Here’s Rush’s endorsement of Romney.

RUSH: I think now, based on the way the campaign has shaken out, that there probably is a candidate on our side who does embody all three legs of the conservative stool, and that’s Romney. The three stools or the three legs of the stool are national security/foreign policy, the social conservatives, and the fiscal conservatives. The social conservatives are the cultural people. The fiscal conservatives are the economic crowd: low taxes, smaller government, get out of the way.

Of course, the foreign policy crowd is obviously what it is. I don’t think there’s anybody on our side who doesn’t care about national security, which is why I found it amazing that McCain gets the bulk of those, because the idea that Romney or Huckabee are going to punt national security? In Huckabee’s case, you might just say the things he’s saying about it represent an ignorance born of inexperience in the subject. I don’t think Huckabee has any deleterious intentions about the country. When it comes to the fiscal side, you cannot say — you just cannot say — that John McCain is interested. He’s even admitted he’s not interested in the social side. He’s not interested in the economic side. He said this, and when he has spoken up about it, he sides more often with liberal Democrats on fiscal issues than he does with his own side. That’s problematic. This is why I think — and why I have said — that the Republican Party, not conservatism, but the Republican Party is in big trouble if it is empowered and gets elected by attracting people who also hold liberal Democrat views simply because they like McCain because of his character, his honor, his prisoner of war story, and they don’t like Hillary or Obama.

This is clearly the case. And generally speaking, my instincts agree with the way too hip and sexy for her shirts, Ms. Atlas on McCain. If his aggravatingly repetitive campaign rap is any indication of how lax he is in keeping himself up on the issues of the day, so it gives him something new to say (not!), it just goes to show that he hasn't got a hell of a lot going for him upstairs, nor much of anything at all on the ball.

So we'd be stuck for another 4 or 8 years with just one more lap-dummy of a Charlie McCarthy for the Edgar Bergen RNC, of Haley Barber, James Baker and that whole lousy reactionary raft of damn near omnipotent power brokers for whom the ethics of conservatism are either a complete mystery or highly suspect as a Trojan Horse liberal agenda. Without ethics conservatism is Dachau and Gitmo. Want to see the faces of those who turned Jewish skin to lampshades at Buchenwald? Dig those crazy photos from Abu Ghraib--it's the same damned dirty face of conservatism without ethics.

On Gitmo and waterboarding McCain has touched a nerve with principled conservatives, which explains the leading position he holds in the polls, the tally of Jewish and Christian Pro-Life delegates he's racked up so far. This is an issue that transcends right/left politics and goes straight to hearts and souls and no damn where else. See the refusal of a super-Lib like Chuck Schumer to condemn such practices across the waterboard. Where you share in your views with a leftie like Schumer, you better start being suspicious of your self!

In view of a Jewish experience of such things (I am presently reading the autobiography of Chaim Wiezmann, and loving it to pieces) I can only conclude that something is seriously unkosher in the consciousness of a Jew like Schumer. I guess he never cared to really find out that there is more to the Holocaust than just some holy icon or idol worthy of lip service. He needs to get his cyber-butt over to Amazon to order a couple of books in order to get his heart screwed in right.

I'll just venture to say this: Anyone Jewish who does not have the equivalent of the experience (and/or knowledge) contained in those two life shaking memoirs, okay, this is a Jew who needs to get in line behind the "No-Circ" boys and Chuck Schumer, in order that some plastic surgeon should give them their ערלה back--and they shouldn't have any trouble going back to Wal-Mart to get a refund on their Bar Mitzvah either, seeing by the quality of it, they couldn't have got it anywhere else.

As you have trusted me to, as you say, "know what (you) mean" by all this, I wouldn't dream of violating it (your trust) by betraying the impression that I wouldn't have a clue. Not at all, not at all, your meaning could not be more plain. And whether it's the Freemasons or the Scientologists, the Space Aliens from Roswell or that Scandinavian coven of cooks in the General Mills Betty Crocker Kitchen up in Minneapolis--what the hell is the dif? That's what I'm here to ask, because so long as the Jews remain always and forever the scapegoat of choice around the world for all the troubles of the world, truly, the Masons and Space Aliens, those scheming cooks up in Minneapolis, none of them stands a chance to replace that trusty old ever so easily blamable Jew.

And while I might reply that you've got that right, in a deck full of nothing but the Queen of Spades--I hardly think there's anything immoral or uncommon or mysterious about it, insofar as it's not my pain, anger and wounded trust alone at issue here, but that of anyone blessed with the curse of a conscience.

Please do, so you can read the reviews, and most especially what they are saying about the Vrba memoir, then ask yourself when was the last time you heard people talking like that about a book, whether on this subject or any other? Trust me! You'll never in your life read a collection of book reviews like those.

It's not like I'm saying that a person absolutely *has to read* both those books in order to justify a claim to being fully hip to the human condition, fully awake to the presence of his or her own conscience. No, lots of people would not have the guts for it, as there is a limit to the extent some are willing to be horrified. So I would not suggest anything so tyrannical, cruel and absolutist as that. No. Not at all. There are alternative routes to the awakening of a truly human heart and soul. Forget the books! You could try totally trading places with somebody like Daniel Pearl, to put your mind in the same kind of space. But say you could step into the sandals and chains of some sad captive down in one of those cages at Gitmo--would that bring you up to snuff on "anger, lack of trust and pain"--as it had been for the authors of those two books and for Daniel Pearl?

No, it would not be the same, not even had you been completely not guilty as charged. And no matter how sad a guy like Pearl would feel for you down there in your orange jump-suit, the reason for your being there is entirely different than for Daniel: it was no case of mistaken identity, no matter of false charges for him: he was a Jew and guilty as charged. He was executed for nothing he had ever done, but for something he could do nothing about. For the accused Islamic Jihadi, the charge has to do entirely with what he is accused of doing, not with who or what he is charged as being; he is charged with a thing he can do something about through an appeal to reason and justice.

For Daniel Pearl, as for any Jew in this world there had been no appeal to justice possible. And that is the subject of these two recommended books, wherein it is shown, if not in so many words, then one reads it nevertheless by a pure process of logic, just exactly what it was that made Israel the only justice possible, and given the courage of the Jewish people, inevitable as a decree of judgment concerning the guilt of the whole world. Only trouble is that till now, the world still as yet refuses to plead guilty, confess to its crime, stand up to the judgment of its punishment and take it like a man--so Israel is resented, and the crime, ever so obtusely, goes on.

So, like I say, you wouldn't have to read any such books as these with titles like, "Escape from Auschwitz: I Cannot Forgive" and "Eyewitness Auschwitz: Three Years in the Gas Chambers"--if in any case your own life's experience shall have taught you the same thing, the main thing you have to know about how cold justice must in some cases be, in view of your fellow man, and what he can be, as per the degree to which he may be trusted, forgiven, accepted and/or cherished as one's own?

Like any supporter of a "Palestinian State" (who would defeat the judgment of justice for the Jew) or any Palestinian (who will not stand up like a man and face his part in the guilt of the world), like him you can continue to go through life thinking yourself perfectly innocent of a sin original with your fathers and perpetuated in you through their refusal to repent of it, and in this state of perfect ignorance about the sort of "anger, pain and lack of trust" that had forced Jews like Chaim Weizmann, Ben Gurion, Golda Meir, Jabotinsky, Yigael Yadin, Avraham Stern and Menachim Begin from perfect necessity of pure survival to declare war, in a police action against the whole world through the re-establishment of the state of Israel--thus by your ignorance, you are blessed to be the victim of the hatred it must only breed in a heart without a conscience to govern it, and in that state of darkness you choose, you can go on trying for all you're worth to persecute him who has justly, by pure force of history and its necessity become the victor over the world--as in your state of compassionless resentment over a just judgment you are nevertheless free to continue kicking against the traces instead of standing up straight to share fully in the joy of a victory that has always intended from the beginning to leave no victims, but to embrace citizens in a state of shared peace and prosperity under one beautiful blue and white banner, the bravest and most blessed ever over the face of the whole earth.
