Human Rights Watch, which has been uneven in its condemnation of Israel and its silence on human rights violations in Islamic countries, speaks out:
"We want Iran to calculate what I think is a fair assessment that, if the United States extends a defense umbrella over the region, if we do even more to support the military capacity of those in the Gulf, it's unlikely that Iran will be any stronger or safer because they won't be able to intimidate and dominate as they apparently believe they can, once they have a nuclear weapon," Hillary Clinton today.
This is a major shift in US policy on a nuclear Iran and a stunning endorsement of Ahmadinejad.
Stop the insanity. Instead of addressing the nuclear weapons program directly, Obama intends to kick start the nuclear arms race in Iran. The latest obfuscation from the quisling in the White House speaks to a Gulf defense umbrella for our "Middle East allies in the region". Now who would that be, in Obama's twisted perception of the world? We can safely assume he does not mean Israel. Who then? Wahhabi Saudi Arabia? How does one defend against an incoming nuclear bomb?
Not only does this most obviously put the free world in jeopardy, but the Iranian people as well. Clearly the Islamic regime would not hesitate to threaten their own population with nukes.
And a tangential point - WTF happened to Hillary Clinton? I never liked her, but she almost appears drugged. Who defanged her and why? She has become an Obama doormat. It's striking.
The U.S. is “working to upgrade the defense of our partners in the region,” Clinton said during a televised town hall forum in Bangkok. “If the U.S. extends a defense umbrella over the region, if we do even more to support the military capacity of those in the Gulf, it’s unlikely that Iran will be any stronger or safer.”
President Barack Obama’s push to persuade Iran to abandon its nuclear ambitions in return for expanded ties has been hindered by political turmoil in the Islamic Republic following its presidential election last month. Expanding military assistance to Iran’s neighbors would entail an increased U.S. commitment in an area central to world energy markets.
Speaking later in Phuket, Thailand, where she is attending a joint meeting of the 10-nation Association of Southeast Asian Nations and the 27-member Asean Regional Forum, Clinton told reporters that her comments didn’t constitute a change in U.S. policy in the Middle East.
“I am simply pointing out that Iran needs to understand that its pursuit of nuclear weapons will not advance its security,” she said. “It faces the prospect if it pursues nuclear weapons of sparking an arms race in the region.”
Blah blah blah. This is terrible. We are paving the way for an Islamic nuclear war on the world.
