This is pure chaos, and the media's delivery of such insane news in a sober and matter-of-fact fashion is even more insane.

WASHINGTON — Members of the NATO alliance have sternly warned the rebels in Libya not to attack civilians as they push against the government of Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi, according to senior military and government officials.

As NATO takes over control of airstrikes in Libya, and the Obama administration considers new steps to tip the balance of power there, the coalition has told the rebels that if they endanger civilians, they will not be shielded from possible bombardment by NATO planes and missiles, just as the government’s forces have been punished.

“We’ve been conveying a message to the rebels that we will be compelled to defend civilians, whether pro-Qaddafi or pro-opposition,” said a senior Obama administration official. “We are working very hard behind the scenes with the rebels so we don’t confront a situation where we face a decision to strike the rebels to defend civilians.”

The warnings, and intense consultations within the NATO-led coalition over its rules for attacking anyone who endangers innocent civilians, come at a time when the civil war in Libya is becoming ever more chaotic, and the battle lines ever less distinct. They raise a fundamental question that the military is now grappling with: who in Libya is a civilian?

Qaddafi. Qaddafi's a civilian. 

Finally, I understand what the left meant when they shreiked "quagmire" during the Bush years, and yet I haven't heard it uttered once.

Is it not a little late to show (faux) concern for civilians when the rebels and the bombing by our own forces have already killed so many people? And what about the 'rebels' specifically killing black africans, believing they are all pro-gadaffi supporters or mercenaries, when many of them were just ordinary people working in Libya.

Nigel Farrage of UKIP said a few days ago that there are 4,000 troops edging closer to Libya. So these Hitlerites - the UN, Obama, Cameron and Sarkozy, the manufacturers of this war, must have intentions of sending our troops into this quagmire. (G*d help Obama and Cameron if one drop of Forces blood is spilt - bring back hanging for Treason, I would gladly put the rope around their necks.)

Are there any normal, sane, moral folk around other than the ones participating in this blog? Why is no one standing up to these demented Fuhrers in the USA, UK and France? Why are we all allowing this to continue and where are the outraged voices of the opposition?

The French have fought an undeclared war by proxy against Gaddafi before. Look up the Toyota War.

Gaddafi tried a land grab in northern Chad and got a whupping in 1987.

He wanted the Aouzou Strip, territory that had been handed over to Italy after WW1 but returned to France after WW2. Territory was transferred to compensate a disgruntled Italy who had lost out when former German colonies were distributed between UK, British dominions, France, Belgium, Portugal and Japan despite Italy being on the 'right' side in WW1. Gaddafi decided that it was rightfully his, took advantage of a civil war in Chad, grabbed the territory in 1983, and carried on providing support to the Chadian rebels including air strikes.

France intervened militarily in Chad and halted the rebel forces who were aided by Gaddafi. For a time there was a ceasefire with rebels and Libyans occupying Chad north of the 16th parallel. Renewed attacks on Chad government forces in 1986 were followed by France imposing a no-fly zone over all of Chad and supplying Chad with MILAN anti-tank missiles mounted on Toyota Land Cruiser "technicals". Gaddafi had to slink back home in 1987 with his tail between his legs.

I wonder if talk about CIA in Libya is just smokescreen and France is training Libyan rebels in use of anti-tank missiles right now.

Wilders announces anti-Mohammed film

Freedom Party leader Geert Wilders is planning to make a follow up to his anti-Qur'an film Fitna. This time he will focus on the Muslim prophet Mohammed.

The controversial MP announced on Friday that his film on "the barbaric life and the sick mind of Mohammed" will come out in 2012.

Earlier this week, Mr Wilders said in weekly HP/De Tijd that he wanted a public debate on the prophet. He thinks such a debate would provide support for Muslims across the whole world who want to leave the religion. He says reading the Qur'an and looking at the life of Mohammed has made him aware that Islam is "dangerous".

Mr Wilders believes a debate is needed, because people who want to leave Islam risk their lives. He thinks ex-Muslims are heroes who deserve support.

In HP/De Tijd he says, "It's time we help these people by exposing Mohammed." In the article, he suggests that Mohammed suffered from a brain tumour which made him hallucinate and that he wrote down his hallucinations down as visions.

There was a great deal of commotion in the run up to his first film Fitna. However, once it was published on the internet in 2008, most people wondered what all the fuss had been about. A second film was planned for 2010, but the early elections meant a delay in its production.
