Justice was served today in a California courtroom. A six-man, six-woman jury found members of the Muslim Brotherhood group, the Muslim Student Union, guilty on all counts of misdemeanor disturbing a public meeting and conspiracy in connection with the Feb. 8, 2010.
They deliberately broke the law. They deliberately disrupted and shut down Ambassador to Israel Michael Oren's, speech, knowing full well that they risked arrest. The stealth jihadists use freedom of speech to shut down freedom of speech. There is no freedom of speech under the sharia. Today American law triumphed over the sharia.
Atlas readers and others are to be applauded for urging the DA to prosecute the Muslim Brotherhood supremacist group. The Irvine 11 are the MSU students at UC Irvine who are accused of disrupting Ambassador Oren's speech. This was an orchestrated attack on free speech. Please take a minute to email Tony Rackauckas, the Orange County DA, letting him know you support his decision to prosecute these MSU students. Muslim Brotherhood-tied CAIR pushed for an aggressive plan to stop this prosecution. Both groups were named as Brotherhood proxies and unindicted co-conspirators in the largest Hamas funding trial in American history.
No modern phenomenon has impacted college campuses today more than the Muslim Student Association/Union. Founded in 1963 by the Muslim Brotherhood — the same radical Sunni organization that spawned the terror group Hamas — the MSU has since made headlines around the country due to its militant and controversial rhetoric. The MSU, especially that of University of California at Irvine, is infamous for attracting charges of anti-Semitism and anti-Americanism, as well as for sparking the 2007 investigation of UCI for anti-Semitism. The MSU is no stranger to the First Amendment. Come May every year, the organizations hides behind it so its members can spout anti-Zionist and anti-Semitic remarks on college campuses. And just last February, MSU members at UCI attempted to use their right to free speech in order to deny Israeli Ambassador Michael Oren his own free speech. (more here.)
The Brotherhood thugs:
Atlas Shrugs, Feb 2010: Oren was interrupted 10 times while trying to give his speech before 500 people at the UCI Student Center, where there was heavy security. Oren took a 20 minute break after the fourth protest, asked for hospitality and resumed his speech, only to be interrupted again by young men yelling at him every few minutes. Many members of the audience also applauded Oren.
After the 10th interruption, several dozens students who opposed Oren’s talk got up and walked out and staged a protest outside. It is not clear whether they were members of the UCI Muslim Student Union, which issued an email earlier in the day condemning Oren’s appearance on campus.
They invoke freedom of speech to to kill freedom of speech. There is no free speech under the sharia. Today American law triumphed over the sharia.
UC Muslim students guilty of disturbing speech (hat tip Laurie R)
SANTA ANA – A jury Thursday found 10 Muslim university students guilty of disrupting a speech by an Israeli diplomat at UC Irvine last year, in a case that focused on free speech.
The six-man, six-woman jury found the students guilty on all counts of misdemeanor disturbing a public meeting and conspiracy in connection with the Feb. 8, 2010, talk by Michael Oren, the Israeli ambassador to the United States.
We're delighted the jury saw this the same way we saw it," said Assistant District Attorney Dan Wagner. The prosecution said the defendants used a "heckler's veto" to thwart the free speech rights of the speaker and others in the audience, while the defense countered what the protesters did was a lawful expression of their free speech.
Defense attorney Dan Stormer said he was honored to represent the students, but disappointed in the verdict.
The jurors left the courtroom without comment immediately after the verdict was announced.
Court will reconvene at 1:30 this afternoon for a possible sentencing.
After months of pretrial motion, the trial lasted eight days, including about two days spent on closing arguments by one prosecutor and six defense attorneys earlier this week.
Wagner told jurors the protesters actions amounted to censorship when they planned to disrupt Oren and tried to cover it up.
The right to free speech is not absolute, he said, and it does not include canceling out the speech of others.
"If heckler's veto was allowed, then no one would have the right to free speech," he said. "Freedom does not mean that no one can tell me what I can do. That's not freedom; that's anarchy."
The prosecutor urged jurors not to buy into the "alternate reality" created by the defense, saying the defendants "convicted themselves."
Defense attorneys for the students – seven from UC Irvine and three from UC Riverside – said their clients intentionally disrupted the speech, but they believed they were conducting a peaceful protest that did not break any laws.
University officials' zero tolerance for protest kept students from exercising their rights to free speech, defense attorneys argued.
And, it they told jurors in Superior Court Judge Peter Wilson's court officials were prohibiting the content of the protesters' statements at a controversial political speech and not simply their conduct.
One of the elements the prosecution needed to prove for the jury to find the students guilty was the students' conduct and not the content of their message disrupted the speaker.
"It was the message that was being targeted by administrators," defense attorney Lisa Holder said, "The university was prohibiting (the students') unpopular pro-Palestinian message."
[...]The "intent of the conspiracy was to rob the speaker of his free speech rights," Wagner told jurors, adding that a planned Q&A would have given students ample opportunity to have their say, not yelling out "something non-responsive that violates the rules we all live with."
When in an emailed "game plan" before the event students expressed willingness to disrupt regardless of what the university officials and police would do, that Wagner said was proof of conspiracy and the unlawfulness of the plan.

What is the punishment/fine for this misdemeanor? If it is not stiff enough, these guys may be tempted in the future to deliberately disrupt other speakers and simply pay the fine, don't you think?

they can get up to a year in prison
they probably wont
however, a rep from msu was on npr right after the verdict and said that they would do the same actions again if oren or another israeli rep came to campus
so the judge should throw the book at them...and their attys

This is wonderful. The shut down of two judicial jihad cases in one week: first Pamela kicks Omar Tarazi's lying butt and now American jurors with brains don't fall for Muslim whining and render the most correct of verdicts. There was a conspiracy, there is evidence to prove it was premeditated and it was carried out. Sorry guys, no whining after the fact just cuz you got caught red handed.
What's important here is that our system worked, and that system works when the rights of all people are considered and our laws protect all the people who live here, not just the latest (and loudest) special interest group that thinks it can throw it's weight around and either bribe politicians with money and votes or intimidate them with threats and violence. It didn't work this time and we are all the better off for it.

Deport these savages if they are in America on study visas and never allow them back in. If they are US Citizens make them spend time in jail, perhaps solitary. These are not really the "new nazis" they are just the continuation of the old nazis. No Jewish family should enroll their children into any of these schools, nor support any of these schools that allow such blatantly anti/Jewish anti/Israel organizations on campus.

The Muslim fascist bitches got off easy. Had it been Jewish students protesting against Muslims, the Nazi Democrats would be demanding hate crime charges.

Make no mistake, Pamela is absolutely right that real Islam represents a direct threat to free political speech (the exchange of ideas and opinions) in America.
The pattern here is usually that an implied threat is made by by some "moderate Muslim" (a Rauf or El-Sham of the GZ Mosque kinda Muslim) that "there might be violence" if some non-Muslim or Muslim expresses criticism of Islam. The sly inciter to violence (Rauf e.g.) then accuses the person(s) who express their ideas and opinions of Islam of "incitement" as Muslims attack the speaker(s) who express his/their idea and opinions re Islam, support of Israel etc.
The pattern is absurd, but there are a lot of Leftist morons who enable the Muslim authoritarians in this pattern.
Pamela is also right re her second concern: Islam, as presently constituted, is a potential existential threat to the Jewish people. That's my opinion, too.

Great news. Good to see the enemy defeated. I'm sure Ambassador Michael Oren and the people of Israel will be delighted.

Congratulations to Tony Rackauckas, the Orange County DA. Rackauckas refused to buckle even when the UC Irvine Administration began to try and wimp out on the charges. Rackauckas stood firm and was determined to prosecute these anti-Semitic Muslim thugs to the full extent of the law.

I'll bet there were plenty of "moderate" Rauf and Fibrahim Hooper style Muslims at the college (complete with hats and costumes) who warned re the Ambassador's speech: "Ya know, we are moderate Muslims, and we are against violence, but there are those extremists (wink , wink to the "extremists") and if Oren speaks, it's incitement."
Thus Muslims shut down free political speech (ideas and opinions), and the person who expresses the idea and opinion (who might even get beaten-up) is accused of incitement to violence by the people who incite to violence. Goebbels would marvel at how the aggressor claims victim-hood in this matter. It should be called The Muslim Hustle.
In the Muslim Hustle, the dance has the aggressor slamming a person expressing an idea and opinion critical of Islam to the ground and then the aggressor shouts "I'm a victim" (to the beat of "do the hustle") and "You're an inciter" (again to the beat "do the hustle")......
Do the Hustle...

We all should be complimented for responding to the Attorney General with letters and phone calls. Thanks Pam for posting these great events that show us freedom loving Americans that we can make a difference by just sending our opinions and responses. America doesn't realize how watchful we are but this demonstrates the power of the internet. Let's use it to our advantage, eventually the MSM may catch up maybe not. It seems to me that is why newspapers, magazines, television media are loosing their base. We are making a change in this country for the better. Everyone keep up the good work it is worth it.

We all know it will be happening again, and again, and again. Because fining a few muzzies isn't going to solve the problem...
At USC (University Southern California), the MSU had on its homepage the holy hadeeth of Pisslam calling for the extermination of Jews -- until a few too many people complained and they took it down.

My guess is they will get 1 hour of paper pickup. As a UC grad from a long time ago, all I can say is the liberal professors and their PC indoctrination are at the roots of this and many other problems. This is exactly why I will NEVER contribute one cent of my estate to the UC system. The word Tolerance and Muslims can NEVER be used in the same sentence. I hope the younger generation will learn to severely question all of their liberal professors and learn to think for themselves.

I went to UCLA many years ago. Even back then there was evidence of islamonazism. There was a muslime professor who taught a Turkish history during the WW1 that made no mention of the Armenia Genocide. At one point Armenians blew his house up -- unfortunately he wasn't in it at the time.
This is the revisionist history being taught in academia today.

This news needs to get passed along well beyond where it has been posted here. You know that the "main stream media" will most likely not make a peep about it - or if they do, it will be to claim that the jury struck a blow against freedom of speech. Heaven knows that the truth needs to be made known.

Why did campus security allow it to continue occuring? Ten times they interrupted, he waited 20 minutes at one point? They had plenty of time to lead the disrupters out, even if they did not arrest them, in order for the rest to have their right of free speech upheld- to be able to hear the ideas of a person they had come to listen to. Maybe they need to sue the university for failure to uphold its responsibilities as well.
If liberals will not willingly uphold our rights, sometimes we have to hold their feet to the fire and force them in court. That is the only way school districts have started to respect the rights of children to speak about Jesus or have afterschool clubs, etc.

The Universities (Irvine & Riverside) should
expel
the convicted criminals (students) from their respective campuses.Convicted criminals should not be admitted into any institution designed for higher education.

Is a court transcript available online? It may not be, as these were misdemeanor charges, but in the interest of maintaining our own academic library on these victories, it would be good to have.
I did find this, which is the DA's office making the case against the MSA et al.

The corruption of free thought, the abandonment of reason, is the inevitable result of Muslim infiltration in the west; especially in the institutions of higher learning.
Free speech, making yourself heard in the marketplace of ideas, is the basic consensus on which our society rests.
What this Muslim thugs did, is to destroy the marketplace of ideas because their doctrine is not one that can coexist with civil society. Instead of listening to the speaker and to engage in debate during question time, their goal was simply to destroy, and that's what Muslims have done for 1400 years now.
Time to stop it, now. Our country, our rules, our laws.
If you want Islam and sharia, go to the desert of your choice before we drop you off there.

I've always wondered; does freedom of speech allow you to shout down another's speech? In this verdict, the answer seems to be yes, but in political campaigns, the candidate with the bigger war chest can demolish the free speech rights of his opponent through dominating the airwaves, the mail and TV events. The Citizen's United decision has codified the right to shout down your opponent and strip him/her of their free speech rights. Discuss.
