When leftists attack leftists, it's like a suicide bomb packed with nails.
In February 2010 Barrett Brown penned a love letter to Chuckie the Johnson in Vanity Fair. I wrote this about Johnson in an article in Big Journalism at the time, "Little Green Footfalls: Charles Johnson Hearing Goosesteps Again":
Recently the Los Angeles Times did a mind-numbing puff piece on him, and the pathetic Barrett Brown of Vanity Fair wrote a sycophantic piece about this slug whom they once reviled and despised. They were trying to turn Johnson into a recruiting tool for on-the-fence moderate bloggers and spineless right-wing bloggers.
Brown's Vanity Fair piece was in stark contrast to Jonathan Dee's much fairer and more accurate picture of the meltdown of Johnson in the New York Times, which came out around the same time. So I dismissed Brown as just another leftist journalistic propagandist. But now even Barrett Brown has realized that the lizard master is completely dishonest and unprincipled. Barrett wrote me this:
Do you remember the glowing Vanity Fair profile on Charles? I wrote that. You linked to it at the time. Came out right before NYT piece did. I thought he was an intellectually honest person because he changed his mind in public; turns out he's the exact opposite. His cohorts openly discussed calling the FBI on me several months ago. Seriously. Kilgore Trout, his moderator, alleged that I am working with the Russian mafia. My family was fucked up by the FBI with no conviction when I was a kid and I take that shit seriously, which is why I ordered the site to be attacked yesterday as a way of forcing a response. Both these guys are nuts. It seems that justice has finally been served in the strange and peculiar world of leftist dandies boxing without gloves. Chuck Johnson has been dethroned by Chuck Sheen as the interweb's favorite car wreck of the day. No rubbernecking, kids!
Barrett forwarded me this email exchange in which Chuck demands the IP address of someone who dared to disagree with him:
