Jew haters are on a rampage in Malmö and Tundra Tabloids is reporting that Swedish politicians help anti-Israel protesters by keeping the tennis match behind closed doors.
ETT advised me:
10,000 demonstrators expected.
1,000 police including police from Denmark.
New Nazis expected to join the demo.
Police estimate that up to 6,000 demonstrators have joined a march in Malmö to protest against the ongoing Davis Cup match between Sweden and Israel in the city. There are reported to be some 200 masked demonstrators at the back of the march and police confirm that the otherwise peaceful march was disrupted by incidents involving paint bombs, fireworks and Bengal lights.Several of the masked, black-clad hooligans rushed the barriers holding demonstrators away from the Baltisk Hallen arena where the match is taking place. The first day of competition in the Davis Cup first round match passed off calmly and none of the forecast trouble and fighting occurred. But police took no chances on Saturday with up to 1,000 officers on duty.Saturday's march is being marshalled closely by a large police presence including a helicopter escort. Rumours that neo-nazi and other extremist groups intend to infiltrate the march have kept police on alert. The controversy over the match has been building for weeks and gathered pace when local politicians ordered that the match to be played behind closed doors. Former Green party leader Per Gahrton claimed that the decision had already given demonstrators some success. "We have been helped by brave politicians in Malmö. We thank them for that," Gahrton said.
Back on March 1, KGS called it: Sweden Allows the Davis Cup to Become a Political Farce.......
ESPN Peter Bodo wrote:
There can be only one reason for how this has come about: The town fathers in Malmo, and perhaps the leadership of the Swedish federation itself, desperately wants this tie to be controversial -- wants to see it played behind closed doors, in order to somehow suggest that Israel is a pariah nation -- thereby advancing anti-Israel sentiment.
Malmo is bracing for an influx of demonstrators against Israel, which also plays right into the hands of those who wish to embarrass Israel. What could be better, in terms of advancing the agenda, than having streets full of demonstrators and a visiting nation that can't be allowed to show its flag? This is a crude and astonishing example of using the Davis Cup as a political football.
The activists hurled rocks and firecrackers at police vans as they tried to break through the barricades set up to keep protesters from the arena. Hundreds of riot police pushed them back using truncheons.
There were no immediate reports of injuries. At least five people were detained, police spokesman Lars Hakan Lindholm said.
The clashes erupted after about 7,000 people gathered at a square in downtown Malmo to hear speeches condemning Israel's offensive in Gaza and urging support for Palestinians.
Organizers of the "stop the match" protest had said the demonstration would be peaceful, but extreme-left activists had vowed to disrupt the match, which is being played without fans in Malmo.
Sweden's Left Party leader Lars Ohly told the crowd that the European Union and the rest of the world should "boycott the racist regime in Israel."
The protesters then marched toward the Baltic Hall arena, where some of them attacked the police line with eggs, rocks and firecrackers.
The doubles match between Sweden and Israel started as planned before about 300 special guests invited by the two countries' tennis federations.
About 1,000 police from southern Sweden were deployed in Malmo to keep the protesters from entering the arena.
UPDATE: The leftists are there - the communist AFA but also Neo Nazis and the Muhammadans of Malmö, basically all Jew haters. (video hat tip Spencer)
