The Good News is the meeting of the pessimists, the clinically depressed and the deranged has come to a
close. The better news, the Republican National Convention gets last licks and Atlas will be there.

OORAH! Atlas is an official blogger of the Republican National Convention. Which still doesn't mean to much to the RNC, they don't understand the bloggers and the role we play in our small influential way. Check out the clueless at the RNC. If I want internet access it will cost me .... NUTS! They are charging bloggers what they charge the dinosaur media. That's right, Atlas pays what CNN and ABC pays. Genius! The RNC letter advised me to contact Qwest to order voice or Internet services:
Qwest will provide high-speed Internet access via an Ethernet connection within the Convention Complex.
This service is for public Internet access only. This service does not provide any security capabilities or protections. The customer should ensure that any computers connected are properly protected and secured.
Qwest will provide the customer with a RJ45 plug for each 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps service and a fiber optic SC/PC connector for each 1 Gbps service. The service does not provide any hardware or cabling beyond the plug. The RJ45 cabling provided will be approximately 6ft in length.
- 10 Mbps (Dedicated) - $850.00
- 100 Mbps (Dedicated) - $7,650.00
- 1 Gbps (Dedicated) - $53,550.00
Looks like I won't be logging on their T1 any time soon. Good thing I have my trusty USB PC wireless card. Video uploads might be slow but in they assure me:
..... all will have hard-wired access at no cost in our state-of-the-art press filing center.
Atlas coverage of the RNC.You are going to love it. I'll be liveblogging and hobnobbing (WTF is that anyway?) the whole trip. I took the RNC up on their housing offer so that I might enjoy a substantial discount on my hotel, which is the good news. The bad news is the hotel is in the next state. Not quite but practically. BUT still, I am psyched.
UPDATE: Atlas reader Joe has a small coffee and internet cafe close by the excel in St. Paul, told me his t1 line is mine anytime.l.... excellent. He writes me, "Please forgive our city council for being communists. AS a matter of fact, for some good reading on that topic, may I recommend the blog of shotinthedark? He's a local with some great insight into the convention and the local morons (read: elected officials) who are trying to milk the GOP for every centavo they can"
I love the blogs. More than that, I love my readers. Big time. Huge.
