The Pakistani Taliban released a video showing what appeared to be the severed heads of a dozen soldiers today as security officials said 15 troops were missing following fighting with insurgents.
The clashes on Tuesday came as part of a Pakistan army operation to repel Taliban militants who had crossed over from Kunar province in Afghanistan last Friday and occupied the village of Batwar in the Bajaur tribal district.

'At least 15 of our soldiers are still missing,' a senior security official told AFP.
Another security official said 'more or less' that many soldiers were missing but declined to give the exact total.
Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) spokesman Sirajud Din sent AFP a video showing a militant commander posing with 12 heads arranged on the ground which he claimed were from soldiers they had killed.

Khamenei Calls Israelis ‘Ferocious Zionist Wolves’ at Iran-Hosted NAM Summit
Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, speaking Thursday at the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit host by his country, called Israelis “ferocious Zionist wolves who digest the Palestinian people.”
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon, who controversially decided to attend the summit amid the Islamic Republic’s growing nuclear program and routine calls for the Jewish state’s destruction, defended Israel in a statement before the start of the summit, but did not specifically mention Iran.
“Claiming that Israel does not have the right to exist or describing it in racist terms is not only wrong but undermines the very principle we all have pledged to uphold,” Ban, who also did not leave the room in protest during Khamenei’s speech, said.
Martin Nesirky, Ban’s spokesman, said the secretary-general conveyed to Khamenei and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in separate meetings that their anti-Semitic diatribes were unacceptable. Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon, however, said Ban’s decision to attend the NAM summit held greater significance than his words.
“Ban’s contention that he could only deliver a strong message to Iran in Iran doesn’t hold water—his message has been watered down by his very presence there,” Ayalon told Israel Radio.”If he wanted to deliver a strong message, he could have done it best by not attending.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the summit, which drew more than 120 countries to Iran, “a disgrace and a stain on humanity.”

A pharmacist who made crude remarks to three of his female colleagues has escaped with a warning after a panel heard he came from a 'restrictive Muslim background' and was unaware of the offence his conduct had caused.
Khalil Jamil asked one of the women about her favourite love-making position and quizzed another about the mating habits of her horses - but a professional panel ruled his behaviour was not sexually motivated.
The General Pharmaceutical Council panel found Jamil acted inappropriately by making the comments and standing too close to his assistants.
However, they accepted that his background in a strict Muslim community meant he was unfamiliar to working in such an open environment with women and his basic social skills meant he lacked understanding of appropriate conduct.
As the remarks were not sexually motivated the panel cleared Jamil of misconduct and gave him an official warning.
It also took into consideration the fact that Jamil had remedied his actions by attending a 'dignity at work' course.
Panel chairman Patrick Malmo QC said: ‘He felt the source of this behaviour in 2009, was that he comes from a very restrictive background, with little social life, and none at all outside of his own community.
‘He lacked social skills, and had little knowledge of how one should be when working with colleagues.
‘He was unable to distinguish between friendliness and over familiarity.’
Mr Malmo added: ‘We do not think there is a serious risk of this kind of conduct being repeated.
‘Although we do not find the registrant impaired, we have the ability to issue a warning, and given the circumstances of this case, we believe it is necessary to do so.’
n a statement read to the hearing one of Jamil’s colleagues, referred to as CH, said she was working with Jamil at the Cooperative Pharmacy in Fauldhouse, West Lothian, in July 2009, when he asked: ‘Do you have a boyfriend? Do you want a boyfriend?’
She said: ‘Whenever it went quiet he came back to me and stood close again. He asked me if I was into sports, I said “No”.
‘He said he was into boxing and said feel my stomach. He grabbed my wrist and tried to get me to touch his stomach.'
Jamil had told the hearing that he had no desire to be in a relationship with the woman saying: ‘I suppose I was showing off, at the time, that I train, I work hard.'
He made similar remarks to another assistant, referred to only as SS, while he was working as a locum at a Morrisons pharmacy in St Andrews, Fife, in November 2009.
The pharmacist approached her while she was at the computer at and asked her if she had a boyfriend and how she liked to have sex with him.
A similar incident occurred the following week in which he put his arms around her waist.

Recent massacres raise fresh concerns about Taliban leaders' commitment to forging peace with the Afghan government

KABUL - An adolescent boy and a young girl have been beheaded in two separate incidents in Afghanistan, local officials and police said on Friday, in the latest brazen attacks that have raised fresh questions about a splintering Taliban.
A 12-year-old boy was kidnapped and killed in southern Kandahar province on Wednesday, his severed head placed near his body to send a warning to police, said provincial governor spokesman Jawid Faisal.
The brother of the boy, neither of whom were named by officials, was a member of the Afghan Local Police (ALP), a US-trained militia charged with making Afghans in Taliban strongholds, like Kandahar, feel more secure, Faisal said.
"It's a Taliban warning to the ALP and to others who support the government," Faisal said of the killing, which happened in Kandahar's Panjwai district.
Taliban spokesman Qari Yousuf denied the group was involved.
Separately, a 6-year-old girl was beheaded in eastern Kapisa province on Thursday, said provincial police chief Abdul Hamed.
"We are not sure if she was beheaded by her family or the Taliban, but we know the Taliban control the area," Hamed said of the killing in Jalukhil village. He added that he could not send investigators to the area out of fears for their safety.
The murders follow the shooting or beheading of 17 young revelers attending a party in southern Helmand province this week, which officials said was the work of the Taliban, a charge the group also denied.
That massacre raised fresh concerns about Taliban leaders' grip on their scattered fighters, amid on-again, off-again peace moves by the group with the Afghan government.
It also suggested that there are grassroots insurgent fighters who are not in a mood for compromise.
"What we're seeing could be a new tactic by the Taliban to behead civilians to intimidate the population," said Faisal.

Such incidents highlight the difficulty that Taliban leaders have in enforcing discipline across an estimated 20,000 fighters spread from Afghanistan to Pakistan.
The central Taliban leadership is trying to improve the group's image in case it wants to push forward tentative reconciliation steps and perhaps even enter mainstream politics. But some militant units are hard to control, roaming the countryside and attacking those deemed immoral.

Two new signs point to the deepening rift between the Obama administration and the Israeli government over how to stop Iran’s nuclear weapons efforts: a reported confrontation between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the U.S. ambassador to Israel and a statement by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Martin Dempsey that he doesn’t want to be “complicit” in an Israeli strike on Iran.
The Israeli newspaper Yediot Ahronot headlined its Friday paper “The Confrontation” with a photo of Netanyahu on one side and President Obama alongside U.S. ambassador to Israel, Dan Shapiro, on the other. Veteran diplomatic correspondent Shimon Schiffer reports that during a private meeting last week, Netanyahu very undiplomatically attacked Obama and his advisers over what he views as their ineffective Iran policy. The incident took place when Republican congressman and House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Rogers visited Netanyahu’s office for an Iran briefing, accompanied by the U.S. ambassador to Israel. Schiffer reports (translated via hard copy by TheBlaze in Israel):
Netanyahu, according to a source who participated in the meeting, was particularly surly and stressed. At the start of the meeting, he opened with a sharp attack on the Obama administration which according to him has not done enough on the Iranian issue. “Instead of effectively pressuring Iran, Obama and his people are pressuring us not to attack the nuclear facilities,” he said, and then moved on to a harsh criticism of the administration’s pronouncements indicating there is still room for diplomacy. “The time has run out,” he said resolutely.
At one point, an anomalous thing occurred in the office, which is very unacceptable in diplomatic code. Ambassador Shapiro who was appointed by President Obama and for years was among his closest advisers decided he’d had enough. Enough is enough. He spoke and answered Netanyahu politely but in a manner that left no room for doubt.
The ambassador in fact accused Netanyahu of distorting Obama’s position. He quoted the president, who promised he would not allow a nuclear Iran and said that all options – including a military strike – are on the table […]
Diplomatic sources who were privy to the incident say that “lightning and sparks flew” in the room, and that the exchange of words became more harsh.
The U.S. embassy wouldn’t comment to the Yediot correspondent, and TheBlaze has not independently confirmed the story’s accuracy.
Meanwhile, Joint Chiefs Chairman Martin Dempsey voiced his strongest opposition to date to any unilateral Israeli strike on Iran’s nuclear plants. He told reporters in London: “I don’t want to be complicit if they [Israel] choose to do it.” The Guardian reports:
Distancing himself from any Israeli plan to bomb Iran, Dempsey said such an attack would “clearly delay but probably not destroy Iran’s nuclear programme”.
He added: “I don’t want to be complicit if they [Israel] choose to do it.”
Dempsey said he did not know Iran’s nuclear intentions, as intelligence did not reveal intentions. What was clear, he said, was that the “international coalition” applying pressure on Iran “could be undone if [Iran] was attacked prematurely”. Sanctions against Iran were having an effect, and they should be given a reasonable opportunity to succeed.
For now it appears Iran’s nuclear march proceeds unabated by sanctions and diplomacy, as reflected in the most recent International Atomic Energy Agency report. According to the IAEA’s latest quarterly report, Iran has more than doubled the number of centrifuges it has in its underground Fordo bunker, vastly increasing its uranium enrichment capacity.
Here again we see the same same bloody Islamic pattern in Burma. Commit jihad, slaughter non-Muslims and then cry victim. The head of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) expressed disappointment over the failure of the international community to take action to stop the massacres, violations, oppression and ethnic cleansing perpetrated by the government of Myanmar against the Rohingya Muslims, the statement said.

A friend’s appeal to Britain and United States (links thanks to Vijay)
(Commentary) – The massacre in Arakan State by Islamic Extremist Terrorist Bengali so-called Rohingya over the past two weeks has caused disillusion for some, division among many, and shock and anguish for everyone. Racial and religious tensions that have simmered just beneath the surface for years have exploded into an ugly cycle of destruction and revenge which threatens to derail Burma’s journey towards democracy and peace.
Crude, racist abuse, deliberate misrepresentations, doctored images, misinformation and biased reporting of so-called Rohingya Bengali have added a cruel twist to an already bloody tragedy.
Some people may call me biased, and to that charge I plead guilty. But I am biased not in favour of one community over another, in favour of one race or religion over another, in favour of one particular political party over another. Instead, I am biased in favour of the universal values of human rights, including religious freedom and I am in favour of sovereignty and I am in favour of opposing terrorists and I am in favour of rule of law and I am in favour of enforcing immigration laws.
I am biased in favour of mutual respect, equal rights, peace and harmony between religions and races. I am biased in favour of the dignity of each and every human being, whatever their ethnicity or religion. I am biased against intolerance, hatred, racism and extremism.
The tragedy in Arakan State is that ordinary people from Rakhine communities have suffered. Homes burned, Buddhist monasteries desecrated, women raped, people killed – and for what purpose? It has been claimed that as many as 30,000 people are displaced as a result of the violence, although this figure is not verified because the UN has vacated its staff and independent monitors have not had access to the area. One of the first things the government of Burma should do is enforcing immigration laws to disperse illegal immigrants entering Burma and to deport them to original country.
I am writing this as a friend of Burma and all of Burma’s people. I have worked for the cause of freedom, democracy and human rights in Burma for the past 25 years, and travelled more than 100 times inside the country and to all its borders. I have been working for democratisation of Burma with all the ethnic people of Burma including Karen, Karenni, Shan, Mon, Kachin, Chin, Rakhine, Bamar and Shan. I also write as someone with extensive experience of other countries where religious intolerance is growing, often from extremist Islamism: Afghanistan, Indonesia, Pakistan and The Maldives, in particular.
And so with that background, I appeal to the governments around the world and people of Burma especially Burmese and international media not only to stop broadcasting biased news siding with so-called Rohingya Bengali Islamic Extremist Terrorists but also to respect ethnical media code of conduct and avoid taking under table money writing in favour of articles for so-called Rohingya Bengali Islamic Extremist Terrorists. They must stop Islamophilia and promoting religious intolerance and racial hatred which have come to the fore in the past few weeks. I appeal to the people of free world especially people of UK, USA and supporters around the world to see true to everything that is good and noble in Burmese and Buddhist culture, and to see reality to the values of freedom and human rights for which they have been struggling. I make this appeal on several grounds.
First, I appeal to human conscience on the grounds of humanity and human rights. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is exactly that: universal, for everyone. As Daw Aung San Suu Kyi said in her Nobel Peace Prize Lecture last Saturday, human rights are “the birthright of all”. No human being should be degraded, restricted or abused in the way the people of Burma have been by the military regime for so long and that includes Arakan.
Second, I appeal on religious grounds. From my basic understanding of Islam, I know that there is a universal Muslim greeting called “Salaam alaykum,” (“Peace be with you”). In Burmese Buddhist’s faith, people learnt from the very young age that showing “Metta or Impassionate Love” toward all the living beings. In Christianity, we are also taught to “love your enemies.” But, Rohingya Bengali Islamic Extremist Terrorists are killing peaceful Buddhist, Chyristian, Hindu Burmese and Arakan people.
Last, if simple humanity, basic human rights and core religious teachings cannot persuade people to exercise love, tolerance, respect and peace, to safeguard equal rights for all, then I appeal on grounds of self-interest.
If what I have said so far has not upset some, what I am about to say will upset others, but I must say it anyway. The Rohingya people are among the most Extremists and Radical people I have ever come across. I have visited Maung Dtaw, Buu Thee Taung and Yathe Taung where Arakanese Buddhist are living for centuries and seen the anxiety in their eyes. I have met Arakan villagers, and seen the worry in their hearts. The Arakan I know are among the most hospitable, kind, gentle, decent, tolerant, peace-loving human beings I have ever met. They have clung on to human decency, even when others have tried to torch their villages, massacring their Arakan people but they had shown their love of humanity.
But I also know there is a danger ahead if they continue to be massacred and genocide not only by the Bengali Rohingya, but by Biased Media Society as well as Corrupted so-called Human Rights organisation, and it is this: the danger of radicalization.
Since Rohingyas ‘terrorist’ are massacring Arakan Burmese Buddhist without any foundation or substance but fuelled by Religious extremists and greediness. But it could be a self-fulfilling prophecy. If the Arakans are persecuted by the regime, marginalized by the Burmese media, discriminated against and attacked by Islamic society and ignored by the international media, if radical Nationalist organizations tap into the seething despair among the Arakan people, and the Arakan feel they have nowhere else to turn, then it is possible that more Arakan could be radicalized. Having seen radical Nationalism in action in Russia, China, The North Korea and on the streets of London, to name just a few places, I fear for Burma if it is added to its woes. I am not talking about bombs and hijackings. I am talking about the ideology of political Nationalism.
Marginalization and protectlessness could be a breeding ground for nationalism. As Aung San Suu Kyi said in Oslo, “War is not the only arena where peace is done to death. Wherever suffering is ignored, there will be the seeds of conflict, for suffering degrades and embitters and enrages.”
Don’t misunderstand me. What I have said must not be used to justify attacks on the Arakan. Indeed, quite the opposite. To avoid provoking Arakan Nationalism, the whole people of Burma should work with moderate-minded Arakan whose only desire is to be protected their lives as others, to be treated with respect and dignity, to live in peace. One of Arakan several years ago described his vision beautifully to me when he described Burma as a garden, in which various different flowers grow – and the Arakan are one of those flowers and Rohingya is a snail trying to destroy the beautiful flower.
There are two myths about the Arakan that need to be dispelled. The first is the idea that Arakan simply hate Rohingya Bengali. Arakan do not like the Rohingya simply because these aliens Rohingya Bengali people forcefully robbing the Arakan lands by terrorizing such as torching fires on Arakan villages, massacring Buddhists and raping Arakan women.
The Arakan do not hate other people baselessly, but they won’t hesitate to defend their land, their family and their children. They just want to be protected as citizens of Burma. Even if they were attacked by Islamic Extremist Bengali Rohingya Terrorists, there are no proper armed forces to protect them in Buu Thee Taung, Yathe Taung and Maung Taw area of Arakan where Burma shares the border with Bengali Bangladesh. As long as Arakan are not protected them with assurance combined together with practical action, the terrorist threat of Rohingya Bengali Islamic Extremist won’t stop.
The second point is that Rohingya are part of Arakan. This is totally wrong. The so-called Rohingya are Bengali illegal immigrants. To prove this I have several reasons. The historical record is clear that the Rohingyas have never lived in northern Arakan for generations. Scholars can debate the precise record with civility and evidence and no one can doubt that they haven’t been there for generations.
I would like to highlight here that the son of the first President of Burma Sao Shwe Thaike, Harn Yaung Wai, established The Euro-Burma Office (EBO) in Brussels to sell Burma for money. He is one of the most responsible persons bringing alien Rohingya Bengali into Burma crisis. He had pledged to his Arab funders that if he cannot do Rohingya to belong to the Burma indigenous races, then he won’t live anymore and commit suicide.”
Burma’s first Prime Minister U Nu, who used the disputed term ‘Rohingya,’ in return for a few votes for his cling into power betrayed Burma creating long-time unresolved problems. It was only when 88-Generation Students Leaders take leading role, driven aliens Rohingya fake histories lies with their brave leadership and nationalist stand, that so-called Bengali Rohingya are exposed of with their barbaric cruelties, Islamic extremism and radical terrorism.
In Europe, the son of the first President Sao Shwe Thaike, Harn Yaung Wai, is promoting Rohingya Bengali terrorists as if part of Burma crisis by using his DVB news media as a propaganda tool in addition to appointing a story writer named Francis Wade for doing media propaganda for so-called Rohingya Bengali.
In United States, Aung Din and his group US Campaign for Burma (USCB) are selling Burma for money and betraying Arakan by portraying Arakan as the villains and so-called Rohingya Bengali as the victims but in reality it is other way round.
In UK, Mark Farmaner of Burma Campaign UK and his second wife Zoya Phan are fiercely promoting so-called Rohingya Bengali for money while their boyfriend, Benedict Rogers of Christian Solidarity Worldwide, is mimicking whatever Burma Campaign UK is telling lies and self-praise no-grace Maung Zar Ni is promoting so-called Rohingya as if they are his son-in-laws.
In Thai-Burma border, Soe Aung and Naing Aung of the Forum for Democracy in Burma (FDB) are supporting Bengali Rohingya after receiving funding under the name of human rights and equality.
In ASEAN, Soe Aung’s wife, Debbie Stothard, a Malaysian Chinese who knows nothing about Burma is blindly shouting for Rohingya by representing a group called ALSEAN comprising of her and Arrr herself. Their boss is Mark Farmaner of Burma Campaign UK (BCUK) and BCUK boss on Rohingya issue is Chris Lewa of Arakan Project. You can see clearly that this is coordinated and planned plot to colonise and Islamise Burma.
In reality, the BOSS of all Rohingya campaigners is Chris Lewa, the Director at the Arakan Project who has been lobbying for so-called Rohingya for decades. Even though Chris Lewa is seeking funding with the Arakan Project but that person has never ever been working for Arakan people but been working for Rohingya people under the name Arakan Project. This is depressing, isn’t it?
But for the good side, Ko Ko Gyi led 88-Generation students are giving strong and firm leadership to people of Burma and people around the world. The 88 Generation Students Leaders clearly stated clearly that “Rohingyas are absolutely not a nationality of Burma. We absolutely do not accept the interfering intrusion by the international community without their full understanding of the domestic affairs of Burma; we consider it to be a violation to the sovereignty of our country. We will not agree to, nor comply with, nor accept them as destitute refugees, nor placate and appease the pressures of the international community.
We would like to press here that a lot of the illegal immigrants can speak the language of the host country very fluently. Even though Rohingya are from Bangladesh, they can learn to speak Burmese fluently and can have Burmese names? Even in USA, a lot of the Burmese have English names. Bangladesh refuses them to give refuge Rohingya Bengali because they are practicing Stalin like policy — shoot to kill anyone who flees from battle front line. Even they are immigrants from Bangladesh, they do wish to stay in Burma and make it their homeland, because it is their way of colonization and Islamnization of Burma where they exploit Burma crisis, and terrorizing Arakan people.
Bengali Rohingyas flee severe poverty, extreme weather, land shortages and population booming of Bangladesh to places of prosperity and freedom – Burma, India and around the world. Do not forget that Bangladesh is ¼ the size of Burma and 4 times the size of population of Burma. Additions, these Rohingya Bengali Terrorists have the hidden agenda of Islamnization of Burma where they wishfully day dreaming of ruling Burma with strict Islamic Sharia laws.
Some British have told me that due to be a porous border, so they accept the facts that some who claim to be ‘Rohingya’ may be illegal Bengali immigrants. They went on argue to give Burmese citizenship to those who were born in Burma regardless. The fact is that Rohingya are illegal immigrants and they are asking for the ethnic rights which we cannot give. Even to be the citizen, we cannot give away Burmese citizenship easily to everyone whoever enters into Burma illegally. We must clearly, precisely and strictly define our citizenship laws and firmly implement immigration policies.
Burma’s Arakan crisis has born a new hero — Ko Ko Gyi. So it is time for everyone, in Burma and in the international community, who cares about universal human rights, human dignity and peace, who cares about national security and national interest to stand up and put an end to the violence, to stand up and to put an end on Rohingya Bengali terrorist attacks and begin the long hard road to reconstruction and reconciliation. Let that be the way forward, for Arakan, Kachin, Karen, Shan, Chin, Mon and Bamar, for government official and for Burmese citizen and foreign friends of Burma alike to be united under the leadership of Ko Ko Gyi working for better, prosper and safer Burma.

Obama's failed Iran policy on full display as UN Secretary General visits Tehran FOX NewsThe visit of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to Iran this week, as the country chairs a meeting of the so-called 120 member Non-Aligned Movement, says as much about the failure of President Obama’s Iran policy as it does about the UN’s abject lack of a moral compass.
The Obama administration was instrumental in supporting Ban Ki-moon’s bid for a second term, fought back congressional attempts to subject American UN funding to greater controls, and has run its foreign policy through UN institutions from the outset. But when President Obama asked the SG not to go to Iran during an election cycle that spotlights Obama’s alleged ability to isolate the regime, he turned him down flat.
The line of world leaders who don’t take this American president seriously just got longer.
The UN has a hard time confronting Iran for many reasons. For starters, Iran is a UN authority figure. Currently, Iran is a Vice-President of the UN General Assembly. Though it stones women to death for alleged adultery, and recently banned them from 80 fields of university study, Iran is a member of the UN Commission on the Status of Women. A master at arbitrary and unlawful killings, as well as torture, Iran is on the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice. Infamous for an absence of freedom of speech and of the press, Iran is the Rapporteur of the UN Committee on Information.
The line of world leaders who don’t take this American president seriously just got longer.Iran is also the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism. But the UN still has no definition of terrorism because all if its Islamic members have signed on to the Islamic Terrorism Convention which says blowing up selected women and children doesn’t count.
Evidently, therefore, Ban Ki-moon felt the UN and Iran still have lots in common.
Also not holding the Secretary-General back was Iran’s systematic refusal to admit other UN officials, namely those specifically charged with investigating its human rights abuses. As recently as July, Iran refused to cooperate with the UN Special Rapporteur on Iran or allow him into the country. Also being refused entry after numerous requests are the UN Special Rapporteurs on torture, the independence of judges and lawyers, freedom of opinion and expression, summary or arbitrary executions, involuntary disappearances, freedom of religion or belief, and minorities. Obviously, the Secretary-General’s outing will permit Iran to tout his anodyne presence as an acceptable substitute.
Back in 2007 then UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Louise Arbour made a similar mistake of attending a Tehran event of the Non-Aligned Movement. Following Arbour’s appearance, Iranian officials crowed that the UN had “taken part in the conference at the highest level” – and executed 21 people the day after she left.
Today, Iran’s genocidal sights are in plain view – with yet another call by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to “finish off” “the Zionist cancerous tumor” less than two weeks ago. Even the UN’s own slothful International Atomic Energy Agency threw up its hands on August 24 during its efforts to investigate Iran’s nuclear program and its military dimensions, and announced “important differences remain between Iran and the Agency…we have no plans for a follow-up meeting.” But why would Iran bother with the IAEA when the Secretary-General is coming to town?
President Obama has spent his first term in office watching the world’s most dangerous state make a dash for the world’s most dangerous weapon, and waiting for the UN Security Council, General Assembly, and Human Rights Council to get serious about the isolation and sanction of Iran. Ban Ki-moon’s Tehran sojourn legitimizes this rogue regime. President Obama’s foreign policy legitimizes the UN. It’s a toxic mix.

Islam Channel censured by Ofcom
The presenter Nazreen Nawaz on Islam Channel, which has been ruled as in breach of the broadcasting code.Ofcom has ruled that Islam Channel, a London-based broadcaster, broke the broadcasting code for advocating marital rape, violence against women and describing women who wore perfume outside of the home as "prostitutes".
Five programmes broadcast on the satellite TV channel were ruled to be in breach of broadcasting guidelines, the media regulator said today. Ofcom launched its investigation into the programmes, which aired in 2008 and 2009, following a report by the Quilliam thinktank that was published in March.
In a programme first broadcast in April last year, Ofcom ruled that the Islam Channel host Nazreen Nawaz condoned marital rape when she said: "And really the idea that a woman cannot refuse her husband's relations this is not strange to a Muslim because it is part of maintaining that strong marriage. But it shouldn't be such a big problem where the man feels he has to force himself upon the woman."
The broadcaster, which was fined £30,000 by Ofcom in 2007 for a series of breaches, also broke impartiality regulations for broadcasting one-sided coverage of international affairs and the Middle East conflict.
"Ofcom remains concerned about Islam Channel's understanding and compliance processes in relation to the [broadcasting] code," the media regulator said. "This is particularly the case, given that the Islam Channel has previously been fined for breaches of the code relating to due impartiality."
Ofcom is so concerned it has called in the management from Islam Channel for a top-level meeting to explain and discuss its compliance processes in relation to the code.
Talal Rajab, author of the original Quilliam report into Islam Channel, added: "At the same time, there are encouraging signs that the channel is now making efforts to improve its output and to give greater airtime to a wider range of more mainstream Muslim voices. We stand ready to help Islam Channel further improve and diversify its output in order to avoid further problems. The Islam Channel could yet become a powerful voice for greater social harmony."
The report published in March by the Quilliam thinktank had found that Islam Channel regularly promoted violent extremist views and regressive attitudes towards women. The foundation monitored the channel's output over a three-month period and a published a report in March claiming that Islam Channel was implicit in spreading "reactionary, intolerant messages".
The channel also broke the broadcasting code by encouraging violence against women, in a Q&A session on marital violence, and for labelling women who wore perfume "prostitutes".

Most people who get frustrated at delays caused by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority have little recourse, other than to suffer quietly.
The transportation authority was told its refusal to run this ad because of the language it used violated the First Amendment.
But a federal judge in Manhattan on Wednesday was able to do much more.
The judge, Paul A. Engelmayer of Federal District Court, signaled his unhappiness at the agency’s seeming lack of urgency in its response to a July ruling, in which he found it had violated the First Amendment rights of a pro-Israel group by barring it from advertising on city buses; the agency had cited the ad’s demeaning language.
The agency had asked that the judge postpone implementation of his decision pending an appeal and also until after its board met next — on Sept. 27, when it would presumably address the no-demeaning-language policy.
But in an order late Wednesday, Judge Engelmayer granted the transportation agency just two more weeks to develop a new policy on such ads or to seek a further stay from an appellate court.
“The more protracted a stay keeping in place a constitutionally defective standard,” the judge wrote, “the more severe the continuing First Amendment injury.”
The group, the American Freedom Defense Initiative, wanted to place an ad for four weeks on about 318 city buses. The proposed ad said, “In any war between the civilized man and the savage, support the civilized man.” It also said, “Support Israel. Defeat Jihad.”
The authority found that the ad violated its ban on ads that demeaned individuals or groups on the basis of race, color, religion and six other listed categories. The group sued, and Judge Engelmayer ruled on July 20 that the rejected ad was “not only protected speech — it is core political speech” that expressed a “pro-Israel perspective on the Israeli/Palestinian conflict.”
Pamela Geller, executive director of the group that sought to place the ad, said on Wednesday: “Free speech is an absolute — so why the stall? Are they playing for time while they try to devise yet another way to circumvent the First Amendment?”
The judge had initially stayed his order for 30 days to allow the transportation authority time to consider appellate options or develop a new policy. This month, the agency appealed the July ruling, and also asked that the judge continue to stay his order pending its appeal and until after the Sept. 27 board meeting.
James B. Henly, the authority’s general counsel, said in court that the board met each month except in August, and that he could not even promise that the board would develop a new policy when it met next month.
The judge, citing the time from his July ruling until the late-September board meeting, noted that he was being asked to keep in place for 69 days a regulation that he had already found violated the First Amendment.
“I understand people are on vacation,” Judge Engelmayer said, “but we’ve got First Amendment issues at stake.”
Aaron Donovan, a spokesman for the transportation authority, said a decision had not yet been made on whether to schedule a special meeting before Sept. 27.
In court, the judge also asked why the agency had not put in place a stopgap measure for its advertising guidelines, like one that would “simply ban demeaning speech across the board.”
The judge also directed that the agency’s general counsel promptly furnish copies of his order and his July ruling to the agency’s board, “to ensure that the board is fully informed of the potential consequences” of a decision to defer consideration of a new policy until after the stay expires in two weeks.
The dispute plays out at a time when Ms. Geller’s group has also run ads at Metro-North Railroad stations, with posters that cite “deadly Islamic attacks” since Sept. 11 and read, “It’s not Islamophobia, it’s Islamorealism.”
Mr. Donovan said the Metro-North ad was allowed because it did not reach the authority’s threshold for “demeaning” language.
“The language about ‘savage’ was at issue,” Mr. Donovan said, referring to the rejected ad. “‘Islamophobia’ did not run afoul of that particular guideline.”
