"Over 150 youth and student activists gathered at Norman Thomas High School in New York City from March 5-7, 2010. YDS activists and progressive youth converged to discuss how to amplify left-wing pressure on the establishment. These young radicals came from Texas, Indiana to Kansas, Florida, Rhode Island, Oregon and more." Young Democratic Socialists
Corrupt, criminal ACORN official Bertha Lewis spoke with radical Dr. Cornell West at a public high school, Norman Thomas High. "Young Democratic Socialists: Real Change for a Change." Why are they allowed to use public school property to have a socialist convention? This is seditious infiltration -- they should meet in secret, in caves where they belong.
The Norman Thomas High School is a public school in New York City. Is it not against every basic principle of this fair nation that a public school would be hosting this poison and destroying our fine young minds? (hat tip Laura)
In his address, Dr. West (Honorary Co-Chair of Democratic Socialists of America, YDS’ parent group) urged the crowd to not rely on messiahs or leaders. He stated, fittingly at a school named after a Socialist Party of America leader, the leadership of the American democratic socialist movement had shifted from Eugene Debs to Norman Thomas to Michael Harrington. Now, he said, from them it falls onto “us.” The gathering’s young activists are ready for such a privilege, responsibility, and challenge. The recent actions of YDSers (see below) for accessible higher education tell the powers-that-be we’re ready for fight for real change…for a change
A full conference report will be up shortly, but for now check out a review of the DSA members Frances Fox Piven and Steve Max plenary from Alternet, DSA member Christine Kelly and Liza Featherstone on College Affordability on YouTube, and DSA member Stephen Eric Bronner and Christian Parenti on the war machine under Obama also on Youtube.

Last summer, the Young Democratic Socialists voted to make “Free Higher Education” a national priority. When March 4th was declared “National Day of Action to Defend Higher Education” YDS activists at William Paterson took charge. They led over 300 students in a solemn mock funeral marking the death of affordable college tuition. Many students normally inactive in social justice joined the rally to express their disgust at usury lenders and complacent administrators. Check out this short YouTube of YDS National Co-Chair Mike McCabe firing up the crowd.

Is it any wonder that the children are illiterate and uneducated?:
Stats from 2006-2007 school year:
That compares with the national average of $9,666 per student. New York state topped the list, spending $15,981 per student, while Utah spent the least: $5,683.
Check it out for Springfield , MO--2007 numbers
Springfield............students in district...24,696 ...amount spent per student $ 7,505
New York City...... students in district.. 999,150......amount spent per student $16,443
Now that is over 100% more being spent per pupil. yes cost of living is much higher than here-a lot higher so I give them 100% more but still, $9,000 more per year?
i'm just saying that here you don't have to worry about your kid getting stabbed at school. Not getting stabbed frees one up to learn.
It is child abuse what the state is doing in public schools that school was listed as better than 1% of other schools in district of 100,000.
