HAMAS BREAKS HUDNA, ISRAEL RESPONDS - OLMERDE's "DISPROPORTIONATE" STUPIDITY

I am thrilled that Israel is defending itself after Hamas broke the "hudna" and attacked Israel here and here.

I find it disturbing that "Olmerde" is buying into the Islamic narrative and using the words "disproportionate response". Only a JINO asshat could bumble this way. The man resigned months ago - why are the Jewish people still cursed with his dangerous stupidity?

A "'disproportionate' response" would be firing and targeting Muslims, shelling civilian homes and  schools, the way the Gazan Muslims do to the Jews. "Disproportionate response" means thousands of Muslims would not be called warning them that Hamas attacks would be stopped, and to leave their homes to escape injury. How many stories have we heard of Hamas shooting civilians in their homes to keep them in their homes, so that it would appear as if the Israelis were killing civilians? And the world kisses the ass of these savages.

Israel has been far too soft (and irresponsible) in not responding to remitting attacks. Jewish life means something! Israel's lack of resolve has Islamic jihad emboldened, seemingly believing it is victorious. No response is defeat.

Israeli aircraft bombed Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip on Sunday, the Islamist group said, after Prime Minister Ehud Olmert vowed a "disproportionate" response to mortar fire that injured three Israelis.

Securing a nation, defending its people from avowed annihilationists is not disproportionate, it's rational. Olmert is a putz en tuchas.

Security sources confirmed the strike, citing that the Israeli Air Force struck six targets in Gaza during the evening hours.

The targets included a Hamas stronghold, and several tunnels on the Philadelphi Route. According to the sources, the fire triggered several explosions, indicating that Hamas as resumed its arms smugglings.No casualties were reported.

One attack was on a security headquarters in a village in central Gaza that residents said had been vacated after Israel telephoned warnings to Palestinians to leave buildings that housed any weapons.

About a dozen rockets and mortar bombs fired from Gaza struck Israel on Sunday. Three Israelis were wounded, including two soldiers and the first Israeli civilian hurt since a Jan. 18 truce ended Israel's 22-day offensive in the coastal enclave. They suffered shrapnel injuries, medics said.

Theal-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, a group belonging to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah faction, said it fired some of the rockets, but not all were claimed.

Israeli leaders have taken a hard line against rocket fire in the run-up to a Feb. 10 national election, which opinion polls predict right-wing leader Benjamin Netanyahu will win.

"The government's position was from the outset that if there is shooting at the residents of the south, there will be a harsh Israeli response that will be disproportionate," Olmert, who is not a candidate, said at the weekly cabinet meeting.

"We will act according to new rules which will ensure that we will not be drawn into a war of incessant shooting on the southern border, which would deprive the residents of the south of a normal life," he said, without elaborating.

Palestinians in the southern Gaza town of Rafah, not far from the village targeted, received recorded voice messages by telephone warning "everybody who is near any place used for terror or weapon storage facility or tunnels, should evacuate the area immediately."

Similar warnings have preceded Israeli attacks in the past.

'Decisive and strong response needed' A spokesman for the Hamas government in the Gaza Strip condemned what he described as Olmert's "aggressive statement".

Since when did it become immoral to use disproportionate force to defeat an enemy who's goal is to kill you and eliminate your country. Disproportionate is the only reasonable - and moral - option. It minimizes casualties and damage to infrastructure and assists in ending the conflict quickly. Israel needs to strike with as much disproportionate force as they can - it's the only way to get this thing done.

I think you've misread him. to me it was more of an in-your-face "Disproportionate force? yeah--I got your disproportionate force right here, buddy!" I thought it was actually a pretty clever thing to say, considering that to the rest of the world, ANY Israeli response is disproportionate.

I must agree with the general world opinion that it is wrong to use disproportionate force. A perfect example of a proportionate response to an attack would be if an un-named segment of the world population numbering some 1.5 billion people had the avowed and much publicized intention of wiping another segment of the world population numbering some 15 million people of the face of the earth and in their attack on the smaller segment the larger one lost 1300 people against the defenders 13. That is a perfect proportionality and I sincerely hope that Israel would use such tactics rather then carry out a genocidal massacre.

I also think you have misread him on this. "Proportionate" force - i.e., force that is the same, would result in Israel chucking missiles wantonly and randomly into civilian centers and shooting blindly at any Gazan they could see. "Disproportionate" force - i.e., force not the same as the Hamas-idal Maniacs, would be "restraint" and observing purity of arms, which Israel does.

But, since the word has been co-opted, I have nothing against saying that Israel will use "disproportionate" force - i.e., it will be more painful for you than it will be for us - to respond. And I think Israel HAS to behave that way in order to protect its citizens from madmen who care very little about their fellow Gazans, and only about destroying Jews. I only wish that Olmert had said something like this (and acted like this) from the beginning. He might have avoided a war in Gaza and a war in Lebanon if he had done so.
