Chaldean Archbishop Found Dead After Iraq Kidnapping (Update1)

March 13 (Bloomberg) -- A Chaldean Catholic archbishop kidnapped in northern Iraq last month has been found dead, the information service of the Italian bishops' conference said.    

The archbishop of Mosul, Paulos Faraj Rahho, was abducted on Feb. 29, the SIR service said. Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al- Maliki had called for the release of the archbishop.    

``Monsignor Rahho is dead. We found him lifeless near Mosul. His abductors buried him,'' SIR cited the auxiliary bishop of Baghdad, Shlemon Warduni, as saying.    

Chaldean Catholics make up the largest community of Christians in Iraq, Agence France-Presse said. There were as many as 800,000 in the country before the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003, though many have been killed or kidnapped by Sunni and Shiite Islamists and criminal gangs since then, the news service said.   

Pope Benedict XVI was ``deeply saddened'' by news of the death of the archbishop of Mosul, a Vatican spokesman told reporters today in Rome

We have tried our best, for the better part of a decade, to interest Christian organisations in the plight of Christians in Moslem countries......with very little success.

If only the Sudanese, Iraqi, Syrian and Lebanese Christians had sent a few million dollars to Robertson, Schuller, etc. they would matter. They didn't...and they don't.
