Plastic bags to be put over Birmingham 'terror cameras' BBC

Bags are to be put over scores of surveillance cameras in parts of Birmingham with large Muslim populations, after local objections.

Safer Birmingham Partnerships (SBP) said 216 cameras were put up including covert ones, mainly in the Washwood Heath and Sparkbrook districts.

The cameras were financed through a counter-terrorism fund, but the SBP said they would tackle all crime.

Councillor Salma Yaqoob said people had lost faith in the authorities.

'Sneaky handling'

The Respect Party councillor for Sparkbrook said: "In terms of reassurance it's going to take a lot more than plastic bags.

"The residents have lost faith with the authorities for their sneaky handling of the way they went about this and will not be reassured until they have been told the locations of the hidden cameras too."

The Brits should immediately investigate those who objected to the cameras, and do it publically. I suspect she'd have a bigger one over the thought of putting the cameras in the areas of the people who are NOT likely to commit terrorism, but taking them down in the areas of the people who ARE. If the muslims truly cared about combatting terrorism they would applaud the hidden cameras as a way to uncover those who would seek to destroy British muslim relations through 'unislamic' terror (jihadi) acts. Unfortunately Big Brother will be watching us in the UK even more as the relentless Jihad against our way of life continues. However, given the fact that Muslim communities undertake a form of passive resistance when it comes to co-operating with the authorities (they don't co-operate with them as much as possible) - I believe the cameras should stay up in areas where the authorities believe Muslim extremists operate. It's not a question of erosion of civil liberties - it's simply necessary in order to protect the rest of us from terrorist attacks. Remove the cameras with the plastic bags over them. I live in a London that is full of cameras, you get used to it so as to not even think about them. They are everywhere. So why Muslims specifically want them covered in Birmingham makes no sense, unless the complainers have been pressured by their communities leaders complain and to get them covered up. This act in itself speaks volumes.

The United Kingdom is still majority indigenous Anglo Saxon whatever that really means as this island is a huge mixture anyway historically, though that is however Caucasian racially.
