In considering tonight's selection for the Atlas Saturday night feature, I could not resist choosing The Man with the Golden Arm, in light of the ugly display of the depraved moochers, looters, addicts, parasites and bloodthirsty thugs in Wisconsin. OT but related :)
The Man with the Golden Arm (1955) stars Frank Sinatra, Kim Novak and Eleanor Parker. Produced and directed by Otto Preminger.
The story deals with drug addiction, and just to show just how far down the rabbit hole our culture has crawled, the film was denied a screen Production Code seal. It's a dark and depressing account. Unlike the current culture, drugs are certainly not glorified, not glamourized .... the lurid is emphasized.
"A gripping, fascinating film, expertly produced and directed and performed with marked conviction by Frank Sinatra as the drug slave." Rotten Tomatoes
