At Al Quds Day in London today.

Remember during the Olympics when Britain celebrated how multicultural we are and how we accept people of all cultures and races? Well, it seems, the party is already over.

Britain’s Jews are made to feel especially uncomfortable. Today, yet again, Hezbollah supporters marched through the streets of London for the Khomeini inspired Al Quds Day. Instead of congregating in Trafalgar Square like last year, they assembled outside the American Embassy.

Hezbollah has been involved in a worldwide campaign to murder as many Jews as possible. It started in Argentina in the early 1990s when both the Israeli consulate and a Jewish community centre were bombed by Hezbollah leaving hundreds of Jews and non-Jews dead and disabled. And recently in Bulgaria Hezbollah blew up a bus full of young Israeli tourists leaving many dead and crippled.

This is all fully in line with Hassan Nasrallah’s statements that Jews are descended from pigs and apes and if the world’s Jews gathered in Israel it would save Hezbollah the effort of going after them worldwide.

Last year Hezbollah activists held up signs proclaiming “Death to Israel”, “Israel Your Days Are Numbered” and “For there to be peace Israel must be destroyed”. Today the disingenuously named Islamic Human Rights Commission, a registered charity, was allowed to repeat the exercise.

And this year the march and rally were advertised on the back of some 400 London buses!

I wasn’t there for very long today. Once again I was quietly trying to film proceedings. No one recognised me until an anti-Ahava activist tipped off stewards from the Islamic Human Rights Commission who jostled me and complained to the police who, in turn, ushered me away.

After the assembled crowd was urged to chant “Zionism must go” and “From The River to the Sea Palestine Will be Free” I saw both Reverend Stephen Sizer and Labour MP Jeremy Corbyn address it.

Leaflets sponsored by INMINDS.co.uk were handed out. They read, inter alia, ”The world ended Nazism and Apartheid, isn’t it time to end the suffering of the Palestinians?” and “Israeli soldiers of the Givati Brigade ordered around 100 people in to the Wa’el Samouni house at gunpoint. They then bombed the house killing 29 people. They then denied emergency crews access to the house for four days, shooting at ambulance drivers if they approached the house. In case anyone mistook the intent of the Givati in this crime, they left a message on one of the remaining walls of the house, daubed in Hebrew it read ‘The Only good Arab is a Dead Arab.’”

One has to ask why does Britain rightly ban groups like Muslims Against Crusades for causing public outrage but not Hezbollah which is actively attempting to murder Jews worldwide. Are Britain’s Jews deemed so dispensable?

A CHILDREN’S play centre was at the centre of a sexism row last night after banning fathers from the premises to avoid offending Muslim women.

Kids Go Wild is Britain’s first toddler group to introduce a women-only policy. Managers defended the decision, claiming that Muslim mothers welcomed it for “cultural reasons”.

But it has angered both Muslims and non-Muslims and led the Equality and Human Rights Commission to investigate after dozens of fathers complained.

One father turned away from the centre branded the move “disgusting” and “sexist”.

He said: “To turn me away because I’m a man is against the Equality Act.”

A poster outside the centre, in the predominantly Asian [media code for Muslim -- Atlas] area of Sparkhill, Birmingham, reads: “Ladies and children only. No boys over nine allowed.” The newly-formed group advertises itself as “the UK’s first ladies and children’s only soft play centre”.

Muslim mother-of-one Ruksana Ayub said: “I understand why women would want a place like this where there are no men. They won’t feel they have to cover up so they might feel more able to relax and to socialise. But I’m quite modern in my outlook, so I also find it quite shocking that men aren’t allowed in. It’s a shame for kids who don’t have a mum.”

Threats, clashes and gatherings of "jeunes" are shaking day-to-day life in certain districts, especially those in Brussels

The period of Ramadan is bringing its share of tensions and incidents in the streets of Brussels. It has only been six days since the month characterised by the Muslim fast has begun. However, the local police in Moelenbeek has already received threats in relation to this period - indirect, it is true - of attacks against public buildings. “These threats involved the possibility of grenades being launched at a police station in Moelenbeek or any other public building such as the town hall or community centre.”

Threats which were taken very seriously. Suddenly, at the end of last week and this weekend, the western police zone raised its state of alert and reinforced its security regime. "We were all on guard. Police numbers were reinforced on the ground as well as technical resources, like cameras, to observe any excesses."

At the time of writing, the regime has nonetheless been lifted, given that the threats have not been acted upon.

In Schaerbeek, the afternoons ends in a rather stormy manner in the Pavillon district between Liedts square and la Cage aux Ours, known as a gathering point for rival gangs. “Every Ramadan, it's the same” , says Ahmed, the manager of the sports shop whose window was struck by gunfire this Monday, around 5.30 pm. "Two stirred-up gangs of 'jeunes' openly fired at one another. Some of them fled into my street. My shop is just collateral damage..."

...Abdelkader was present on the scene on Sunday and confirms that there were indeed clashes. “Two men were driving on motorbike and one of them was firing in the air. Two police cars were there and not one moved...Are they waiting for someone to be wounded before acting?"

In the eyes of the "jeunes" who gather daily in the square, the police are responsible for stoking the tensions. “During Ramadan, we stay in the gange because the fast is very hard physically and so we stick together. But once there are more than five of us, the police do identity checks with an order to disperse. They play on the nerves of the "jeunes" with provocative phrases like My dog is hungry, says one young man.

Share A 14-year-old girl was repeatedly raped at a drug den by a gang of men who treated her with 'indignity and contempt', a jury has heard.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was taken to the house in Brierfield, Lancashire, and allegedly passed around for their sexual gratification.

The 'principal defendant', Mohammed Imran Amjad, 25, bore the 'greatest responsibility for the corruption and abuse of the victim in this case', said the Crown Prosecution Service.

He befriended the girl when she was 12 or 13 and frequently took her for drives in his cars, it is alleged.

Prosecutor Alaric Bassano told Burnley Crown Court: 'It was him who took her on many occasions to the house and him who assisted, encouraged and incited others to rape and sexually assault this girl.

'On one occasion, he raped the girl himself. Over a period of time he subdued her will and coerced her into submission.'

He said three other men raped her and one man subjected her to a sexual assault.

The alleged victim was about 12, the prosecutor said, when her general behaviour deteriorated.

She could be aggressive, disobedient towards her mother, refusing to go to school and staying out late at night, he added.

The girl told police that her mobile telephone number was given to Imran Amjad, known to her as 'Immy', by another, and he called to ask to meet up.

She first met up with him when she was aged 13 and was driven around the streets of Burnley in his car every few days, she said.

Her mother became concerned she spent so much time in his company and confronted him.

Mr Bassano said the girl made no complaint at the time and continued to mix with Immy who, undeterred, went on to commit the numerous offences against her in 2010.

All six defendants are from Brierfield.

ImranAmjad denies abducting a child, rape, engaging in sexual activity with a child, aiding and abetting rape, and witness intimidation.

He is also accused of intentionally encouraging or assisting the rape of the girl by a man known as 'Saj'.

Muslim Homicide Bombers using European Court of Human Rights to try and overturn their convictions

Here's the thing -- this is not a law enforcement issue, let alone a human rights issue. These are war crimes, acts of war. There should be no recourse through the abominable and highly politicized international court of human rights. Human rights are for humans. If the European judges were to accept the argument of these jihadist bombers, they could rule that their human rights were breached and their conviction unsafe. They should have been hanged. This is not just mass murder and unimaginable destruction, this is treason. The objective of the invaders is to overthrow the government in the cause of Islam.

The three devout Muslims, along with Hussain Osman, attempted to blow themselves up on the London transport network just two weeks after the 7/7 jihad bombings in 2005, when four successful bombers killed 52 people on three Tube trains and a bus. The four Muslims tried to cause the same death and destruction with their knapsacks filled with explosives, but the bombs failed to explode.

Now they seek freedom through the human rights courts. Stark raving madness. The world has lost its collective mind.

Three of the July 21 failed suicide bombers are using the European Court of Human Rights to try and overturn their convictions, The Daily Telegraph can disclose.

Lawyers for Muktar Ibrahim, Ramzi Mohammed and Yassin Omar are arguing the terrorists had an unfair trial because evidence from initial interviews should not have been used.

They have also claimed access to lawyers after their arrest was unfairly delayed.

An attempt to overturn their convictions on similar grounds was thrown out by the Court of Appeal in 2008 but the case has now been taken to Strasbourg.

If the European judges were to accept their argument they could rule their human rights were breached and their conviction unsafe.

The three, along with Hussain Osman, are serving at least 40 years after attempting to blow themselves up on the London transport network just two weeks after the 7/7 atrocity in 2005, when four successful bombers killed 52 people on three Tube trains and a bus.

The four men try to mirror the outrage but their rucksacks, packed with explosives, failed to detonate.

At their trial in 2007, they claimed it was a deliberate hoax to protest over the war in Iraq.

The human rights case now centres on evidence taken from so-called “safety interviews” which police first conducted after their arrests.

The interviews are allowed to be carried out in the absence of a lawyer and are based on the need to protect the public.

They enable police, in the circumstances of a potential terror attack, to urgently discover whether other suspects are still at large and whether an attack is still imminent.

The men were told before hand that anything they said could be used in a future trial but their lawyers are now arguing such evidence should have been inadmissible.

The Court of Appeal dismissed those claims and pointed out that the men lied throughout such interviews.

The Sikh community in Luton held a sit down protest outside the Buxton Road police station on Tuesday evening because police did not investigate the report that a young woman from their community was sexually assaulted on Monday by a Muslim man. This is the same pattern of law enforcement ignoring the cores of victims of Muslim sex trafficking gangs. The scores of men in these child sex trafficking gangs were Muslim; the teens and tweens sexually trafficked were non-Muslim. It is not about race or "white girls." What color were the Hindu girls or Sikh girls who were preyed upon? Islam is not a race, it's an ideology. Identifying the men as "Asian" (an insult to actual Asian people) or Pakistani (no Pakistani Christian, Hindi or Sikh men were involved) is continuing the cover-up of the Islamic practice of subjugation, oppression and persecution of non-Muslims under the sharia that sanctions such behavior.

LUTON, UK (May 30, 2012)–Last night over 300 members of the Sikh community from all over the UK gathered at Nanak Darbar Gurdwara in Luton, UK following allegations of sexual assault that took place on a Sikh girl on Monday 28th May.

UK Sikh community has been highlighting for many years the case of grooming by Muslim men on Sikh, Hindu and White girls. This was recently bought to forefront following sentencing of 8 Muslim men from Rochdale, Manchester whom were convicted of sexual abuse of under aged young white girls.

Sikh24 has learnt that on Monday a Sikh girl was walking to pick up friends children from school when she was allegedly bundled into a car by two men. They kidnapped her and took her to the park near Dallow Road where she was raped. Sources have told Sikh24 that the attack on this Sikh Girl was captured on video and pictures.

Bedford Police force came under huge criticism last night following lack of action. The victim of this horrendous sex attack had been victim of grooming and the police had been contacted at least four times by the family but had failed to act.

Yesterday following the community meeting at Nanak Darbar Gurdwara rumors circulated that the Muslim man arrested for this crime was due to be released. The community therefore decided they would peacefully march to local police station and ask for answer as to why the police had failed to take this case seriously.

It was learned by Sikh24 reporters that the Police showed no interest in helping the Sikh community. Having failed to get timely response, the community decided they would block of one of the main dual carriageways outside Luton Police station. A sit down protest took place on main road in heart of Luton to highlight the lack of progress in cases and increased concern at grooming of teenage girls.

Later during the night, the Luton police informed the Sikh community that the release of the accused – Anan Majid Basharat, 19, from Luton was cancelled, however he could be released tomorrow following orders of the Luton Magistrates Court.

And these groups decry the bogus "Asian" label. Real Asian groups were forced to speak out against the smears, libels, and defamation made against them by sharia-compliant media and timid government officials.

Hundreds of members of the Luton Sikh community are protesting outside local police station amid claims police were failing to properly investigate a sex attack on a young woman.

Police said they were negotiating with the protesters staging the “sit down” protest outside the Buxton Road police station.

It comes after a young Sikh woman, who has not been identified, was reportedly beaten and sexually assaulted in the Bedfordshire town by a "Muslim man".

On Wednesday night, Bedfordshire Police confirmed they were “in talks” with the protesters to try and “resolve the situation” amid fears of rising tensions.

Reports suggested that more than 300 locals were involved in the protest because of “lack of action” from police over Monday’s attack.

There were reports that members of the English Defence League were also among the crowd.

Locals reported that the “community … feels the police could do more with regards to the investigation and current situation”.

Concerns were also raised that police were set to release the accused sex attacker amid fears it fuel rising tensions.

Detectives have arrested a man, who has not been identified, in connection with the attack.

On Tuesday night a Bedfordshire police spokesman said: “Police in Luton are currently in talks with members of the Sikh community who are holding a sit down protest outside the Buxton Road police station this evening (Tues May 29).

“Their concerns follow a report that a young woman from their community was sexually assaulted yesterday (Mon May 28).

“The allegation is currently subject of an investigation and all parties involved are being spoken with to establish the facts.”

She added: “One man has been arrested in connection with the allegation and enquiries continue.

“Police are working to resolve the situation this evening with the community leaders.”

Police declined to comment further or disclose the nationality of the arrested man.

Devout Muslim calls for murder of members of Pro-Freedom Political Party in Germany

Muslims are calling for the murder of individuals who demonstrated for free speech and dared to march holding a sign with one of the Danish cartoons, a campaign originating with my SIO colleague Anders Gravers of SIOE (Stop Islamization of Europe, Stop Islamization of Denmark).

Back on May 6th, this same Muslim group (calling for murderous jihad against freedom-loving citizens) rioted in Bonn and stabbed two policemen in their continuing jihad against free speech.

You'll note that the media labels anyone standing against the restriction of free speech and the sharia, the most extreme and oppressive ideology on the face of the earth, as "far right," sometimes going so far as to call freedom lovers "neo-nazis." As for the devout Muslims who issue death threats, stab policemen, and violently riot, the media demands that we respect their savagery, or else we risk being the most inglorious of all inglories, the "Islamophobe."

If they hate free speech so much, why do these tools work in the media?

The media describes holding up a cartoon in a free country as "deliberately provocative," and murderous Muslims as "ultra-conservative," using our words and twisting their meaning into the most absurd and ugly of labels.

Islamist calls for murder of German far-right party: media

A German Islamist is calling for the murder of members of a far-right party that regularly provokes ultra-conservative Muslims using cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed, a newspaper reported.

According to an article due to appear Monday in the Tageszeitung daily, an Islamist from Bonn in western Germany has appeared in a video on an Islamic forum in which he encouraged "the killing of all activists from the Pro NRW party".

Members of the small extreme-right political party held a campaign event using anti-Islamic caricatures ahead of an election in Germany's most populous state North Rhine-Westphalia on May 13.

In his appeal, the Islamist urged the collection of personal information on Pro NRW members, including their home addresses and work schedules, with the goal of attacking them.

"We take this message seriously," an Interior Minister spokesman told the newspaper, which said the man had broadcast messages for the "Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan".

Several police were injured during recent clashes between Islamists and Pro NRW members.

The right-wing activists have for several years campaigned against the construction of mosques and have in some protests marched with cartoons of Mohammed that were initially published by a Danish newspaper in 2005, leading to a wave of violence and anger across the Muslim world.

Islam strictly prohibits the depiction of any prophet as blasphemous.

Rochdale grooming investigation: two more men arrested Guardian (thanks to David)

Arrests follow jailing of nine men over child sexual exploitation earlier this month

Two men have been arrested in connection with the continuing investigation into child sexual exploitation which led to the jailing of nine men in Rochdale earlier this month.

The arrests are the result of information given by one of the five girls who gave evidence at Liverpool crown court in the case of sexual abuse of children and young women in Rochdale, Greater Manchester.

The court heard the girl was also abused from the age of 15 by four men who she knew only by their nicknames.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester police said: "Two men have been arrested in connection with an ongoing investigation into child sexual exploitation in Rochdale, which led to the jailing of nine men. Both men, aged 33, from the Rochdale area were arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and rape.

"They have now been released on bail pending further inquiries."

The inquiry is separate to a suspected second child grooming case in the town – pre-dating the Liverpool crown court case – which concerns one of 47 women questioned by police.

Nine men, aged between 24 and 38, who were arrested on suspicion of sexual activity with a child from 2005 are on bail pending further inquiries.

Earlier this month, eight men from the British Pakistani community and an Afghan received jail sentences of between four and 19 years. The judge said they treated their victims "as though they were worthless and beyond any respect".

The trial in Liverpool heard the five girls – aged between 13 and 15 – were given alcohol, food and money in return for sex and were sometimes subjected to violence. The offences happened in and around Rochdale in 2008 and 2009.

The men were convicted of conspiracy to engage in sexual activity with children under the age of 16 and other sexual offences including rape and trafficking for sexual exploitation.

Mohammed Hasnath, 19, admitted four counts of having copies of al Qaeda's Inspire magazine on his computer memory stick.

He was also given a one-month concurrent sentence for breaching a conditional discharge imposed last year for six offences of criminal damage involving the posters.

Hasnath, of Poplar, east London, had also been dealt with by the court for sticking "gay-free zone" posters in Brick Lane.

Bearded Hasnath has been in custody for 206 days and is likely to be released in the next week, the Old Bailey heard.

While on remand in Belmarsh, a prison officer heard prisoner Mohibur Rahman, who pleaded guilty to having terrorist literature in the stock exchange bomb plot trial, apparently encouraging him.

Alexander Chalk, prosecuting, said Rahman was overheard talking through pipes to Hasnath in the next cell, telling him: "When you get released, stay squeaky clean and then you can carry on our work."

Hasnath was arrested riding a bicycle in East India Dock Road, near his home, and arrested under the Terrorism Act after posting material to a YouTube site cross-referenced to his non-alcoholic perfume sales site.

Hossein Zahir, defending, said Hasnath had since been moved to Woodhill prison where he had requested to take part in a de-radicalisation programme.

(JTA) -- Two U.S. lawmakers and the Anti-Defamation League called on the International Olympic Committee to have a moment of silence for the Munich 11 at the London Olympics this summer.

Reps. Nita Lowey and Eliot Engel, both New York Democrats, made the request in a letter to IOC President Jacques Rogge.

"The massacre of the Munich 11 was a jarring reminder that the Olympic Games -- long a symbol of international cooperation and camaraderie -- are not wholly divorced from the hatred and intolerance that still exists throughout the world," they wrote. "We believe that a minute of silence at this year’s games would be a powerful reminder that such terrible acts of violence will not go unremembered, and that all those witnessing the Opening Ceremonies must continue to work toward a world where people of any nation, race, or religion can live free of fear."

The letter noted that more than 2 billion viewers watched the opening ceremonies of the Beijing Olympic Games four years ago. Holding a moment of silence at the London Games, the lawmakers wrote, is "a unique opportunity to send a message that can literally reach every corner of the globe." 

Lowey and Engel said they plan to introduce a resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives calling on the IOC to honor the Munich 11 -- the Israeli athletes and coaches who were murdered at the 1972 Munich Olympics by the Palestinian terrorist group Black September.

The Jewish Community Center of Rockland County, N.Y., a member of the JCC Association, and Ankie Spitzer, the widow of Israeli fencing Coach Andrei Spitzer, initiated an online petition in mid-April seeking a moment of silence at the London Games that has garnered more than 25,000 signatures from around the world.

"The 11 murdered athletes were members of the Olympic family; we feel they should be remembered within the framework of the Olympic Games," Spitzer wrote in a letter accompanying the petition.

Emmanuelle Moreau, the IOC's head of media relations, told The Jerusalem Post last week that there would be no moment of silence.

Muslims Riot in Bonn, Two Policemen Stabbed

Muslims violently rioting again today in Germany, fresh on the heels of last week's Muslim riots against free speech. Saturday's riots were again protesting free speech. Cartoon jihad.

Below is an account of the riot which took place today in Bonn.  According to the WDR (Westdeutscher Rundfunk) the two policemen who were stabbed by Muslim rioters do not have life threatening injuries.

While this video appears on at least one other site, I have not yet been able to confirm from other sources that there was in fact shooting.  However, we know for sure that the police ended the PRO-NRW demonstration on that basis.

On the bustling, cosmopolitan streets of Southall, Muddassar Arani cuts an unassuming figure in her hijab. But this bespectacled middle-aged woman is in charge of a legal empire that has become a mecca for terrorist suspects. Arani and her firm Arani and Co have represented scores of Muslims detained under terror laws, bringing in several million pounds in legal aid fees.

From an anonymous office above a cash-and-carry, she has defended an array of high-profile cases, displaying a forensic knowledge of extradition laws. They include Sheikh Abu Hamza, the hook-handed cleric from Finsbury Park mosque - who has kept her busy with his long fight against extradition to an American supermax prison. She is also defending a British detainee in Guantanamo Bay, and the family of an alleged suicide bomber.

Meanwhile, Gareth Peirce, the veteran of Irish republican legal battles, this week pulled off a breathtaking coup against the Home Office by filing an eleventh-hour appeal to Europe on behalf of her widely demonised client, Abu Qatada.

To the bewilderment of MPs, Peirce’s legal team wrong-footed the Home Secretary Theresa May, and delayed the extremist Muslim cleric’s deportation. He could even be released on bail again. Peirce headed a team of expensive lawyers, including two barristers from Doughty Street Chambers, Raza Husain and Edward Fitzgerald – the husband of Lady Antonia Fraser’s daughter, Rebecca.

One commentator described Peirce as the ''go to’’ female lawyer-of-choice ''for every accused jihadist and IRA suspect”.

So who are the legal teams behind the religious zealots and terror suspects? And most importantly – who is paying for their services, and how much?

While nobody is questioning the motives of Miss Arani or the team representing Abu Qatada, a well-informed source told The Daily Telegraph that questions are being asked about whether some other firms in their wake are using “ambulance chaser’’ tactics. ''The feeling in Whitehall is that these lawyers are actually encouraging terror suspects to take these cases against the Government because there is money to be made,” he said.

“Don’t forget that an al-Qaeda instruction manual captured in 2001 showed that Islamic jihadists are trained to understand and manipulate Western-style legal systems.’’

There are a number of firms who have cornered the ''war on terror’’ market, according to the Legal Services Commission.

At a conservative estimate, based on Freedom of Information releases and parliamentary answers, The Daily Telegraph believes that the bill has topped £110 million over the last decade. The latest figures from 2010 show that Arani & Co earned £4.8 million over six years. They were followed by Birnberg Peirce & Partners, who earned £4.4 million. Imran Khan & Partners took £3.6 million, while the Leeds-based Yasmin & Shaid were paid £3 million. Christian Khan earned £2.2 million. A host of smaller firms also earned millions.

It is believed that the legal aid bill for six prosecutions over a plot to blow up transatlantic airliners in August 2006 hit £30 million. The men were found guilty in July 2010, after the most recent figures were collated. The protracted case of Abu Qatada has cost taxpayers an estimated £1.5 million in legal fees and benefits.

Merkel ally says "Islam not part of Germany"

Tonight on Michael Coren's television show, The Arena, I discuss this latest stealth jihadi initiative in Germany on behalf of devout Muslims (salafists) who have announced that they will distribute 25 million qurans in Germany. "A quran in every German household." The security agencies are worried.

This is a naked attempt to convert Germans to Islam. But it is also an attempt to show Germans that Islam is among them for good, whether they like it or not. Salafist groups have been tied to terror again and again, and so there is a hint of menace to this -- it isn't just the Gideons distributing Bibles. In the Hadith Muhammad says first invite the unbelievers to accept Islam. If they refuse, invite them to submit to Islamic rule as dhimmis. If they refuse that also, go to war with them. So the Salafis are inviting the Germans to accept Islam. Will they go to war with them if they refuse? It's a distinct possibility.

Head of German Chancellor Angela Merkel's conservative bloc in parliament, Volker Kauder, told the Passauer Neue Presse on Thursday that "Islam is not part of our tradition and identity in Germany and so does not belong to Germany." The remarks are sure to stir controversy as the government hosts a conference to improve the integration of Muslims.

A row over whether an ultra-conservative Salafist Muslim group should be allowed to hand out millions of free German translations of the Koran to non-Muslims had already raised tensions and threatened to overshadow the conference.

Adding to her remark, Kauder stressed that "Muslims belong to Germany. As state citizens, of course, they enjoy their full rights." Germany is home to some 4 million Muslims, about half of whom have German citizenship. Many came from Turkey in the 1960s and 1970s and their hard work contributed to Germany's post-war economic miracle. Germany's total population is about 80 million.

While some people of Turkish origin have risen to prominent political and public positions, many others live in their own communities and studies show many youngsters struggle to learn German properly, limiting their chances of finding work.

In response to concerns about radicalization and aware of the potential boost a well-qualified cohort of young Muslims could give to Europe's biggest economy, Merkel set up forums six years ago to improve integration, a highly charged issue.

MPs: We speak up for Israel - and get death threats JC

MPs who have spoken in support of Israel have been forced to limit the information they make available to constituents and take other security precautions after being sent death threats or abusive messages by post, by phone or online, a JC investigation has revealed.

Two years after Labour's Stephen Timms was stabbed by a radicalised [Muslim]  student, security remains a key concern, especially for MPs who are vocal about controversial topics such as Israel - and suffer threats as a consequence. Two weeks ago Conservative MP John Howell was forced to seek police protection after becoming the target of a campaign by pro-Palestinians.

Louise Ellman, Labour MP for Liverpool Riverside, has been dealing with death threats for a decade. The problem has worsened in recent years and she now receives emails as well as letters. "It's very unpleasant and I am concerned - so I take advice from the police and the CST," said Mrs Ellman. "You are vulnerable as an MP, people approach you and you're in public places."

Lee Scott, Ilford North MP, said he dealt with death threats and abusive communications "on a fairly regular basis", including a recent email that said he should be "stoned to death".

"At one stage I would do my surgeries with just one other person present. I don't do that any more," he said. He also no longer posts details of his surgeries in the local library and during the last election campaign had to be accompanied by police officers for security reasons.

Their cases are by no means unique. Former Labour MP Andrew Dismore also received death threats.

Mr Dismore, along with Mr Scott, Mike Gapes and Denis MacShane were all targeted at the last election by Muslim group MPAC for their support of Israel. Richard Harrington, now MP for Watford, also faced hostility during his campaign, while in October 2011 members of the now-banned group Muslims Against Crusades stormed Finchley and Golders Green MP Mike Freer's constituency surgery shouting that he was a "Jewish homosexual pig".

Several others, including Harlow MP Robert Halfon, reported receiving abusive communications in light of public comments about the Middle East – many of them anonymous and online – and those who regularly defend Israel, including Harrow East MP Bob Blackman, said they could "see it coming".

"Whenever I say anything about Israel I get some really nasty messages and I've had lots of nasty stuff written on blogs," said Mr Halfon.

Not long ago somebody attempted to pour petrol through the letter box of Mr Blackman's constituency office and light it. Although police have not yet ascertained the motive, the MP said that it is a reminder that "there are people who will pursue threats".

He only publicises details of his movements after the event. "You have to be careful, because it only takes one unhinged individual," he said.

Ibrahim Abou Nagie does not exactly look like the epitome of an Islamist hate preacher.  The Cologne businessman with Palestinian roots dresses mostly in Western apparel, with plain shirt or a polo shirt, over which is a bright sports jacket.  The beard of the 47-year old is close cropped; and when he preaches, he speaks softly and deliberately. 

All in all Ibrahim Abou Nagie is no Islamist bearing the appearance of a Pierre Vogel.  But nonetheless the intelligence service [der Verfassungsschutz] classifies him as a dangerous man.  The Palestinian born man is regarded as one of the most influential preachers of Salafism, that radical current in Islam which is regarded as a springboard in Islamist terrorism.  Who does not believe in Allah and his prophet lands after death directly in Hell, so goes the core message of the Salafist preacher.

But currently Ibrahim Abou Nagie is less in the mood for preaching.  He has much to do, for he has big plans.  Abou Nagie wants to save the German people from eternal hell fire.  All non-Muslims of the land should convert to Islam, to the one true faith in Allah and his prophet.  Unbelievers are supposed to become brothers and sisters in faith.

In order to achieve this Abou Nagie initiated the project “Read!” in October 2011.  The goal of the unprecedented campaign is to distribute the Koran in German translation to non-Muslims without cost.  The proclaimed target: 25 million copies.  Or as project organiser Abou Nagie says: A Koran in every German household.

“My dear brothers and sisters: how can we sleep peacefully when we know that our neighbours, when they die, will roast for all eternity in Hell”, warns Abou Nagie the German Muslim.  It is necessary to save souls, to spread Allah’s religion and for this good deed to earn brownie-points for Paradise.

300.000 Koran-Translations Distributed

Never before has the missionary zeal of the German Islamist-scene taken on such dimensions as in the past weeks.  The Salafists organised more than 100 information stands in countless cities; above all, in the states of North Rhine-Westphalia, Lower Saxony, Hesse, and Hamburg.

The procedural method of the Islamist missionaries is as simple as it is effective: German Muslims are called upon to buy a (red-covered) copy of the Koran in order to finance thereby the distribution of an additional (blue-covered) copy of the Koran.  The public distribution takes place at information stands on the street and in market places.  In addition any interested party can order a Koran from a website without charge.

The plan appears to be taking off.  According to statements made by Ibrahim Abou Nagie, over 300,000 German Koran-translations have already been distributed, not only on the street and by mail, but also in prisons, schools and even kindergartens.  Abou Nagie has already ordered ten thousand additional copies.  The holy book of Islam is being distributed in a glut over the land.

Actions in 35 Cities

This weekend, precisely at the Christian Easter-tide, the “Read!”-Project passes over to a new phase.  The Salafists are beginning a frontal offensive against the unbelievers and those of different creeds.  On Saturday, Koran-distributions are taking place simultaneously in 35 cities; among others, in Hamburg, Cologne, Konstanz, Frankfurt am Main, Dresden, Osnabrück, Hannover and in Berlin.  It has to do with nothing less, warns the project organiser, than saving fellow human beings from eternal damnation and hell fire.

However German security officials are not so inclined to view the currently ongoing Koran-project as a selfless operation for spiritual rescue.  “Read!” is much more a recruiting tool for fundamentalists, according to security circles.

Outwardly, the campaign appears to be an image makeover of the radical scene to a more open and grassroots appeal: Along such lines roughly as: the bearded men in their long robes leave the courtyard-Mosques; they appear populist, friendly and transparent. 

Perhaps also for that reason - and differently than in the past - no books lay on the tables of the Salafist information stands about the role of women or the superiority of Sharia law as opposed to Democracy.  Only the Holy Book is distributed.  And something else gives rise to surprise: the Koran translation is surprisingly temperate.  The German version, after the translation by Mohammed Ibn Ahmad Rassoul with commentary by the German convert Frank von Bubenheim, is to be read rather “uncritically”, according to the Office for the Protection of the Constitution: Fundamentalists with a cosy approach.

 Ultimately it has to do with Salafism 

The Berlin Office for the Protection of the Constitution warns: behind the campaign, however, stand radical Muslims with an extremist world view and a partly militant ideology.  “Salafism is strongly supportive of radicalisation and is ‘conveyed’ by its supporters as putatively ‘the one true Islam’”, says the Berlin Office for the Protection of the Constitution.

To be sure, not everyone who takes a Koran home with him also converts to Islam; and not everyone who converts automatically becomes an extremist and wishes for a Taliban-state with Sharia laws.  But with Abou Nagies Koran-Project, the fertile soil for extremist ideas grows.  The danger from those, who in their religious zeal become militant fanatics, grows.

“The objective of this campaign is to bring interested parties into contact with the Salafist scene and to influence them in accordance with their politically extremist ideology”, a woman speaking for the Berlin Office for the Protection of the Constitution says to “Welt Online.”  Ultimately it is not about the spreading of Islam, but rather of Salafism. 

Pure proselytization is however only an aspect of the “Read!”-Project, thinks the Islamism-expert Claudia Dantschke from the Centre of Democratic Culture (ZDK) in Berlin.  The German Salafist-Scene has been splintered for years.  There is strife between the preachers over the interpretation of certain Koran verses, above all when it has to do with armed Jihad. 

The Koran-Project is for that reason probably also to be judged as Abou Nagies attempt to put himself at the head of the disunited scene with an action which is endorsed by everyone.  With the Koran-distribution-action he obtains support from the Frankfurt group “DawaFFM” or the Solingen “Millatu-Ibrahim”-Movement.

Financing Remains Mysterious

Unperturbed by critics and authorities, Ibrahim Abou Nagie and his following will continue to work in the next few days to bring Germany closer to the Koran.  For weeks the Cologne preacher has been touring through the Federal Republic and promoting his project in mosques.  Everyone can participate, so Abou Nagie, whether by donation or by self-organised info-stands.

How exactly the financing of the Koran-Campaign proceeds remains a mysterious.  If one believes Abou Nagie, then it is above all Muslim women and Muslims from the Turkish community who donate to “Read!”.  In Bahrain, wealthy Arabs would have offered to finance the German Koran-Project.  He rejected the sponsors from the Near East, so says Abou Nagie: “They wanted to register their names”.

I have just returned to London, where I have lived since I was 11. I have been away for four years, living as an ethnic minority in a monocultural part of the world, amassing a host of stories to tell to disbelieving friends. On the whole, I am glad to return. I shan't miss some locals' assumptions that, being a white woman, if I was outside after dark, as I occasionally was, usually to walk the few metres between my house and the church, I must be a prostitute eager to give them a blow job. I shan't miss the abuse my priest husband received: the daubing of "Dirty white dogs" in red paint on the church door, the barrage of stones thrown at him by children shouting "Satan". He was called a "f***ing white bastard" more than once, though, notably, never when in a cassock. I will also not miss the way our garden acted as the local rubbish dump, with items ranging from duvets and TV sets, to rats (dead or twitching) glued to cardboard strips, a popular local method of vermin control to stem the large numbers of them which scuttled between the rubbish piled in gardens and on pavements. Yes, I am very glad to have left Britain's second city.

For four years, we lived in inner-city Birmingham, in what has been a police no-go area for 20 years. We know that because some plain-clothed cops told us when they asked to use our vicarage as a stake-out to bust drugs rings that pervade the area. Having heard a parishioner's tales of what his neighbours did to him when he was wrongfully suspected of having grassed up a cock-fighting ring, we refused, explaining that we had to live here, they didn't. Even during this time we saw the area change. When we arrived, the population was predominantly Pakistani. Now Somalis are there in equal number. Most of the run-down Irish pubs were turned into mosques during our time. 

As a woman, it was difficult for me to gain many first-hand impressions of the Muslims. I was generally ignored by both men and women, and on the rare occasion that I had to interact, when for example a car was parked illegally and blocking my gate, I was addressed as if inconsequential. My husband, however, faithfully reported conversations which you may find somewhat alarming. One of our favourite dinner-party pieces is this: opposite our vicarage there is a "library" which has some computers, some burkas and occasionally tracts that say offensive things about Jews and Christians. My husband did his photo-copying there, and got on rather well with everybody. One day he was chatting to a man with a passing resemblance to Lawrence of Arabia, who had just arrived from Antwerp — one of an increasing number of Muslims who are arriving here with EU passports. He asked him why he had come to Birmingham. He was surprised at the question: "Everybody know. Birmingham — best place in Europe to be pure Muslim." Well, there must be many places in Europe where Muslims are entirely free to practise their faith, but I suspect there are few places in which they can have so little contact with the civic and legal structure of a Western state if they choose. It seems to be particularly easy to "disappear" if that is their intention. A parishioner once described a lorry pulling up outside his house, the side opening to reveal stacked mattresses full of sleepy, and presumably illegal, immigrants, who staggered out into broad Brummie daylight. We heard tales of how houses are exchanged for cash payments in our area. An untaxed car was once clamped by a frightened-looking official at 8am, but within hours the owner of the vehicle had organised the clamps to be sawn off, and he sped away.

Another instance of separation from the Western world is revealed in the following: my husband frequently chatted to a neighbour who could be described as one of the more questioning Muslims, and who has often provided an insight into the locals' mindset. Even this man, however, believes what the whole community thinks: the 9/11 planes were organised by Jews. Everybody knows there were no Jewish people in the World Trade Centre that day, as they had been tipped off. Oh, and the Mumbai terrorists had been kidnapped and brainwashed by Indian people. The tendency towards denial is strong. When my husband mentioned the "dirty white dogs" graffiti to a local Muslim, the response was, "One of your people did it." I have to say that the police's response was no better when the local Methodists complained about the same thing. They chose not to believe it had happened, since we had removed all sign of it with the buckets of anti-graffiti chemicals we had stocked since we arrived. They asked, somewhat pathetically: "Are you sure it was racist?"

To a London reader, born and bred with multiculturalism, I know that my stories may come across as outlandish and exaggerated, and that I must surely be a BNP voter — I have observed people's expressions as they have listened to my tales of life in Brum. When I recently told a friend how a large Taliban flag fluttered gaily on a house near St Andrew's football stadium for some months, her cry of "Can't you tell the police?" made me reflect how far many of our inner cities have been abandoned by our key workers: our doctors and nurses drive in from afar, the police, as mentioned before, have shut down their stations and never venture in unless in extremis — they and ambulance crews have been known to be attacked — even the local Imam lives in a leafier area.

Alzheimer's sufferer Dorothy Griffiths, 87, was found sitting down after staff heard a bang and a carer went to the office for help to lift her.
But agency nurse Abdul Bhutto, who was in charge, said they would have to wait.

Carer Zoe Shaw told the Sheffield hearing: "It took between five and ten minutes because he was praying upstairs in the office on his prayer mat. A staff member told me we had to wait for him to finish."

An ambulance was not called for nearly four hours after Mrs Griffiths fell from bed and cut her head and suffered a gash to her hip at the privately-run Valley Park Nursing Home in Wombwell, near Barnsley.

She died later in hospital. Mr Bhutto failed to appear at the inquest and a summons had to be issued for him to attend the resumed hearing later in the year.

Assistant deputy coroner Donald Coutts-Wood said he had contacted him during a recess and he denied being the duty nurse that night and said he had been there on a course.

Mrs Griffiths, the widow of former Barnsley footballer Steve Griffiths, who used to live in Wombwell, had been a resident at the home since 2009 and died last November.
