August: Deadliest month for U.S. in Afghanistan Army Times
KABUL, Afghanistan — August has become the deadliest month yet for U.S. forces in the nearly 10-year-old war in Afghanistan, increasing pressure on the Obama administration to bring troops home sooner rather than later.
The 66 U.S. service members killed this month eclipses the previous record of 65 killed in July 2010, according to an Associated Press tally.
Today's fallen heroes.
SPC. Douglas J. Green, 23, of Sterling, VA, died Aug. 28 in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered when insurgents attacked his unit using an improvised explosive device and small arms fire. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Wainwright, AK.
SPC Michael C. Roberts, 23, of Watauga, TX, died Aug. 27 in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered when insurgents attacked his unit using an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 561st Military Police Company, 716th Military Police Battalion, 101st Sustainment Brigade, Fort Campbell, KY.
PFC Jesse W. Dietrich, 20, of Venus, TX, died Aug. 25 in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when insurgents attacked his unit using small arms fire. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, N.Y.
Keep these heroes and their families in your prayers.
Stand with us and honor our war dead in the afternoon of September 11th at West Broadway and Park Place at our 911 Freedom Rally. Stand for freedom and against the deception and lies being used to subdue us.

This is a horrible tragedy. It is good that a troop withdrawal is happening right now, but still, unknowing to the public, other departments of US military force are being deployed. One book that really taught me more about these overlooked aspects of the Afghan War is Afghan Hearts and Minds by Shafie Ayar.

Is there any particular reason there is a big "Rick Perry 2012" banner at the top of this story? Has AS2K beeen hacked?
