Defecting Afghan Soldier Tells Taliban Magazine: 'My Mother Gave Me Permission [To Join Afghan Army] Only On Condition That I Kill Americans'
A Taliban magazine recently interviewed an Afghan National Army (ANA) soldier who claimed to have killed more than 50 NATO troops in an August 7, 2012 attack on a U.S. base in Shewak district of Afghanistan's Paktia province. According to independent media reports, at least one soldier was killed in the attack.
In the interview, the defecting soldier identified himself as Saeed Rasool, son of Saeed Gul from the Bazmay village of Geza district in Afghanistan's Uruzgan province. The interview was published in Morchal, the Taliban's Pashtu-Dari language monthly magazine.
"My Mother, Who Sent Me To The National Army To Kill The Americans, Was Very Happy And Prayed, 'Allah Almighty Be With You!' Afterwards, [I] Joined The Taliban, With Whom I Had Prior Contact"
Question: "Kindly share with us information about your job. When and where you served?"
Answer: "I was a soldier of the 3rd Group of 6th Kandak, 1st Lewa, Thunder Corps [of Afghan National Army] and served for a year and a half in the army in the Shewak district of Paktia."
