On Sunday, June 6th, a multi-ethnic, multi-racial coalition of Americans opposed to Islamic violence and intolerance rallied at the site of the World Trade Center in New York City.
9/11 families were joined by immigrants from India, Russia, Egypt, Israel, Africa, Iran and Europe to show opposition to the construction of a mega-mosque at Ground Zero. Others flew in from overseas to speak or just to share their particular ethnic communities’ experiences at the hands of moslems.
These are parents and spouses of firefighters killed on 9/11.
Read this letter I received. Mark, we will not let you down. We will use every avenue, legal, cultural, and political, and after that we will sit down in front of the Burlington War Memorial, the moms, the sisters, the kids, the grandmas, the God Star moms, the patriots, and we will not move. They will not build it.
As someone who has worked Downtown since 1983, lives/owns in Battery Park City since 1988, used to work at 1 WTC till 1999, knows 62 friends that were murdered on 9/11, who's wife was crossing West St at W. Thames St when the 1st jet hit, and then got caught in the dust cloud when the 1st building came down and ran south to Battery Park ending up on a Tugboat over to Liberty State Park, while I knew nothing about her whereabouts, who walked from 390 Greenwich St to where she worked-43rd between 8th & 9th(NY Times advertising), and finding no one there who saw her, and then walked South & East to the East River to get back to BPC from the South End, who got to my building seeing & hugging my doormen and asked them if they saw my wife, of which they said no, who went upstairs to see if she was there, of which she wasn't, who couldn't communicate with extended family on LI because of no phones, who then walked to the Deli in BPC(S. End & Albany) seeing all the Cops & Firemen, who spoke with the Egyptian Christian who worked behind the counter at the Deli telling me how he had to leave his country because of this madness, who then walked East crossing West St near the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, who stopped near Moran's Church(Bar) on Washington St looking North and seeing the smoldering ash of friends, who then walked over to Broadway & Wall, and talked to some Cops about the madness, who then walked over to the Seaport and stopped in at Mark Joseph Steakhouse to have a few numbing beers with 1 of the owners, who then walked back North to 22nd & Park to Brother-in-laws apt, arriving around 9pmish, to find out that one of my wife's friends finally made contact with her cell phone and that she was alright, who then attended NUMEROUS EMOTIONAL FUNERALS for all of my murdered friends, who had to move out of BPC for 4 months, who CANNOT stop thinking about all the GREAT people who were murdered, who coached kids in HS Football(St. Anthony's HS) who went to the Middle East to fight for our freedoms, who has friends that are all upset by the POLITICAL CORRECTNESS that is within the halls of Government, who has been reading your info since 2007, who has told many people about you and your website, who told the Russian Jewish guys at Ray's Barber Shop on Chambers St-between W. Broadway & Church about the protest and Ray attended, and said he saw many people that he knew, who continues to read and try to help my way by informing people about what's really going on, who was just told by a friend that his sister-who is a Tribeca resident-recently made contact with you, and has expressed her support, who you asked to speak in September..... I know I'm rambling and could go on and on and on......But I guess what I am writing is that when I watched the 34 minute Video about the protest with all the speakers, I was moved to CHILLS & TEARS!!!!..... As the Downtown resident and employee that I am, I am writing to say I SUPPORT YOUR EFFORTS WHOLE HEARTEDLY!!!!!!!!
Thanks for your time....
