Aqsa Parvez was brutally murdered by her devout Muslim father and brother in December of 2007. A year after her honor killing, Aqsa lay in an unmarked grave. Honor killing victims are undeserving of a headstone or marker. They are invisible, they shamed the family, they never lived. This is Islam.
Now it appears her murderers will not come to trial until 2007. Unmercifully murdered in 2007. Trial to being in 2011. Gender apartheid in Islam is ignored.
Atlas readers joined me in an effort to purchase a stone for Aqsa. The cemetery worked with me up until the murdering family put a stop to the headstone. When we attempted to purchase a plot, any plot, near Aqsa's poor, beaten body, we were told we could not. Everything was owned by the Islamic Society of North America.
Our struggle continued. For the full story go here.
Alleged ‘honour killing’ trial won’t start until 2011A Mississauga father and his son charged in the 2007 alleged "honour killing" of Aqsa Parvez will stand trial in 2011. (here)
“She was scared of her father: He was always controlling her,” said Dominiquia Holmes-Thompson, a friend and classmate at Applewood Heights Secondary School, where both were Grade 11 students. “She wasn’t allowed to go out or do anything: That’s why she left.”
We did not give up. We succeeding in honoring Aqsa. The Aqsa Parvez Peace Park was erected in Pelham, Canada on September 18, 2009. And the Aqsa Parvez grove of trees in being planted in American Independence Park in Jerusalem. It should be completed sometime in 2010 or 2011.
