As sad as the passing of Farrah Fawcett (anal cancer) and Michael Jackson (drug abuse) is, the media is breathing a heavy sigh of relief (as I am sure the jihad US President is as well).
The media is devoting their entire newscasts - yesterday the death of Ed McMahon, today Farrah and then Michael Jackson (of natural causes, I might add) - to these "superstars".
Sadly missing from the nightly newscast is the latest on the hundreds killed, possibly thousands detained and injured while marching for freedom in Iran. These freedom fighters are the true superstars. Hollywood is entertainment (though rarely now). The tragedy of the massacres, brutality, and beatings in Iran should carry much more importance. The inane drone of Shep (he had to let go of the Governor Sanford story) lamenting the "tragedy" of Jackson is surreal.
Michael has been on an impossibly difficult and often self-destructive journey for years. Michael Jackson's former publicist, Michael Levine.
The real tragedy is that the Iran story is dead ............... at least for the dinosaur media.
Sharpton has the mike ..................

pamela:
does that mean it didn't happen? that it isn't happening now?
it happened. it won't stop happening. people will not stop wanting to be free. someday they will topple the theocracy, if not sooner.

I hope you don't mind, but I quoted this posting in full over at my site because it exactly expresses what I think--I could not have put it better.
Your work and efforts throughout the whole Iranian crisis so far are greatly appreciated.

I just sent an e-mail to FOX and CNN and said do not forget about IRAN>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>how long do you think this coverage of Michael Jackson will be? I mean no disrespect and I feel for his family, I am old enough to remember Michael Jackson as a child, him and Donny Osmond were my all time favorites....... but we have work to do.
Also, on another note... Regardless how anyone feels about Michael, does anyone except me find the hypocracy of the media in all of this? The media has been destroying Michael Jackson for years and years. Geraldo is on FOX now, and he has been awful to him in the past.... I'm just saying.

What revolution in Iran? Our own King - the self-described King of Pop - has died, so the media must cover this 24 hours a day to the exclusion of all other worldly news. The fact that Jackson also happened to be wacko and a homosexual pedophile doesn't seem to bother the masses too much. The MSM is pathetic.

You are correct jayweegee.. they are pathetic.. And I feel so powerless to do anything, I believe that is what gets me the most.

We know in world the passing of Michael Jackson is not of the utmost newsworthiness, but I was a fan and felt he was sincere in his quest to live out a childhood he felt he was cheated out of. He lived as he pleased so it was strange when we got the recent report of his conversion to RoP. All I could think of was he did it to save his skin since RoPers stick together. A RoP guy from overseas claimed Jackson owed him money and Jackson was to have a comeback, presumably to pay the guy back? Hope there's an autopsy report in news soon. We don't know these celebrities but we often feel as if we do. True fans will buy the special People, Us editions and watch tv specials. Real journalists should be reporting on the revolution front and center.

Michael Jackson is dead and I'm glad. Farrah Fawcwtt is dead -- who cares? Neda is dead and I care.

This post pretty much summarizes everything which is wrong with what the mainstream media outlets choose to cover these days. Just as another example of such irresponsible media coverage, the CEO of Pajamas Media noted yesterday, correctly, that Mark Sanford's affair had wrecked our priorities by giving the MSM an excuse to get Iran out of the headlines.
Though not following in the MSM's footsteps is something anyone would expect of AtlasShrugs anyway, thanks Pamela for continuing to be among those who devote time and effort to covering stories and events that do matter.

I don't know if I can add anything to what has been posted, but the mullahs are breathing a sign of relief in Iran. If they had realized how a celebrity death would muzzle the world press, they would have had someone in Hollywood murdered 12 days ago.

This reminds me of the OJ Simpson chase and murder trial.
The incessant coverage of the same damn thing over and over again shows what a sick society we have become. Simply disgusting!!
I e-mailed Fox News several times about my feelings and then turned off the TV.
I continue to follow the Iranian slaughter threw my internet. Michael Jackson had the best of the world. He had the freedom of choice. He was NOT a victim.
My prayers and thoughts are for the Iranians.

A couple of comments:
Great thoughts here, but being posted on the wrong place. I got slightly beat up when I said the same thing as Pam on SFGate.com (San Francisco Chronical) I'm sure all of us have local web sites were we can point out at sad as death can be, he was an entertainer, nothing more, and REAL news is news that affects world events. I pointed out IRAN the Trillions being spent here at home and Korea, and compared to MJ death, what stories would still affect us in 1 5 and 10 years?
Got slammed, but 60% positive rating - maybe someone pasued to think that MJ's hero worship and media coverage was taking from real events.
Along the same lines, and in argeement with Moonbeam's comment on OJ - Project Censored out of Sonoma State puts out a yearly report on the most "censored" news and why - kinda left leaning, but still good insight on why stories are picked and the self-censorship in the media. MJ's death (like OJ's chase and trial) are what's called "junk food news" fills airtime, is cheap and people can't get enough, but doesn't do a thing for your mental health or inform you of events that affect your life.
Another problem is "news abuse" like the poor girl Nancy Holloway in Aruba a few years ago. Yes, VERY tragic she died, and the investigation should continue, but we heard DAYS of coverage that had NOTHING new. As a good mother should, Nancy's mom admitted she was beating that media drum in order to draw attention to her daughter's case (I don't blame her) but the Media kept on it partly because Nancy was very good looking - didn't hurt that she was blond and white, with some great photos.
Same thing here in the Bay Area - Media all over the Laci Petterson case; cute WHITE pregnant wife goes missing, then washes up in Susian Bay (northen half of San Francisco Bay) what you didn't hear was the OTHER pregnant woman who washed up less than a quarter mile from Laci during that same time frame, also murdered while pregnant - maybe no one noticed because she was hispanic and didn't have any photos showing how cute she was. :-(
Point is broadcast media all about eye-candy. If there's no video it doesn't get covered. People standing outside the hospital AFTER MJ died - how is that news?
Anyway, if we have the time to bitch about it here, "preaching to the chior" we have the time to bitch about it elsewhere among the great unwashed masses.

Do you realize that in an Islamic country Michael Jackson would have been beheaded? They do not tolerate Homos or dancing or even singing. Mohammed hated music and at the sound of a voice singing or a few notes from a flute, he would cover his ears with his hands. That's why no music was allowed in Afghanistan, not even folk songs, the Saudis wanted a "pure" Islam. Osama bin Laden's brother said that in his house in Saudi Arabia no music was allowed. There is no music in a mosque. Someone likw MJ is anathema to Islam, yet he was thinking of joining the Moslem Brotherhood and had Islamists as bodyguards for a while.
For me MJ was just pathetic.

Wait a minute, WAIT a minute!!!
IN regards Sarastro's comment about MJ and Is-lame: I kinda wondered the same thing when MJ converted to Is-lame some time ago (anyone else remember?), I was thinking he was going to give up music (or at least the type of music that made him famous) if anything, he'd start producing that pig-squealing stuff that the former cat stevens put out.
Wasn't MJ Muslim? Why didn't anyone object to an autopsy? I hear a lot of discussion about lab reports that will take 4-6 weeks - doesn't that require samples? Blood? Isn't that also against Is-lame (only a little sarcastic, I'd really like to know the "rules")
Interesting in a train wreck sort of way - still a media circus that is now competing with Sanford's sex life, and not a word on Iran.
In contrast, 30 seconds tops on FF's funeral arrangements - private, no media, please let is morn in peace. WORLD of difference.
