Sikh holy man Bhupinder Singh Bhurji at our 911 rally against the Ground Zero Mosque
Muslims have persecuted and slaughtered Sikhs for over 550 years. Our international freedom coalition has broad support from the Sikh and Hindu communities. A Sikh human rights activist, Jaswant Singh, has written this article exclusively for Atlas:
Sikh Opposition to Islamization
Sikhism is the world's 5th largest global religion. Sikhism advocates the existence of one God and emphasizes individual rights. Sikhism also believes that God has nothing to do with religion and is concerned with human deeds. One can follow any religion and be equally loved by the creator.
Sikhs, under Islamic rule, suffered enormously. The ninth Guru of the Sikhs, Guru Teg Bahadur, was martyred by the Islamic ruler of the time because of his desire to protect ordinary Hindus' right to practice their religion freely. Islamic law, called Sharia, requires that "non-believers" be proselytized or executed.
The tenth Guru's children, aged 7 and 9, were buried alive in a wall for refusing to accept Islam. Sikh history is replete with many such examples of religious oppression.
Sharia law hasn't changed today and indeed threatens civilization if accepted and practiced. Under Islamic law, women have no rights. They can't drive, can't dress as they please, need a male chaperone to accompany them and are, in general, considered second class citizens. Homosexuals are summarily executed. Apostates are executed. Those who have a pre-marital relationship are flogged publicly. Under, such a system, man's right to his own life, liberty, property and the pursuit of happiness are viciously suppressed and violated.
Islamists today call for the destruction of Israel for occupying "Muslim lands". The historical fact is that Jews occupied either unclaimed land in Palestine or bought land from the residents of Palestine.
The Islamists consider India a foe because she is a pluralistic society that separates state from religion and follows secular objective laws. India has done no harm to Islam. Ever.
US forces did not "occupy Muslim lands" in Saudi Arabia. The Saudi king wanted US forces to protect his country from being attacked by Iraq. (I don't believe US forces should be helping out people). But just because US foreign policy was not selfish doesn't mean one can commit brutal terrorist attacks that killed innocent men and women on 9/11.
In sum, Islamists are not attacking these nations because of a political grievance. They are attacking these nations because they stand in the way. They stand in the way of Islamic rule by Sharia. Indeed, every single Al-Qaeda Islamic terrorist says this on tape.
Sikhs must stand firm in this fight against Islamic totalitarianism. Remember the struggle of the 10th Guru, Guru Gobind Singh, and his heroic life. Remember the battle of Chamkaur in which he fought for religious freedom, human justice and against Islamic tyranny.
As believers in a religion that respects the rights of man, Sikhs must rally around the desire of all nations to be rid of the bane of Islamic totalitarianism.
