Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei dismissed overtures from President Barack Obama on Saturday, saying Tehran does not see any change in U.S. policy under its new administration.

Iran's Khamenei says Obama's overture not enough -- says Obama must abandon Israel and stop supporting Israel.
He also accused the U.S. of provoking ethnic tension in Iran and said Washington's accusations that Iran is seeking nuclear weapons are a sign of U.S. hostility. Iran says its nuclear program is only for peaceful purposes, like energy production, not for building weapons.
"Have you released Iranian assets? Have you lifted oppressive sanctions? Have you given up mudslinging and making accusations against the great Iranian nation and its officials? Have you given up your unconditional support for the Zionist regime? Even the language remains unchanged," Khamenei said.
Khamenei, wearing a black turban and dark robes, said America was hated around the world for its arrogance, as the crowd chanted "Death to America."
"We do not have any record of the new U.S. president," he said in a live television broadcast. "We are observing, watching and judging. If you change, we will also change our behavior. If you do not change, we will be the same nation as 30 years ago."

Opposition to the U.S. and Israel remain a major pillar of the Islamic Republic's radical populist ideology. "Death to America" is a ubiquitous rallying cry, and opponents of the system are often tarnished by accusations of being American or Israeli dupes.
Khamenei said that lifting economic sanctions and retracting "hostile propaganda" would be among the welcomed shifts in U.S. policies.
"For you to say that we will both talk to Iran and simultaneously exert pressure on her, both threats and appeasement, our nation hates this approach," he said.
Obama has said he is committed to improving America's image abroad after what most analysts consider a sullying of the U.S. reputation in the wake of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq and abuses of detainees in the Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo Bay military prisons.

Further poisonous fruit of Barack Hussein's contempt for America and his weak pathetic appeasement of political Islam. President Hussein may have helped Ahmadinejad in his quest to retain the Iranian presidency.

Now that Khatami has withdrawn from coming election, Ahmadinejad should be very happy with Obama's message as he can now steal the reformists' thunder and claim that he was the one who reconnected US-Iran relations after 30 years, achieved Iran's nuclear rights and empowered Iran to exert control over Iraq (the US having paid the price for removing Saddam Hussein and Iran having gained the benefits).
