Al-Zawahiri invites us to accept Islam, which Muhammad the prophet of Islam stipulates as the first step when meeting the unbelievers, before going to war with them (cf. Sahih Muslim 4294). But of course, he and his ilk are already at war with us; his statement here merely reveals yet again the goal for which he and the jihadists are fighting: to extend Islamic law over the world.

It is noteworthy also that the Telegraph article about which Raymond commented here has no mention of this invitation to Islam. Why would the Telegraph not consider that fit to print? Do they think it's meaningless religious boilerplate? Irrelevant? Or that it would offend Muslims in Britain if they called attention to it?

CAIRO, Egypt (AP) - Al-Qaida's No. 2 leader appeared in a new video posted Friday calling on Americans to embrace Islam to overcome the financial meltdown, which he said was a consequence of the Sept. 11 attacks and militant strikes in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Ayman al-Zawahri, whose 80-minute recording touched on a number of subjects, also lashed out at Afghanistan's government and said any U.S. gains in Iraq will be temporary.

Zawahri's new recording came in the form of a question-and-answer session with an off-camera interviewer.

A jury on Monday determined that the Holy Land Foundation and five men who worked with the Muslim charity were guilty of three dozen counts related to the illegal funneling of at least $12 million to the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas. The unanimous verdicts are a complete victory for the government, which streamlined its case and worked hard to carefully educate jurors on the complex, massive evidence presented in the trial.

The prosecution's victory is also a major one for the lame duck administration of President George W. Bush, whose efforts at fighting terrorism financing in court have been troubled, even though the flow of funds seems to be effectively shut down.

It was the second trial where the government attempted to convict the men and the now-defunct, Richardson-based Holy Land Foundation itself. It took the jury eight days of deliberations to reach its decisions – less than half the time it took jurors to deadlock end up with an almost complete mistrial last year on the first go-around.

Before he read the verdict, the judge had ordered all observers to remain civil and respect the proceedings.

Spencer declares, "This verdict is a huge official recognition of the reality of that stealth jihad, and a huge setback for the likes of CAIR, which was named an unindicted co-conspirator in this case."

GAFFNEY: Treasury submits to Shariah Frank Gaffney

COMMENTARY: The U.S. Treasury Department is submitting to Shariah - the seditious religio-political-legal code authoritative Islam seeks to impose worldwide under a global theocracy. As reported in this space last week, Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Robert Kimmitt set the stage with his recent visit to Saudi Arabia and other oil-rich Persian Gulf states. His stated purpose was to promote the recycling of petrodollars in the form of foreign investment here.

Evidently, the price demanded by his hosts is that the U.S. government get with the Islamist financial program. While in Riyadh, Mr. Kimmitt announced: "The U.S. government is currently studying the salient features of Islamic banking to ascertain how far it could be useful in fighting the ongoing world economic crisis."

"Islamic banking" is a euphemism for a practice better known as "Shariah-Compliant Finance (SFC)." And it turns out that this week the Treasury will be taking officials from various federal agencies literally to school on SFC.

The department is hosting a half-day course entitled "Islamic Finance 101" on Thursday at its headquarters building. Treasury's self-described "seminar for the policy community" is co-sponsored with the leading academic promoters of Shariah and SCF in the United States: Harvard University Law School's Project on Islamic Finance. At the very least, the U.S. government evidently hopes to emulate Harvard's success in securing immense amounts of Wahhabi money in exchange for conforming to the Islamists' agenda. Like Harvard, Treasury seems utterly disinterested in what Shariah actually is, and portends.

Unfortunately, such submission - the literal meaning of "Islam" - is not likely to remain confined long to the Treasury or its sister agencies. Thanks to the extraordinary authority conferred on Treasury since September, backed by the $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP), the department is now in a position to impose its embrace of Shariah on the U.S. financial sector. The nationalization of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, Treasury's purchase of - at last count - 17 banks and the ability to provide, or withhold, funds from its new slush-fund can translate into unprecedented coercive power.

Concerns in this regard are only heightened by the prominent role Assistant Treasury Secretary Neel Kashkari will be playing in "Islamic Finance 101." Mr. Kashkari, the official charged with administering the TARP fund, will provide welcoming remarks to participants. Presumably, in the process, he will convey the enthusiasm about Shariah-Compliant Finance that appears to be the current party line at Treasury.

DOHA (AFP) — Muslims should take advantage of the global financial crisis to build an economic system compatible with Islamic principles, influential Sunni cleric Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi said on Sunday.

"The collapse of the capitalist system based on usury and paper and not on goods traded on the market is proof that it is in crisis and shows that Islamic economic philosophy is holding up," said the Egyptian-born, Qatar-based cleric.

"The Western system has collapsed and we have a complete economic philosophy as well as spiritual strength," he said at Sunday's opening of a conference on Jerusalem.

"All riches are ours... the Islamic nation has all or nearly all the oil and we have an economic philosophy that no one else has," Qaradawi said.

He urged Muslims to "profit from the crisis to bring about the triumph of the (Islamic) nation, which holds the spiritual and material resources for victory."

The sixth conference on Jerusalem is being attended by around 300 people representing political parties as well as Muslim and Christian NGOs, from various countries.

It is staged by Al-Quds (Jerusalem) International Institution, which is dedicated to the conservation of the holy city and its sacred places.

Participants include Khaled Meshaal, exiled head of the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, and Ali Akbar Velayati, a top adviser to Iranian spiritual leader Ali Khamenei.

The three-day conference will look at ways of protecting Jerusalem and its holy sites, which participants believe are threatened by Israel.

Threatened by Israel. Israel more than any other nation preserves and protects artifacts and archeological sites and finds with a sacred respect. Arab Muslims, OTOH, systematically destroy ancient sites and artifacts to insure no proof remains of territorial claims.

For a number of years already, there is the selected destruction of Christian/Jewish artifacts which is of course the center for Jewish/Christian religion. World Bank Under Cyber Siege in 'Unprecedented Crisis' FOX News (hat tip Judith)

The World Bank Group's computer network — one of the largest repositories of sensitive data about the economies of every nation — has been raided repeatedly by outsiders for more than a year, FOX News has learned.

It is still not known how much information was stolen. But sources inside the bank confirm that servers in the institution's highly-restricted treasury unit were deeply penetrated with spy software last April. Invaders also had full access to the rest of the bank's network for nearly a month in June and July.

In total, at least six major intrusions — two of them using the same group of IP addresses originating from China — have been detected at the World Bank since the summer of 2007, with the most recent breach occurring just last month.

In a frantic midnight e-mail to colleagues, the bank's senior technology manager referred to the situation as an "unprecedented crisis." In fact, it may be the worst security breach ever at a global financial institution. And it has left bank officials scrambling to try to understand the nature of the year-long cyber-assault, while also trying to keep the news from leaking to the public.

Local Muslims and political activists gathered in defense of those who used to run what had been the largest Muslim charity in the U.S. Imam Mahdi Bray says the defendants gave charity to those in need, as called for by their faith. I wonder if unindicted co-conspirator CAIR will get off this time.  The prosecution must prove  that Holy Land Foundation funds knowingly went to Palestinian charities that would secretly pass it on to Hamas. Federal prosecutors painted the former Richardson charity as a front for Palestinian terrorists. The defense said Holy Land was dedicated to saving lives in a war-torn land.

    

"These men put money in the hands of terrorists," prosecutor Elizabeth Shapiro said during her opening statement. "This case is not about charity."

Five of the former charity's organizers are accused of funneling more than $12 million to the Palestinian militant group Hamas. American authorities declared Hamas a terrorist organization and banned all support for the group in 1995.

    

Ms. Shapiro told jurors Monday that while none of the defendants is accused of any violent acts, they provided cash to Hamas' most important component, the social services wing, which helps the group win support among Palestinians. Providing charity frees up money for suicide bombings, she said.

    

She urged the jurors to do three things during the trial, which is expected to take six weeks: Take notes, think like a terrorist, and listen to all the evidence.

    

"This case is about unraveling deception," Ms. Shapiro said. She added that it's not a referendum on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

One would have thought that leading Democratic senators who claim to be interested in finding other sources of funding to replace American dollars in Iraq, in helping Iraq spend its own money on its own people, and in lowering the price of gasoline for American citizens, would have been all for it. Instead, Senators Chuck Schumer, John Kerry, and Claire McCaskill wrote a letter to Secretary of State Rice asking her "to persuade the GOI [Government of Iraq] to refrain from signing contracts with multinational oil companies until a hydrocarbon law is in effect in Iraq." The Bush administration wisely refused to do so, but the resulting media hooraw in Iraq led to the cancellation of the contracts, and helps to explain why Iraq is doing oil deals instead with China.

Senators Schumer, McCaskill, and Kerry claimed to be acting from the purest of motives: "It is our fear that this action by the Iraqi government could further deepen political tensions in Iraq and put our service members in even great danger." For that reason, presumably, Schumer went so far as to ask the senior vice president of Exxon "if his company would agree to wait until the GOI produced a fair, equitable, and transparent hydrocarbon revenue sharing law before it signed any long-term agreement with the GOI." Exxon naturally refused, but Schumer managed to get the deal killed anyway. But the ostensible premise of the senators' objections was false--Iraq may not have a hydrocarbons law, but the central government has been sharing oil revenues equitably and there is no reason at all to imagine that signing the deals would have generated increased violence (and this was certainly not the view of American civilian and military officials on the ground in Iraq at the time). It is certain that killing the deals has delayed the maturation of Iraq's oil industry without producing the desired hydrocarbons legislation.

Nor is it entirely clear what the senators' motivations were. Their release (available along with their letter to Secretary Rice at the New York Observer quoted Senator McCaskill as follows: "'It's bad enough that we have no-bid contracts being awarded for work in Iraq. It's bad enough that the big oil companies continue to receive government handouts while they post record breaking profits. But now the most profitable companies in the universe--America's biggest oil companies--stand to reap the rewards of this no-bid contract on top of it all,' McCaskill said. 'It doesn't take a rocket scientist to connect these dots--big oil is running Washington and now they're running Baghdad. There is no reason under the sun not to halt these agreements until we get revenue sharing in place,' McCaskill said." So was this about what's best for Iraq and American interests there or about nailing "big oil" in an election year?

Either way, like Barack Obama's asking the Iraqi foreign minister to hold off on a strategic framework agreement until after the American election, it was nothing but harmful to American interests and our prospects in Iraq.

Wall Street's Collapse Enhances Influence of "Islamic Finance" Vehicles (updated)

One impact of the collapse of a number of major institutions on Wall Street this year (a trend which will continue into next year) will be to enhance the influence of "Islamic finance" (or "shariah finance") vehicles which have arisen in the past five years. The prime mover of capital into these vehicles has been the high price of crude oil, which has moved hundreds of billions of dollars of capital towards the Islamic world. I posted on the potential risk of the development of these vehicles in a post here on June 30:

"Financial institutions are especially keen on reaching new markets, and others in the audience foresee the opportunity to engage in outreach and peace-building efforts. But they should take a breath and first survey that subject more deeply before diving into it... (I)t is painfully obvious that Wall Street mavens who lust for better connections and expanded markets in the islamic world often have no clue to the backgrounds, connections, ideologies, or ultimate goals of some of the central officials and organizations involved in many "Islamic finance" or "shariah finance" vehicles. Neither does Wall Street, nor K Street in Washington for that matter, realize that shariah finance vehicles are seen by Islamists as perfect indirect mechanisms for funding the implementation of extremist shariah law and/or violent jihad."

The opportunites and risks were also discussed in the report, "Dealing With Today’s Asymmetric Threat to U.S. and Global Security," which resulted from a seminar in which several of us participated in May, co-sponsored by the National Defense University and CACI International.

"In addition, Islamic finance structures are growing, redistributing the world’s wealth and economic power. In order to regain our status and compete with the Islamic world, the U.S. and the Western World must do business in the Middle East. To be able to help these countries build their infrastructures, and also to avoid shutting out U.S. businesses, it is critically important that the U.S. start thinking about entering this non-traditional marketplace. Other industrialized nations, such as Japan, Korea, and Great Britain, are already working in the Middle East and, in some cases, accepting Islamic financing. While this model is different for us, we must look at it as a good move from a trade perspective, with a potential side benefit of creating U.S. jobs... However, there is growing concern within the U.S. Department of Treasury and elsewhere that Islamic financing vehicles are contributing a portion of funds to other groups that are intent on using radical Islamist approaches and enabling the gradual subversion of Western culture. Therefore, the U.S. must be attentive to sources of Islamist financing in order to establish whether they contribute, directly or

Action: FOX Uses Pro-Israel Extremist to Attack Islamic Financing

CAIR is calling on American Muslims and all those who value interfaith understanding and religious freedom to contact Fox Business Network to express their concerns about a recent interview with a pro-Israel extremist who sought to demonize Islam and Muslims by demonizing Islamic law, or shariah.

In an interview yesterday on Fox Business, Allyson Rowen Taylor linked shariah financing and shariah to terrorism, beheadings and the 9/11 attacks. She also claimed shariah financing, under which Muslims simply seek to avoid dealing in interest, is a “subtle way of creeping Islam into the American culture.” Rowen Taylor seemingly advocated that Muslims invest in companies selling pornography because it is “instrumental to the economy of the United States.”

Unindicted co-conspirator CAIR is lashing out at Americans for patriotism and pride. CAIR is frothing at the mouth at Tyson's submission to .... America.

CAIR uses every means necessary to speed the institution of sharia in America. Why don't they go back to where they got the money from to bring all these lawsuits against the tellers of truth. And why do media outlets give CAIR the imprimatur of legitimacy? Why do they always cite their hate America jihad propaganda. CAIR should be ostracized and made into a pariah - like the KKK? Stop talking to CAIR, they do not represent Muslims, they represent the enemy of our great country, Isalmic jihad. It was only a matter of time before the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) got in on the Tyson’s Labor Day debacle and said hate websites stirred things up and that you, who called and wrote to Tysons and posted many comments all over the world wide web, are Islamophobes!  Remember what I said the other day:

This is from Business Week, where CAIR whacks Tyson’s Food for changing its mind and responding to the majority of workers wishes to reinstate the Labor Day holiday:

Muslim civil rights advocates criticized Tyson Foods, and a union official said the company’s response was disingenuous.

“This wasn’t something imposed. It seems that this backtracking would be the result of the backlash from anti-Muslim hate (Web) sites and Islamophobes on the Internet,” said Ibrahim Hooper, spokesman for Washington D.C.-based Council on American-Islamic Relations.

Stuart Appelbaum, president of the union headquartered in New York, said he was surprised by the reaction to the holiday change.

“I would have thought that people would have been more sensitive and sympathetic to the concern to the members of our community, who want to celebrate their religious faith,” he said. “It’s a little disingenuous to say that they (Tyson) were responding to employee concerns. The proposal came from workers themselves.”

Calling names is how groups like CAIR operate and they find it works for them in Washington among the politically correct uber-educated, but it won’t work out among real Americans!  What CAIR doesn’t get yet is that Americans see through this for what it is and are willing to speak up nonetheless!   Afterall, we aren’t Europe!

Endnote: I wonder if CAIR is looking into that Shelbyville Somali rampage as a hate crime—after leaving mosque Muslim attacks a woman in a Baptist Church—gotta be some hate there.

In Italy, Albanian organized crime gangs appear to control the car trafficking market. One method they employ is to deliberately drive into a car and then when the driver stops to assess the damage to his vehicle, they take the car by force. The cars are then exported to Tirana. A car stolen in central Italy in the morning can be in Albania with its new owner that same evening, Interpol Report.

“The vehicles are not only stolen for their own sake; sometimes they are trafficked to finance other crimes,” according to the international police organization Interpol. Europol’s report describes Europe’s stolen-car industry as a complex network of professionals that includes car thieves, technicians, mechanics, document forgers, drivers, and unscrupulous car dealers. These thieves have learned how to disable immobilizers, locate and eliminate tracking devices, and alter VIN numbers.

ECONOMIC JIHAD:"Get Rid of [Your] American Dollars... and Buy Gold"

The quiet jihad is deadliest. And while I don't believe these bloody clowns can take down our economy I believe we are doing the job for them. Just look at the similarities between modern Western civiliartion and Rome. Rome grew greatest in its period of freedom - as a republic. But all that changed with the growth of government controls (a welfare state coined "bread and circuses"). The growth of taxation and government control destroyed the economy of Rome which allowed the barbarians to take over. The same thing is happening now.

Mujahideen Monitor U.S. Economy, Attempt to Undermine Dollar

Numerous postings on Islamist websites in the past two years reflect the mujahideen's growing interest in the state of the U.S. economy. As was argued in a 2007 MEMRI analysis,(1) many of the jihadists and their supporters have come to view their struggle against the U.S. and the West as an economic war. More specifically, they have come to the conclusion that it is financial, rather than military, losses that will prompt the U.S. to change its policies in the Middle East and elsewhere. Consequently, they emphasize the importance of targeting U.S. interests around the world, and of directing their military jihad primarily at targets that affect the U.S. economy. 
         
"The Dollar Can Expect Two Additional Blows That Will Break Its Back"

The mujahideen's growing interest in undermining U.S. economy is reflected, for example, in an article in the 26th issue of the GIMF's e-magazine Sada Al-Jihad (Echo of Jihad), recently posted on Al-Hesbah and on other Islamist websites.(2) The article, titled "Why the Dollar Collapsed and How America Controls the Price of Oil," discusses the factors that contributed to the devaluation of the dollar in recent years.
   
The author lists among the key factors the economic damage caused by Hurricane Katrina; the losses caused by the September 11 attacks; the cost of the  war on terror and of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq; the U.S.'s persistent trade deficit and growing  government debt; investors' growing faith in the Euro; the recent subprime crisis in the U.S.; and the fact that financial institutions around the world have started to reduce their dollar reserves, thereby flooding the market with dollars and decreasing the  demand for this currency.
   
The author ends his analysis with the following threat: "The dollar can expect two additional blows that will break its back... [namely] the announcement of the return of the Caliphate..." and the reinstatement of the gold standard in international monetary trade.

A recent posting on the Al-Ikhlas forum urges the mujahideen and their supporters to sell their dollars, if they have any, because Al-Qaeda is planning a strike inside the U.S. so that it will undermine the American economy: "[I advise you] to get rid of  [your] American dollars... and buy gold instead... or real estate. The next attack inside the U.S. is imminent... Zawahiri will convey his instructions [regarding this attack] in his next [message]... This attack will put an end to the so-called United States of America and destroy its economy completely... The day of the attack is very near..."(3)
   
Given that it is highly atypical for Al-Qaeda to give prior warning of its attacks, the message is probably an attempt to pressure Muslims to sell dollars, in order to generate pessimism in the dollar market and thus accelerate the drop in its value.

OMG! ANOTHER SITE SUSPENDED!

Always on watch just alerted me that Sharia finance blog has been suspended. It's a wordpress blog not typepad. WTF is going on? I just posted this yesterday.

Frances is right:

1, Dependence upon a large institution makes you subservient to it.
2, Evil forces love large institutions, because they're easy to target and provide large payoffs if you can saddle and bridle them.

In other words, get off TypePad and get an independent site. Your own freedom of expression could well depend on it.

I've got to get to work on this ....... I suggest other bloggers do the same.

UPDATE: Always tells me more. It seems the two leading  sharia finance blogs were suspended this morning. Allyson Taylor's site went missing this morning.  Allyson's  is back now here.

But Sharia finance blog is gone, gone, gone  (for violations of TOS). Always reminds me that  Allyson has had trouble before.  She is banned from Google Alerts!   Always explained, "She wasn't at first, but somebody noticed her heavy-hitting info and instituted a ban."

These investigative bloggers deal in Islamic finance. Were the the posts on the Saudis  behind this?  We know how relentlessly the Sauds try to shut up those that expose their nefarious dirty dealings. Rachel Ehrenfeld could tell you a thing or two.

Bottom line is, this is a freakin nightmare.

The latest Big Apple trophy being coveted by oil-rich sovereign wealth funds is the landmark Chrysler Building.

Sources say the super-rich Abu Dhabi Investment Council is negotiating an $800 million deal for a 75 percent stake in the Art Deco treasure that has defined the Midtown skyline since 1930.

The Chrysler assets would be purchased from TMW - the German arm of an Atlanta-based investment fund that's been eager to cash out of its Chrysler stake.

The deal follows last month's sale of the GM Building and three other Macklowe/Equity Portfolio properties for $3.95 billion to a group of investors including the wealth funds of Kuwait and Qatar and Boston Properties.

As part of the Chrysler deal, sources said the Abu Dhabi Investment Council would also get part of the skyscraper's signature Trylons retail prize next door.

Economic jihad.

Boston Properties closed on its purchase of the GM Building on Monday with investment partners Kuwait and Qatar, and will complete the purchase of three other former Macklowe properties over the next few months.

Developer Harry Macklowe was forced to sell the assets after taking a personal loan on the GM Building and other family assets to raise nearly $7 billion to buy a city package of former Equity Office buildings.

The credit markets tanked right after completing that deal in July and Macklowe was unable to refinance the short-term debt causing him to sell the four buildings to Boston Properties and return the Equity portfolio to lender Deutsche Bank.

I am sad. Really.

$2.8 Billion GM Building Sale the Most Ever Paid for a Single Office Building

Boston Properties expects to execute one or more joint ventures with financial partners. Though it did not name the partners or terms of the prospective JV, they’re believed to be Goldman Sachs, the Qatar Investment Authority and the Kuwait Investment Authority. In announcing the deal, the Boston-based REIT said it expects to own up to about 49%of the properties and provide fee-generating property management and leasing services.
