Sunni Scholar Sheikh Yousuf Al-Qaradhawi: Islamic Law Should Be Implemented Gradually in Egypt; There Should Be No Chopping Off of Hands in the First Five Years MEMRI

Following are excerpts from an interview with Sunni scholar Sheikh Yousuf Al-Qaradhawi, which aired on Al-Nahar TV on January 26, 2012:

Yousuf Al-Qaradhawi: "I think [the shari'a] should be implemented gradually. This is a law of the shari'a and a law of nature. […]

"We should do things gradually. We should prepare the people, teach them. People have to learn. We have to make an effort to teach people the truth about Islam. […]

"People do not understand the shari'a properly. We have to teach people the laws of the shari'a and explain them, before anything else.

"I think that in the first five years, there should be no chopping off of hands. This period should be dedicated to teaching things.

"A transitional phase… This should be a period in which we teach people the true laws of the shari'a.

"When we find food for all the hungry, schools for all the pupils, hospitals for all the sick, homes for all those who want them, wives for all the bachelors – then we can discuss the punishment for theft. […]

"All the [presidential] candidates are good, but I support the candidacy of our brother Abd Al-Mun'im Abu Al-Futuh."

Islam itself is a process, and always has been. That's how it works. It started out in Mecca as a benign, tolerant religion, and then underwent the process that turned it into a totalitarian, muderous, military/politcal ideology. Mohammed himself used this process to Islamize his followers, for example asking first they pray once, then twice, then three times and so on. Each time they got used to it, he upped the ante. He did this all through his 'career' with Islam. It's how every country in the middle east and north africa was islamized - through the process. Islam today still works as a process. As a country imports more and more muslims and their populations increase, Islam becomes bolder, they make more and more demands for accomodation and they gain more and more social, economic and political power. It takes years, but they've been doing this for 1400 of them. It's the tried and tested way to islamize a country. This guy is suggesting the same 'process' for Egypt. They will get used to sharia as more and more is introduced, then they bring in the hand chopping and beheadings. It's nothing new. He's doing what Mo did.

What this sheikh would call 'Gradualism' is in reality just another form of Stealth Jihad. This "soft" or sly form of jhiad is very subtle indeed. Those Muslims who practice this kind of jihad is a dissimulating way of gaining power and subverting America and other countries of the West for Islam.
