It's kind of jarring to see a Democrat asked tough questions. I think Senator Hairplugs was expecting a bunch of softballs. Imagine if Obama had been grilled, just once, like this during the primaries, instead of "Do you have any doubts?(pant, pant)"

rishika

Incredible!!! This woman is awesome. Hats off to Barbara West! Every one of her questions was better than the one before, and when she got to the Marx one I thought I was dreaming.
Make no mistake, American brothers and sisters -

How many G7 nations have a populace of over 40% third world blood????????? (80% within a generation)

They have now clearly reached critical mass. (Check the bubbling cauldron.)

Love the site, but you're pissing into the wind.

Expatriate!!! The water's fine.

TINBH

This journalist is going to need protection. A fund should be started to help her out.

Two more questions she should have asked:

"Senator Biden, do you ever have any sleepless nights thinking about the 2 million Cambodians murdered by their own progressive-socialist-utopian government -that you and your fellow travelers helped to establish?

Will you and your fellow US socialists in the democrat party apologize to the survivors of Cambodian fratricide and general misery of Southeast Asia?"

riverman

Good points TINBH and I don't understand why no one ever asks these communists about Obama's participation in the bombing campaign associated with divestment in South Africa or how many times he had gay sex with that liberal elitist.

Pavlov's dog

I agree that it is refreshing to see a mainstream journalist who is not participating in the Obama slobberfest, but I think that B. West did a really lousy job.

When Bidden answered her accusation about ACORN with all those bald faced lies about their non-involvement, she never followed up. Instead she goes straight to the socialism accusation with a totally gratuitous quote from Marx. Joe Bidden made the most of this by asking her incredulously if she was "kidding." This probably diminished her credibility with the independents and made Bidden more attractive among those who are unaware of how much he was lying.

Seasoned politicians are prepared to respond to a wide variety of pointed questions. It is only the follow-up questions that are capable of tripping them up.

If West loses her job over this, I will not shed a tear. We need smarter journalists who can really put this dirtbags on the spot. Not hacks who cannot go beyond reading the questions they prepared ahead of time.

1. ""Absolutely not! The only person thas spread the wealth the around has been George Bush and John McCain's tax policy" - This is actually a lie. Bush and McCain's tax cuts concentrate the wealth on the wealthy. They don't spread the wealth around. The rich get more and the rest get to eat cake. For the results of these types of policies, see France 1793.

2. "And then goes on to say America's position is weakened in the world. We are stretched thin! We are in economic free fall! McCain was wrong on Iraq! [uh, the surge]" - It is entirely possible for us to still be the best but at the same time not as strong as we once were. The Obama campaign's drumbeat about McCain being wrong on Iraq is regarding the initial decision to go in. I'm not giving an opinion on this, just pointing out logical inconsistencies and the disregarding of certain facts.

3. "West then gets back to the spreading the wealth question, what does he think of the concern that Obama would want to turn this country into a socialist nation, much like Sweden?" - Oh NO! Not SWEDEN! Check out the democracy ratings and note where Sweden is. Now, I'm not saying Sweden's policies would work here, but come on... there are faaaar worse situations to be in than Sweden.

Didja see the angry look on Biden's face at the end of the interview, as if he's thinking: 'the stones of this woman, actually calling us out on what we've done and said'?
After months of de-facto shilling for the Obama camp by almost everyone in broadcast media, this woman has the unmitigated GALL to ask these questions?
Did anyone ever think we would see the day when fear of losing one's job, in the interest of objectivity and rationality, would actually be a possibility?
Does anyone doubt that the recent FLOOD of quislings scampering to the Obama camp in the last week is an indication of the FEAR of retribution in the future?

billyben

I'm new here & probably won't be back. Too much fundamentalist dogma here (not meant in the religious sense). I'm just a simple guy here in Missouri and I like open-minded discussions without screaming.

I am surprised at the reactions. These were not "calling us out" or "asking tough questions". This was not anything remotely resembling journalism. If Keith Olbermann had gone down a similar path with Palin he'd be fired (not a bad thing, frankly). I'm with Biden in asking if this was a joke.

ACORN is a red herring. They register voters, and their paid staff have an incentive to make up names. That's a bad thing. Their management is the source of the news that some of the names are false. That's a far cry from voter fraud. There is no evidence that anyone is trying to fraudulently cast a ballot via ACORN.

The outgoing administration is simultaneously the most fascist and most socialist in history. I'm willing to give Obama a chance. I don't think Adelman, Brooks, Fried, Parker, Will, etc. are quislings. I think they recognize that Obama is the best of the two for the current times. I happen to agree. I'm an economic conservative & social liberal. I don't like all of Obama's policies. I jumped across because he has shown a willingness, indeed a desire, to listen to contrary opinions and try to get to the root of the issues, unlike the mindless "you're with us or against us" closed-minded approach that's been dominating the Republican party recently.

I am proud of my country. Rereading the Federalist Papers brings tears of pride to my eyes that our founders were willing to provide us with a means of governance based on the rule of law with checks and balances. I'm anguished at the absurd direction Bush has gone and truly believe we should unite behind Obama. If we don't like his policies, speak out. But he's going to be our next president and he's going to help us restore pride in America and boost our international standing.

timrfrench61

Now what I would like to see is someone respond to the Obama campaign's response with the following questions

1. So are you saying being an organizer is a bad thing?
2. So are you saying being an organizer for ACORN is a bad thing?
3. So you're saying being compared to Karl Marx is a bad thing?
4. So you're saying being a communist is a bad thing?

...and then use that against him for the rest of his carreer... and attacking his previous associations of any degree...

Ayn Rand at 100: "Yours is the Glory"

  • Aynrandstamp_1

  • Speaking to the unnamed, unchampioned, beating heart of her new land, Ayn was to say: 'Yours is the glory.'"
A man whose ability and independence leads others to reject him, but who perseveres nevertheless to achieve his values. Man as an individual, as a creator. What's the most depraved type of human being? Not a sadist or a murderer or a sex maniac or a dictator; "The man without a purpose." Yet most people seem to go through their lives without a clearly defined purpose.

  • Life has Loveliness to sell,
    All beautiful and splendid things,
Blue waves whitened on a cliff,
Soaring fires that sways and swing,
    And children's faces looking up,
    Holding wonder like a cup

    Life has Loveliness to sell,
Music like a curve of Gold,
Scent of pinetrees in the rain,
Eyes that love you, arms that hold,
And for your spirit's still delight,
Holy stars that star the night.

Spend all you have for loveliness,
    Buy it and never count the cost;
For one white singing hour of Peace
Count many a year of strife well lost
And for a breath of ecstasy
Give all you have been, or could be.
