""At what point shall we expect the approach of danger? By what means shall we fortify against it? Shall we expect some transatlantic military giant to step the Ocean and crush us at a blow? Never! All the armies of Europe, Asia and Africa combined, with all the treasure of the earth (our own excepted) in their military chest; with a Buonaparte for a commander, could not by force, take a drink from the Ohio, or make a track on the Blue Ridge, in a trial of a thousand years. At what point then is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us, it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide." - From Abraham Lincoln's Address Before the Young Men's Lyceum of Springfield, Illinois, January 27,
Daniel Pipes, Yaron Brook, and Caroline Glick

LIVEBLOGGING:
Pipes speaks first "Israel in under the highest threat of violence than any other country"
Under highest levels assault - no other country in history has ever been under this constant threat"
the goal - eliminate Israel - not all threats armed
WMD
arming Egypt
economic warfare (boycotts etc)
demographic warfare (right of return)
Striking debate in full blossom now - "Should Israel be allowed to exist?"
a debate that appeared closed - especially after Oslo - looked like Zionism had been accepted
Why now?
turning away from Israel of the left
the rise of radical Islam
and the mistakes Israel and the US has made
What the Israelis have been doing is been trying to make peace with someone who wants your demise.
you can only make peace with former enemies - those that have accepted your existence
"victory through deterrence"
since 1993 - an exceptional change in policy not deterrence but appeasement
they withdrew from Lebanon, withdrew from Gaza - and what did it get them? war
there is no one on the Israeli scene who is speaking of victory
this is the terrible mistake Israel is making
It's either Israel wins and achieves acceptance or Israel loses and ceases to exist
until victory has been achieved
Yaron Brook:
How the Bush administration is leaving Israel
Post 9/11 the most important thing a US president could do was name the enemy. Islamic totalitarian, radical Islam, whatever you want to call
You must know who you are fighting if order to fight
The greatest threat to America and Israel is Iran
he is not an advocate of bombing a few nuclear sites - not what a US administration that is responsible for US security should do -- the US
they are a suicidal regime - that regime needs to be taken out. Not played with and certainly not negotiated with.
Israel is the only country in the middle east aligned with the US. they only country that shares our values. The only country on a day to day basis fighting this war.
First thing we need to recognize is that Israel is our only ally in that region and all that implies.
Israel needs our moral support. They need to be encouraged. We need to encourage Israel to destroy Hamas. We should encourage Israel to destroy hezb'Allah. this is part of a much wider war. This is a global ideology - this is our war.
We are engaged in a war - victory is the only option.
All negotiation should be stopped until victory is achieved
I believe Obama is the most anti-American president ever elected.
he is committed to appeasement. He is committed to the Palestinians
This thought for soul searching Republicans - the most important thing we must do is revivethe idea of American exceptionalism What is it that makes this country as great as it is. it is not being taught in the schools, spoken of in the media -- we need to create an educational program. We need to give them those words, those ideas.
If we are going to fight Islamic totalitarianism we must believe in ourselves.
CAROLINE GLICK ON ISRAEL ELCTIONS:
Glick wanted to correct a misconception: Israel is not the largest recipient of foreign aid by a long shot. Israel only receives military aid and that is far surpasssed by others ..... Pakistan for one.
The Arab/Soviet/Euro narrative has been mendaciously altered -- the true motive of the war on the Jews -- claiming it was not the Arab rejection of Israel - but the absence of a Palestinian state.
Rabin made an enormous mistake in 93 when he accepted some culpablity.
Israel is not to blame. The Arabs are responsible for refusing to recognize Israel's right to exist.
The Jews are at fault - despite the fact that you can't leave your house, or live in fear being slaughterd by an Islamic terrorist - doesn't matter - it's the Jews fault. Despite, the land, the money, the support for the "Palestinian" state ----
Likud is saying we cannot negotiate Golan, Jerusalem, Judea, Sumaria -- we need defensible borders.
Glick, "this is not enough"
Glick is sees dire consequences of an Obama adminstration. She is ticking off the anti-semitic histories of Zbigniew
the recent revelation of Malley meeting with Hamas
Joe Ciccone is an open Jew hater and advocates for Israe to nuclearl disarm
This is in a nutshell what we will be getting from the Obama administration. We cannot soft pedal this...
This peace process is a fraud. We mist stratgize for victory against our enemies.
The Palestinians are not interested in statehood. The US must understand this. We cannot adopt the failed policies of a "two state solution" that has led to so much We have to prepare the intellectual framework.
We must be able to make these arguments. Clear coherent targuments made by American conservative facing a very hostile Obama administration
Question and Answer session:
Lt Governor Kinder Bernie Goldberg
Lt Governor Peter Kinder: Asking what a Rahm Emanuel
Glick: "It's very easy to appeal to the borscht belt in America with schmaltz".Emanuel was Jewish hatch man under Clinton. Clinton adm deeply hostile to a secure Israel -- "a court Jew" - not someone that supprts a strong Israel -m Glick is disgusted and concerned with that appointment
Pipes takes the opposing view -- that Obama chose a Jew born is Jerusalem for such a high position - is important
(I completely disagree with Pipes on this - Jewish birth means nothing)
Bernie Goldberg: How can you defeat Arab fundamentalists?
Pipes thinks you can crush their will -
(in order to "crush their will" - you have to crush their ideology ......Atlas)
Glick says we should look to Iraq ... they have opportunities they never had. Iraq is an indication that you can succeed.
(In this I disagree with Glick ...... what about the Assyrian Christians)
Yaron Brook disagreed with Glick and Pipes. Brook thinks they must be crushed militarily. He thinks Iraq is not a success and will be unrecognizable in ten years - Brook faulted the way we executed that war. Further he believes Iraq will be a more serious enemy of the US in the future than Saddam ever was.
