Iran may not be able to reverse engineer the infamous RQ-170 Sentinel the US somehow lost over there last year. But they sure as hell can make a kid-friendly toy version! What it lacks in stealth, it boasts in colourful fun. (hat tip Gizmodo)
Here is another indication of how Obahma is viewed across the world -- a laughingstock. The schmuck did ask for it back here. He got his wish. Sheesh.
Doesn't Iran know that Obama doesn't play with GI Joes and such? But the pink works .....
Taunting the weak. "U.S. Drone that crashed in Iran goes miniature," by Thomas Erdbrink for the Washington Post, January 17 (thanks to Benedict):
TEHRAN — For the American government, the crash of the RQ-170 drone in Iran was an embarrassment. For the Iranian government, it was a propaganda victory.
And for at least one company, according to state radio, it could be a windfall.
An Iranian firm, seeking to capitalize on the frenzy that followed the crash of the drone — and American calls to have it returned — is now producing miniaturized toy versions of the craft. Most of the toys, which come in several colors and are made of Iranian plastic, have already been snapped up by Iranian government organizations, according to the group that manufactures them.
At least one model — a pink one — has been reserved for President Obama.
“He said he wanted it back, and we will send him one,” said Reza Kioumarsi, the head of cultural production at the Ayeh Art group....
Iran Selling Toy Copies Of Captured Drone January 17, 2012 Sam Biddle
The Iranian Aaye Art Group, a self-described “designer and manufacturer of artistic and cultural goods”, is offering the Sentinel in 10 sassy colours, including gold, silver and the Ayatollah’s favourite, some sort of speckled salmon hue. It’ll go great with your 1:144 scale model Osama-killin’ chopper.
This is surely only the first of many collaborations between Iran and a chinese factory somewhere with regards to the captured Sentinel — let’s hope the ones that actually fly are as zany and creative! No word on pricing, availability or how much extra that fancy lucite stand will cost you.
Update: Hey look, this Iran being insane story just got more Iranian Insane! The Washington Post reports Tehran plans on mailing one of the toys to the White House, in response to the administration’s demand that the Sentinel be returned. Or, as translated from Farsi, “Go f**k yourself.”
Note: Google translates the name of the Iranian newspaper this gem appeared in as the Deprived Tribune. Can someone who reads Farsi check this out and confirm/deny the wonderfully apropos name?
