Today the Web might seem like a free-speech panacea: it has given anyone with Internet access the potential to reach a global audience. As an acknowledgment of its power, Google has given Nicole Wong a central role in the company’s decision-making process about what controversial user-generated content goes down or stays up on YouTube and other applications owned by Google, including Blogger, the blog site; Picasa, the photo-sharing site; and Orkut, the social networking site. Wong and her colleagues also oversee Google’s search engine: they decide what controversial material does and doesn’t appear on the local search engines that Google maintains in many countries in the world, as well as on Google.com. As a result, Wong and her colleagues arguably have more influence over the contours of online expression than anyone else on the planet.

Recently a BBC announcer was sacked/fired for requesting a "non Asian taxi driver" to transport her young unaccompanied 14 year old daughter. (Out of concern for her daughter's fears/mental well being & safety)

Of course, the "racist" club was trotted out by the mainstream media and others to verbally bludgeon Sam Mason for having the audacity to demand an "English driver". But was Sam Mason really exposing her racism or was she reacting, as any mother would, to the facts that there is a ongoing epidemic of muslim taxi driver rapes in the UK? (Note: the media prefers the more vague term "Asian")

Not surprising - the mainstream media, is aiding and abetting these rapes, by refusing to "connect the dots" and report on the clear evidence: The growing numbers of predatory muslim taxi drivers (some posing as taxi drivers)raping British girls and women.

Asian - bogus taxi driver, in his mid-20s, wanted for attempted rape of 18 yr. old girl, Mar 2008

Asian male, aged in his late 20s or early 30s, wanted for brutal rape of 24 yr old woman, Aug 2008

Is Google censoring anti-Obama stories?

Pamela Geller of Atlas Shrugs claims the search engine giant has banned her groundbreaking articles about Obama – a technique many people refer to as "sandboxing."

"There was no warning, no notice, nothing," Geller told WND. "They have basically sandboxed me."

"Sandboxing" happens when Google strips a website's rankings from its search engine results. According to some theories, this happens to new websites when Google puts them into a holding area known as a "sandbox" until the site gains credibility.

However, Atlas Shrugs is not new, and Geller believes her stories have been intentionally suppressed by the Internet giant – especially ones about President-elect Obama. She said her exclusive stories about Obama's birth certificate that once received thousands of hits every day will not come up in Google word searches.

"I was in the top five search results before the story got legs," she said. "These stories drove 12,000 to 15,000 people to my site every day."

But now a November earnings report from shows her Google clicks and revenue flat lining since Nov. 20. Daily page impressions dropped from an average of 20,000 and 45,000 to single digits – overnight. Also, her Google images hits are slowed to only 4,720 since that day, while Yahoo and other search engines list them in the hundreds of thousands.

"The media gives blogs the silent treatment," she said. "The only thing we have is these searches. The Google word search is gone – all gone. When you are in my business, that's how you build readership."

On July 4, Geller featured a story about a board-certified forensic expert who declared Obama's online birth certificate a "forgery" and an "obvious fake." She attributes most of her problems with Google to that report.

"I think that it's the birth certificate story," Geller said. "All of the sudden, my numbers were down by 10,000."

She has also featured reports on Obama's support of Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga and cases of alleged campaign finance fraud involving his campaign. Geller believes Google is censoring her stories because it objects to their content.

"It's a freedom of speech issue," she said. "Who are they to decide what should be searched? They don't like what I'm running so they ban me?"

Geller said she has contacted Google three times, and the company said it has filed "requests for consideration" to put her stories back on Google's search pages.

"They want me to sit this out for six months," she said. "Are they kidding? Based on what?"

Geller said the top Google word searches used to be about Obama's birth certificate. But now she said the searches only return "a bunch of speculating and hearsay" to make the stories appear to be unfounded conspiracy theories.

She believes the censorship could have something to do with Google CEO Eric Schmidt's relationship with the president-elect. According to recent reports, Schmidt will soon be holding a position in the Obama administration.

Geller said she has hired a cyber-crime consulting firm to remove her articles from the search engine's "sandbox" and has asked her readership to help fight censorship with donations.

"Google cannot arbitrarily silence voices of freedom," she said. "Blogs are the last vestige of free speech."

How does Atlas grow? Google search is one critically important way. People find Atlas when they do a word search in google ie "Obama birth certificate", "Obama odinga", "honor killings", "Obama campaign finance fraud"  - stories that I broke or did groundbreaking work on and Atlas is usually in the top five of the search results. That's how folks find my work and generally I keep 15-20% of them as return readers. Regular Atlas readers know the media refuses to cover these stories - building readership is the only way to boost awareness in this increasingly dangerous world.

A couple of days ago I was wiped off google search pages. Yes, if you google Pamela Geller or Atlas Shrugs, I come up, that is not the issue. My work is not there, it does not come up in google's search results. It is critical to building Atlas that I be searchable.Youtube searches are still intact as are images.

Further my google search box (left sidebar) which I use almost constantly to search my site for reasearch (as do my readers) has been dramtically affaected. Input any term, any word in my search box and the same thing comes up - FORBIDDEN.

I have had to hire a separate security/consulting firm to get me back online. It is costly.  I need your help. Anything you could contribute to help offset the cost - it's a lot of hours would be greatly appreciated.

THE GOOGLE OBAMA CONNECTION:

Owen Thomas, editor of the Silicon Valley gossip blog Valleywag, has penned a reasoned argument as to how Google is winning political influence in the wake of this month's presidential election. In the column he wrote, he takes a sharp-tongued look at how CEO Eric Schmidt appears to be trying to win and use influence in the new Washington.

Schmidt is savvy enough to realize that YouTube's growing prominence as a media outlet could help the company become a larger political player -- which is why the site sponsored two campaign debates. Traffic? Come on. YouTube hardly needs the help.

Thomas concludes:

In that light, isn't there something that stinks about handing the president's weekly addresses to a single commercial outlet controlled by a political ally of the president? Obama's YouTube chats amount to a large, unspoken, behind-the-scenes government kickback. Every election has something dirty about it. And there's no question Google won this contest.

UPDATE: Google CEO Could Be Obama's Tech Advisor

Rumor has it that Google CEO Eric Schmidt will be occupying the newly-formed tech advisor position to the president of the United States. Barack Obama created this position just shortly before visiting the Google headquarters during his campaign, and some believe that the reason this happened was because the job was promised to Schmidt.

The head of Google endorsed the Democratic candidate throughout the elections, though the ads the company posted on various sites were mostly Republican. However, Google employees donated far more to Obama's campaign than they did for John McCain – about $487,355, and $20,600 respectively, as estimated by the Wall Street Journal.

Me thinks it was the birth certificate story .... I broke it. I have the forensics.

After checking the online support site, I found out there is NO WAY to access information on WHY a site has been deemed "Forbidden" or HOW to get the problem corrected.

     I phoned google again. The young "no named" woman stated that NO PERSON handles the problem, and NO ONE would take my call. When I told her I had been to the support site, and there was NO WAY to get info or support there, she stated that was my ONLY option.

     The rest of the conversation was something like this:
Me: Someone had to have made a conscious decision to label the info on the Atlas site "Forbidden"
She: I don't know who that person would be, I cannot release any "name" information, and if there is no support online, than there is no support, we don't do "tech" support, and there is no one I can transfer you to who does "tech" support.
Me: Someone made the decision to label the site info "Forbidden", who do I contact to straighten this out?
She: I cannot give you any other information. I don't have any one to transfer you to. Me: So if a site has been labeled "Forbidden", then that decision has been handed down, and there is nothing else that can be done?
She: I would guess so.

Prelliminaries for an assualt on talk radio? letter to the editor

A Monday New York Times editorial discussed radio ads for "loan-modification companies."  In the process they got in a few jabs at talk radio, and specifically WABC talk radio, which hosts Limbaugh, Hannity and Levin.  It sounds to me like a little preliminary rope-a-dope, with a few soft jabs, to get attention and set us up for a few one-two punches before the liberal hope of a knockout punch.  I'm sure Senators Schumer and Bingaman were pleased to read this over their morning coffee.

The three hosts mentioned above are our conservative leadership by default, as there is a complete and utter vacuum of conservative political voices right now on the national stage. The liberal left would love to take advantage of that by shutting down conservative talk radio. They will do it in nicks and cuts like yesterday's editorial.

Charisse: Walking the tolerance walk

I guess I should have known better, as the saying goes, than to pick a fight with a woman who buys her ink by the barrel. Especially one who also has her own Web site.

But pick I did on Washington Times columnist Diana West, whose column continues to run most Saturdays in The Evening Sun. I reminded readers I found her tiresome (something I first observed a year ago when I first threatened to dump her column) and sided with the more recent complaints of a couple of left-of-center readers who have had enough of her anti-Islamic screeds. Unless I heard some reasoned defense from her fans, I threatened, I would stop publishing her column.

Now I know what it's like to be the victim of the right-wing media. Sort of a rhetorical Bush Doctrine: Any ideological transgression is to be met with total retaliation by overwhelming force.

The mass destruction started minutes after West wrote us a letter, and posted it, along with a link to my original column, on her Web site.

West called my column - which generally wrestled with the urge to silence speech we disagree with - "grotesque" and "striking for its mud-slinging crudity." Wow, I didn't think I wrote that well.

In the last few days West's readers have called me a Kool-Aid drinker and a coward with my head in the sand, unfit for editorial duty.

"Your stunning display of ignorance and mindless arrogance towards Diana West represents a milestone in journalistic criticism," begins one fairly typical e-mail. "You should try to read George Orwell's 1984. Oh sorry, it probably has too many big words. Enjoy your new izlamic regime under King Hussein Oungbama"

Hanover Sun Setting on West? Charisse's Charade

What started out slowly, is increasing with disturbing speed. The leading lights of the West - those brave, beleaguered, tenacious truth warriors (Steyn, Levant, Spencer, Bostom et al) are being put upon with fascist force. This is what the leftists do. This is how thugs operate.

West does the work. She investigates and reports the story even when it's "off message" or because it's off message I suspect (it's why I do what I do when no one else will).  The zombies don't like that and notice how they never respond with intellectual debate or discourse. Never. Ad hominem attacks, name calling and smears are their MO. The objective? Kill the messenger.

My respected colleague over at The Washington Times, Diana West, is being smeared and perhaps silenced because she reports the truth, something the media has refused to do. Now it appears that wasn't enough. Now they will crush it, silence it - eliminate it. G-d save us.

I am responding to Editor Marc Charisse’s column about my work, a column I found striking for its mud-slinging crudity. In Charisse’s words, my work, the product of  careful research and reporting, may be summed up thus: West “never met a Muslim she didn’t hate.”  There is no more apt word than “grotesque” to describe such an irresponsible and flippant mischaracterization of my weekly column, which very often grapples with the terrible, largely unspoken reality that Western liberties—freedom of conscience, freedom of religion, freedom of expression, equality before the law, including women’s rights and the rights of non-Muslims—are increasingly threatened by a growing deference to the laws of Islam. To underscore my point, I don’t write about “Muslims.” I write about Islam, the supremacist ideology constructed on laws (sharia) that justify censorship, repression, violence, inequality, and even maiming and murder of those whom the sharia leaves voiceless and powerless: dissenters, Muslim apostates, non-Muslims and women. I write about its agents—violent jihadists as well as soft jihadists, all of whom are working to extend the rule of this law across the non-Muslim world. And I write about politically correct non-Muslims who, as a public point of what is hailed as tolerance and inclusiveness have surrendered their common sense, their courage and, increasingly, their countries to the advance of this Islamic law.

“Pull the plug” on me if you like. But do not slander me or my work as a manifestation of hatred toward individuals. If anything, it is a manifestation of fear—fear that our liberties are not just under assault but have already been diminished, and are destined for still more restriction in that “sharp new subtext” Charisse says the recent presidential election has added “to the subject of Muslims.” Whatever that means.

I’ll take Charisse’s assessment of my work as “confrontational” as a compliment, even if he didn’t mean it that way. After all, what columnist worth his space, from Paul Krugman to Pat Buchanan, isn’t confrontational? But as for branding my ideas as “inappropriate” and “out of place”—well, isn’t that less the language of an American newsroom than an old Soviet politbureau?

It's not illegal, or hate speech.  The O-bot did not threaten violence or smear my race or religion, just threatened to tell the FBI. Call it Scenes from the Obama Revolution Part 2. It's happening quietly and under the radar but there is a pattern to it is a bit similar for it to be completely random. Editors and staff working for local Jewish papers that have run articles critical of Obama have been receiving hostile phone calls.

While critical phone calls are not unusual when you're working on a newspaper, these phone calls are not from random readers, they are coming from lawyers and sometimes doctors who wield influence in the community and may often be advertisers. Typical talking points for these phone calls typically warn against running any further critical articles of Obama "now that he is President", emphasize that most Jews voted for Obama and emphasize that "we must unite behind him" or there may be "consequences to our community."

The phone calls are conducted with a brashness and rudeness that smack of Rahm Emanuel. A not atypical closing section from a phone call received by the editor of a Jewish newspaper not too far away from Obama's home base ran like this.

Caller: Who the hell does he think is writing things like this about Obama?

Editor: He is a respected journalist who is a Holocaust survivor and has been appearing with us for many years.

Caller: As far as I'm concerned he's garbage! You can't run any articles by him again, not until he moderates his position.

Editor: This is a free country, you can have your opinion and he can have his opinion.

Caller: No he can't!

The objectionable article was a fairly mild piece that pointed out Obama's lack of experience. The caller was not some random reader, but a fairly influential local figure. One or two such incidents could be put down to random moonbattery trickling up, but I'm hearing of more and more similar phone calls. And I'm seeing more and more Jewish papers that had formerly criticized Obama "moderating" their position.

To what extent is this an orchestrated campaign to silence opposition in Jewish newspapers, those that at any point did oppose Obama, there is no way to know. But the outcome can nevertheless be seen on many editorial pages, and with Carter talking about Obama's plan to tackle the middle east early on, it can be seen as clearing the decks and intimidating the Jewish press at large into remaining silent.

UPDATE: Let me explain about the google scrub. If you put into the search box Atlas Shrugs my site is there but my work, my articles, posts etc has been scrubbed from search results. According to an IT reader expert, the blacklist came out of Seattle.

Most folks find Atlas  from a google search of keywords or word searches ie "obama birth certificate", "Gaza contributions" "Obama Odinga" - stories I broke or  that first appeared at Atlas.  Those first time readers become regular readers.

Google apparently does not like that.

The FCC has sent letters to some of the nation's most prominent military analysts -- some of them pro-President Bush and pro-war -- suggesting they may have broken the law when they appeared on television stations to comment on and explain the war on terrorism.

The FCC investigation raises the question of whether a Democrat-controlled Congress and White House next year will investigate -- and perhaps criminalize -- all sorts of actions taken by the Bush administration. Who are these guys and could they be MORE WRONG? It's pretty obvious to me that Hassan and co. want to smear these folks because almost half do not belong on this list.

This is the DIRTY DOZEN: there are folks on this list that do not deserve the medal of honor.

First Michelle Malkin (who I hear is wearing this "award" as a badge of honor). It is unearned. Over at Hot Air, Malkin has stopped running Robert Spencer's Blogging the Q'uran series, one of the most important and well researched video scholarship on the Q'uran ever attempted. Why did she kill it?  Seems to me she  is "moderate Islam's" best friend. Give me a fookin break.

The report outlines why each person is included and in Malkin's case they cite her post on  terror donuts. Which is laughable because I broke the story a week before she made it her own. On May 18th I ran: Rachael Ray, Dunkin Donuts Jihad Tool and Debbie Schlussel noted May 28th, that I broke the story. Schlussel was peeved I was being cribbed with no attribution. So Malkin's spot is actually mine. She ran her post May 23rd, five days after I broke it.

If this was a dirty dozen on illegal immigration, Malkin would be the head of the class, but Islam?
