Mandatory Arabic Classes in Public School in Texas

In a federally funded program, students will now be required to take Arabic. Mandatory Arabic? Your taxpayer dollars at work to advance Islamic culture. In addition to language, the grant provides "culture, government, art, traditions and history as part of the curriculum." Islamic supremacism on the march in the public square.

Mark Steyn discussed this very thing when we were fighting an Arabic public school in Brooklyn here in New York City (Pamela Hall led the charge and took the incriminating photo of the "intifada NYC'  tee-shirt that led to the prinicpal Almontaser's ouster).

Steyn explained the real implications of an "Arabic school and the Arabic language" here in my interview with him.

"It shows how we mischaracterized, we willfully misunderstand Islam. Yes, on the face of it, yes, Arabic is a language. In a sense there would be no difference between opening a foreign language school -- a Spanish language school or a french language school -- but in fact Arabic is more than a language. It is explicated the language of Islam, so in that sense it is part of the Islamic religious imperial project. Radical Islam advances through the Arabic language. And you go all kinds of places that aren't in the Arab world now, like Pakistan, Indonesia, Central Asia, the Balkans, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Canada and the United States, and you will here those Imams preaching in Arabic. Arabic is not just another language like French or Italian, it is the spearhead of an ideological project that is deeply opposed to the United States.

Mandatory Arabic Classes Coming Coming To Mansfield CBS (hat tip lizlyn)

MANSFIELD (CBSDFW.COM) – Some Students at Mansfield ISD schools could soon be learning Arabic as a required language.  The school district wants students at select schools to take Arabic language and culture classes as part of a federally funded grant.

The Foreign Language Assistance Program (FLAP) grant was awarded to Mansfield ISD last summer by the U.S. Department of Education.

As part of the five-year $1.3 million grant, Arabic classes would be mandatory at Cross Timbers Intermediate School and Kenneth Davis Elementary School.  The program would also be optional for students at T. A. Howard Middle School and Summit High School.

Parents at Cross Timbers say they were caught off-guard by the program, and were surprised the district only told them about it in a meeting Monday night between parents and Mansfield ISD Superintendent Bob Morrison.

The DOE has identified Arabic as a ‘language of the future.’ But parent Joseph Balson was frustrated by the past.  “Why are we just now finding out about it?” asked Balson.  “It’s them (Mansfield ISD) applying for the grant, getting it approved and them now saying they’ll go back and change it only when they were caught trying to implement this plan without parents knowing about it.”

Trisha Savage thinks it will offer a well-rounded education.  “I think its a great opportunity that will open doors. We need to think globally and act locally.”

Mansfield ISD says in addition to language, the grant provides culture, government, art, traditions and history as part of the curriculum.

Some parents had concerns over religion.  “The school doesn’t teach Christianity, so I don’t want them teaching Islam,” said parent Baron Kane.  During Monday’s meeting Morrison stressed the curriculum would not be about religion, but about Arabic language and culture, similar to the Spanish curriculum already in place in the district.

Kheirieh Hannun was born in the Middle East but raised in the U.S.  She believes giving students the option to learn Arabic will give her son and others like him the option to learn more about their culture.  “It was surprising, but I think it’s okay, and it will help come down on the stereotype.”   Hannun says she is hopeful the class could broaden the minds of not only students, but also parents.

The FLAP grant was awarded to only five school districts across the country, including Mansfield.

She has a friend who once worked undercover for the FBI. He is not retired. During his time with the FBI he infiltrated the Weather Underground. I feel like this is what happened when public schools made taking a language mandatory.
Why? Spanish, Italian, French, German, give me a break and you had to take it for three
years or so. This is the USA, the only language needed is English and very few people,
I am sure myself included have mastered the art. It's been watered down, slang after slang

loud. Give me a break. Where does this end? School districts need to be stopped dead in

Well I'm not too sure about the culture being taught but I approve of Arabic being taught at tax-payers expense. I assume learning a language is compulsory in America as - as far as I recall - it still is in the UK. Learning Arabic is far more useful than learning French or German. I think learning Arabic or/and Chinese should be the new placement languages. Learning to speak Arabic is very important during these times. Those who are aware of the history of Gitmo and the war in terror in general will know that in the first few years America was found to have almost no arabic translators and suffered because of this.

With increasing business being held in the middle east I think it also prudent to learn Arabic.

Remember all those videos that we are never shown where Islamist clerics call for violent jihad and outbreading in european countries etc? But are ignored by our media because they are not spoken in English? Would it not be a great thing to take this away from the enemy?

Do so on your own time, it's like having a hobby, and it should not be at the tax

The fact that they are making this mandatory has quite a feel of a broader victory for the Islamists. This is also a huge symbolic victory for them, in a number of ways. First, it opens the door for mandatory teaching at other schools and eventually nationwide. Second, few know that Hebrew was proposed as the official language by certain members of Congress during the Revolution. All of our major Universities required Bible studies, many have Hebrew words or phrases in their seal. Students had the option of delivering their commencement speeches in Hebrew, Latin, or Greek. Islamists wish to erase our history, and instead of having a choice of languages to learn, they will make theirs mandatory.

There are so few native born translators who know Arabic, that right now the U.S. Govt. hires those Arabic-English translators whose origin is the ME. They refuse to hire Israeli translators who know Arabic because that might offend the Muslims!
I think Arabic should be offered AS AN ELECTIVE starting in Junior High School, high school at the latest for the reason that we need more loyal native-born Arabic speaking translators. We need to be able to understand what they are saying and writing and translate it faithfully.
Back in 57, when Sputnik went up, the Govt. began hiring Russian-English translators to translate sci-tech. lit. from the Soviet Union. I studied Russian and after 2 years landed one of those jobs.
There's no advantage in NOT knowing Arabic. The enemy will continue to speak and write it, and the more we know about what they think, the better. However, care must be taken when teaching it not to glamorize the culture and, of course, not to promote Islam.

In Minnesota the schools receiving funding under this program have chosen to teach Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, and German. Who in fact decided to pick Arabic for the Texas schools?

I can't help thinking Spanish should be compulsory in addition to English, since we have become a bilingual society.

I teach my children at home as I mention in a previous post, if they learn Arabic it will be to protect this Country, not to change it. This is so crazy! You people are nuts! No where does it say that learning Arabic is mandatory, it says that it is one of the languages that would fulfill the mandatory language requirement. You people are so afraid, so prejudiced and, I'm afraid, so ignorant that you will believe anything this woman writes.
