The left is so inconsistent and dangerous. What is their premise? Why Libya? Of all the madmen in all the world, why Gaddafi and not Ahmadinejad? Gaddafi gave up his weapons of mass destruction program. Ahmadinejad is pursuing catastrophic nuclear weapons fiercely.
Obama said "Our consensus was strong, and our resolve is clear. The people of Libya must be protected."
What about the people of Iran?
Under Obama, the international community is leading America around by her nose.
US fires more than 100 missiles in attacks against Libya; 48 dead, 150 wounded
Now it’s Moammar Khadafy’s turn to learn firsthand the meaning of the words "shock and awe."
In an action dubbed Operation Odyssey Dawn, the United States, France and Britain launched the first fierce strikes today in a massive international military action aimed at quashing the Libyan dictator’s attacks on opponents to his repressive regime.
As part of the astounding opening salvo, US and British forces unleashed a ferocious cruise missile attack on the area around Tripoli, Libya’s capital, and the western city of Misrata, the Pentagon said.
Libyan TV quoted the armed forces command as saying 48 were killed and 150 were wounded in allied attacks.
APThe Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Barry launches a Tomahawk missile at Libya from the Mediterranean Sea.This afternoon, "over 110 Tomahawk cruise missiles fired from both US and British ships and submarines struck more than 20 integrated air defense systems and other air defense facilities ashore," said Vice Adm. William Gortney. The first missile hit about 3 p.m., he said.
"We are on the leading edge of a coalition military operation," Gortney said. "This is just the first phase of what will like be a multiphase operation."
He gave no immediate assessment of the damage the strikes inflicted.
The show of force from the international coalition followed defiant attacks earlier yesterday by Khadafy loyalists on the rebel-held city of Benghazi, on the eastern side of the country — an assault that only strengthened world leaders’ resolve to take on the dictator bent on crushing the opposition movement that has threatened his four decades of rule.
President Obama said military action was not his first choice.
"This is not an outcome the US or any of our partners sought," Obama said from Brazil, where he was starting a five-day visit to Latin America. "We cannot stand idly by when a tyrant tells his people there will be no mercy."
Obama insisted the United States would not send ground forces to Libya — though he said he was "deeply aware" of the risks of taking any military action.
Earlier, he had insisted the coalition was united.
"Our consensus was strong, and our resolve is clear. The people of Libya must be protected," he said.
France, Britain and the United States had all warned Khadafy on Friday that they would resort to military means if he ignored a UN resolution demanding a cease-fire.

The L*rd is not amused. And seeing the future, now come to pass ... neither am I.

I have been thinking the same thing!! When Neda was murdered before all the cameras, there was no response from the "global" community. No moves to protect people like her! There too afraid of that little twirp! Cowards! You can't say "these people deserve protection but these others don't". What's the rationale for that?

Why not Iran?
Because, the Islamic Republic of Iran has nuclear bombs.

We dont need another war particularly as cameron has just weakened our forces, but hey since when did it matter what the voters think. Italy obtains most of her oil from Libya through a undersea pipeline, and yet Italy did not join in the first wave of strikes, funny that. All that military hardware you Yanks and us Brits have sold the Saudies and they STILL won't use it in defence of other muslim people.

Yeah ... yeppers ... jeeess like all does' wuverly democracy protesters ... in Cairo. Standing idly by (well, some kept their video cams rolling). While Lara Logan was vaginally/anally/orally raped. Over, and over, and over again. Her genitalia then beaten ... with sticks. One of her breasts partially torn off. And ... when these freedom loving civilians were done? They urinated on her.

There is so much about this whole (fraudulent) escapade that thoroughly stinks.

I think that one of the possible reasons why they chose to "chastise" Libya and not Iran is because Iran could fight back with nuclear weapons. The response in this situation is bleeding hypocrisy.

SHOCK AND AWE IN LIBYA - WHY NOT IRAN?
Precisely. And what of Egypt? if and when the military opens fire on its citizens there? Or Saudi Arabia, or Syria etc.?
The "no fly" zone over Iraq did not stop Saddam from killing Kurds, and eventually the Arab Mideast began to criticize the "no fly" zone over Iraq. Gaddafi is Saddam by another name and may be what the Muslim Mideast deserves (remember he was once lauded cheered in the Muslim Mideast for his past jihad activities.)
What does the region deserve?
The question that is going to arise in the next few years, as the food and water crisis hits the region is: should the Kafir feed the region since it does not produce food, nor much else (except oil) and prefers its schools to be places for foot-binding the heads of its people? Will generosity validate the sick sense of entitlement, delusions of grandeur, and the delusions of persecution that seem to be hallmarks of this kissing cousins culture?

I hope that is not a widely held view Majumder, we did have an interest in protecting the oil, the Royal Navy was converted to run on it and it must be remembered we fought to protect freedom three times in 40 years useing it. The ruling families sometimes stayed friendly sometimes not, but thats life. Some of the best leaders although not democrats, were and are decent enough by local standards, and most of those undertook training at Sandhurst. As to why we are involved in Libya i believe most brits dont think it's where we should be after all it is a former colony of Italy.

Why not Israel? Why not in the defence of the people of Gaza? What is the difference here between Gazans and those in Benghazi? Israel certainly killed more innocent women and children in Gaza in 2009, that Gaddafi ever killed.
Posted by: Luft | Sunday, March 20, 2011 at 07:59 PM
Khadaffi killed more innocent women and women in a single Pan Am plane bombing than all the civilians killed by the IDF in Gaza in 2009.
Idiot.

From the lo and behold file..it's "no fly" in Iraq all over again in Libya...
Arab League condemns broad Western bombing campaign in Libya
http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/arab-league-condemns-broad-bombing-campaign-in-libya/2011/03/20/AB1pSg1_story.html?hpid=z3
"CAIRO—The Arab League secretary general, Amr Moussa, deplored the broad scope of the U.S.-European bombing campaign in Libya and said Sunday that he would call a league meeting to reconsider Arab approval of the Western military intervention."-from the article
Sure enough, the US is going to be in the same place we were with the Saddam "no fly" zone.
Why isn't the Arab League made to do this work? Let them do this job.
Soon we'll see the "finger-lady" and Imom rauf calling Gaddafi-duck a victim of "the King hearings" and the "no fly zone" an example of Islamophobia....and watch when the food crisis hits the Muslim Mideast and North Africa (where no wealth is created, other than oil, to buy food-unlike in Asia where wealth is being created by high-tech etc.) demand the less-than-human-Unbeliever-polytheists feed them, as they accuse "the Jews" of conspiracy to starve Mideast Muslims.
We are looking at a failed culture, and soon a food crisis in the region as the lunatics spit hate, sneer at the Unbelievers, threaten them, and pipe-dream about a caliphate.
Posted by: Frank | Sunday, March 20, 2011 at 10:22 PM
The IDF used more constraint than any army on the planet in trying to protect the lives of civilians in 2009. Gaddafi has massacred thousands. To claim otherwise is propagandized clap-trap.

Why Not Iran? Because Valerie Jarrett is Iranian Woman Of the Year and is Obama's closest advisor...seems to have more power to advise Obama on foreign affairs than Brzezinski.

You got to love it......I can't wait to see how the left spins that, as I've said before we should never have gotten involved. Now the media jihad starts, we try to help these people and get it stuck up our a$$, I say pull out and let Gaddafi have them and if the Islamists' don't like it let them deal with the problem themselves. Why don't they order they're moooslime pilots into the air. Let them risk they're lives.

Haven't we learned from Iraq? The "no fly" zone did not work and eventually the Muslim Arabs became critical of it. The same is happening with Libya.
The Arab league should impose the "no fly" zone. Period.
The US, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, had to play the role of policeman in a world where local conflicts that had been subdued during the Cold War suddenly burst forth, and that was especially true in the Mideast. The US had to play the role of policeman in the attempt to keep the world from descending into the kind of chaos that led to WW2. We are in the Mideast because of the global need for fuel.
Most of our oil comes from Canada, Mexico, Venezuela, and from our homeland. However, the so-called global economy is dependent on the regions' fuel. If we absent ourselves from the police role that will compel China and Europe to arm and police the Mideast.
The world will become a much more dangerous place after we relinquish our policeman role.
But we simply cannot continue to stabilize the Mideast. Chaos, food shortages, and eventually non-US intervention there is on the horizon. Other than oil, the region (except for Israel) produces no wealth (no high-tech e.g), and can't even feed itself as they spit hate and sneer at the Unbelievers (Jews, Polytheists).
The rise of Asia, the increased demand for food in china, is going to impact food prices in the Mideast and North Africa on a scale that will shock the region. It has already caused a crisis there. The crisis is not going away.
Just as the Mideast and North Africa have to face the total failure of their culture to produce wealth, we are going to have to face reality that we can't police the world, or feed the world anymore. Chaos is ahead for much of the world.
Posted by: Frank | Monday, March 21, 2011 at 10:05 AM
Zbigniew Brzezinski was the first to call the Muslim region (map below) "the Eurasian Balkans" and to warn (about 20 years ago) that it had to be stabilized or it could cause World War 3. The US attempt to stabilize this madhouse has caused us a lot of grief.
This Muslim region is a cauldron of ethnic and sectarian violence that is not going to be stabilized. The US government and people have to face reality that we failed to stabilize it.
Brzezinksi and others warned that it (like the Balkans in WW1) will invite "great power" intervention and conflicts if we fail to stabilize it, that the US is the only nation (after the fall of the USSR) that could project enough power to stabilize it.
I think we've failed. I think we are going to have to let chaos have its way and narrow down to a few allies (Japan, Israel e.g.) and relinquish our policeman role.

I agree with you totally, chaos is ahead for the world and a lot of it. I believe the failure you speak of was contemplating the attempt itself, it was over before it even got started. Our early leaders understood this. These people are tribal in nature and can't live amongst themselves in peace let alone shape their own future as a whole. Their problems are everybody elses fault, not their own. I honetsly believe that peace with them is not possible.
The time, effort, and money spent trying to stabilize the cauldron would have been better spent preparing for the boilover which I believe is coming soon accelerated by the leftwing/liberal leadership in control of this country right now. Your exactly right, its time to circle the wagons with a trusted few and hope and pray someone capable of leading the way comes to the forefront. The survival of our culture depends on it.
Posted by: Joe | Monday, March 21, 2011 at 12:43 PM
How naive all the talk of "nation building" (remember Al Gore talking about that once upon a time) in the region now seems as we face the tribal nature of the "Eurasian Balkans" and understand the dogmas of Islam. Even Bush I and Clinton were lured into Somalia with that ("nation-building") in mind, and the intervention in Somalia (to stop the killing) was a grotesque failure based largely on each Administrations' ignorance of Islam's doctrines.
Somalia was a bad omen of the total failure that is now unfolding in the region, as the violence spills over into Libya where the US imposed "no fly" zone will accomplish nothing. (The Arab League should impose the "no fly" zone and stop calling on the US to do the heavy lifting, and then sneer and blame the US when the policy fails.)
The problem is Islam. It has crippled the ability of the Middle East (except for Israel) to produce wealth, to have an educational system for the 21st century, and raise the standard of living of the people in the region (look at Egypt where 90% of the women have been genitally mutilated).
The region should be using Israel as its political-economic model, but instead the hairy-eyeball imoms call for its destruction. Beyond the Mideast, the entire Muslim region ("the Eurasian Balkans") is a menace to world peace.
As with you, I'm not optimistic re the outcome.

Israel has never intentionally targeted innocent Palestinian women and children, period. Hamas ONLY targets innocent Jewish women and children. EVERY civilian death that occurred in Gaza is the fault of Hamas, not Israel.
The same is true for every other group and country who have deliberately attacked Jews with the intention of killing them.
Three things that you need to know:
A. In Judaism, God and His Prophet command the Jews to love the stranger, to treat them as family, to not lie about them, or bear false witness against them, or kill them.
B. In Islam, Allah and his Prophet command exactly the opposite, declaring an eternal war against the Jews, that "War is deception," that Jews are descendants of apes and pigs, that no Jew can be called "innocent," and that every one of them are to be killed.
The Palestinians are taught virtually from birth to kill Jews. Hamas sends eight-year olds to military camps and trains them how to use AK-47's. They are taught that the greatest goal in life is to die while killing Jews.
In the first three decades of Israel's independence, IDF soldiers were dying by the dozens because they refused to return fire on PALESTINIAN CHILDREN shooting at them. If you think that being pelted with hundreds of stones is not lethal, ask some of the helpless victims stoned to death by Hamas.
Hamas murdered 181 of its own civilians - including women and adolescents - in cold blood during Operation Cast Lead because they were accused them of "collaborating with Israel" (no definition needed) based only on the words of two "witnesses."
And these murder victims were added to the total of civilians allegedly killed by the IDF.
Hamas has repeatedly stated on TV (see all of their YouTube videos) that "Death is an industry for the Palestinian people" and that the "Death of a Palestinian child is worth more than 10,000 jihad fighters" in propaganda, that is. They brag about using women and children as human shields.
They placed explosives under schools, mosques, apartments, and especially UN buildings. Then, these inhuman scumbags position themselves inside these civilian structures hoping to draw return fire from the IDF. As soon as they do, they leave by the back door and detonate the explosives, blaming Israel for "deliberately targeting women and children."
Since the UN and the rest of the world media BITE ON IT EVERY F-ing TIME, they will keep doing it.
The UN Security Council in 1947 issued Resolution 181 that called for the partition of the 20% of land that was left over after the illegal partition of the Jewish homeland that was recognized by international agreements, into a Jewish State and an Arab State (NOT a Palestinian state) on the land that was Israel 2,000 years before Mohammed was born.
Israel accepted the resolution and the Arabs did not, and promptly launched a war of extermination against the Jews whom they had already killed thousands before 1948. The Arabs, not the Jews, forced the Arabs living among the Jews to "get out of the way" and to return after the "Jews were driven into the sea."
The Jews begged them to stay and over 100,000 did stay in the nascent state of Israel. The Jews did NOT steal their land and drive them out of Israel. At the time of the first Jewish pioneers returning to their homeland in the mid-1880's, "Palestine" (the false name given to Israel) was a wasteland. The "Zionists" turned that wasteland into an oasis and brought in hundreds of thousands of Arab settlers from all over the Middle East with the promise of better jobs, better living conditions, and true freedoms.
Right before these seven (not five) Arab states launched their war of extermination - as was the way that Muslims began their conquest of the known world 1,300 years before Israel, they and eight other Arab and Muslim-majority nations expelled nearly one million Jews from their countries with nothing more than the shirts on their backs.
Israel absorbed them, whereas the 750,000 (max) Arabs also forced to flee from their homes (but with promises of a return to an "Arab Palestine," were NOT welcomed nor absorbed by their Arab "brothers." Only Jordan - the de factor Palestinian State - accepted them. The other Arab nations forced them to live in camps until they could try again to eradicate the Jews of Israel...in wars launched in 1949, in 1956, in 1967, in 1973, in 1987, in 2000, in 2006, and in 2008.
EVERY UN RESOLUTION issued subsequent to UNSC 181 has been to prevent Israel from winning the wars that were launched against it, and therefore, every UN RESOLUTION demanding Israel to withdraw from territories that it once owned, that did not belong to any other sovereign nation, and that fell into its hands as a result of having to fight a defensive war are ILLEGAL.
Imagine if the UN was in existence during WWII and that it demanded the US to cease fighting the Nazis and the Japanese and to return all territories captured from the Fascists and Imperialists back to them?
Israel is the only nation in the world that is penalized for defending itself, that is forced to return its land that the aggressors captured.
What is the deterrent here? The aggressors are rewarded for their aggression. Terrorism pays off, big-time.
No, the IDF does not target women and children and every drop of blood shed in Gaza falls on Hamas' head.
