Elsewhere around Israel, tens of thousands of Jews sought out hilltops and rooftops to catch the first rays of the sun to recite the prayer.
Birkat Hakhama is said as the sun comes up to mark what according to Jewish tradition is the sun's return to its position at the moment that the universe was created 5,769 years ago. It returns to the spot once every 28 years.
This is a very good day. A very good day indeed. It is the first night of Pesach. I want to wish my Jewish readers a very sweet and delicious Pesach.
Sunday is Easter and as we enter this holy week for Christians and Jews, allow me to extend to all the righteous Gentiles who read and support Atlas my deepest affection and gratitude. Have a wonderful Easter. You are great Americans. Your support of Israel means more than you'll ever know. To the Hindus, Sikhs, Coptic Christians, Buddhists who read Atlas and write me in support, I say together we are an army and we will triumph.
Pray for the Captain held captive by the jihadi pirates off the coast of Somalia.
Chag Sameach.

friends:
jews and christians, israel and the united states of america, have no greater nor abler defenders of our faiths and liberties attained through them, than pamela geller here at atlas shrugs, and sammy benoit at yid w/ lid. i am very privileged & honored in this life to be friend to both such worthy and inestimable persons. very privileged, indeed.
they are defenders of those faiths that teach the attainment of good on earth, ... , all such faiths. they are indefatigalbe adversaries, without apology, to any faith or teaching which preaches and practices evil against other people.
they are not afraid of the moral judgments demanded by the juxtaposition of the two, good and evil. for this stalwart position, they have my admiration. period. there is no moral quailing to be found in these pages.

This sacred land belongs to the jews for 3500 and more years, (and Christians), not to the false usurpers. There never was a Palestine, only a primitive tribal culture of hatred and death.

moderationist:
that primative tribal culture of hatred and death has legs, though, doesn't it, and it has remained absolutely unchanged for 1400 years while the rest of the world has changed, and progressed.
it has lain quiescent, in a torpor, but has roused its anger and hatred to truly monstrous proportion. and, the west tries to appease it, by feeding it even more money, the thing that enabled its true expression.
we shall have to learn, once again, that the only way to deal with its savagery is to defeat it decisively by arms, ... , or, we shall be destroyed by it.

wow, amazing photograph at de koisel...
it reminds me of what our sages said about the romans: if they (the romans) knew how much they benefitted from the Temple in Jerusalem, instead of destroying it, they would've built a wall around it and protected it and the jews.
when moshiach comes, may it be soon, the nations will feel this way about the jews. they will want to learn torah. but the jews; we will still be focused on HaShem, regardless of what the nations think.

what people often don't understand is that the jewish people's purpose is to serve G-d, and serve humanity.
in that order.

Great picture, great place, truly touched by the heavens and reaching out to them. Anybody who doesn't 'feel' Jerusalem missed not just the Jewish experience but also the history of all cultures with authentic pasts. This does not include Islam.
Chag sameach, and good future luck to the pilots of the IAF, the soldiers of the IDF, esp. the elite units, and to the unknown soldiers in the intelligence services. May this Passover bring more solidarity among Jews, and understanding through the world of the need to combat Islamic aims and defend the cultures of the West.
Thanks again to the bloggers and activists like Pam Geller and the rest.

pamela, friends:
this is, i believe, the 3rd year i have watched the film of the 1947 sedar dinner in vienna, austria.
i can only wonder the stories behind the faces of those at the dinner table in that hall, and wonder at the absence of small children, and marvel at the depths of the human spirit.
i am moved way past my ability to express what i feel when i watch this short film, and more so each year. perhaps we do not have the power to resist evil wherever it is found, but at least give us the capacity to resist it and fight it to our last ounce of courage, when it is in our presence, when it comes to our door, and to never give in to it.
let that be the legacy of those who suffered so much. that, and the courage to go on, again. that life and happiness rose again from that devastation, is the lasting testament of those jews, of human kind.

Pamela - Thank you for all you do here. I haven't been around this blog long, but truly appreciate all you are doing. Some years ago, I spent a whole lot of time going back and forth between the US and Israel. It was an amazing time, and I carry memories of that wonderful time that will be with me always. I have been to the Wailing Wall many times, and for me, it never ceased to be a place of such great inspriation. I truly appreciate your stance towards Israel. It's refreshing to see that others feel as I do.
Happy Pesach to you, and....next year, Jerusalem!!!

The film doesn't have any dialogue. I was hoping to hear what "Austrian" sounds like.
A Blessed Holy Week to one and all.

BUT, He's gotta be shaking His head in disbelief.
When grieving, as we are for our country, it does no good to question why God does what He does WHEN he does. This presidency has GOT to be a test.

APF gets it wrong again. The prayer is to thank Hashem for creating the sun, not to bless the sun. And BTW, for the rest of the global warming religion hoaxers -- It is the sun, libtards. Happy Passover!

Good point, Rocketman. I'm not sure what the answer is to this president being our test, but I'm praying that we come out stronger and with more solidarity as a nation once this guy is out of office. At that point, I will happily be able to say, good riddance to bad rubbish.
