Obama on Farrakhan
Seems like Hussein Obama was dancing as fast as he could last night around the Farrakhan lovefest. Even Hillary (schmuck!) let him off the hook. Kudos to Althouse for calling Obama and Hillary out on it here. Obama making hay of demagoguery. Smooth indeed.
Obama, Farrakhan, and how Hillary Clinton took the opening and then squandered it. hat tip Mara
What happened in the debate last night when Tim Russert confronted Barack Obama about Louis Farrakhan? In real time, I thought that Obama failed to denounce Farrakhan and that Hillary Clinton caught it and confronted him. It was the single most impressive thing I've seen Hillary Clinton do in the debates. But then Obama managed to cloud things up and make her point seem silly, and she backed down.
Now, let's look at the transcript:
Go. Althouse goes through the transcript line by line. Great stuff.

Hussein Obama can repudiate Louis Eugene Walcott AKA Calypso Louie Farrakhan all he wants but the fact remains that Calypso Louie's endorsement reveals to the world what Hussein Obama stands for and is all about. In a normal worl that would have been the kiss of death for Barak Hussein the black muslim, but noooo, the Americans seem to be numb and dumb!
Shrillary Rotten Cliton is too enamored with the radical left and blatant Jew hatred to have caught that fine point. She must have been reminiscing her french kiss with SewerRat Arafat after SewerRat made a speech telling how the Israeelis are poisoning the water they send to gaza and putting aids virus into the chewing gum we send to gaza!

OK, just a fair question about this whole Barack HUSSEIN Obama business. I just heard a talking head saying that Obama is ashamed to use his middle name. There is an obsession with using it by right-wingers, especially on blogs.
My question is simply this: how many politicians DO use their middle names regularly? Hillary dropped the maiden name "Rodham" which she clung to for so long, and does anyone even know McCain's middle name off the top of their heads? How many middle names of Senators does anyone reading this know? Other than Pamela, who does keep track of these things and does have a rather remarkable memory, does anyone else?
If it is that unusual to use or even know the middle names of candidates and other Senators, why keep harping on the "Hussein" in Obama's? People get it, they know it by now, can we not move on?
Thank you.

McCain's middle name is Sidney, same as his father, 4 star admiral John Sidney McCain II, and his grandfather, 4 star admiral John Sidney McCain.
Why does Pamela harp on Obama's middle name? Because she believes it to be impossible that someone whose parents gave him a Muslim middle name (as opposed to his Arabic (and Hebrew!!) first name Barack) is not a Muslim. Frankly, that line of thought is ridiculous. He's not a Muslim, but he probably has more sympathy than others because of his heritage; just like he might have more sympathy towards white Kansans because of his heritage.
The real issue is not Farrakhan's "endorsement"; it is that Obama continues to refuse to resign from a church that awarded Farrakhan status as its "Person of the Year" last year (at least the Church magazine did). Can you imagine the uproar if Hillary didn't resign from a church that gave a similar honor to David Duke?? Or to Yasser Arafat?? (Or, to put it on a level that the left can understand (with apologies to the Justice), to Antonin Scalia)?) It's the same thing - and that is the real issue. You can "denounce" Hitler or you can "reject" Hitler, but if you don't resign from the Nazi party, you are still complicit in Hitler's actions.

Harcourt, You are wrong. I am not harping on his middle name and it's not any one thing but a pile of troubling facts.
The fact that he is lying about his upbringing is a problem. His alliances are a problem. His foreign policy advisers are a problem.
The fact that discussing it is the third rail and one is immediately labeled a racist and islamophobe is a problem.
Go here
The middle name is the least of it ..... and I have not harped on it. We are not allowed to even question it while in the midst of a terrible war.
You do CAIR's bidding. Good luck with that.
Wake up!

Pamela - I am certainly NOT doing CAIR's bidding. I am also in no way a supporter of Obama (I, like John Bolton, happen to support his Republican opposition - and, to not do so now, is to support Obama and CAIR).
I agree wholeheartedly that Obama's alliances are a big problem (in fact, I raise it above that the real issue in the Farrakhan thing is not that he's allied with Farrakhan - he's not - but that he won't risk losing the tangential Farrakhan supporters by resigning from his racist church).
I also agree wholeheartedly that his foreign policy advisors are a problem and I've said it on this site before. Zbiggy is the guy that advised Dhimmi Carter to allow the Shah to be deposed and bring in the Ayatollah as a "saviour" for the region. Yeah, that worked.
I also agree wholeheartedly that you can't say one year that the Palis are the most oppressed people on Earth, and then the next year say that you support the Israelis. You also can't say that you support the Israelis, but not their use of "oppressive" force - which he said obliquely the other day.
But Obama did not go to a religious Madrassa and he is not denying that his grandfather was a Muslim convert or that his father was a non-practicing Muslim. Nor is he denying that he smoked dope or did cocaine.
Calling him "Hussein" only lends support to libs and CAIRites who point out that we are overstating the case against Obama by resorting to fearmongering about his middle name.
You are right - the middle name is the least of it - so why focus on it so much as if it is the only thing?? By calling him "Hussein Obama", you do just that. Isn't "Barack" enough of a Muslim name to serve that purpose? Calling him "Hussein" links him to Saddam Hussein - and that gives the CAIR supporters ammo to call foul. Why give them more ammo when they are already wearing bomb belts?
It is obvious that Obama has sympathy for the Muslim cause as a result of his background, but he's not a Manchurian candidate. No one's saying you can't question it, but you are feeding CAIR red meat if you bandy about the "Hussein" tagline - because then they just say that he's not a Muslim and that you are trying to scare people into thinking he is.
Focus on the fact that he refuses to resign from a racist church that supports Farrakhan - who cares if the award was for the "Minister's" good works - even David Duke (spit) probably does some charitable community works for impoverished Holocaust deniers - but if Huckabee's church gave an award to David Duke, can you imagine for one second that it wouldn't be the headline on CNN morning, noon and night??
Focus on the language that Obama uses to describe his support of Israel. There's no question that he doesn't support the right of Israel to exist and defend itself. But so does King Hussein of Jordan. It is the language of the Streisand Jews (that I've posted here recently) which should be focused on because it is not speculation or innuendo - he simply would support a capitulating Israel and not a Likud-led Israel or an Israel responding to daily missile attacks by Hamasholes.
Focus on the fact that he said 2 nights ago that he would re-invade Iraq if he found out that Al Queda (spit) were colonizing there. Is he so blind that he cannot see??
Focus on the fact that he's willing to meet with Raul, Kim, Ahmadikkewad, etc. without any preconditions.
Focus on the fact that John McCain was patriotically serving his country when Obama was in a dope-smoking funk about his role in the world.
Focus on the fact that Obama has not done a single meaningful thing as a legislator -ever! Focus on the fact that he was scared to take a stand and merely voted "present" at votes he thought would be bad for his career if he took a stand. We need someone this worried about appearances to run our country?
Focus on the fact that Obama is rising on "apology" politics - that people constantly have to apologize if they raise the spectre of racial issues and that Obama gets to ride on those apologies.
All of these things, and more, are scary enough without raising the red herring of "Hussein" Obama, which will just backfire when he points out that he attends a Christian church and accepts Jesus.
So, wake up yourself! Screaming hysterically about the wrong issues work as propaganda, and fund-raising, for the other side. Good luck with that.
Fondly,
Harcourt

One last thing, I'm not saying that you can't call Obama a liar for lying about listing his religion as "Muslim" in the past. Lying is fine as a target. But chanting "Hussein, Hussein, Hussein" is not necessary for this and it just clouds your honest inquiry into whether he lied about being a Muslim and whether, improbably, he remains a Muslim, and not a Christian, today. Even if he did learn Muslim prayer as a child, there are plenty of yeshiva buchers and catholic school attendees who don't pay much attention to the religion of their youth, and, in fact, rebel against it. Look at Kathy Lee Bernstein and Bob Novak.
