Layering: Obama's New COLB Raises More Questions than it Answers

Today, Obama released another copy of his COLB (certification of live birth) -- more here. It looks like another exhaustive digital forensic examination is in order.

And so the question is, why release such an obvious forgery?

I thought there was something wrong with my computer when I tried to import the .gov's PDF file into Photoshop. But now that I see what you got when you put it in Word, it's the same thing that Photoshop does to it when I import it! It's DEFINITELY a Layered image that has been cobbled together!

Now, why would only the signatures (and just a partial of Stanley Ann Dunham's) come up? It certainly looks as if someone took Obama's Birth Certificate and then cut&pasted it together!

Keeping in mind that PDF's are made Adobe's creation, here's what I get when I import it into Adobe's Photoshop program:

This is so maddening to listen to the media on this recent revelation... it's such an obvious fake.
 
Look at the attached JPG... (which shows what you will see when opening the PDF in Illustrator and how to get there)... but to recap... if you open the PDF in Illustrator (instead of Photoshop) - Select the entire document and go to the Object menu and choose Clipping Mask > Release. Repeat as necessary until all clipping masks are released. Also open the Layer and turn off the visibility of each clipping group and you can see all the numerous places in which information was added (edited) into the form.
 
Lastly, look at the attached 1961 sample image found on the Internet of a legitimate 1961 Hawaii Birth Certificate (which someone posted to show what a real certificate would look like from that year in Hawaii)... look at the marks on this Internet version and you can see this was the template for Obama's BC handiwork. The handwriting is exactly the same between posted Internet image and Obama's fake version -- the placement of boxes and marks are in the exact same position, dates are where the modified clipping masks occur to adjust dates to fit for Obama, but the handwriting of dates match (except for the clipping mask changes). Even the Cert. number is only off by the last two digits (which...you guessed it... happens to be a clipping mask layer).

If it was scanned using OCR then the layers would have searchable text.  They do not.  The different objects are images and not text.  Doug should maybe get a little better acquainted with OCR technology.

I just looked at my own BC it contained SO much info, not just my parents names ages places of birth, my dads occupation and name of employer, how many other children my mother had, wether or not they were still alive, ATTENDING physicians signature TWICE, AND a notary seal. This certificate appears to be a forgery for 3 reasons: (1) it was only produced after extreme delay and in response to a belated request by the WH, (2) evidence of "layering," and (3) lack of the essential embossed seal of the State of Hawaii, without which the certificate cannot be "certified." One cannot obtain a U.S.A. passport using this unsealed copy.

I have a certified copy of my COLB from the State of Hawaii (1963), and it contains a raised, embossed State Seal. Otherwise, it looks nearly identical to the digital image. BTW, I was born in the Kapialani hospital, so the reader who claims this isn't possible pre-1978 needs to get her facts straight.

It's just very interesting. When I open the pdf on the .gov site, the document shows up as an Adobe Acrobat file. I'm thinking out loud here...yes, there is a layering function in Adobe Acrobat, and as of version 9 you can create layers in Acrobat. However, the layering function is not the default when you do a scan and the file is saved as a PDF. It's one image. When I copy the image of another PDF file that I have, which was created by someone else, and paste it into something like Word or PowerPoint, (I don't even need to drop it into Illustrator) it comes in as one image, and doesn't have layers.

And then it could be as simple as OCR software creating searchable PDF's, of which the birth certificate is one. Look at the .gov actual .pdf document and zoom in on it to about 400%. There are individual letters and numbers all over the place that look different... they have anti-aliasing whereas most of it does not. For instance, the last '1' in "61 10641", the 'R' in box 1a, the 'g' in box 3, the comma in 5a, the 'K' in 11, the 'D' in 18a, different shades in box 22, many more. Something is definitely fishy here.

The numbering which is suspect. The Nordyke twins were born on 8/5 and their number is 10637, Obama was born the day before and the number is 10641. My own observation: look at the dates of signature by the mother on Obama's birth certificate and on Susan Nordykes birth certificate-the same-8-7/61 BUT the DASHES between the numbers slant the same way.

In both, the first dash slants upwards to the right and the next dash is horizontal. In fact I would say the date on Obama's was copied from Nordykes birth certificate because what are the chances of two different people signing and then writing the dates in EXACTLY the same way?

As for this latest piece of birther bullshit, it's simple. The .PDF is a composite of multiple images, sure, but the layers were created automatically during the process of scanning the document. They weren't created by a person. See, most scanners are capable of performing OCR (or "Optical Character Recognition"). OCR allows users to search PDFs more effectivel, and it works by compiling different portions of text on different layers. It's not a very reliable technology, which is why half the layers in the birth certificate are just full of squiggles and other random garbage. But it's the kind of thing which (a) you can easily forget to turn off if you're scanning a document, and (b) you can easily forget to check for if you've just received said document and are in the process of uploading it to the Whitehouse website. Which is obviously what happened here.

The curvature of the left side of the document is supposed to indicate that the image was scanned from a reamed book. HOWEVER, in that curvature, the green horizontal and virtical lines do not curve with the curvature. DEFINITELY layered. A fake.

Hawaii government hands over Obama's birth records

HONOLULU – Until this week, Hawaii officials said they wouldn't release original birth records for anyone, under any circumstances. Even if it was President Barack Obama.

Then they heard from the president himself.

"I am writing to request two certified copies of my original certificate of live birth," the president wrote on White House letterhead, dated April 22.

State officials then decided to make an exception to a 2001 policy that prohibited anyone from getting a photocopy of an original birth certificate. They usually hand out computer-generated versions.

Obama's waiver was the first since 2001. Officials said it would be the last.

By Wednesday, Obama had his copies, releasing them to dispel questions from so-called "birthers" and some Republicans who believe he wasn't born in the U.S. and therefore is ineligible to be president.

At a news conference, he pleaded for the long "sideshow" to end. Many of the skeptics suggest Obama was actually born in Kenya, his father's home country, or Indonesia, where he spent a few years of his childhood.

Since Obama's election, the state was inundated with up to 20 weekly requests for various birth records related to Obama, although that number has since dropped significantly.

It got to the point where legislators passed a law allowing state officials to ignore the repeated requests.

In recent days, potential Republican presidential candidate and reality TV star Donald Trump began questioning why Obama had not ensured the original be released.

On April 22, Obama and his personal attorney wrote letters to Health Director Loretta Fuddy.

In them, they argued that a waiver would allow Obama to make public his original birth certificate and relieve the state from the burdens that came with the repeated inquiries.

"We hope that issuing certified copies of the original certificate of live birth to President Obama will end the numerous inquiries related to his birth in Hawaii," Fuddy said in a prepared statement Wednesday.

Fuddy said she viewed the records and that they "further prove the fact that he was born in Hawaii."

After Fuddy approved the exception, Obama's attorney, Judith L. Corley, picked up the documents in Hawaii and carried them back to Washington on a plane. The documents arrived around 5 p.m. Tuesday.

State law prohibits the release of birth records except to those with a "tangible interest," such as the person named.

Only computer-generated birth certificates have been issued since May 2001. The 2001 policy was created to satisfy requests for certified copies and to comply with state laws restricting disclosure of some birth details.

Before then, photocopies of original birth records were provided.

Hawaii's computer-generated birth certificates carry a raised state seal and a signature stamp from the state registrar. They're valid documents for obtaining driver's licenses and other government documents.

That's the type of birth certificate the Obama campaign released in 2008. The computer-generated version does not include such details as the signatures of the mother and the delivering doctor.

Last Tuesday, the state attorney general's office said there were "no circumstances" when the state would release original birth records.

Officials said Wednesday that the exception for Obama complied with the law, and they would continue to protect the confidentiality of vital statistics, such as birth records.

Obama paid $14 for the copies, said Donalyn Dela Cruz, a spokeswoman for Democratic Gov. Neil Abercrombie, who knew Obama's parents and says he had laid eyes on a young Obama.

"Considering all the investigations that have been done and the information that has been provided, no rational person can question the president's citizenship," Abercrombie said in a prepared statement.

"We have found a way — once again — to confirm what we already knew."

HONOLULU – Until this week, Hawaii officials said they wouldn't release original birth records for anyone, under any circumstances. Even if it was President Barack Obama.

Then they heard from the president himself.

"I am writing to request two certified copies of my original certificate of live birth," the president wrote on White House letterhead, dated April 22.

State officials then decided to make an exception to a 2001 policy that prohibited anyone from getting a photocopy of an original birth certificate. They usually hand out computer-generated versions.

Obama's waiver was the first since 2001. Officials said it would be the last.

By Wednesday, Obama had his copies, releasing them to dispel questions from so-called "birthers" and some Republicans who believe he wasn't born in the U.S. and therefore is ineligible to be president.

At a news conference, he pleaded for the long "sideshow" to end. Many of the skeptics suggest Obama was actually born in Kenya, his father's home country, or Indonesia, where he spent a few years of his childhood.

Since Obama's election, the state was inundated with up to 20 weekly requests for various birth records related to Obama, although that number has since dropped significantly.

It got to the point where legislators passed a law allowing state officials to ignore the repeated requests.

In recent days, potential Republican presidential candidate and reality TV star Donald Trump began questioning why Obama had not ensured the original be released.

On April 22, Obama and his personal attorney wrote letters to Health Director Loretta Fuddy.

In them, they argued that a waiver would allow Obama to make public his original birth certificate and relieve the state from the burdens that came with the repeated inquiries.

"We hope that issuing certified copies of the original certificate of live birth to President Obama will end the numerous inquiries related to his birth in Hawaii," Fuddy said in a prepared statement Wednesday.

Fuddy said she viewed the records and that they "further prove the fact that he was born in Hawaii."

After Fuddy approved the exception, Obama's attorney, Judith L. Corley, picked up the documents in Hawaii and carried them back to Washington on a plane. The documents arrived around 5 p.m. Tuesday.

State law prohibits the release of birth records except to those with a "tangible interest," such as the person named.

Only computer-generated birth certificates have been issued since May 2001. The 2001 policy was created to satisfy requests for certified copies and to comply with state laws restricting disclosure of some birth details.

Before then, photocopies of original birth records were provided.

Hawaii's computer-generated birth certificates carry a raised state seal and a signature stamp from the state registrar. They're valid documents for obtaining driver's licenses and other government documents.

That's the type of birth certificate the Obama campaign released in 2008. The computer-generated version does not include such details as the signatures of the mother and the delivering doctor.

Last Tuesday, the state attorney general's office said there were "no circumstances" when the state would release original birth records.

Officials said Wednesday that the exception for Obama complied with the law, and they would continue to protect the confidentiality of vital statistics, such as birth records.

Obama paid $14 for the copies, said Donalyn Dela Cruz, a spokeswoman for Democratic Gov. Neil Abercrombie, who knew Obama's parents and says he had laid eyes on a young Obama.

"Considering all the investigations that have been done and the information that has been provided, no rational person can question the president's citizenship," Abercrombie said in a prepared statement.

"We have found a way — once again — to confirm what we already knew."

The operative phrase at the bottom is that it is a “COPY OR ABSTRACT” (abstract meaning lifted summary information; not necessarily complete information or a reproduction of the entire document.)

What’s important to know: Fuddy of the HDOH says this is a “computer-generated certified copy” produced outside their usual policies, which she gave herself authority to waive, just in Obama’s case, because he’s the president. What’s a computer-generated certified copy? That could include and probably does include a photoshopped image like we see here. This in no way is an actual photocopy of the original long-form birth certificate.

The exception was to issue a COMPUTER-GENERATED certified copy. So they admit it’s computer generated. That might include all the photoshopping that seems to be in evidence. Another exception might be to make this an abstract containing only the LATEST (most recent) permutation of all the facts contained in the “full birth certificate filing.” Which might mean elimination of the names of the biological parents, if he was adopted, replaced by the adoptive parents. Which might mean elimination of his name at birth, as opposed to what it is now, after being amended in their records. Which might mean elimination of the fact that at birth no father was named, but one was later added, via amendment, but this computer-generated abstract isn’t showing that out of deference to his status as president. You see how it goes?

Even he can’t get access to the FULL information. So what was embarrassing on the original that is now not evident on this supposed long-form which is NOT a TRUE COPY OF HIS ORIGINAL LONG-FORM BIRTH CERTIFICATE? Look at 5b. Hour in the PDF document. The "M" is too big to be capital, and the shape is not small. What struck me was that when using manual typewriters, paper must often be adjusted to whiteout a mistake, yet I can't see this happening in something so simple as p.m. Again, just look at that "M" - something isn't right. Also, look at the period after the p and the m, in p.m. - the differences are striking and impossible if typed on one single typewriter.

I've used typewriters extensively in the past and the differences in 13, mother's maiden name also jumped out at me. The S is light, other letters are dark. This ONLY happens on manual typewriters whereby the darkness of the letters are dependent upon the force of the stroke, i.e., light strokes, light letters and heavy strokes, dark letters. Light strokes are often associated with the 5th digit, the pinkie.

If Hawaii was using typewriters such as IBM Selectric, the image is consistent regardless of the pressure of the stroke. This is improbable as the IBM introduced it on July 31, 1961

There are MANY other things that struck me, but I'll leave these to those whose profession deals with this.
Finally, I'd examine the attending physician to see if he were at the hospital during those times or possibly at conferences, vacation, etc.

Just so you don't get wound up about the M in the P.m......the M is preprinted on the form in a small capital M to force whoever is filling out the form to put a P or an A in front of it to signify whether it was night or day. Most would merely put the time as most in those days weren't used to putting AM or PM after the time. There are plenty of other inconsistencies on the form to prove it is a fake....the M in P.m. isn't one of them. One thing that stands out to me is the fact that some of the blocks are filled in with all caps. They didn't have "Caps Lock" on the old typewriters.....it would have been very very cumbersome for a clerk to hold down the shift ket the entire time they were typing. Proper English was a VERY big deal in those days and every proper name would have been typed correctly.

OK. The thing to me is that.....
1. IF this is a scanned copy, why is the left side still bent away?
Scanning it using OCR doesn't explain why it would layer it with the main document body (the square section around the main text area) its own layer.

2. How does that explain the section that looks "cut" away on the left side of the document?
If you look at the whole document, it looks like the main body has been put into a frame. What else would explain the fact that you can see the bend in the paper that disappears behind the "frame" to its left? there is clearly more paper on the bent section than would bend up and meet the section to its left.

My opinion it that this the main body is from a photograph. It has the look of an image that was taken at an angle, as if someone standing at a table looking at the document.

If it is a photocopy, the document wouldn't be bent on the left like that. This is likely a photograph of a document. And there is also the fact that in the section bent back there is visible writing on that section. So, what is written there?

Auntie, I can see you are well-intentioned, but your position reflects that you have a lack of experience dealing with government documents, government recorders and government registrars.

A true and correct copy means a photocopy, a scan or a microfilm of an original document. An abstract of a record means that the essential data has been entered into a database and printed out as a standard form.

Neither of these two methods implies or authorizes the kind of cut-and-paste work demonstrated in this document released by Obama.

It can also use images, just not recognize them. You can scan pictures and text and hope to get the equivalent in your scanned document. OCRs have been able to produce mixed documents for years.
