The neo-Nazi Aryan Guard are the people holding the defaced Israeli flag. Apparently, their hatred of Israel and jews seemed to temporarily supersede their hatred of other groups, who they marched along side of.

The Nazis made up only a fraction of a percent of the overall group, and of course, nobody should think a few pictures is representative of the big picture.

The Anti-Racist Action (ARA) is one of the other groups at the protest (not seen here), and they have told me they were strongly opposed to the presence of the Aryan Guard, telling them to leave right at the start, and finally getting them to leave when the Aryan Guard started to drag the Israeli flag in the mud, which was near where the march ended, at the Harry Hays building.

This is one of the pictures I took of a protest of Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip in downtown Calgary on Saturday, January 10, 2009. Protesters started at City Hall, and marched to the Harry Hays Building. It was one of several held across Canada by the Canadian Peace Alliance and other organizations on the same day.

BTW I have different feelings about Abe Lincoln. In today's world, he would be blamed for too many deaths, no plans for the aftermath of what didnt need to happen in the first place. No, Im not even talking about just slavery. Im talking about the job he didnt finish because he left unhappy black people who are still with us and continue to hold on to the slavery and cannot seem to get past what happened so long ago. (in other words..if you want to persecute GWB for the Iraqi war, you'll have to persecute abe lincoln. )

To paraphrase Zip, this is the Judeophobic trifecta. Actual Nazi skinheads carrying swastikas as an indictment of Israel is quite possibly the single most Orwellian thing I've ever seen, if maybe on a par with Islamists doing the same thing.

Luckybee, the Luo are mostly Christians. I'm studying Dholuo in a graduate field methods course. They have a few Muslims, but they're a minority. Obama's Muslim familial ties aren't that strong. His father was an in-name-only Muslim and a drunk. Same deal with his grandfather, who coverted because Christianity wasn't misogynist for him (no polygamy). The Luo are not slave hunters, although there is definitely slavery in his family's past. His father isn't strictly African either, but rather part Arab. Kenyan slavery is a Hausa thing, not a Luo thing. I'm not defending Obama or any of his shady associations, but I think they have more to do with his Indonesian father and upbringing that his biological father. I do think that Tanzanian Luos are more Muslim, but I can't say with much certainty. My informant is Kenyan.
