Expect further chaos and violence with a weak, feckless leader of the free world. The NORKs would never pull this under a Reagan or a Bolton. It is outrageous that the Obama administration has not again designated the NORKs a state sponsor of terror.
The North says it won’t recognize a sea boundary drawn up by U.S. officials commanding UN troops at the end of the Korean War in 1953. It says the sea around the islands belongs to the North, and has vowed massive retaliation if the South again fires into the sea around the islands. The U.S. has about 28,500 troops in South Korea.
Weak Response
South Korean President Lee Myung Bak on Nov. 29 apologized for what he called the military’s weak response to North Korea’s Nov. 23 shelling.
North Korea’s attack on the fishing community and military outpost of Yeonpyeong was the first shelling of South Korean soil since the 1950-1953 war.
The poisonous fruit of Obama's capitulation to Russia and China resulted in further deterioration of America leadership. The Russians are demanding that South Korea not carry out military exercises. Russian U.N. envoy Vitaly Churkin said on Sunday:
"It's better to refrain from doing this exercise at this point in time," Churkin told reporters outside the U.N. Security Council chambers, where council members have been discussing the Korean crisis for eight and a half hours.
China and Russia Quit the Dollar China Daily
United Nations Security Council efforts to calm tensions between North and South Korea were stalled as China refused to support a resolution condemning the North for a Nov. 23 attack on a South Korean-held island.
China declines to join a majority of the Security Council members in condemning the North Korean attack, according to a diplomat present at the meeting who spoke with reporters on condition of anonymity. The Chinese mission to the UN didn’t respond to a telephone message requesting comment.
The OIC-driven UN is useless if it is not blaming Israel and working towards the delegitimization of the tiny Jewish nation and subsequent Islamic jihad-genocide.
Back in May, the North had torpedoed its corvette Cheonan in an unprovoked attack. And in March the North sunk a South Korean ship. The UN is worse than useless; they aid and abet the destroyers.
John Bolton has been warning us of this very thing for years. Indefatiguable and sagacious, Bolton has been urging Washington and Seoul that they must react vigorously.
To pull a salient quote from Victor Davis Hanson:
All I can make sense of is, he has a very different view of the world. This view is anti-platonic. And I say that, not to be condescending, but Plato said that the natural order of the world was chaos, it was war—peace was a parenthesis, it had to be achieved and worked at. I think in the Obama view that men like him that are charismatic, articulate, they can change the world because it's naturally a peaceful thing until people like George Bush rush in and through their stubbornness—"smoke 'em out dead or alive" vernacular—destroys it, but the fact of the matter is the only reason there is any semblance of peace and tranquility in the world today is because in places as diverse as the Aegean, planes over-flying in Greek airspace daily, where there's near fighting on Cypress, or whether we are talking about the Korean Sea and the Philippines and Taiwan and South Korean democracies not going nuclear because the United States is there, or whether Russian ships keep out of Norway every hour—all of that is predicated on the presence of the United States.
To be frank, or to put it a different way, Vladimir Putin doesn't give a damn that Barack Obama is African American. And the Chinese autocrats do not hear very well "hope" and "change"—it doesn't translate to Chinese very well—and the Europeans don't care if he has a nifty jump shot. All they want to know is half the world are vying to try to take advantage of regional opportunities if the United States is not there to stop mold, and to stop rust, which is the natural organic order of the world. They take advantage of it and our friends are there waiting to see which side to join. All of our friends in Europe know that, and Australia and South America. They don't have deities. Nations don't have deities like Barack Obama, they have interests. And their interests are predicated on who is going to win and who is going to lose. Into that void comes Barack Obama.
S.Korea island resident told to move to bunkers Reuters
YEONPYEONG, South Korea Dec 20 (Reuters) - South Korean marines have ordered residents of Yeonpyeong island to move to air raid bunkers in anticipation of a live-fire drill on Monday.
North Korea has threatened to strike if the South went ahead with the drill from the island off the Korean peninsula's west coast and in disputed waters between the rival Koreas. (Reporting by Kim Do-gyun; Writing by Jack Kim; Editing by Yoo Choonsik)
This is just the latest in the communist provocation. A South Korean soldier was killed and 13 others injured after North Korea fired dozens of artillery shells onto a South Korean island, setting more than 60 houses ablaze and sending civilians fleeing in terror back on November 23rd. The South, incomprehensibly, did not defend itself or respond. They should have retaliated disproportionately. Another classic example of Obama's failed leadership and impotence.
N.Korea Deploys Rocket Launchers Along West CoastNorth Korea has deployed multiple rocket launchers along the shore north of Yeonpyeong, Baeknyeong and Gangwha islands in response to a planned South Korean artillery drill on Yeonpyeong, government sources here say. The North earlier threatened an "unpredicted self-defense counterattack" to the drills.
A South Korean government source said, "After making the threat in a message sent Friday, North Korea raised the alert level at artillery divisions on the west coast and deployed the multiple rocket launchers." The source added the South Korean military is monitoring the situation.
The North also reportedly made coastal artillery ready to fire and put some fighter jets on the west coast on standby.
Back in June 2009, North Korea threatened to "wipe out" the United States in the event of a new war on the Korean Peninsula.
