Wexler seeks to reassure Jewish Hillary Clinton supporters that Barack Obama is OK on Israel  Sun Sentinel hat tip Cindy

With Barack Obama on the verge of locking up the Democratic presidential nomination, his most prominent Florida supporter turned his attention today to a pivotal group of voters for the November election: Jewish supporters of Hillary Clinton.

Robert Wexler, congressman from Delray Beach, delivered his seal of approval to a bastion of Clinton support, Kings Point in Tamarac, home to thousands of Jewish retirees who are among the most reliable voters anywhere at turning out for elections.

It's a vital constituency. If Jewish Democrats in Broward and Palm Beach counties don't vote Democratic in the fall, many in the political world - including Wexler, who represents Kings Point and several similar condominium communities in the region - acknowledge it is difficult, if not impossible, for a candidate to win Florida in November.

For many reasons, including email-fed rumors and a lack of familiarity, some Jewish voters are wary of Obama.

Even Marc Sultanof, vice mayor of Tamarac and president of the Kings Point Democratic Club, said he raised the issue with Wexler before the congressman began a town hall meeting today at the Kings Point Clubhouse.

"I said, 'I'm concerned,'" Sultanof said. "I said, 'I just want to hear it from you.'" He said Wexler delivered the same assurance he provided to about 300 Kings Point residents gathered at the Clubhouse. "I'm comfortable now, at this point," Sultanof said.

State Sen. Jeremy Ring, D-Parkland, who has been neutral between Clinton and Obama, said concerns in the Jewish community are a big problem for Obama, now that it seems almost certain he will be the party's nominee.

"For my district, Obama has a problem with the heavily Jewish population," said Ring, who represents Coral Springs, Margate, North Lauderdale, Parkland, Tamarac and sections of Coconut Creek, Lauderhill, Oakland Park, Pompano Beach.

"They are very concerned, and we hear it constantly. It is very significant."

He said there's enough time for Obama to overcome the hesitation.

Obama, he said, is a "110 percent" supporter of Israel on a range of issues relating to that country's status as America's No. 1 ally in the Middle East and on the need to ensure its security.

Wexler didn't wait for the audience to ask; he raised the issue himself. "I want to answer one question. I would not be involved with a presidential candidate that was anything other than 100 percent supportive of the state of Israel."

You are right to be concerned. Wexler was out front defending Clinton after all the lies about the Monica affair and the election ruckus in the Bush/Gore "chad" mess.
So his judgement is highly suspect.

We don't need assurances from these suckups with alterior motives. We need the candidate, that's you O-man, to stand up and tell us how he expects to solve the mid-east crises. We don't need more politicians telling us that the mideast conflict between Israel and the Muslims needs to be solved because it is an "infection".
Find the solution and then come back to us for your vote, or go back to your million dollar home in Chicago and sit on the front porch with your circle of friends - those vile little communists, unrepentant terrorist America-haters and other assorted anti-semites.

Un-bloody-believable. Obama must have promised Wexler some serious pork for this. For a man to stand there in public and KNOWINGLY lie to people like that, especially elderly people.... Wexler has NO SHAME.

The late, great President Ronald Reagan was right when he said, "....politics is the second oldest profession in the world and unfortunately, it bears a striking resemblence to the oldest."

Wexler's baldfaced lies is an example par excellance of Reagan's quote.
