Despite the fact that Angolan officials are disputing reports that they banned Islam, the rumor went 'round the world like wildfire. When I first heard about it, I wrote, "Surrounded by countries under the bloody siege of jihad, this is not surprising. Angola is taking steps at self-preservation on a continent where countries are getting swallowed whole by jihadists enforcing the sharia. It's a defensive move."
I thought Angola could very well be the next great destination for freedom-loving people of conscience and believers of equality of rights before the law. A land free of jihad and sharia? They won't be able to keep freedom-lovers out.
Apparently word of the ban hit the devout Muslim world. And jihadis are calling for a boycott of Angola. Savages in Gaza are quoted as ululating, "this is a war on Islam and humanity." As for Islam's war on religious minorities, women, Christians, Bahias, Hindus, et al -- creed apartheid. gender apartheid -- well, never mind.
A boycott by jihadis? Brilliant!
"Islamic Jihad calls for boycott of Angola amid claims of Islam ban" By Maan News 27/11/2013(MaanImages)GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- The Islamic Jihad movement in Palestine on Wednesday called for an economic and political boycott of Angola amid reports that the country had banned Islam and started destroying mosques.
During a protest against Angola's alleged decision, Islamic Jihad leader Omar Fawra urged governments to sever all ties with Angola.
"This is a war on Islam and humanity," Fawra said. "We raise our voice high against this decision."
Following a worldwide media stir claiming that the Angolan government had destroyed mosques and banned the religion of Islam, Angola denied the reports Wednesday.
The country's ministry of culture said that any closures of mosques were due to lack of necessary land titles and building permits, Al Jazeera reported.
Oil-rich Angola has attracted thousands of immigrants, many of whom are Muslim, in the last decade.
