Death toll soars to 400 in bloody battles between Muslims and Christians in Nigeria

Residents delivered more bodies to the main mosque in the central Nigerian city of Jos, bringing the death toll from two days of clashes between Muslim and Christian gangs to around 400 people.

Rival ethnic and religious mobs have burned homes, shops, mosques and churches in fighting triggered by a disputed local election in a city at the crossroads of Nigeria's Muslim north and Christian south. It is the country's worst unrest for years.

Ten corpses wrapped in blankets, two of them infants, lay behind him.

A doctor at one of the city's main hospitals said he had received 25 corpses and 154 injured since the unrest began.

'Gunshot wounds, machete injuries, those are the two main types,' said Dr Aboi Madaki, director of clinical services at Jos University Teaching Hospital.

The overall toll was expected to be higher, with some victims already buried and others taken to other clinics.

People who ventured out walked with their hands in the air to show they were unarmed.

'They are still picking up dead bodies outside. Some areas were not reachable until now,' said Al Mansur, a 53-year-old farmer who said all the homes around his had been razed.

Overturned and burnt-out vehicles littered the streets while several churches, a block of houses and an Islamic school in one neighbourhood were gutted by fire.

The Red Cross said around 7,000 people had fled their homes and were sheltering in government buildings, an army barracks and religious centres.

Probably not very politically correct to say what I am about to say, but then being politically correct is what helped create this abomination to begin with.
I am sick and tired of everyone bending over so as not to offend islam/muslims. My personal opinion is to round up every muslim in the world and ship them back to their country and nuke it until it glows. They are like a plague on the face of the earth and I think if we could view the earth from space we would see them covering it like locusts destroying everything in their path. I say we show them about as much tolerance for their beliefs as they show us.

"The Archbishop of Jos, Rt Rev. Ben Kwashi, issued an urgent plea for prayer on the first day of violence. “Please pray for us in Jos, we are being attacked by Muslims.” Mentioning the link with the local elections, he added, “Why Christians must pay for this I do not know.” On Saturday, he reported, “The Muslims are attacking and burning this morning. It looks well coordinated. They are well armed with AK47 and pump machine guns. This morning they have been at Dogonduste. Quite a number of Christian homes have been burnt. We do not know how many have been killed.”

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has denied allegations that its group started the attack, and appealed to all the people of the state to be calm. Most Rev. Ignatius Kaigama, the chairman of CAN in Plateau State, commented, “We were taken aback by the turn of events in Jos. We thought it was political, but from all indications it is not so. We were surprised at the way some of our churches and property were attacked and some of our faithful and clergy killed. The attacks were carefully planned and executed. The questions that bog our minds are why were churches and clergy attacked and killed? Why were politicians and political party offices not attacked if it were a political conflict? Why were the business premises and property of innocent civilians destroyed? We strongly feel that it was not political but pre-meditated act under the guise of elections.”

The Americans and the British should be the last people in the world to say anything about this, they are the ones who supported the Muslim north against Biafra when the Christians had had enough of of being bullied by the Muslim hordes. Israel was the only country to support Biafra. Read about it and weep. Similarly, the Americans warned off England when they wanted to send in their navy to stop the Muslims driving the Cypriot Orthodox out of the north. There are another dozen instances since WWII where the US has been on the side of the Muslims, Yugoslavia only the latest example, perhaps the US has finally learned where helping Muslims leads.
