun to kill yourself, and frankly, if those evil forces want to sell an idea, it would be sold as something that "was for the good of the soldiers". Knowing what we know about President Hussein, he despises our military and holds them in as great contempt, as he does great Americans and patriots.

Where is the damn NRA on this?

I am currently assigned at Fort xxxxxxl. I live off post, with my firearms(which I don't bring on post for any reason). A very frightening thing happened at work yesterday. I was ordered to fill out a list containing my firearm information. This included make, model, caliber, and serial number of all firearms I currently posses. In addition, I was also required to list registration information, location of all weapons individually, and information regarding any CCW permits I possess.

 If you are like me, then the people you work with know you have firearms. So I had to list at least some. I tried to talk to my 1sg(who is normally approachable through proper channels) to find out what this is for, and I was basically told, "I don't give a !&@%, just put your info on the form."
I don't know how high this goes, but I am hearing that this is going on in other units at Fort Campbell as well. It just seems a little coincidental to me that within 90 days: the most anti-firearm President in history is inaugurated, some of the nastiest anti-firearm laws are put on the table in Washington, and then the Army comes around wanting what amounts to a registration on all firearms, even if they are off post, and doesn't provide any reason or purpose as to why. I fear something really nasty is blowing in the wind here.
 I have been in almost 8 years, and never have any of my units asked for this information. If any of you out there have any info as to what all this crap is about please chime in. Otherwise consider yourself warned. I have already posted this on every other firearm forum I am a member of to get the word out.

Nothing in this section expands or restricts the Secretary's authority to inquire into the disposition of any firearm in the course of a criminal investigation.

We all wondered when it was going to start--when the new administration would make their move against us as gun owners.

Oh, everyone got upset about HR45--I'll bet I got over 100 e-mails warning me about this draconian gun registration bill that had been introduced in Congress.

I was really glad to see Tom Gresham, host of "Gun Talk Radio," an editor, writer, television host on "Self-Defense TV," and one of the foremost gun spokespersons, come out and tell everyone to stop worrying about legislation so absolutely over-the-top--it would never get out of committee.

Tom said save your energy for when we really need it--don't expend it trying to warn everyone in your e-mail list about legislation that would go nowhere.

Now, Tom just interviewed me, and Larry Haynie, owner of Georgia Arms (http://www.georgia-arms.com/), on Gun Talk (http://www.guntalk.com/)--and Tom agrees, now is the time to "...unleash the hounds..." by which he means start e-mailing and writing your senators and congressmen.

Now it has come clear...now we know what they intend to do.

This notice also requires SV to immediately cease delivery of any fired munitions that have been recently sold or on active term contracts, unless the material has been mutilated prior to sale or SV personnel can attest to the mutilation after delivery. A certificate of destruction is required in either case.

The new DRMS requirement calls for DOD Surplus personnel to witness the mutilation of the property and sign the Certificate of Destruction. Mutilation of the property can be done at the DRMO, if permitted by the Government, or it may be mutilated at a site chosen by the buyer. Mutilation means that the property will be destroyed to the extent prevents its reuse or reconstruction. DOD Surplus personnel will determine when property has been sufficiently mutilated to meet the requirements of the Government.
