Atlas Shrugs: WHAT TO DO IF A NUCLEAR DISASTER IS IMMINENT

This guide is for families preparing for imminent terrorist or strategic nuclear attacks
with expected severe destruction followed by widespread radioactive fallout downwind.

IF ONLY A 'Dirty Bomb' Attack (Not the vastly more devastating nuclear weapon blasts with fallout discussed below.) - You can expect localized and downwind contamination from the explosion and dispersed radioactive materials. If you are near enough to see or hear any local bomb blast, assume that it includes radiological or chemical agents. You should move away from the blast area as quickly as possible. If the wind is blowing toward you from the direction of the blast, travel in a direction that is crosswise or perpendicular to the wind as you move away from the blast area. If possible cover your face with a dust mask or cloth to avoid inhaling potentially radioactive dust. Upon reaching a safe location, remove your outer clothing outside and shower as soon as possible. Refer to local news sources for additional instructions about sheltering or evacuation. The government is better prepared to direct and assist the public in a 'dirty bomb' incident, unlike an actual nuclear weapon attack discussed below.

#1 - STAY OR GO?

You must decide FIRST if you need to prepare where you are, or attempt evacuation. The nature of the threat, your prior preparations, and your confidence in your sources of information should direct your decision. If you know already you will be preparing to stay at your own home or, at least, the immediate local area, go now to #2 below.

If you are considering evacuation, your decision requires a very high confidence that it is worth the risk. You do not want to get stuck between your current location and your hoped for destination, as there will probably be no easy getting back. If you fail to get to your destination, you may be exposed without shelter, in a dangerous situation with little effective law enforcement, perhaps among panicked hordes of refugees. Whatever supplies you have may be limited then to what you can carry on foot. IF you are in a big city or near a military target, AND you have relatives or friends in the country that you know are awaiting you, AND the roads between you and them are clear, AND the authorities are not yet restricting traffic, AND you have the means and fuel, evacuation may be a viable option for a limited time. DO NOT attempt evacuation if all of the above is not clearly known, or if the situation is deteriorating too quickly to make the complete trip. You do not want to get stuck and/or become a refugee being herded along with panicked masses. If evacuation is truly a viable option, do not wait - GO NOW! Do so with as many of the supplies listed on the last page as possible. Better to be two days too early in arriving than two hours too late and getting snagged mid-way, potentially exposing your family to a worse fate than having stayed where you were. Because of the very real danger of getting caught in an evacuation stampede that stalls, almost all families will be better off making the best of it wherever they currently are.

Chaldean Archbishop Found Dead After Iraq Kidnapping (Update1)

March 13 (Bloomberg) -- A Chaldean Catholic archbishop kidnapped in northern Iraq last month has been found dead, the information service of the Italian bishops' conference said.    

The archbishop of Mosul, Paulos Faraj Rahho, was abducted on Feb. 29, the SIR service said. Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al- Maliki had called for the release of the archbishop.    

``Monsignor Rahho is dead. We found him lifeless near Mosul. His abductors buried him,'' SIR cited the auxiliary bishop of Baghdad, Shlemon Warduni, as saying.    

Chaldean Catholics make up the largest community of Christians in Iraq, Agence France-Presse said. There were as many as 800,000 in the country before the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003, though many have been killed or kidnapped by Sunni and Shiite Islamists and criminal gangs since then, the news service said.

Al-Qaeda Kidnaps Western Tourists as 'Retribution' Over Israel Israel National News

(IsraelNN.com) Members of the North African branch of the international terrorist organization Al-Qaeda announced Monday that they are holding two Austrian tourists hostage "in retribution" for what they claim is Western support for Israeli counter-terrorism operations. Al-Qaeda threatened more such kidnappings.

In an audio tape aired by the Gulf-based Al-Jazeera satellite network, a man who claimed to represent Al-Qaeda in Islamic North Africa (AQIM), Salah Abu Mohammad, identified the two Austrians and said they were in good condition. The alleged hostages, a man and a woman who had been touring southern Tunisia, were reported as missing in mid-February, according to Austrian officials.

"We tell Western tourists that, while they come into Tunisia seeking joy, our brothers are being slain in Gaza by the Jews with the collaboration of the Western states," Abu Mohammad said. "The jihadists have previously warned and alerted [Westerners] that the apostate Tunisian state cannot and will not be able to protect you, and the hands of the jihadists can reach you wherever you are on Tunisian soil."

AQIM will issue their demands for release of the two Austrians soon, Abu Muhammad said. He further warned Austria not to take any action in Algeria, AQIM's suspected home base of operations. Tunisian authorities, meanwhile, doubt that the hostages are still in their country.

Algeria: Eight would-be suicide bombers 'headed to Gaza', says report hat tip rut

Algiers, 10 March (AKI) - Eight would-be suicide bombers left eastern Algeria a few days ago and are reportedly heading to the Gaza Strip to commit suicide attacks against Israeli soldiers, reported pan Arab daily al-Sharq al-Awsat on Monday.

The young men reportedly left their homes days ago without saying anything to their families.

Reportedly, their intent is to join Hamas' armed wing, the Izzadin al-Qassam brigades, considered a terrorist organisation by the European Union, the United States, Australia and the United Kingdom.

The report said that after a few days, two of the would-be bombers reached Gaza and called their parents saying they were in good health and that they wanted "to carry out a suicide attack against the Jews."

The eight men, aged between 18 and 24 come from the village of al-Raqiba in the province of Wadi, about 600 kilometres from the capital Algiers.

The fledgling failed-state of Kosovo is a great boon for the global jihad. It is true that Kosovar Muslims by and large do not subscribe to radical Islam. But it is also true that they have allowed their territory to be used as bases for al-Qaida operations; that members of the ruling Kosovo Liberation Army have direct links to al-Qaida; and that the Islamic world as a whole perceived Kosovo's fight for independence from Serbia as a jihad for Islamic domination of the disputed province.

According to a 2002 Wall Street Journal report, al-Qaida began operating actively in Kosovo, and in the rest of the Balkans, in 1992. Osama bin Laden visited Albania in 1996 and 1997. He received a Bosnian passport from the Bosnian Embassy in Austria in 1993. Acting on bin Laden's orders, in 1994 his deputy, Ayman Zawahiri set up training bases throughout the Balkans including one in Mitrovica, Kosovo. The Taliban and al-Qaida set up drug trafficking operations in Kosovo to finance their operations in Afghanistan and beyond.

In 2006, John Gizzi reported in Human Events that the German intelligence service BND had confirmed that the 2005 terrorist bombings in Britain and the 2004 bombings in Spain were organized in Kosovo. Furthermore, "The man at the center of the provision of the explosives in both instances was an Albanian, operating mostly out of Kosovo... who is the second ranking leader of the Kosovo Liberation Army, Niam Behzloulzi."

Then, too, at its 1998 meeting in Pakistan, the Organization of the Islamic Conference declared that the Albanian separatists in Kosovo were fighting a jihad. The OIC called on the Muslim world to help "this fight for freedom on the occupied Muslim territories."

Supporters of Kosovo claim that as victims of "genocide," Kosovar Muslims deserve independence. But if the Muslims in Kosovo have been targeted for annihilation by the Serbs, then how is it that they have increased from 48% of the population in 1948 to 92% today? Indeed, Muslims comprised only 78% of the population in 1991, the year before Yugoslavia broke apart.

In recent years particularly, it is Kosovo's Serbian Christians, not its Albanian Muslims, who are targeted for ethnic cleansing. Since 1999, two-thirds of Kosovo's Serbs - some 250,000 people - have fled the area.

The emergence of a potentially destabilizing state in Kosovo is clearly an instance of political interests trumping law. Under international law, Kosovo has no right to be considered a sovereign state. Even UN Security Council Resolution 1244 from 1999, which the KLA claims provides the legal basis for Kosovar sovereignty, explicitly recognizes Serbian sovereignty over Kosovo.

For Israel, Kosovo's US-backed declaration of independence should be a source of alarm great enough to require a rethinking of foreign policy. Unfortunately, rather than understand and implement the lessons of Kosovo, the Olmert-Livni-Barak government is working actively to ensure that they are reenacted in the international community's treatment of Israel and the Palestinians. Today, Israel is enabling the Palestinians to set the political and legal conditions for the establishment of an internationally recognized state of Palestine that will be at war with Israel.

Morocco Arrests 23, Including Manar Correspondent, Over Terror Plot hat tip rut

An investigation by the judicial authorities led to the sweep Monday in the capital Rabat.

A security source told Agence France Presse several arms were seized during the raids.

A report by the state-run news agency MAP identified only three suspects: Mustapha Moatassim, the secretary general of a small, legal Islamist party, Al Badil Al Hadari, Mohammed Merouani who heads the illegal Umma Party and the alleged group ringleader Abdelkader Balliraj.

The report said those arrested had ties to radical Islam. It did not specify what type of plots the alleged terror group had been planning.

Police said they had probed "the ramifications and connections of the network with others active in Morocco and abroad."

Who represents “mainstream Islam”?

This is a burning question that is often posed by the West to the Muslim Communities residing in the West. So immediately, we are going to face a problem. Here, the West wants us to say that the Muslims residing in Western lands are “mainstream Muslims” that follow “mainstream Islam.” In other words, they want us to forget that their is a powerful voice in the Middle East and South Asia, and instead, fill our heads with air making us think and feel that we are the superior part of the Ummah because we have an education and have more money and can speak English well. If they were to ask “mainstream Muslims in the West,” then this would have never ever become an issue. The idea of “mainstream Islam” is where the trap is placed. So the Muslims turn to media savvy people like Hamza Yusuf or so-called intellectuals like Tariq Ramadan. This trap is so well-placed and hidden that almost the majority of the Muslims in the West don’t see it. For those who do see it, they stay quiet on the issue. Why is this?

When a Muslim in the West is asked who represents “mainstream Islam,” he doesn’t realize that the West is playing their role of divide and conquer. This is their strategy. So the Muslims will look to those that “make Islam look bad” to Kuffaar - as if Islam is obsessed with its image in the eyes of the disbelievers - such as the Mujaahideen, the Mujaahideen Shuyookh such as Shaykh Abu ‘Aasim Muhammad al-Maqdisi, and the staunch Mujaahideen supporters such as Abu ‘Izzadeen and they (the ones who worry) will openly display a type of Baraa’ah against these brothers by calling them “extremists” and “radicals” etc. even though our role as Muslims is to unite - not on the basis of how the non-Muslims would see us - but on the basis of belief and activism.

Brother Anjem Choudhury, for instance, is labeled an extremist by many Muslims and Muslim groups in the West even though he never said anything which is considered Fisq, Kufr or Shirk. Forget that, he didn’t even say anything which is considered Makrooh! So what is holding us back from uniting with him and his likes? It is nothing except the obsession with the “image of Islam” (which is another issue) towards the Kuffaar. Some might ask, “So… what is the problem with that? Is that not considered Da’wah?” In some cases it is and in some cases it is not. The problem comes when we try to apply one principal (such as the old woman who threw her trash on the Prophet (sallallahu ‘alayhi wassallam) every time he passed by) to all situations. There is a context and timing for everything and it is time for us to loosen up on the aspect of becoming fearful of what the Kuffaar might say or will say since failing to do so will make us feel stupid when reading the aayah,

وَلَنْ تَرْضَى عَنْكَ الْيَهُودُ وَلا النَّصَارَى حَتَّى تَتَّبِعَ مِلَّتَهُمْ

Never will the Jews or the Christians be pleased with you unless you follow their Millah (path/religion/lifestyle). (2:120)

And every time we do read it, we find ourselves ignoring tafakkur (reflection) upon this noble verse. Is it due to the clarity in the statement of Allah Ta’aala? I believe so.

Bombing in Copenhagen - A turn for the worse

A bombing in Copenhagen this morning followed a week of street riots over the 'Prophet' cartoons

Around 11am today a bomb exploded in a solarium in Copenhagen. The suntan shop was situated just by the national football stadium in Oesterbro, a peaceful and affluent part of the Danish capital. The explosion completely destroyed the shop and the surrounding flats were also damaged.

The police are putting the fact that no one was hurt down to sheer luck; two other bags were found in the area and have been destroyed. Two young men between the ages of 15 and 25 were seen running away from the crime scene; they were described as "foreign-looking" and are now wanted by the police.

Which was it 15 or 25?

The explosion is a drastic escalation of the week-long riots on the streets Denmark where young Muslim men have vented their anger and frustration towards Danish society by setting fire to cars and burning bonfires in the streets.

The rioters claim that their action is a protest against the reprinting of the prophet cartoons, which took place last Wednesday when a unified Danish press decided to print/reprint the cartoon depicting the prophet Muhammad with a bomb in his turban. The decision to reprint was taken when the Danish security service (PET) notified the public that three men had been arrested on suspicion of plotting the murder of the cartoonist, Kurt Westergaard.

They should be shipped back to their 7th century dirt holes.

However, it is debatable whether the reprinting of the cartoons was the real reason behind the rioting. The night before they were published the air on Oesterbro was thick with the smoke of bonfires and burning rubber, carried by the wind from neighbouring Noerrebro, where much of the rioting has taken place. The cartoons no doubt had an explosive effect on matters, but the fire was already burning.

But it's OK when they do it to Israel?

MELBOURNE (AFP) — Members of a group of Muslim men who allegedly formed a terrorist cell in Australia discussed killing the then prime minister John Howard in 2004, a court heard Tuesday.

Prosecutors said two of the 12 men allegedly involved in the Melbourne-based group raised the possibility of killing Howard in September 2004, when they were discussing what actions were permitted under the Koran.

They said secretly-recorded conversations revealed that group member Abdullah Merhi asked the leader, cleric Abdul Nacer Benbrika: "If John Howard kills innocent families... Muslims, do we have to kill him?"

The prosecution said Merhi also asked if an attack on the Australian government would be wrong if it was aimed at forcing the withdrawal of the country's troops from Iraq.

Saudi Arabia's rulers threatened to make it easier for terrorists to attack London unless corruption investigations into their arms deals were halted, according to court documents revealed yesterday.

Previously secret files describe how investigators were told they faced "another 7/7" and the loss of "British lives on British streets" if they pressed on with their inquiries and the Saudis carried out their threat to cut off intelligence.

Prince Bandar, the head of the Saudi national security council, and son of the crown prince, was alleged in court to be the man behind the threats to hold back information about suicide bombers and terrorists. He faces accusations that he himself took more than £1bn in secret payments from the arms company BAE.

He was accused in yesterday's high court hearings of flying to London in December 2006 and uttering threats which made the prime minister, Tony Blair, force an end to the Serious Fraud Office investigation into bribery allegations involving Bandar and his family.

The threats halted the fraud inquiry, but triggered an international outcry, with allegations that Britain had broken international anti-bribery treaties.

Lord Justice Moses, hearing the civil case with Mr Justice Sullivan, said the government appeared to have "rolled over" after the threats. He said one possible view was that it was "just as if a gun had been held to the head" of the government.

The SFO investigation began in 2004, when Robert Wardle, its director, studied evidence unearthed by the Guardian. This revealed that massive secret payments were going from BAE to Saudi Arabian princes, to promote arms deals.

CIVILIZATION JIHAD

The existence of a Muslim Brotherhood Memorandum that was entered into evidence at the federal trial of the Holy Land Foundation in Dallas. The following is an analysis of this memorandum by Stephen Coughlin, whose contract was not renewed by the Pentagon but who will soon be in a new position with the Office of the Secretary of Defense sent out by American Congress for Truth .

The bottom line of this memorandum is this: It calls for “Civilization Jihad” (what we typically refer to as “cultural Jihad”) against North America. As we have noted in prior emails to you, this aspect of Jihad is ominous and insidious, in that it is incremental, occurs from within, and is thus unnoticed by most people. As the people of Great Britain have painfully learned (perhaps too late), resisting this form of Jihad will, in fact, require greater vigilance and will on our part than resisting the obvious assault of terrorism.

The Memorandum clearly asserts that the Muslim Brotherhood, a radical Islamic organization that has spawned some 70 Islamic organizations around the world and in the United States (such as ISNA), is the authority for the advance of “civilization Jihad.”

INTRODUCTION

The following is a brief analysis of a Muslim Brotherhood document entered into evidence in the U.S. v Holy Land Foundation trial (Trial) that the U.S. Justice Department is currently prosecuting in Federal Court. Analysis is based on this document as well as other publicly available documents. (For a broad offering of Trial documents, see here). The attached documents relate to ISNA and the Trial.

The first document is a Muslim Brotherhood memorandum that was accepted into evidence in the U.S. v Holy Land Foundation (HLF) case. The first 16 pages are in the original Arabic and the second are English language translations of the same. It is dated 22 May 1991 and titled “An Explanatory Memorandum on the General Strategic Goal for the Group in North America” (Memorandum). The document includes an Attachment 1 that contains “a list of our organizations and the organizations of our friends.”

Among those noted in the Attachment are ISNA, MSA, AMSS, AMSE, NAIT, IFC, IPAC, IAP, UASR, ICNA (typo in the second listing) and IIIT. ICNA and ISNA are the only two organizations named in the body of the text. ISNA is additionally represented on the list as IFC (ISNA Fiqh Committee – now the Fiqh Council of North America) and IPAC (ISNA Political Awareness Committee). The second document is a signed letter from Members of Congress Pete Hoekstra and Sue Myrick to the Justice Department dated 28 August 2007 formally requesting that Justice stand down from “co-sponsoring” a conference with ISNA due to its very close relationship to the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas. Justice attended anyhow. The Memorandum was admitted into evidence at the same time the Letter was sent addressing Congressional concerns.

The eminent scholar, Bat Ye’or, is tiny in height only; she is a towering intellect and a fierce judge of both human character and history. Her work predicted and documented the Islamification of Europe. We both agree that the battle for America has only begun—although I believe that it is well underway.

Here we are, two friends, ladies of a certain age, sitting in the most pleasant of surroundings , (a private club, tres ancien regime), and conversing most seriously, not about children and grandchildren, not about the ballet or the opera, (under other circumstances, a conversation we might certainly like to have), but given our times, and our views, a luxury we cannot afford. Thus, we talk about War and Peace and the Clash of Civilizations. What could be more enjoyable and yet more pathetic? Yes, pathetic. We two should be having this conversation in a government office and our views should be leading to co-ordinated government actions. More’s the pity that this is not the case.

Phyllis: What do you see is happening at this moment?

Bat Ye’or: The West is engaged in a very careful exercise of self-censorship. We are trying not to offend Muslim sensibilities. Western governments want to impose respect for Muslim sensibilities in the hope that this will avoid jihad. They are ready to suppress the truth.

Phyllis: What do you think of an Obama Presidency?

Bat Ye’or: Obama and his supporters do not seem to understand that Europe has failed. Today, European dissidents are forming movements against the European Union whose policies have led to the Islamification of Europe. Europe is suffering from a huge Muslim immigration problem. The Muslim immigrants do not want to integrate into a modern, tolerant state and they want to impose Sha’ria law on us all.

Phyllis: What does this remind you of?

Bat Ye’or: All these Western gestures of appeasement reminds me of the dhimmi regulations. These are a whole set of regulations whose purpose is to respect Muslim sensibilities. Therefore, Christians must conduct “quiet” services and dhimmis (infidels) must wear special clothing so as not to shock or offend Muslims with their too-fashionable or too-expensive clothing. Long ago, infidels had to dismount from their donkeys when a Muslim approached and a dhimmi could only pass a Muslim on the left (or impure) side, not on the right side.

I am not in favor of inciting anyone but really, where will this all end? And why this super-sensitivity only to Muslims? There is only one answer. Our intellectuals and politicians want to have a good relationship with the Muslim world. They think they will always have the freedoms that they currently enjoy. They do not understand that those freedoms are at risk.

Phyllis: Where does Israel fit into this picture?

Bat Ye’or: Europeans have imagined that the problem is only Israel. They were committed to allowing the Arabs to destroy Israel if that kept them, the Europeans, safe. But these Europeans do not seem to remember that Islam persecuted and then destroyed Christianity in Muslim lands. We see a repetition of this in Europe today.

Phyllis: Such politicians and intellectuals are suicidal, don’t you think?

Bat Ye’or: Absolutely. But they want so much to be loved that they are reaching out to their enemy. This is the politics of self-destruction. They are making concessions about their basic security and freedom

Phyllis: Some people are already discouraged, almost in advance, about the battle for America. What do you think?

Bat Ye’or: This battle is not yet lost. The handful of us who are working to alert others to the dangers specific to the 21st century are doing heroic work against all odds. We—you—have not failed. I believe that we are planting seeds. When America battled communism it had whole organizations committed to doing so. We—you—have nothing like that today in the war against Islamic terror.

Phyllis: I know that your work was initially attacked or “disappeared.” How much has this changed?

Bat Ye’or: My work has been well received in Italy by the most prominent Italian intellectuals. I am, however, conspicuously avoided in the UK by the media and in universities—although I did speak before Parliament two years ago. In France, everyone’s speech is less free than elsewhere. It is the most intellectually repressive society.

After I returned home, I read that French intellectuals, headed by Bernard Henri-Levy are organizing to support Aayan Hirsi Ali’s request for French citizenship. Have the French finally begun to wake up? Or does this say something about Sarkozy’s future politics and his potential interest in a high-profile symbol?

RABIAH HUTCHINSON, the Mudgee-born grandmother accused of being the "grand dame" of extremist jihadis in Australia, says she has limited sympathy for the victims of the Bali bombings because those holidaying on the Indonesian island engaged in pedophilia and drug taking.

And her close friend, Raisah bint Alan Douglas, another Australian convert to radical Islam who also married a suspected terrorist supporter, has praised Osama bin Laden, saying he followed a "correct" version of Islam.

The women are featured in a documentary to be aired on ABC television tonight, Jihad Sheilas.

Ms Hutchinson is a former hippie who converted to Islam in Indonesia in 1973. Ms Douglas also hails from country NSW, Dubbo, and has been married five times to Muslim men, including her current husband Omar Abdi Mohamed, a suspected terrorist financier who was deported from the US.

Ms Hutchinson was schooled by the leaders of Jemaah Islamiah, Abdullar Sungkar and Abu Bakar Bashir, at one time marrying the head of JI's Australian wing in the 1990s.

"I have the greatest respect for them," she said of the two men, adding she believed Abu Bakar Bashir was not involved in the Bali attacks which killed 202 people, including 88 Australians.

"Do I feel for the people who died? Not as much as for those 200 Afghani people that gave me and my children shelter," she said. "Why? Because they were holidaying in someone's country, sometimes engaging in child pornography or pedophilia or drug taking."

The 200 Afghans Ms Hutchinson referred to were villagers who she said were massacred by US-led forces following the September 11, 2001, attacks because they refused to give her up to the authorities.

Ms Hutchinson had taken her six children to Taliban-controlled Afghanistan to experience a pure Islamic state.

SCOTLAND YARD is braced for a fresh wave of possible terrorist attacks against public transport after a group of suspected Islamist suicide bombers were arrested in a secret security operation at Gatwick airport.

Six Pakistani men were held under anti-terrorism laws 10 days ago after they flew in from Barcelona. The arrests were prompted by a tip-off from the Spanish intelligence services after the discovery of a suspected Al-Qaeda terror cell in the city. The cell is alleged to have planned to detonate suicide bombs on the Barcelona Metro. The Spanish warned a similar attack was being planned here.

Benazir Bhutto accuses Osama Bin Laden's son from beyond the grave

IN A POSTHUMOUS autobiography excerpted in The Sunday Times today, Benazir Bhutto names the 16-year-old son of Osama Bin Laden as the leader of one of four gangs of “designated assassins” sent to kill her.

The former Pakistan prime minister, who was assassinated as she left a rally in Rawalpindi in December, reveals she was warned by both President Pervez Musharraf and a “friendly Muslim government” that Hamza Bin Laden was planning her murder.

The naming of Bin Laden’s teenage son appears to bolster intelligence claims that Hamza is being groomed as a future leader of Al-Qaeda.

In her new autobiography, Bhutto writes: “I was told by both the Musharraf regime and the foreign Muslim government that four suicide bomber squads would attempt to kill me. These included, the reports said, the squads sent by the Taliban warlord Baitullah Mehsud; Hamza Bin Laden, a son of Osama Bin Laden; Red Mosque militants; and a Karachi-based militant group.”

Little has been heard of Hamza since he featured in a joint Taliban and Al-Qaeda video, shot in 2001, of a militant attack on a Pakistan army camp in South Waziristan, a militant stronghold near the Afghan border.

An al-Qaida affiliate purportedly claimed responsibility for a shooting attack on the Israeli Embassy in Mauritania's capital, saying it had carried out the assault in response to Israeli policies in the Gaza Strip, an Arab television station reported Saturday.
