FEUDAL NEW YORK

If this draconian tax plan goes through we have to move. Seriously. This is slavery.
GOV'S TAX & SPEND SHOCKER
ADDS 137 HIKES WHILE INCREASING BUDGET TO $121B
ALBANY - Gov. Paterson yesterday socked New Yorkers with a mind-boggling 137 proposed new and hiked taxes on everything from beer to cab rides to iTunes downloads and movie tickets.
The doomsday, $121.1 billion plan represents the biggest tax hike in state history and slashes services across the board - while still increasing spending by $1.4 billion.

Read the whole thing.
And Bradshaw sent this pearl along: Today's Nic Kristoff column is ridiculous.
Here's the quote that gets me: "One of industry's objections is that soft drinks aren't the only problem. That's true, and I'd love to see a "Twinkie tax" as well."
The nanny staters keep using over-hyped health or environmental concerns as an excuse to climb inside our kitchen cabinets and tax everything in there. Equating soda pop with cigarettes? Sure, and potato chips equal cocaine.
ATLAS FOR SENATOR! I WOULD CUT TAXES. I WOULD TAKE ON THE TEACHERS UNIONS! I WOULD GIVE THE POOR SCHOOL VOUCHERS! I WOULD CUT SOCIAL SERVICES!
PLATFORM:
I would pass anti-Jihad legislation. I would kill gun control. There
would be no CAIR leadership sitting on any human rights boards.
I
promise I would cut entitlement benefits. I would shut bad schools. I
would give school vouchers to the poor families. I would lift all
restrictions on small businesses - let free markets rein. All smoking
in bar bans lifted. No congestion tax. I would
not ban transfats from NYC restaurants. I would kill property taxes. I
would fire 50% of social service workers - they make up what? One in
four workrs in the NYC labor force? Let them get real jobs.
C'mon guys -- what do I have to do? Who is selling the seat? Must be Schumer he is so frickin dirty.
If the unqualified can get picked, so can I! So can he!
PICK ME! PICK ME!

Sorry Pamela This is New York. Governor Paterson is only considering Unqualified people. I do have an idea to get Ms Kennedy out of the Picture. Appoint her to the Illinois spot. We got Hilary SHE is from Illinois, so let them take Caroline. Why do we have to have two carpet baggers in a row?

We will be visiting NYC over the holidays before things start to really go down hill. Do you want a ride out of town?

hey pamela,
i don't know if political office is your best bet.
i think journalism is your gift. but hey,it'd be great to see you at press conferences just slamming the idiots. that, we would relish.
i certainly can't get with the smoking thing. and as for social workers, hey, they gotta make a living, and they help people. i know a number of them. they work in institutions like hospitals etc and help people alot.
still, you might enjoy politics. it's all the fund raising and, well, political stuff that's a drag.
you're great when you can cut loose and be creative and do your truly great journalistic work.

Pamela, I am guessing this is sarcasm as we all know how much chance you would have of being appointed by Patterson but Queen Kennedy or whoever else it may be will have to stand for re-election in a couple of years.
You definetly have my vote and sign me up as a campaign volunteer. A true patriot running for NY Senate. As Caroline's uncle said, "Some men see things as they are and say why, I see things the way they should be and say, why not"?
I say, Pamela, why not!

CSC — The common-sense candidate: I like that!
New York GOP, take note!
And in the presidential elections of 2012,
let's have a… Palin/Pamela ticket!
