This was an act of war against Israel. Hamas supporters planned an armed assault, which included the murder of captured Israeli heroes. They almost succeeded. (hat tip Jack)
Will you get the story from the media? Not a chance. AP is reading like al jazeera. And this from the Crescent News Network -- CNN:
International condemnation poured in Monday after Israeli soldiers stormed a flotilla of ships carrying aid intended for Palestinians in Gaza, leaving at least 10 people dead in the resulting violence.
And check out the new anti-semites: liberal reaction vs. conservative reaction to the jihad, Jew hating flotilla story.Israel claimed it was defending itself, with the Israel Defense Forces saying the soldiers' lives were in danger after they were attacked with "severe physical violence, including live fire, weapons, knives and clubs."
In the rewriting of reality, a brazen, bloody attack is called a humanitarian mission. If the incompetent and corrupt media could get past their blinding anti-semitism, the West might have a shot. But their self-imposed sharia, "do not defame Islam," has made them the global jihad's most powerful weapon. In the war of ideas, we are thoroughly outgunned.
A brutal ambush at seaRon Ben Yishai recounts bloody clash aboard Gaza-bound vessel: The lacking crowd-dispersal means, the brutal violence of ‘peace activists,’ and the attempt to bring down an IDF helicopter
Israel News Our Navy commandoes fell right into the hands of the Gaza mission members. A few minutes before the takeover attempt aboard the Marmara got underway, the operation commander was told that 20 people were waiting on the deck where a helicopter was to deploy the first team of the elite Flotilla 13 unit. The original plan was to disembark on the top deck, and from there rush to the vessel’s bridge and order the Marmara’s captain to stop.
Officials estimated that passengers will show slight resistance, and possibly minor violence; for that reason, the operation’s commander decided to bring the helicopter directly above the top deck. The first rope that soldiers used in order to descend down to the ship was wrested away by activists, most of them Turks, and tied to an antenna with the hopes of bringing the chopper down. However, Flotilla 13 fighters decided to carry on.
Navy commandoes slid down to the vessel one by one, yet then the unexpected occurred: The passengers that awaited them on the deck pulled out bats, clubs, and slingshots with glass marbles, assaulting each soldier as he disembarked. The fighters were nabbed one by one and were beaten up badly, yet they attempted to fight back. However, to their misfortune, they were only equipped with paintball rifles used to disperse minor protests, such as the ones held in Bilin. The paintballs obviously made no impression on the activists, who kept on beating the troops up and even attempted to wrest away their weapons. One soldier who came to the aid of a comrade was captured by the rioters and sustained severe blows. The commandoes were equipped with handguns but were told they should only use them in the face of life-threatening situations. When they came down from the chopper, they kept on shouting to each other “don’t shoot, don’t shoot,” even though they sustained numerous blows.
‘I saw the tip of a rifle’
The Navy commandoes were prepared to mostly encounter political activists seeking to hold a protest, rather than trained street fighters. The soldiers were told they were to verbally convince activists who offer resistance to give up, and only then use paintballs. They were permitted to use their handguns only under extreme circumstances.
The planned rush towards the vessel’s bridge became impossible, even when a second chopper was brought in with another crew of soldiers. “Throw stun grenades,” shouted Flotilla 13’s commander who monitored the operation. The Navy chief was not too far, on board a speedboat belonging to Flotilla 13, along with forces who attempted to climb into the back of the ship.
The forces hurled stun grenades, yet the rioters on the top deck, whose number swelled up to 30 by that time, kept on beating up about 30 commandoes who kept gliding their way one by one from the helicopter. At one point, the attackers nabbed one commando, wrested away his handgun, and threw him down from the top deck to the lower deck, 30 feet below. The soldier sustained a serious head wound and lost his consciousness.
Only after this injury did Flotilla 13 troops ask for permission to use live fire. The commander approved it: You can go ahead and fire. The soldiers pulled out their handguns and started shooting at the rioters’ legs, a move that ultimately neutralized them. Meanwhile, the rioters started to fire back at the commandoes.
“I saw the tip of a rifle sticking out of the stairwell,” one commando said. “He fired at us and we fired back. We didn’t see if we hit him. We looked for him later but couldn’t find him.” Two soldiers sustained gunshot wounds to their knee and stomach after rioters apparently fired at them using guns wrested away from troops.
2 errors
During the commotion, another commando was stabbed with a knife. In a later search aboard the Marmara, soldiers found caches of bats, clubs, knives, and slingshots used by the rioters ahead of the IDF takeover. It appeared the activists were well prepared for a fight.
Some passengers on the ship stood at the back and pounded the soldiers’ hands as they attempted to climb on board. Only after a 30-minute shootout and brutal assaults using clubs and knifes did commandoes manage to reach the bridge and take over the Marmara. It appears that the error in planning the operation was the estimate that passengers were indeed political activists and members of humanitarian groups who seek a political provocation, but would not resort to brutal violence. The soldiers thought they will encounter Bilin-style violence; instead, they got Bangkok. The forces that disembarked from the helicopters were few; just dozens of troops – not enough to contend with the large group awaiting them.

We have to stop thinking that "peace activists" are peaceful, or believe in using peaceful means to achieve their goal. They are anything but.

If Israel was what the anti-Semites and pisslims want to make it there would be no pisslims in the Middle East. If the pisslims had had the chance there would be no Israel.
The current situation is the proof that Israel is the good guy in this picture even to its own detriment.
The so called “aid flotilla” is just an act of war by the same pisslim criminals that have been trying to destroy Israel since 1948.
The only thing that has changed is that quite a lot more people all around the world have turned into Jew hating thugs just like out of the 1930’s germany.
As somebody recently Twitted: “There is no rational explanation for the world's disproportionately morbid interest in Israel's every move. Call it what it is: Jew hatred.”
Is ANY other country scrutinized and subject to the same irrational standards as Israel?

Unfortunately, since people still use the media for their daily dose of Israel bashing, there's little anyone with a trace of decency can do when the rabid left front actions using sincere though misguided activists.

Funny how the western media is carrying the jihadists' water. Hate propaganda by the useful idiots on the left is passed off as objective journalism.
This is where we'll lose the war-the battlespace of ideas because so few have the courage to simply speak the truth. As long as the MSM takes the side of our enemies in every conflict, we'll be at a major disadvantage.
I knew things would transpire this way and this martyrdom operation would serve as more grist for the 'destroy Israel' machine.
So long as the leftists remain in power, the narrative will be controlled and shaped by them to all our collective detriment. This wasn't just an act of defamation against the IDF/Israel, it was an attack on truth, freedom, democracy, on all of us, by the left and their Islamist masters.
This is why it is important that the supporters of Israel-whatever their political/religious background, lobby hard for accuracy/fairness in the media but we also need to get jobs in the MSM and politics where we can make a difference. As well we should have demonstrations/rallies in solidarity with Israel and denounce jihadist attacks-as this clearly was.
It seems incidents like this are bringing us closer and closer to an all out war between Islam and the West...I'm for it, but our side needs to be more educated and ready to fight. It'll have to wait until our Islamist president has left office.

Most salient points have been made. I will only add, here are the basic points:
1) Does a State of Israel have the right to exist as a homeland for the Jewish people, to be sovereign, control its immigration policy, and specifically continue to serve as haven for those Diaspora Jews or ex-Israelis who wish to live in it?
2) Assuming 'yes', then do we permit the world to define our rights to sovereignty in an entirely different way than for any other state? That is, to define them for us, to intervene constantly despite very restrained efforts at self-defense? This is the question my leaders must answer; do they wish to create a true sovereign state out of today's semi-ghetto, at least as we are treated by the int'l community, so called;
3) Most of the media reveals itself as flagrant fellow travelers of the worst sort of Islamists. This is not new, but even to me shocking;
4) Will Israeli leaders now call out Turkey - and Egypt - for serving Iranian interests and those of Jihad? Will Netanyahu sanction Turkey in some way, and also punish Egypt for its malicious role in the NPT debacle?
I guess the final question is if people inside Israel will one day take undemocratic action inside the country to effect some of these changes, or will sit and watch if/as Bibi and successors continue to show self-restraing in the face of the barrages of hatred. In other words, relative passivity in the face of int'l assaults on our legitimacy is capable of alienating nationalist Israelis further from the gov't, with consequences that are also uncertain.

From what i have read in the news reports is that the Israeli's boarded those ships in INTERNATIONAL WATERS. If that's the case than i think that Israel made a big mistake. They could have made a valid case if they boarded those ships in Israeli waters but the moment they attacked those ships in international waters they made a big P.R. blunder. What they did now looks like an act of piracy.

I think that the intention of the so-called "peace activists" was solely to provoke a reaction by committing violence. After watching the video, here and elsewhere, the yellow journalists have left me feeling disgusted. The IDF guys were clearly in the right. The weasels on the boat were not. They deserved everything they got. There actions were reprehensible, at best.

Lol, great poem Pamela.
Celsius, Gaza is controlled by an internationally recognized terrorist group-Hamas which has in its charter a declared intent to destroy Israel. As a result of the terrorist and rocket attacks by this group against the Jewish homeland, Israel has imposed a blockade in order to defend itself-which every state obviously has a right to do.
This attempt to break through the blockade was deliberate and its goal was to undermine Israel's security and its legitimacy for self-defence, it was also an act of war. In fact if Israel and the West simply acknowledged their enemies are at war with them, they would've annihilated Hamas already. The only thing stopping them is the refusal to accept reality, the will to fight and permanently defeat their foes. Such incidents will keep going on until we 'infidels' take the initiative in this war.

I notice Obama always is in hiding before these things happen, he will be mute, gauge the political winds, then speak harshly about Israel because that's who he is. He knows these things are going to happen before they do. He knew about the balls bomber, he knew about Times Square...I notice this around 9-15-08 after (he knew) about the planned financial attack $550billion withdrawn in 3 hours, he was strangely silent. His silence speaks of guilt.

the IDF has been mal-affected by the leftists in the gov't. they are too careful resulting in death of jewish soldiers. before they boarded from the helicopted they should have demanded all of the passangers lay down on the ground and insisted that any attempts to approach soldiers would be met with live fire. and then they should've followed through.

pamela, a, pv, carmen, ...
it is obvious that those who were on board the "flotilla" were spoiling for a fight, as is obvious from the film that carmen refers to. and, the black and white film shown by the israelis seems to indicate that the fight was pressed by the "peace activists" upon the israeli soldiers as soon as they touched down on the decks.
yet, none of this should have come as a surprise to israeli military commanders and planners, and they were gravely remiss in not anticipating such a mob reaction from the muslims and activists on board. to have put those young men on the decks of those ships without them being in full battle dress, locked and loaded was just plain negligent, and could have caused some of these kids their lives, instead of the injury they did suffer.
the international law in this is interesting. some have called this interdiction of the flotilla by israel a violation of international law, and interference with the rights of the flotilla to travel on high seas. i suspect, however, that when the feeding frenzy of the left is over, and the orgy of calling israel murderers is done, a cold and sober examination of the facts and the law will probably determine that israel rightly asserted a right to interdict shipping it perceived as violating an announced blockade it has on war materials against the west bank/gaza.
the israels announced the blockade, announced that they would enforce it, and gave the ships the right to dock at a port where they could inspect the cargo.
seems up to hoyle, and international law, to me.

p.s. i hope whoever made the decision to put those kids on the decks of that ship wiht those cut throats is in the used car business tomorrow, where he or she belongs. whoever it was, is not fit to command troops.

mitch, jane, revnant dream, ....
the barbecue was apparently held at the home of marty nesbitt, a young black business man who business appears to be working for public agencies and swinging deals with public management and private institutional money, and somehow getting relatively wealthy himself in the process.
this is his page at "barack book," sort of a face book for the upwardly mobile leftist politician, http://www.barackbook.com/Profiles/MartinNesbitt.htm . he looks young and prosperous, and lists valerie jarret and barack obama as "friends."
his main claim to fame, however, was the recruitment of patty pritzker, heiress to the hyatt hotel fortune, as a chief financial officer in the obama campaign. again, he sits on boards of public agencies, and handles money, and plays hoops with the resident of the united states.
he lives in obama's neighborhood, and across the street from louis farrakhan.
and, he works in real estate. odd, how everybody obama knows works in real estate.
jane, you raise the possibility that obama knew all of the events that transpired with the israelis boarding the flotilla vessle were going to happen, and that he knew it was going to happen well in advance of the events.
i am not sure that the logic of the situation compels that conclusion, because for it to do so obama would have possessed knowledge of the israeli operation to interdict the flotilla, and perhaps have had some knowledge of its operational details.
without more, that seems to me speculation that cannot be even propped up by logical inference or deduction from the known facts. i don't see anything in the facts that would reveal obama or the u.s. knew anything about the israeli side of hte events, and given this administration, i cannot fathom why the israelis would have said anything to us beforehand.
and, you ascribe to him complicity, or guilt, presumably by way of this knowledge.
it seems to me a hard case to make.
which brings us to louis farrakhan. an important man in black politics in chicago, and in the united states, and well connected in the world as a leader of islam.
mr. nesbitt's neighbor. mr. obama's neighbor. and, mr. obama's benefactor, and, i suspect, though i cannot prove it, mr. obama's handler throughout a good deal of his life. see trevor loudin, at new zeal, a blog that has examined mr. obama's past with farrakhan and the valerie jarret family for several generations now.
was mr. farrakhan at that barbecue? i would love to know the guest list, know who was there, and who wasn't. was farrakhan there? was william ayers there?
as for myself, i cannot fathom louis farrakhan not being there. he lives across the street. he is central to obama, perhaps more so than reverand wright, and he has closer ties to obama, than wright, through obama benefactors & supporters percy sutton and khalid al monsour (a found of the black panther party, friend, benefactor and criminal defense attorney for huey newton, another founder of the black panther party), ... , al mansour being a devout muslim and rabid anti semite.
this brings us to the events of the night of the barbecue. the press corps was covering it, ... , sitting slavishly and obediently in a bus outside where the party was being held, and from what i can gather, having absolutely no access to it. what they were to learn being hauled around in a bus, i cannot fathom.
they were escorted by secret service agents. three in number, from what i understand.
when they were "let off the bus," which description i find statling even in today's america, they were soon accosted by the fruits of islam, ... , excuse me, fruit of islam, mr. farrakhan's personal and private body guard, who asked him to leave.
a minor pissing match between the secret service and the gathering forces of the fruit(s) of islam occurred, resolved by a call from a pastor in detroit telling the fruit of islam that the secret service were good guys.
hey, i am not making this up.
my question is precisely this.
why were the fruit of islam even mildly concerned by a bunch of sheep like white reporters being hauled obediently around in a bus, like lambs to the slaughter, parked in front of farrakhan's mansion, ... , and across the street from nesbitt's, ... , unless they were worried that it somehow implicated the safety of louis farrakhan. in the accounts of the events that i have read, it seems as if at one time there were in the neighborhood of 22 fruit(s) of islam around the bus, all giving each other high fives and gesturing broadly and talking loudly.
they were not worried.
they were not frightened.
not the fruit of islam.
they were protecting louis farrakhan, and providing a screening diversion from what was going on at the barbecue, and keeping the poor little white children reporters glued to their seats in the bus.
in short, they were screening farrakhan's presence with obama.
what other reasonable inference is to be drawn? they didn't want the press to know that farrakhan was home? it is his house, for crying out loud. where else does he live? oh, yeah, across the street with the nesbitts?
i think the only reasonable inference is that farrakhan was with obama.
talking politics, and talking religion.
i think it is crucial to our understanding of what might have transpired between them, that we ferret out, however possible, if william ayers were there as well. mr. ayers seems to have fallen out of favor as of late with obama, and obama with he, mr. ayers uttering things that indicate that he has his nose in something of a twist. and, i don't know if he has shown up on the white house guest list as often as farrakhan, as of late.
i did not know at first, in my little heart of hearts, whether obama was more a radical socialist or more a muslim. it would appear to me, that if ayers were not there, that mr. obama has gone more into a muslim mode as of late. if mr. obama now possesses the ability to raise money through people like mr. nesbitt, with a little help from the pritzker's of the world, what need has he of the 60's retread revolutionaries, they of the now pot bellies and thinning gray hair, and the need for heart medication 3 times a day.
i think mr. obama's personal taste runs more toward s.e.i.u. union thugs and fruit of islam thugs, than it does to retread radicals.
so, in sum, it seems to me illogical that farrakhan was not there.
now, do we have any evidence to support a reasonable or logical inference that obama, farrakhan, nesbitt and company knew any of the plans of the various turkish muslim thugs/agitators/warriors to attack israeli troops and martyr themselves if indicted by the israeli navy?
that is a bit thin at this point, to put the best light on it. we know nothing of it.
does this, therefore, make the quite plausible and logically demanded meeting between farrakhan and obama meaningless, and not fertile ground to speculate upon or substantiate?
no, it most certainly does not.
though farrakhan and obama may not have known anything about the interdiction and its probable consequences, the attitudes and policy directive coming out of washington d.c. viz a viz israel and hamas are certainly to be shaped by the obama association with the likes of farrakhan, percy sutton (who defended malcom x), and khalid al mansour (lawyer for saudi princes, friend and lawyer for huey newton, and co-founder with newton of the black panthers, when al mansour was known as don warden.)
birds of a feather flock togehter. obama certainly seems to flock with these people.
birds of a feather share the same foreign policy assumptions. we have seen time and again obama's hostility towards israel, so much so that benjamin netanyahoo seems openly to regard obama as enemy, and so much so, that hamas, as of late, has taken to openly stating that they regard the u.s. as an ally against israel in the peace process.
i do not know that obama and farrakhan new in advance of anyone's operational planning with regard to the flotilla, ... , and rest assured, the turkish thugs planned for their attack on anticipated interdiction, hence the little songs of being muslim warriors, mohamed's warriors.
but, it does seem more than probable, that reasonably astute observors of the international scene could have fairly anticipated these outcomes with some thought. the israelis said they were not going to give way on the blockade, and the "peace flotilla" types made no secrets of their aims.
they promoted confrontation.
so, in sum, it makes very little difference for obama and farrakhan to have "known" about all the events before they happened, because they still are "guilty" of the policies that obama intends to impose upon israel for defending her borders, asserting her sovereignty, and acting to prevent the smuggling of war materials into gaza and the west bank.
i think farrakhan there. logic seems to impel that conclusion.
and, i think obama muslim. and, acting in favor of islam, promoting islam, and protecting its most repressive regimes, as he has done entirely with iran, and to the detriment and death of many brave iranians who opposed and fought, and died doing so, the iranian mullahs during the uprising.
not only is obama a muslim, but he is a very conservative one.
obama will entertain the aims of islam throughout his administration, and will promote islam throughout it.
his association with farrakhan is entirely consistent with these observations. as with percy sutton, and as with khalid abdul al mansour.
john jay
milton freewater, oregon usa
p.s. you see, mr. obama is guilty of being muslim, and of betraying u.s. foreign policy interests. whether he "knew" of the flotilla results, he "knows" full well what is in his heart, and he knows full well what is in farrakhan's.
they dream of a sharia ruled america. plain, and simple, to my mind.

i can only conclude after reading three or four of your letters that you are something of a dupe.
the ships involved her were offered safe passage into a port where the cargo could be offloaded and processed according to embargo, and safe passage from port for all passengers.
they were notified of the embargo, and notified not to enter center waters.
then, and only then were they boarded.
members of the crew of the vessel immediately attacked israeli paratroopers with axe handles, trench bayonets, sabers and knives and an israeli firearm was taken from a paratrooper and fired upon israeli troops.
one israeli soldier was thrown from an upper deck onto a lower one, and apparently several received slight stab wounds.
only then, from idf accounts, did the israelis fire upon their assaillants.
when the situation was controlled, the ship was taken to harbor, and those wounded, both idf and the shipboard passengers/crew/thugs were taken to hospital, and treated.
and, no bodies of the dead were thrown into the ocean.
nor were any persons subjected to torture as was klinghoffer before he was shoved overboard, having a gun pointed at his head and threatened before he was killed, specifically because he was jewish.
as said above, you are a dupe, and a not particularly adept or bright one at that.
