PESHAWAR, Pakistan -- Ayman Udas, a rising female vocalist in
Peshawar, the capital of Pakistan's Northwest Frontier Province, was shot at her
home, allegedly by her own brothers.
Her death has rattled the city's
jittery artistic community, as local musicians and dancers in Peshawar -- a city
renowned for its vibrant artistic life -- face increasing pressure as the region
falls under greater Taliban influence.
Some attributed Udas's death to
the Islamist militants, but her husband told reporters that his wife was killed
because she broke family traditions.
A beautiful woman in her early 30s
and mother of two, Udas recently remarried after a divorce. Her two brothers,
Alamgir and Ismail, disapproved of her divorce, remarriage, and her artistic
career, all of which disgrace a family's name in conservative Islamic society.

Pakistani singer -- had recently given her first television
appearance. In one of her more popular songs, "Mra shum ashna khu pa jwando
ki usam, janana sta pa waswaso ki usa," she sings about the importance of
courage, even to the point of defying death.
Her death "is absolutely
unacceptable," Ahmad Ali Adil of the University of Peshawar told RFE/RL's Radio
Free Afghanistan, calling the crime "a murder of humanity." He said that unless
society changes, several other female performers will face similar problems.
Meanwhile, Artists are coming under direct threat in Taliban-controlled
areas. In January, a dancer's bullet-ridden body was left in the center of Swat
Valley's capital of Mingora -- not far from where Udas grew up -- with a note
warning locals that "un-Islamic voices" will no longer be tolerated.

New York, April 30, 2009—With a military government that severely restricts Internet access and imprisons people for years for posting critical material, Burma is the worst place in the world to be a blogger, the Committee to Protect Journalists says in a new report. CPJ’s “10 Worst Countries to be a Blogger” also identifies a number of countries in the Middle East and Asia where Internet penetration has blossomed and government repression has grown in response.
“Bloggers are at the vanguard of the information revolution and their numbers are expanding rapidly,” said CPJ Executive Director Joel Simon. “But governments are quickly learning how to turn technology against bloggers by censoring and filtering the Internet, restricting online access and mining personal data. When all else fails, the authorities simply jail a few bloggers to intimidate the rest of the online community into silence or self-censorship.”

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) strongly condemns remarks made over the last
few days at various appearances throughout South Florida by Dutch
Parliamentarian Geert Wilders. In his speeches, he claimed that "Islam is not a
religion" and "the right to religious freedom should not apply to this
totalitarian ideology called Islam." Mr. Wilders also stated that the Koran is
a book of hatred, and that Mohammed was both "a pedophile and a warlord."
Israel has no greater friend on the International stage than the Honorable Geert Wilders. Here is what Wilders said in Florida about Israel:
Ladies and Gentlemen, there is one country in our Western Civilization
that has been forced to fight the forces of Jihad for its values since
the very day of its existence: Israel the Canary in the Coal Mine. Let me
say a few words about that wonderful country.
I had the privilege myself to live in Israel for a few years and since
then I have visited that country many many times.. Why? Because I love it,
I do love Israel.
However, in Europe, being Pro-American, being Pro-Israel makes you an
endangered species. Israel is a Beacon of Light in an area, the Middle

Islam forces Israel to fight. Israel is not just fighting for itself,
Israel is fighting for all of us, for the entire West, just like those
brave American soldiers who landed in Sicily in 1943 and stormed the
Normandy beaches in 1944.
Young Israeli men today, young Israeli Women today, are fighting for our
freedom, are fighting for our civilization, and like Bosnia, like Kosovo,
like Nigeria, like Sudan, like the Caucasus, like Kashmir, like Southern
Thailand, like Western China and the South of the Philippines, Israel is
situated exactly on the dividing line between Dar al -Islam, the Islamic
World and Da al-Harb the non-Islamic World. It is no coincidence that it is
precisely this dividing line, where blood is flowing and war is raging in
many many areas.
And, we have to get rid of that politically correct
fallacy that it is all about separate conflicts, it's not. Let us please
allow ourselves at least to see the big picture, which is, that all those
conflicts, have to do with Jihad, Jihad in the spirit of Mohammed.

ADL 'strongly condemns Geert Wilders' message of hate against Islam'
WASHINGTON, April 30 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) today commended the Florida office of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) for condemning the anti-Islam hate of a speaker who was recently given a standing ovation at a synagogue in that state.
Earlier this week, CAIR called on members of the Jewish community to condemn "Nazi-like" statements by Dutch extremist politician Geert Wilders made recently at a Palm Beach, Fla., synagogue. In the speech, Wilders claimed that "Islam is not a religion" and "the right to religious freedom should not apply to this totalitarian ideology called Islam," all to the applause of the audience.
"The ADL strongly condemns Geert Wilders' message of hate against Islam as inflammatory, divisive and antithetical to American democratic ideals. This rhetoric is dangerous and incendiary, and wrongly focuses on Islam as a religion, as opposed to the very real threat of extremist, radical Islamists."
CAIR touting American democratic ideals? Now that's rich. They invoke freedom of speech to kill freedom of speech.
"We commend the ADL for its repudiation of Geert Wilders' Islamophobic views and ask all those who promoted his message of hate to recognize the negative impact such intolerance has on our society," said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper.

Yet ADL ignores the plight of Turkish Jews, defends Erdogan, and apparently
still believes Erdogan’s “moderate Islamic” regime remains a committed ally of
Israel. Is this silence on Turkish Antisemitism, and the immoral denial of the
Armenian genocide Foxman’s Faustian bargain for Turkey’s dubious “support” of
Israel?
As a Jew, I find the ongoing efforts by Mr. Foxman and the ADL to deny
recognition of the Armenian genocide morally repugnant, ignorant, and
particularly inappropriate for an organization geared to reducing, as opposed to
abetting and fomenting Antisemitism, and other forms of irrational hatred.
When Iranian government official Ahmad Samavati arrived in Washington, D.C.,
in February at the head of a five-man negotiating team, he thought he had an
offer the Obama administration couldn’t refuse.
The Iranian regime was going to turn over scores of top al-Qaida operatives,
including some on the FBI’s “Most Wanted Terrorists” list.
To Samavati’s surprise, the State Department officials he met declined the
offer. “They told him they did not want any al-Qaida people. They told him they
didn’t want them in the United States,” an Iranian source familiar with the
negotiations told Newsmax.
The decline, and the very fact that the Iranian regime sent Samavati to
Washington in the first place, shows the profound policy shift that has occurred
in both Tehran and Washington since Barack Obama became president.
But Washington seems to be going in one direction and Tehran in another.
In the annual report on terrorism it released last April, the State
Department blasted Iran for its unwillingness to cooperate in arresting,
rendering, or controlling al-Qaida members operating from its territory.
“Iran has repeatedly resisted numerous calls to transfer custody of its AQ
[al-Qaida] detainees to their countries of origin or third countries for
interrogation or trial. Iran also continued to fail to control the activities of
some AQ members who fled to Iran following the fall of the Taliban regime in
Afghanistan,” the report stated.
Obama’s determination to shift gears on Iran is no secret.
He announced his intention to negotiate with the regime during the
presidential campaign, and he has repeated that determination many times since
taking office.
But no one at Foggy Bottom will comment on why the State Department refused
the Iranian offer in February, despite numerous phone messages and e-mails
entreaties.
To piece together this story, which goes beyond the public policy statements
from the administration, Newsmax has sought out Iranians with personal knowledge
of the secret negotiations, including some who work closely with the Iranian
government and current and former U.S. officials in the military and
intelligence community.
Persian-language Web sites also have detailed leaks from Tehran.
At the time Samavati came to Washington, the State Department was still in
the throes of a “policy review” concerning Iran.
So on one level, his offer was premature. But beyond that, the Obama
administration, like the Bush administration before it, may be simply too
disorganized to coordinate a government-wide response to such a forward-leaning
proposal, a source close to the negotiations suggested.
Freedom of expression is under attack. That is the theme I
am addressing here in America this week as part of the Free Speech
Summit being held in Florida under the sponsorship of the Florida
Security Council. And it is clear that a serious discussion of the
threats to our freedoms in the West cannot come too soon.
For example, my friend Rep. Adam Hasner, the majority leader of
the Florida House of Representatives was attacked in a press release
issued by the national office of the Council on American-Islamic
Relations (CAIR) on Monday for daring to appear at a private event with
me this past weekend. Because of that appearance, CAIR is demanding
that Rep. Hasner step down or be removed from his position.
This attack on a friend and fellow legislator is of grave concern to
me. CAIR’s assault on Rep. Hasner strikes at the very heart of our most
basic freedoms. In fact, it is but the latest episode in that
organization’s long-running and determined effort to silence its
critics. Indeed, CAIR seeks to suppress all those who dare to challenge
the theo-political-legal program that authoritative Islam calls
“Shariah.” In so doing, they are seeking to impose what amount to
Shariah blasphemy codes.
It is especially important to note that Adam Hasner is not only
being attacked for comments he made that are deemed offensive by those
who seek to impose Shariah in America. His career is now being
threatened for comments made by others in his presence – in this case,
by me. Thus the Islamists are infringing not only on this country’s
constitutionally protected freedom of expression but also freedom of
association.
If a high-ranking public official – elected by the people and
appointed to his leadership position by his peers – cannot speak
honestly and openly about his concerns, and do so in places and the
company of his choosing, without fear of suppression or other
retribution, who among us is safe?
I know these threats firsthand. Even before the
international release last year of my short documentary film, Fitna, I
have faced constant death threats and protests. My name has appeared on
assassination lists. I have been subject of an Al-Qaeda death fatwa. I
will be charged with blasphemy and contempt of Muslims by Jordanian
prosecutors. I face prosecutions in my own country and elsewhere. I was
recently banned from the United Kingdom because the Home Secretary
believed my mere presence in the country constituted a national
security threat.
In this trying time let us recall that in the darkest hours of
World War II, when the world faced a global threat from German Nazism,
Italian Fascism and Japanese Imperialism, British Prime Minister
Winston Churchill challenged his people to rise to the occasion and
fight. He told them, “Never, never, in nothing great or small, large or
petty, never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense.
Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might
of the enemy.”
This is why I am in America this week talking about the fight we now
must wage in the West to defend our liberties. Freedom of association
is one of the basic liberties guaranteed not only by the US
Constitution but by the European Convention of Human Rights. And yet
CAIR wants to silence and punish Rep. Hasner for associating with me.
If America needs a poster child for the threat to our freedoms from
Islamic extremism, no better example than CAIR could be found.
This episode underscores that the threat to freedom posed by
creeping Shariah imposed by CAIR’s type of stealthy jihad is not just a
problem in the Middle East, or Europe. It is also a problem in America.
I will not be bullied by Islamic thugs who want to use our freedoms
to destroy those very same freedoms. And I will not stand by as they
seek to do it to others.
Founded and directed by members of the international network of the
Muslim Brotherhood, CAIR has an explicit agenda to subvert our freedoms
and impose Islamic Shariah law on non-Muslims. This is not speculation
on my part. This is the testimony of one of CAIR’s founders and
chairman emeritus, Omar Ahmed, who told a California audience in 1998
that this was their agenda. “Islam isn't in America to be equal to any
other faith, but to become dominant,” he said. “The Koran, the Muslim
book of scripture, should be the highest authority in America, and
Islam the only accepted religion on Earth.” When CAIR officials say
that this is their ultimate objective, we should believe them.
In just the past few weeks, the Council on American Islamic
Relations has sought to silence another courageous lawmaker, Rep. Peter
King, the ranking member on the Homeland Security Committee in the US
House of Representatives. His “offense”? Rep. King correctly observed
that CAIR and other Muslims were not providing enough assistance to the
law enforcement authorities in combating terrorism-related activities
in American mosques.
CAIR has attempted to silence other critics, as well. They have sued
bloggers; they have defamed journalists who have asked too many
questions about their terrorist ties; and they have tried to intimidate
publications that have published articles challenging their putative
“civil rights mission.” If they get away with it, CAIR will seek to
threaten the careers of more politicians with the courage to say things
and associate with those of challenge Shariah and the effort to impose
it in this country.
It is utterly hypocritical that, on the one hand, CAIR claims to be
defending freedom of religion in attacking Rep. Hasner when, on the
other, they actively seek support from Islamic regimes that are among
the worst of the worst human rights abusers on the planet – and
notorious for suppressing religious freedoms.
I have been told that in an Arabic News article that CAIR officials
have solicited and received financial support from Saudi Prince
Al-Walid Bin Talal, whose country outlaws any religious expression
except its own Wahhabi strain of Islam. You can’t even own a Bible or
wear a cross in the country run by their patrons, and yet CAIR wants to
lecture us about religious freedom?
The land for CAIR’s Capitol Hill office in Washington D.C. was
purchased with a $250,000 donation from the Saudi-backed Islamic
Development Bank and the deed to their headquarters is held by the
foundation of United Arab Emirates Defense Minister Gen. Sheik Mohammed
Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum. Sheik al-Maktoum’s country prohibits any
non-Islamic religious proselytizing and threatens anyone caught with
distribution of non-Muslim religious literature with imprisonment.
In September 2006, CAIR hosted an exclusive dinner with former
Iranian President Mohammed Khatami. Under Khatami’s regime religious
minorities were severely persecuted, non-Muslims were regularly
harassed, and hundreds of student protestors murdered. The fact that
CAIR chose to honor this dictator who is still a senior member of the
Islamic theocracy in Iran tells us much.
Whether it is in America or back home in my own country, we are
under attack by groups like CAIR who aim to silence their critics. This
is why I am here in America. I aim to continue to fight regardless of
the threats and intimidation and I am asking Americans to join with us.
And when they attack good men like Rep. Adam Hasner, we must realize
that they are attacking each and every one of us and the freedoms that
we hold dear.

The Obama administration is laying the groundwork for dialogue with a Palestinian unity government that includes Hamas, the Los Angeles Times reported on Monday. According to the LA Times, the administration has asked Congress to amend US law so as to enable continued financial assistance to the Palestinian Authority even if Hamas becomes part of a future unity government.ppp
US law requires the PA to adhere to three conditions in order to be eligible for aid: Recognizing Israel, renouncing violence and accepting past agreements. Hamas, as an organization, does not meet these conditions. (How many times do they have to tell us they will NOT recognize Israel before this Muslim thug believes them? )
According to the proposed change, if the rival Palestinian factions reach a power-sharing agreement, the US would like to provide aid as long as the government members backed by Hamas meet the administration’s criteria. This new initiative, reported the LA Times, signals a break from the policy of the Bush administration, which opposed a unity government.
The move has already sparked anger among Israel supporters in Congress. Rep. Mark Steven Kirk told Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton at a House hearing last week that the administration’s proposal is akin to agreeing to support a government that “only has a few Nazis in it.”

Palestinian Authority special
forces were praised by an American general this week for becoming the founders
of a new Arab country within Israel's current borders.
"As I look at you,
I couldn't be more proud of the fact that you stepped up to be the founders of a
Palestinian state," U.S. Lt.-Gen. Keith Dayton told a battalion in his speech to
the troops Monday in Tulkarm. Dayton is responsible for the military training of
the PA special forces. The statement was reported by the Reuters news
service.
The American government has spent tens of millions
of dollars outfitting the PA troops, which it calls “special forces,” possibly
in order to avoid contradicting the Oslo Accords that limit military activities
of the PA. Dayton has been overseeing their training, which takes place in
Jordan and at a base built in Jericho with U.S. funds. Weapons for the “special
forces” are provided by Arab countries, with Israeli approval.
The Olmert
administration also approved a gift of armored personnel carriers from Russia
with the stipulation that they be unarmed. In addition, Russia had wanted to
hand over two helicopters to the PA as well.
Dayton told
Reuters that the Obama administration plans to expand the training program for
1,500 more PA troops, creating three more battalions, in the next 12 months.
Dayton already has supervised the training of 1,600 troops, most of whom are
deployed in large PA-controlled Arab cities, including Jenin, Shechem and
Hevron.
Despite their presence, the IDF continues to carry
out the task of arresting terrorists, particularly at night when the PA forces
do not operate.
"If it goes the way the administration has asked for, we
will accelerate dramatically what we are doing here in terms of training and
equipment, and filling in the gaps in between," Dayton said during his visit in
Tulkarm, located almost adjacent to the Judea-Samaria separation barrier and
only a few miles east of Netanya.
The additional training program
requires approval from Congress for more funding that would allow the
construction for more PA military bases in Judea and Samaria. Without defining
the cost of the additional training and construction, Dayton stated it will
entail “more financial support than we have ever had before.”

At least four people are reported to have been killed and around 13 hurt in The Netherlands after a car careered into spectators watching a royal motorcade.
A photographer said the small car appeared to be deliberately driving at high speed toward an open-top bus carrying Queen Beatrix and her family in the western Dutch town of Apeldoorn.
Cynthia Boll said she saw about 20 people "flying through the air"
after the black Suzuki car swerved across police railings, where crowds
of people were waiting to see the queen pass.
The car slammed into a monument. Video footage showed police removing a man from the vehicle and putting him into an ambulance.
Dutch television said two people were killed and about a dozen injured, including children.
Shortly after the incident, investigators and a sniffer dog examined
the car for explosives, then sawed off the roof for a closer inspection.
People were lining railings five or six deep to see the royal family
pass on its way to a palace. The motorcade was part of celebrations for
the annual national holiday of Queen's Day.
Fred de Graaf, the Mayor of Apeldoorn - a town about 55 miles from Amsterdam - said all festivities were being cancelled.
"The scare and the images that the family has seen are reason to break off the official programme," he said.
Holiday events were also called off in the port city of Rotterdam, and more were likely to be cancelled around the country.
Hundreds of thousands of people flock to the main Dutch cities to
celebrate the national holiday, originally intended to celebrate the
birthday of Beatrix's mother Queen Juliana.
The royal family normally spends the day in a small Dutch community.

JAKARTA - AN ELDERLY Christian priest and his wife were hacked to death with
machetes in Indonesia, police said on Monday.
Frans Koagow, 64, and his wife, Femy Kumendong, 73, were found in the
priest's home in Manado city, North Sulawesi province, on Saturday with deep
slash wounds to their heads and necks, provincial police spokesman Benny Bella
said.
'The priest was cut from behind in the neck while his wife was cut in the

BERLIN (AP) — The United States and its allies must make sacrifices to close
the Guantanamo Bay detention center, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said
Wednesday in a high-profile appeal for Europe's help.
Holder spoke to the American Academy in Berlin, not long after telling
reporters that the United States had approved the release of about 30 Guantanamo
detainees.

Prague and Berlin for help relocating detainees the United States wants to set

who are believed to be innocent could be put in a hotel somewhere.

it wants to send them.
He said the United States is weeks away from asking certain countries to take
detainees.
"We have about 30 or so where we've made the determination that they can be
released. So we will, I think, relatively soon, be reaching out to specific
countries with specific detainees and ask whether or not there might be a basis
for the moving of those people from Guantanamo to those countries," Holder

The AVRO, a Dutch to the right public broadcast, started a TV trial about the guilt of osama bin laden on the 9/11 attack of the world trade center. Bin laden has been found innocent in the TV court, defended by Mr. Spong, a very to the left and radical lawyer. Mr. Spong, a Suriname born lawyer is also the one that wants to bring Geert Wilders in The Dutch Supreme Court for violations against Islam.
This was also the finding of the 5 headed selected jury of AVRO, which also convicted Geert Wilders guilty of Discrimination.
Tonight 4/30 the AVRO broadcasted a program in which Geert Wilders was found guilty for discrimination against Islam. Because he consistently makes a difference between muslims and Non-muslims.
Geert Wilders was defended be Mr. Hiddema, because the regular lawyer of AVRO broadcast Mr. Spong, has filed an official law suit against Geert Wilders, and was therefor replaced by Mr. Hiddema.
The jury however dismissed Geert Wilders of disdain for congress, as he should be able to express his opinion in his own way.
The same lawyer Spong also accuses Joseph Ratzinger, paus Benedictus XVI guilty for causing milions of deaths, because of his discrimination of homosexuals and women.

A self-proclaimed Muslim barbarian shouted his contempt for his judges
yesterday at the start of his trial for the torture and murder of a young Jewish
man.
Youssouf Fofana, 28, who led a loose-knit gang of youths from an immigrant
housing estate, swaggered into court and shouted “Allah will conquer” as the
court began hearing a case into a killing that horrified France and the world
Jewish community in 2006.
Mr Fofana and most of his 26 alleged accomplices have admitted their roles in
the kidnapping of Ilan Halimi, 23, an assistant in a Paris telephone shop, who
was held for ransom for 24 days in the suburb of Bagneux. Mr Fofana, whose
parents came to France from Ivory Coast, denies killing the victim, who was tied
up in a cellar and tortured with acid, cigarettes and knives. He died in an
ambulance after Mr Fofana dumped him by a railway line and allegedly set him
alight.
The crime symbolised the casual and violent anti-Semitic culture among the
young on the immigrant estates. It shocked France because many residents,
including parents of gang members, were alleged to have been aware that Mr
Halimi was being held. Some allegedly took turns in guarding the captive for a
few euros. Half the defendants, mainly teenagers at the time, face charges of
failing to render assistance or alert police.
The racially charged trial proceeded in camera because two of the accused
were minors in 2006, including Emma, 19, of Iranian background, who is alleged
to have lured Mr Halimi to his doom by visiting his shop and inviting him on a
romantic date.
Ruth Halimi, the victim's mother, has accused the police of bungling the
inquiry. She initially attacked the Government, including Nicolas Sarkozy, then
the Interior Minister, for playing down its anti-Semitic aspect.
After thousands demonstrated, Mr Sarkozy promised Jewish leaders that
everything would be done to bring all those involved to justice.
Mr Fofana faces life imprisonment if convicted of kidnapping, torture and
murder, aggravated by anti-Semitic motives, a specific charge in French law.
He should be tortured for three weeks and executed as Halimi was. Anything less is a gross injustice.
Mrs Halimi sat apparently praying in court as Mr Fofana, bearded and in a
white tracksuit, grinned at her and jokingly told the judges that his name was
“Arabs African revolt barbarian Salafist army”. Salafism is a fundamentalist
movement espoused by many young immigrant radicals.[Muslims]
Mrs Halimi has been waging a campaign to keep the spotlight on the
anti-Semitic motives behind the crime. Mr Fofana's accomplices are alleged to
have said that he picked the victim because he was Jewish and “Jews have money
and they stick together”.
He demands we respect Islam, demands we respect our enemies, demands we respect despots, dictators, annihilationists, and oppressors. But when reasoned, rational Americans display knowledge of our Constitution and peacefully protest against socialism, taxation without representation, and the enslavement of our children and grandchildren, he condescends and ridicules them. To Islam the whole of Israel is occupied territory. They see Tel Aviv
and Haifa as settlements as well, and I am very much in favor of a two
state settlement solution but then the two state solution from Winston
Churchill in 1921, when Palestine was partitioned into a Jewish and an
Arab part, Arab Palestine, Ladies and Gentlemen, is now called Jordan and
I think that Jordan is the Palestinian State.
Islam forces Israel to fight. Israel is not just fighting for itself,
Israel is fighting for all of us, for the entire West, just like those
brave American soldiers who landed in Sicily in 1943 and stormed the
Normandy beaches in 1944.
Young Israeli men today, young Israeli Women today, are fighting for our
freedom, are fighting for our civilization, and like Bosnia, like Kosovo,
like Nigeria, like Sudan, like the Caucasus, like Kashmir, like Southern
Thailand, like Western China and the South of the Philippines, Israel is
situated exactly on the dividing line between Dar al -Islam, the Islamic
World and Da al-Harb the non-Islamic World. It is no coincidence that it is
precisely this dividing line, where blood is flowing and war is raging in
many many areas.
It's Israel Independence Day. I went to a zimreah (a night of Jewish songs) and I have to tell you, watching these Jewish children singing the "greatest hits" of this ancient genre in Hebrew, clapping and dancing, the parents kvelling, against the majestic architectural beauty of an old shul, I couldn't help but think -- despite the thousands of years of persecution and prosecution, the blood libels, the hate, the abject cruelty, the jealousy, the violence, the unremitting hunger for our annihilation, the constant boot in one costume (SS) or another (Hamas), I looked at the joyful throng of ebullient parents, children, bubbies and zaydees and I thought, I'd rather be on the receiving of all that evil than be on the other side.
Egyptian born (any Americans in this administration?) Dalia Mogahed serves up plenty of taqiyya, but once you speak the language, you can read between the lines. The Organization of the Islamic Conference has its operatives in place in a Muhammadan presidency.
WASHINGTON - Dalia Mogahed, a hijab-clad American
Muslim, has made history being the first Muslim woman appointed to a position in
President Barack Obama's administration.
She sets on a newly-formed interfaith advisory board
the administration hopes will improve relations with Muslims in the US and
across the globe.
The Egyptian-born American heads the
Gallup American Center for Muslim Studies, a research center that produces
studies on Muslim public opinion worldwide.
In an exclusive interview, IslamOnline.net discussed with
Egyptian-born Mogahed her new role, the challenges facing Muslims, Islamophobia
in the US and her own success story.
- How do you feel about being the first Muslim appointed
to the Obama administration?
I am not actually the first Muslim. There have been other
Muslims appointed to Obama's administration. I am also not the only Muslim on
the White House advisory Council on Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships. I
join Dr. Eboo Patel as the second Muslim on the council. I am, however, the
first Muslim woman in this council. I feel very honored for the privilege to
serve in this way, but also recognize the responsibility that I've agreed to
take on. I see my role much more in terms of what needs to get done rather than
a historical accomplishment. I believe the accomplishments are yet to be
fulfilled.
- What is the role of the Council on Faith-based and
Neighborhood Partnership?
I am a member of a 25-person advisory council to the White
House focused on offering solutions for societal problems sourced in the wisdom
of faith communities. More specifically, I am on the Inter-religious Dialogue
and Cooperation Task Force, a group of only 5. We will work on recommendations
for our area of focus and these will be reviewed by the larger council and then
included in an annual report with recommendations from the council to the
President.
- What is your role as an advisor on Islam?
I would not say I am an advisor on Islam. I would say that
it is my role to convey the facts about what Muslims think and feel. I see my
role as offering the voices of the silenced majority of Muslims in America and
around the world to the council so that our deliberations are informed by their
ideas and wisdom. I believe that I was chosen because the administration cares
about what Muslims think and wants to listen.
- What kind of advise would you be giving Obama to
improve relations with US Muslims and the Muslim world?
I would advise him to listen first and foremost. Many have
claimed that terrorists have 'hijacked Islam'. I disagree. I think Islam is safe
and thriving in the lives of Muslims around the world. What the terrorists have
been allowed to take over are Muslim grievances. Muslim concerns over injustice
have been largely dismissed by the previous administration leaving a vacuum
exploited by extremists.This is a dangerous reality for all of us. Instead, the
US must hear mainstream Muslim concerns even if America does not agree with
their perceptions. These issues can no longer be ignored or left and the
extremists to monopolize.
- What areas of domestic and foreign policies you think
the administration should be introducing change in?
I would endorse the action plan outlined in the report
"Changing Course"which recommends four areas of action: Respect, Reform
(political and economic) and Resolution of conflict.
When it comes to the US, I
would recommend that a senior member of the administration go on a "listening
tour" of the US and hear what Muslim Americans are concerned over. Like all
Americans, they are worried about the economic crisis, their financial future
and jobs. And like many other US citizens, Muslim Americans are also worried
about racial profiling, discriminatory immigration policy and the erosion of
civil liberties.
- What do you think of the rising Islamphobia in
America?
Islamphobia in America is very real. Gallup finds that
Muslims are among the most unfavorably viewed groups in the US and only a little
over a third of Americans say they have no prejudice against Muslims. This
presents a grave danger to America as a whole. The disease of racism, by
definition, is a bias in judgment. This means that racism clouds sound judgment
and leads people to make irrational decisions. It also divides a nation and
prevents the full utilization of its intellectual and cultural resources. Racism
is wasteful. Racism is a strategic disadvantage. I am very proud of the progress
America has made in fighting this problem as it relates to the relationship
between blacks and whites. In 1956 only 4% of Americans approved of a marriage
between whites and blacks. The marriage that produced our president was illegal
in Virginia when he was born. Today 80% of Americans approve of marriage between
blacks and whites. Last year, Barack Obama became the first Democratic
Presidential candidate in decades to carry Virginia. We are a stronger and
smarter nation because of this growth. Our next growth spurt will be in ridding
our society of anti-Muslim prejudice.
- What do you think US Muslims themselves need to
do?
Muslim Americans lag behind other Americans in their
political and civic participation according to our research (National Portrait).
The best thing they can do to strengthen America is to become fully engaged in
writing its next chapter by getting involved and feeling a strong sense of
ownership for the future of their country.
Has any President in history relied as heavily on his teleprompter, as a crack cocaine addict clings to his pipe? If this were anybody else, the corrupt media would shred him.
Laying his plan for a President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, Obama began to name the members of PCAST listed in his prepared remarks – before realizing he’d already introduced them, earlier in his speech.
“In addition to John – sorry, the – I just noticed I jumped the gun here,” Obama said, pausing for several seconds as he looked at the prompter. “Go ahead. Move it up. I had already introduced all you guys.”
"This is a President who has just re-opened the door for the prosecution of
those who in good faith advised that the 'waterboarding' of terrorist trash
post-9/11 would be legal. That technique subsequently extracted information that
saved Los Angeles from a similar attack.

and withholds information about its success.

to 'Overseas Contingency Operation' so as not to offend terrorist trash.
"This is a President who is willing to sit down unconditionally with the
President of the world's #1 sponsor of terrorist trash, Iran, even as that
country proceeds with impunity to acquire nuclear weaponry.
"This is a President who preaches nuclear disarmament at the United Nations
knowing North Korea is about to fire a long-range missile over Japan.
"This is a President who bows to the King of Saudi Arabia and beams at Hugo
Chavez.
"This is a President whose economic policies are significantly similar to
Chavez's.
"This is a President on whose watch the Department of Homeland Security
fantasizes about 'threats' from war veterans who 'might' become 'right-wing
extremists.'
"This is a President who believes anyone who adheres to America's founding
ideals is a 'right-wing extremist.'
"This is a President who trashes his country while overseas, apologizing to
European socialists (whose countries America rebuilt) and Latin American
communists for America's 'arrogance' and 'dismissiveness.'
"The Department of Homeland Security would be better advised to worry about
the threat to America posed by its President. He is making it more vulnerable to
external attack while personally unleashing an internal attack on its core
values.
"Chavez-Obama's credentials as an anti-American may be unimpeachable, but
he'd do well to remember that he is not," Perigo concludes.
CAIR criticized Rep. Hasner for appearing with me:
Hasner is on the “host committee” for the conference and is pictured on an
anti-Islam Internet hate site attending the event. He is shown with Pamela
Geller, another conference sponsor, whose blog features categories such as
“Advancing Islamic Lies,” “Islam 2008: Religion of Barbarism” and “Slavery:
An Arab custom.” Geller has even been criticized by other Islamophobes for
her extremism and for supporting far-right groups in Europe. She is
currently involved in an Internet “flame war” over her support for an
upcoming “Eurofascist” conference in Europe.
How dare they? These enemies of the state only question patriotic Americans. The Marriott caved to threats and canceled the venue. They will be sued. The Free Speech organizers had to scramble to find another location, which had to be kept secret until the last minute. Each attendee had to be called individually and told of the new location - the Renaissance Hotel (give them your business when your in town ....).
The unacceptable has become the inevitable. Nidra said that, and we bear witness to it everyday. Islamic anti-semitism is now understood, accepted, and must be respected. Where the hell are the good people of the world? I will tell you where they are: Some are cowering in their homes. Others are rubbing their hands with glee, much the same way as they did during the Holocaust.
EUROPE HAS LEARNED NOTHING FROM WORLD WAR II. NOTHING.
Caroline Glick nailed it on one of my radio shows. While the holocaust was a
German initiative, it was carried out by every nation in Europe, save for
the Danes. There were Dutch Nazis, Polish Nazis. Europe as a continent
decided it was a good idea to get rid of the Jews. Holland had the
highest rate of collaboration with the Nazis, higher than any other
country in Western Europe. 95% of Dutch Jews were murdered.
The lesson the
Europeans took away from the aftermath of WW2 was insidious. "The
lesson that Europe had decided to avail itself to in the aftermath of
Auschwitz, was not that evil is bad and that they behaved like monsters,
but rather that everything was caused by nationalism, and therefore what
we really need to do is have a European Union that will obviate our
need for nationalism so that we can become this transnational
gobbletygook and we'll all get together and therefore we won't have
another Auschwitz.
But really the lesson should have been that we were evil and we have
to be good. And that is the lesson we have to learn and and we have to
be able and willing to make moral distinctions and stand up for the
good and fight evil, and that is something the Europeans refuse to do."
They are constantly having memorials to dead Jews, while condemning
Israel for every act of of self defense, no matter how benign it is in
the defense of innocent Jewish citizens.
The Labour Party has become embroiled in a race row after a prospective
female councillor was allegedly told she was 'too white and Jewish' to be
selected.
Elaina Cohen claims that Labour councillor Mahmood Hussain said he would not
support her application for an inner-city ward because 'my Muslim members don't
want you because you are Jewish'.
Mrs Cohen, 50, has made an official complaint about the alleged remarks made
by Mr Hussain, a Muslim and former lord mayor of Birmingham.
She said: 'I am shocked and upset that a member of the Labour Party in this
day and age could even think something like that, let alone say it.
'People should not be allowed to make racist comments like that. If someone
in the party feels I cannot represent them because of my colour or religion,
that's ridiculous.
'I felt particularly aggrieved because I have worked across all sections of
the community, particularly with the Muslim section, and have been on official
visits to Pakistan.'
Good luck with that.
Mrs Cohen had applied to stand as a Labour councillor for the Birmingham ward
of East Handsworth and Lozells, which has a high Asian and Afro-Caribbean
population.
As one of Labour's safest seats on Tory-led Birmingham city council, the
final candidate would be almost certain of victory at the June 4 by-election.
But when Mrs Cohen telephoned 57-year-old Mr Hussain for his support, she was
astonished to be told that she was too 'white and Jewish' to be considered.
Lorraine Briscoe, who runs a local community association, was sitting next to
Mrs Cohen when the conversation took place on speakerphone last Tuesday.
'I was disgusted that a councillor could make comments like that in 2009,'
she said.
'He told her, "They will not vote for someone who is white and Jewish. My
Muslim members don't want you because you are Jewish".
'Elaina then asked him if he had talked to his Muslim members about it and he
said, "I don't want to talk about it with you" and hung up.
'Elaina does a lot of good work in this community and she does not see race
or religion, she just sees people.'
Two days after the alleged conversation, Mrs Cohen and another candidate were
rejected by a pre-selection panel after failing to gain the support of the local
party.
Instead, members were presented with one candidate, black South African
Hendrina Quinnen, who was selected by an almost unanimous vote.

president, flew low over parts of New York and New Jersey on Monday
morning, accompanied by two F-16 fighters, so Air Force photographers
could take pictures high above the New York harbor.

— caused momentary panic in some quarters and led to the evacuation of
several buildings in Lower Manhattan and Jersey City. By the afternoon,
the situation had turned into a political fuse box, with Mayor Michael
R. Bloomberg saying that he was “furious” that he had not been told in
advance about the flyover.
At 4:39 p.m. Monday, the White House issued an apology for the flyover. Louis E. Caldera,
director of the White House Military Office, who served in the Clinton
administration as secretary of the Army, said in a statement:
Last week, I approved a mission over New York. I take
responsibility for that decision. While federal authorities took the
proper steps to notify state and local authorities in New York and New
Jersey, it’s clear that the mission created confusion and disruption. I
apologize and take responsibility for any distress that flight caused.
The mission on Monday, officials said, was set up to create an

I just wanted to say that your "WTF?" posting from 28 Apr had some incorrect information at the bottom. When "Malone" asked who was taking the pictures in the F-16, I think it should be clarified that two-seat F-16s do exist (there are actually plenty of them). In fact, a good friend of mine is an aerial photographer who regularly goes up with a pilot in a two-seater F-16 to photograph other jets. While I am not sure which version(s) were flying for the photo-op, I just want to make sure your readers are not mislead into thinking two-seat F-16s do not exist.
So the world sanctions 56 Islamic countries (all the very model of modernity) and cannot tolerate one teeny, tiny Jewish state. Think about that. We must be very, very special.

strategic, military and nuclear facilities in many countries around the world,
including Israel. Other items shared by jihadists over the Internet include
newspaper clippings about alleged Israeli army bases in Africa.
The detailed maps are presented by Islamic fundamentalists alongside calls to
carry out strikes against the named targets, according to a report released
Monday by the Institute of Terrorism Research and Response (ITRR).
One recent message specifies "important nuclear facilities and military bases
that we should strike." The text is accompanied by several maps identifying
strategic sites in nations as diverse as Belarus, Ukraine, Russia, France,
Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Turkey, Greece, Israel,
South Africa, Pakistan and the United States.
Each of the maps of the foregoing countries include labels purporting to
identify air force, missile defense and naval bases, as well as nuclear weapons
facilities and other related areas. An Arabic-language map of Japan, without
specific strategic sites labeled, was also uploaded to an online jihadist forum
alongside an exhortation not to "forget" the Japanese.

The new Somali government has sharply condemned threats of fresh attacks on neighboring Kenya by hard-line Islamic insurgent group al-Shabab. The group, which has refused to recognize President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed's government threatened Monday to annex parts of northern Kenya and implement Islamic Sharia law. Nairobi on the other hand has begun strong measures to counter such an attack by deploying extra troops to man the Kenya-Somali border and maintain the disarmament of residents in the province
It strikes me as bloody savage that militant Muslims in Congress (whose trip to the hajj was on the Muslim Brotherhood's dime) are protesting for "muslims in Darfur," when in fact it is an Islamic government that has murdered millions in the cause of jihad. It's an Islamic jihad in Sudan. No one ever talks about that.
US Islamist Congressman Keith Ellison was arrested as he was
protesting for aid groups to be allowed into Darfur to help his Muslim
brothers.

Tribune U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison, D-Minn., and four other members of Congress
were arrested this morning in front of the Sudanese Embassy in Washington, D.C.,
as they protested the expulsion of aid groups in Darfur.
It was an
apparently unprecedented act by a member of Minnesota's congressional delegation
and somewhat out of character for Ellison, who has kept a generally low profile
since he arrived in Congress, attracting international attention as its first
Muslim member.
News archives show that no other members of the
state's delegation have been arrested for civil disobedience; former Sen. Dave
Durenberger was arrested on disorderly conduct charges in 1986 after he argued
with a police officer and a taxi dispatcher. The charges were
dismissed.
Before being led away in handcuffs during the
mid-morning protest, Ellison said it's wrong to deprive aid to what he called
"the most vulnerable people on our planet."
"They were speaking on the
embassy steps and were asked to leave," said Ellison spokesman Rick Jauret.
"When they didn't, they were arrested."
Ellison and a total of seven
other protesters were taken away by U.S. Secret Service agents and are expected
to be charged with trespassing, Jauert said.
Also arrested were
Reps. Jim McGovern, D-Mass., John Lewis, D-Ga., Donna Edwards, D-Md., and Lynn
Woolsey, D-Calif., and three Darfur activist leaders.
I find it more and more morbidly curious that everyone in the "global community", particularly her mortal enemies, has a say in what Israel must do - except, of course, Israel. How dare these primitive lilliputians weigh in on a people struggling for their very existence for the past 5,769 years. Da King Abdullah says Israel must "choose between integration and isolation"? Who the hell would want to integrate into the land of jihad? What rational, thinking man would want to deprive himself and his children of their inalienable rights?

Israel must choose
between integration and isolation in the Middle East, Jordan's King
Abdullah II said Friday on a visit to the United States.
He
also warned that delaying a two-state solution would be disastrous for
both Israel and the Palestinians, according to reports from Haaretz
Service and Reuters.
"Israel now has to
make its choice — to integrate into the region ... with normal
relations with its neighbors or to remain fortress Israel," the king
said, Reuters reported.
The king said the
2002 Arab peace initiative was the best option for Israel. The
initiative would establish normal ties between Israel and all Arab
states in return for it relinquishing territory gained in the 1967
Middle East war, the creation of a Palestinian state and a "just
solution" for its refugees, Reuters reported.

The
United States will be key to peace between Israel and the Palestinians,
and both sides are already testing President Obama's resolve, he said.

week, said the United States should have a peace plan "for 2009 and

from stories from your parents or friends or whoever, is on the verge of
collapsing.

added that “we need strong leaders like here are [sic] today Allen West and
Adam Hasner.”
Hasner is on the “host committee” for the conference and is pictured on an
anti-Islam Internet hate site attending the event. He is shown with Pamela
Geller, another conference sponsor, whose blog features categories such as
“Advancing Islamic Lies,” “Islam 2008: Religion of Barbarism” and “Slavery:
An Arab custom.” Geller has even been criticized by other Islamophobes for
her extremism and for supporting far-right groups in Europe. She is
currently involved in an Internet “flame war” over her support for an
upcoming “Eurofascist” conference in Europe.
CAIR is taking its talking points from Charles Johnson. I called it back in 2007.

One can understand how Britain was once the world's most powerful nation when listening to a great statesman like Lord Pearson.
It was at the invitation of Lord Pearson that Wilders was to speak and screen Fitna in the House of Lords. But the British government, the horrid Home Secretary Jacqui Smith, that Wilders was banned from entering Britain. Lord Pearson would not tolerate the “mother of all parliaments”

For the record. I was invited and was interested in attending an anti-Islamisation rally in Cologne and said so. I was seriously considering it. It is a cause I very much believe in. Porter J. Goss was director of the CIA from September 2004 to May
2006, and was chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence
from 1997 to 2004. And I thought Goss was too soft, but even he is aghast.
Goss urges Obama stop this witch hunt, but to think that Obama will shut this down also "conjures up images of unicorns
and fairy tales". This one act of treason serves dear leader well. It
demonizes the much beloved military, it routs intelligence agencies, it distracts the American people's attention from the
notoriously bad legislation Obama is passing every day, and it essentially destroys America. It's Shakespearean.
SECURITY BEFORE POLITICS Porter J. Goss, Washington Post (hat tip Steve)
Since leaving my post as CIA director almost three years ago, I have remained
largely silent on the public stage. I am speaking out now because I feel our
government has crossed the red line between properly protecting our national
security and trying to gain partisan political advantage. We can't have a secret
intelligence service if we keep giving away all the secrets. Americans have to
decide now.
A disturbing epidemic of amnesia seems to be plaguing my former colleagues on
Capitol Hill. After the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, members of the committees
charged with overseeing our nation's intelligence services had no higher
priority than stopping al-Qaeda. In the fall of 2002, while I was chairman of
the House intelligence committee, senior members of Congress were briefed on the
CIA's "High Value Terrorist Program," including the development of
"enhanced interrogation techniques" and what those techniques were. This was not
a one-time briefing but an ongoing subject with lots of back and forth between
those members and the briefers.
Today, I am slack-jawed to read that members claim to have not understood
that the techniques on which they were briefed were to actually be employed; or
that specific techniques such as "waterboarding" were never mentioned. It must
be hard for most Americans of common sense to imagine how a member of Congress
can forget being told about the interrogations of Sept. 11 mastermind Khalid
Sheik Mohammed. In that case, though, perhaps it is not amnesia but political
expedience.
Let me be clear. It is my recollection that:
-- The chairs and the ranking minority members of the House and Senate
intelligence committees, known as the Gang of Four, were briefed that the CIA
was holding and interrogating high-value terrorists.
-- We understood what the CIA was doing.
-- We gave the CIA our bipartisan support.
-- We gave the CIA funding to carry out its activities.
-- On a bipartisan basis, we asked if the CIA needed more support from
Congress to carry out its mission against al-Qaeda.
I do not recall a single objection from my colleagues. They did not vote to
stop authorizing CIA funding. And for those who now reveal filed "memorandums
for the record" suggesting concern, real concern should have been expressed
immediately -- to the committee chairs, the briefers, the House speaker or
minority leader, the CIA director or the president's national security adviser
-- and not quietly filed away in case the day came when the political winds
shifted. And shifted they have.
Circuses are not new in Washington, and I can see preparations being made for
tents from the Capitol straight down Pennsylvania Avenue. The CIA has been
pulled into the center ring before. The result this time will be the same: a
hollowed-out service of diminished capabilities. After Sept. 11, the general
outcry was, "Why don't we have better overseas capabilities?" I fear that in the
years to come this refrain will be heard again: once a threat -- or God forbid,
another successful attack -- captures our attention and sends the pendulum
swinging back. There is only one person who can shut down this dangerous show:
President Obama.
Unfortunately, much of the damage to our capabilities has already been done.
It is certainly not trust that is fostered when intelligence officers are told
one day "I have your back" only to learn a day later that a knife is being held
to it. After the events of this week, morale at the CIA has been shaken to its
foundation.
We must not forget: Our intelligence allies overseas view our inability to
maintain secrecy as a reason to question our worthiness as a partner. These
allies have been vital in almost every capture of a terrorist.
The suggestion that we are safer now because information about interrogation
techniques is in the public domain conjures up images of unicorns and fairy
dust. We have given our enemy invaluable information about the rules by which we
operate. The terrorists captured by the CIA perfected the act of beheading
innocents using dull knives. Khalid Sheik Mohammed boasted of the tactic of
placing explosives high enough in a building to ensure that innocents trapped
above would die if they tried to escape through windows. There is simply no
comparison between our professionalism and their brutality...

An Italian cruise ship with 1,500 people on board fended off a pirate attack far off the coast of Somalia when its Israeli private security forces exchanged fire with the bandits and drove them away, the commander said Sunday.
Cmdr. Ciro Pinto told Italian state radio that six men in a small white boat approached the Msc Melody and opened fire Saturday night, but retreated after the Israeli security officers aboard the cruise ship returned fire.
"It felt like we were in war," Pinto said. None of the roughly 1,000 passengers and 500 crew members were hurt, Melody owner Msc Cruises said in a statement issued by its German branch.
Gunmen give chase and attempt to board Zim vessel traveling 700 km from Somali coast
Somali gunmen attacked an Israeli ship sailing 700 km off the coast of Somalia at around 10 am Saturday. The 'Africa Star' ship, belonging to Zim Shipping Services, had no Israelis on board.
Lior Hayat of the Foreign Ministry told Ynet, "We are following the incident. Since there were no Israelis on board the ship, the Foreign Ministry will not involve itself in the handling of this case."
The pirate gunmen, riding on two motorboats accompanied by a mother-ship, opened fire at the Zim ship and then attempted to board by steering close to its hull and leaping from the boats.
They were unsuccessful, however, as the ship's hull was encircled with barbed wire. No injuries were reported among the Zim crew.
After failing to board, the pirates returned to their boats and began a chase that went on for a number of hours. They were unsuccessful in reaching the vessel.

A BRITISH air stewardess was sacked for refusing to fly to Saudi Arabia after she was ordered to wear a traditional Islamic robe and walk behind male colleagues.
Lisa Ashton, a £15,000-a-year stewardess with BMI, was told that in public areas in Saudi Arabia she was required to wear a black robe, known as an abaya. This covers everything but the face, feet and hands. She was told to follow her male colleagues, irrespective of rank.
Ashton, 37, who was worried about security in the country, refused to fly there, claiming the instructions were discriminatory. She was sacked last April.
“It’s not the law that you have to walk behind men in Saudi Arabia, or that you have to wear an abaya, and I’m not going to be treated as a second-class citizen,” Ashton said last week.
“It’s outrageous. I’m a proud Englishwoman and I don’t want these restrictions placed on myself.”
Saudi experts and companies that recruit women to work in the country say it is a “myth” that western women are required to walk behind men. There is no requirement for them to wear the abaya in public, though many do.
Earlier this year an employment tribunal in Manchester ruled that BMI was justified in imposing “rules of a different culture” on staff and cleared it of sexual discrimination. Ashton has consulted Liberty, the human rights organisation, and may seek a judicial review of the decision.

Vedel from the Copenhagen Police called it an ‘unscrupulous attack,
where the perpetrator had no qualms about who was hit’. Vedel said the
hand grenade had been thrown from a darkened area behind the
restaurant, but so far police have found no trace of the attacker.
No
motive has yet been established for the attack and police said none of
the five people at the table were previously known to authorities. They
have appealed for witnesses to the attack to come forward with any
information.
This is too rich. Charles Johnson of Little Green Footballs falls for fauxtography. One might be surprised that no johnson could fall for so simple a photoshop, but don't be. He took the credit for the "fauxtography" and "rathergate" stories when they were, in fact, both discovered by readers (the latter at Powerline).
