I have said time and time again that the line in the sand is free speech. Without freedom of speech - game over. It is shocking to me that this is not splashed across the front pages of US newspapers and network news programs. Why is the silencing of Robert Spencer this past week not big news? It is big news. It damages Americans in the most fundamental ways.
Ayn Rand said, "the principle of free speech is not concerned with the content of a man's speech and does not protect only the expression of good ideas, but all ideas. If it were otherwise, who would determine which ideas are good and where forbidden? The government?"
Rand further said at a lecture, "Political Vacuums of Our Age", presented to a group of women in journalism in Indiana in 1961: "Once a country accepts censorship pf the press and of speech, then nothing can be won without violence. Therefore, so long as you have free speech, protect it. This is the life-and-death issue in this country: do not give up the freedom of the press - of newspapers, books, magazines, radios movies, and other other form of presenting ideas. So long as that's free, a peaceful intellectual turn is possible.
When did fascism become en vogue in this country?
In fact, we had planned to speak on the lack of transparency of the House since Democrats took control. We had planned to criticize Speaker Pelosi for repeatedly denying Members, the media, and the public to right to read legislation before it was voted on. We were set to discuss House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer’s statement last week that if his Members were required to read the Democrats’ healthcare reform package before it was voted on, it would fail.
So the Speaker obviously feels that if the public is truly aware of her party’s agenda, they will reject it. She is now making sure the public is kept in the dark by trampling the centuries-old democratic traditions of the House.
UPDATE: FREE SPEECH, FREE THOUGHT ALERT:
TC writes that the so-called "hate crimes" bill - authored by life-long democrat politician and dictator of the Peoples Republic of Massachusetts Kennedy - is being attached to a Defense Authorizations 2010 bill by fellow "democrats" in the Senate today.
Do we need to stop blatant racism, bias, incitement to hatred and violence against any and all? Yes! But this legislation will allow wide-open interpretation of what constitutes a "crime of hate," e.g., telling the truth about Islam, speaking out against pedophilia, child molestation, enslavement of children for prostitution, etc.
It is reportedly on its way - through the Senate - today, but very connivingly attached to the Defense Authorization bill for 2010.
Piggybacking controversial act onto military funding legislation
The Democrats are expected to sneak the hate crimes bill through the Senate as early
as tomorrow after they offered it as an amendment to the Defense Authorization
bill.
The Senate
approved the same hate crime legislation last year as part of the military
funding bill, but it was never reconciled with the House's bill.
The current
House version – H.R. 1913, or the
Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2009 – was passed
Now the
Senate is considering the military appropriations bill, or S.1390, and the Senate "hate
crimes" act, or S. 909, may be passed as an amendment
soon.
The "hate crimes" legislation now faces its best chance in years to become federal law.
Read the whole thing. The Dems are so slimy in everything they do. All crime is hate crime. Hate crime is a ruse to criminalize thought and speech.

Is it not obvious that Obama is circumventing our democratic institutions to create a dictatorship? How else can one explain the unprecedented 32+ czars he has appointed that are not under any congressional oversight, or the joining of the State with big Corporate against the small businessman that is the backbone of social fabric, or the building of the ACORN brown shirts (a pincer movement; Obama on top down, his brown shirts from bottom up). Before the election democrat party operatives openly said that this time they planned to take power and keep it.
This is now it happened in the 1930's, the establishment of National Socialism by entering via democratic institutions then circumventing and neutralizing those democratic institutions. This was always destined to come to America from the Left. All the founding documents and major players in the history of National Socialism are on the Left (the historical revisionism has confused everyone on this).
Thinking that Obama is a Progressive Socialist and Marxist keeps one blind. The playbook is National Socialism. Here is the greatest irony: the Left thinks it is in control, but the moment it gained political control and started the circumvention of democratic institutions it came under the unconscious control of the built up passions and blood lust for payback that it has whipped itself into over the last two decades. There is great danger ahead, and much suffering to come.

CONgress opposite of PROgress !
If "hate bill"-obsessed Congress can't protect Christians from "gays" as much as it wants to protect "gays" from Christians, will Congress be surprised if it can't protect itself from most everyone? It's little wonder that liberals want to make America gun-less! If "hate bills" are forced on captive Americans, they'll still find ways to sneakily continue to "plant" Biblical messages everywhere. By doing so they'll hasten God's judgment on their oppressors as revealed in Proverbs 19:1. (See a related item titled "David Letterman's Hate, Etc." on web engines.) Since Congress can't seem to legislate "morality," it's making up for it by legislating "immorality"!

10:30pm, Thursday 16 July........ ON THE SENATE FLOOR AS I TYPE........
Tune in to CSPAN2 and watch your 1st Amendment go bye-bye.
The FULL Matthew Shepard Hate Crime Legislation is attached to The FY 2010 Military Appropriations Bill.
The way to stop this now is to let it all become law and the first person arrested for speaking/thinking takes it straight to The Supreme Court.
Actually, there is another way to stop it.... but I won't go there.

Is it constitutional to 'tar and feather' our speaker Nazi Lugosi??? I sure hope it is!

"Monday night Democrats voted to shut down the U.S. House Representatives rather than allow a handful of Republican Congressmen to speak on the floor."
And what did the loyal lapdogs, the willing slaves of the Republican party do about it?Nothing! 'Cause that's all they're good for any more. Any Republican who is a true patriot would not still be in Washington. He would be at home organizing his State's secession.
Time to change the game. Stop lending legitmacy to this socialist coup. Every single Republican in Washington, D.C. should just go home and let all of this "legislation" be passed entirely by the Democrats. They took an oath to support and defend the Constitution; yet, none of the recent legislation, the TARP funds, the bailout, the Healthcare bill, the hate crimes bill, and most of the federal budget is constitutional. Rather than risk the consequences of a dramatic gesture to show the federal government for the totalitarian junta that it has become, they continue to sit at the table, hoping someone will throw them a bone or a scrap.
GOP - Good old pushovers (or any other "P" word you care to substitute). Either lead, follow, or get the Hell out of the way!

Over this week, a writer put out a story in which he referred to the GOP as the "GIP." His initials were the "Grand Irrelevant Party." Before he explained it, I thought it would've meant the "Groveling, Impotent Party." Any which way, you have to wonder if they're being blackmailed and intimidated into silence by Obama's goons?

friends:
with the passage of such a bill, and the efforts by demo's to have the a.g. given the authority to name "domestic terrorists" along with a concomittant curtailement of civil rights, with the shenanigans of acorn and the census, ... , is there any basis for not saying that the radical left wishes to impose tyranny on this country. (do not forget the "fairness doctrine," nor the importation of foreign law to reign supreme over our rights and liberties protected by the bill of rights.)
if this bill passes, it means simply that the republican party has either not the will nor the ability to protect us from these ravening beasts.
it is up to us.
if that is the case, let the games begin.

"Hate Bill" Favoritism
If "hate bill"-obsessed Congress can't protect Christians from "gays" as much as it wants to protect "gays" from Christians, will Congress be surprised if it can't protect itself from most everyone?
