The planned event is not to be an actual march, but rather a gathering of Muslims from across the US, at the Anacostia Park in Washington DC, July 4, 2011. We will come together to re-establish the feelings of brother and sisterhood among Muslim Americans, and to begin the difficult process of post 9/11 healing. Who we are One Million Muslims.org was founded by several Muslims who feel that it is time for Muslims to resolve ourselves to never again be left unprepared for the big challenges that face us and our families and children such as the backlash following 9/11. Nothing made it more clear to us that the Muslim community had almost no understanding of what role we would play in the broader international scheme to demonize Muslims and Islam, and to portray Muslims as enemies of the United States and the West, (supposedly because we hate freedoms), than the most recent spate of Islamaphobia that left several mosques destroyed and several Muslims subjected to violence. There was no adequate Muslim response. Only condemnation and appeals to the government, and law enforcement to protect us. There was no plan of action that was pro-active and aimed disseminating the truth in response to the lies, or using the US courts to silence the illegal defamation, misrepresentation and hate speech.

There was no backlash after 911.
No mosques have been destroyed.
The rare incidents of mosque foul play have been committed by Muslims.
But they do want to kill free speech by "using the US courts to silence the illegal defamation, misrepresentation and hate speech."

Most of the success of the ill conceived scheme to demonize Islam resulted from the rush to judgment that took place following 9/11, and the failed 9/11 investigation which wrongly concluded that Muslims had carried out criminal terrorist attacks on the US on September 11, 2001.

It wasn't criminal, it was an act of war, and it was Muslims who attacked in the name of Islam.

 At the rally, we will also declare to the world that Muslims are innocent of the crimes committed on 9/11 and we demand a new independent investigation and an end to the illegal wars.

Well, that sounds good too. But I think everyone missed my reference. Memorial Day is traditionally the day when all the Rolling Thunder guys show up on their bikes and the place is crawling with Vietnam War Vets. I was down there a couple of years ago handing out laminated business cards with the American flag on one side and a message on the other that said something like "As you remember the people who fought for our freedom this day please remember all the women throughout the Muslim world who are abused under the oppression of Islam". That one went over very well and the thing I noticed is here were a lot of guys that you wouldn't want to mess with in a back alley but kept saying to me "Thank you, sweetheart" or "Thank you, darlin'".
