Bottom line, this bully was a troublemaker. He should have been expelled from the school when he cut a chunk of hair off another girl in the class. That's what is wrong with this story -- the school's apathy and complacency towards violence.
But he pulls on a headscarf and he is charged with blasphemy? WTF?
"Hate crime" is enforcement of islamic law (sharia). Who decides whats a "hate crime"? CAIR? The Muslim Brotherhood? The OIC?
Why wasn't the boy charged with a hate crime when he cut the chunk of hair out of the other girl's head? The hate crime of misogyny. Perhaps she was overweight. Should he not have been charged with a hate crime against fat people?
Boy, 12, charged with hate crime for attempting to rip religious head scarf off head of classmate NY Daily News
A 12-year-old Staten Island boy was charged with felony assault as a hate crime for attempting to rip a religious head scarf off the head of a classmate on Wednesday, sources said.
Osman Daramy attacked the female student outside the Berta Dreyfus Intermediate School in Stapleton about 1 p.m., the sources said.
Osman allegedly punched and kicked the girl before trying to grab the scarf wrapped around her head, sources said. He was unable to remove the hijab during the tussle.
Cops also charged the hellbent schoolboy with aggravated harassment.
Sources said it was not the first time the boy had targeted the young victim and that he has harassed her at least four times in recent months. He was in trouble on Monday after he cut a chunk of hair off another female classmate's head, sources said.
A spokeswoman for the city's Department of Education said disciplinary action against Osman is pending.
Because he is a juvenile, the case will be handled in Family Court.

Besides, isn't Osman a Turkish name? ie. Muslim?

This male child may need some counseling but he doesn't need a hate crime label foisted on him that will follow him around for the rest of his life. The new Hate Crime legislation is overly broad and it tries to legislate hurt feelings and what a person thinks inside his head. It includes slurs toward every sub-class of the human condition, gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and religions like Muslims or Buddhist, anyone other than a christian white male. (I'm not saying the kid accused is either a christian or a white male).
He clearly needs some help but dragging this ugly law into Family Court is ridiculous. I hope next year that saner people will be elected to the Senate[read-Republican majority] and their numbers increase in the house[read-continued Republican majority] and a new President is elected so that this legislation can be "fixed".

Americans are being trained to see everything with sulking, bitter, paranoid Muslim eyes. At a glance, any ordinary American can see that this was an out of control and violent boy with serious behavioral problems. It takes the sharia pod people to see an 'anti-Muslim' hate crime. When our 'educators' are beyond the pall of basic common sense its home-schooling time people.

No doubt this 12 year old has got some serious behavior issues, but charging him with a hate crime is outrageous. The main focus needs to be his behavior in general towards others and not some attack on some religious practice.

If the tables were turned and the little girl was a white christian wearing a cross and the boy a muslim. The headlines would read this ...... "12 year old boy provoked by religous right".

So let me get this straighht, punching and kickiin a little girl ain't sh!t to TRYING to take her head scarve off?
Stop ALL hate crimes NOW!
Serious deal with this little repeat girl attacker. This is hate. ALL attackes are HATE.
No PIG is more equal than other PIGs!
Stop da madness!

Is it a "hate crime" if they are of the same religion, or is that an "internal matter". Or is this merely "energetic discussion" between two sects? Gotta hate these rules.... oops.

The boy has a moslem name. Perhaps Holder will remand him to his local Iman for application of real Islamic justice. Only fair you know.

That was my first thought also. Muslim-on-Muslim crime? Can Muslims commit hate crimes on each other?

The boys behavior is inappropriate and should not be tolerated but Felony Assault is a pretty harsh charge. What happened to common sense and discretion?

From the NY Daily News article:
-- [Frank] Davies (the boy's father) - "How could a Muslim have another hate crime against another Muslim?" Davies asked. "(Osman) is a Muslim...He's just a regular African kid. That's why they are out to get him. He's a victim," Davies, 32, added. He bought a plane ticket for his son to live with relatives in Sierra Leone (Africa) to escape the abuse he receives in school. The dad said he bought the ticket before his son's arrest. "They treat the African kids different," said Davies, flashing the April 17 ticket to Freetown. "Other kids mock him and the teacher never stuck up for him...I need to get him out of this country." --
The boy is a victim? Yeah right. A victim of islam is the way I see it. Send the troubled little punk to Sierra Leone first, then probably off to a Somali jihad training camp next (the muslim version of vocational school). In a few years he gets to come back to America as a full grown, even angrier well-trained jihadi killing machine. All fixed and ready to go to work. Isn't that special...?

The Daily Mail has even more tidbits about this story. Seems a girl joined young Osman in the hijab yanking attack. Wonder what her "I'm a victim" story will be?

How could this be considered anything except two kids with at least one and maybe two or more not behaving in the wimpy manner some adults, who probably are not fit to be near children let alone teaching them, would have them behave? The problem here is government interference in the operation and discipline in a school with the rules exaggerating the situation, of the conduct of children where no one was hurt, into a crime.
Charging a child with a crime for such an incident is no less than child abuse and it is the adults involved who should be charged and fired. When government replaces parents in the discipline of children outrageous behavior on the part of government is what you get.

For heavens sake. What is this hate crime crap? He shouldn't be touching other children but this is ridiculous. These hate crime bills need to be struck down. So one group is more protected in this country than another. If I were his parents, I would sue for this. Blasphemy? Felony assault? You have got to be kidding me? Pound sand. We don't have that in America. Tell these people to go back to the Middle East. I don't want this crap here. Any law like this needs to be struck down or repealed. If they don't like it here leave. They shouldn't have been let in here in the first place. Here that Durbin!

Osman or Othman (actually 'Othman) is a standard Arabic Muslim name. The third caliph was named Othman as well as the founder of the Ottoman (Othmani in Arabic) dynasty. And now comes word that the kids mother is Muslim.
You folks caught that detail right off the bat. Atta girl, Duvimon

Which brings up this question. Let's say a Turkish guy had been the one to point out the fact that Osman's name was Turkish -- would it have been appropriate to give him an Ataturk?

The kids name is Osman Daramy. Osman Mahmoud is a clan in Muslim Somalia. There is also a city in Christian Ethiopia, next door to Somalia named Moschea Osman. From the kid’s photo, with his long angular face, I see East African features.
Daramy (according to Wikipedia) is a common surname among the Mandinka people of West Africa.Mandinka children are given their name on the eighth day after their birth, Jews perform the bris (circumcision) on the eight day after birth. Coincidence? As Black Africans are Nubians (Shemites) this makes them all cousins of the Hebrews.
This makes me think the boy has an Ethiopian mother and a West African father.Moschea Osman in
Ethiopia is in a region that Muslim Somalia is currently trying to take from Ethiopia. Since Muslims commit so many atrocities in war, perhaps this boy’s family has suffered in Ethiopia.
Don’t know. Just saying. But this could account for his animosity towards Muslims

Both victims and perpetrators in the Darfur atrocities are muslim.
Victims are regarded as 'abid' (slaves or potential slaves) by those who regard themselves as 'arab'. The irony is that the perpetrators are sufficiently dark skinned that were they to go further north into the Middle East they too would be regarded as 'abid'.

Why is this a hate crime, you ask? Um, because that's what's in the NY law passed by the democratically-elected legislature and signed by the democratically-elected governor? If it's like most hate-crime laws, it doesn't criminalize hatred per se; it's an additional charge to another crime based on the circumstances of the crime, which in the eyes of the people of NY makes it a more serious offense. Sort of like the use of a firearm adds an additional charge when the crime is robbery.
Why was he charged with assault this time, and not before, you ask? Um, because kicking and punching people is more serious than cutting off a chunk of someone's hair? And we try to temper justice with mercy, especially in the case of kids?
You might not like the law, but I really don't see what religious codes have to do with anything here. And as for blasphemy, I think you're the only one using the word in this case.
You're so deep in the grip of your own hysteria, I don't expect to change your mind. But I do have to speak up when people say stuff like this.

I guess those evaporated after he was photographed in handcuffs and leg irons being escorted to an NYPD vehicle. Is that SOP for escorting a 6th grader?

Yes, I've read much about the attacks by Muslims against their fellow believers which go on constantly, as do their attacks on Christians in their countries. "First the Saturday people, now the Sunday people." Murder in the Dar al Islam is as common as breathing, it seems.
In my reply I was referring to the "hate crimes" law which makes such attacks crimes in the U.S. I should have put it into quotes. I wondered how a Muslim on Muslim crime would be categorized in the U.S. Although Muslims do seem to hate each other.

Only muslims practice hate crimes and only because they are Jealous. They have no other reason.
The Jews & Christians are not jealous of the muslims. No one envies them for anything. They are not even worthy of jealousy - that is the cause of their hatred.
They are jealous!
That is recognizable in any human or their group.
Don't give hatred any other reason. They choose it!
