This travesty blew my socks off when I appeared on Political Pistachio last night. We need a thousand folks in Russell's district to write in. NOW! NOW! NOW! Dougals Gibb has the story behind the usurpation of the will of the American people:

Dirty Politics. That is a common practice by Democratic Candidates. Hillary Clinton is now using a tactic the press calls the "Kitchen Sink Strategy" because in her desperation of trying to stop the rise of Barack Hussein Obama, it seems like she is throwing everything at him but the kitchen sink.

John Murtha is another cheating, lying, unscrupulous politician that will do anything in his power to ensure his 34 year reign in the United States Congress continues.

John Murtha's years in Congress have been spotted with scandals. In 1980 Murtha became embroiled in the Abscam investigation. He was videotaped participating in unethical activities, but ultimately was never indicted or charged. He agreed to testify against Frank Thompson (D-NJ) and John Murphy (D-NY), the two Congressmen mentioned as participants in the scandal, who were videotaped placing cash bribes in their trousers. The FBI videotaped Murtha responding to an offer of $50,000, with Murtha saying, "I'm not interested... at this point. If we do business for a while, maybe I'll be interested, maybe I won't." After that Murtha offered to provide names of businesses and banks in his district where money could be invested legally. The U.S. Attorneys Office was of the opinion that Murtha's intentions were to obtain investment in his district. Yeah, right. Like I believe that.

When it came to America's entrance into the Battlefield in Iraq, Murtha voted in support for the October 2002 resolution authorizing the use of force against Saddam Hussein's Iraq. In early 2005 Murtha argued against the withdrawal of American troops from Iraq saying, "A premature withdrawal of our troops based on a political timetable could rapidly devolve into a civil war which would leave America’s foreign policy in disarray as countries question not only America’s judgment but also its perseverance."

Then, suddenly in late 2005 he changed his tune and said, "The U.S. cannot accomplish anything further in Iraq militarily. It is time to bring them home." He later indicated that he was calling for redeployment as opposed to a withdrawal to appease critics. I think he realized the rest of the lefties in the Democratic Party was believing that, and changed his tune so that he could be in goose-step right beside them.

He has also said that terrorists desire an American military presence in Iraq, proclaiming, "I think they’re trying to get this administration to stay. I think they want us there. Because we have united the Iraqis against us. We’re spending all this money and diverting our resources away from the war on terrorism because we’re involved in a civil war in Iraq."

After Karl Rove stated in response to Murtha's withdrawal statement, "After the United States cuts and runs from Iraq, what country in the Middle East would take us?" Murtha was asked by Tim Russert to respond. He said, "We can go to Okinawa. We can redeploy there almost instantly." Recently, however, even John Murtha has reluctantly admitted the troop surge in Iraq is working.

Then, after the Haditha Marines incident in November, 2005, of which nearly all of the Marines involved have been acquitted because the evidence does not jive with the Media's telling of the incident, and no wrong doing has been proven, Murtha said about our U.S. Marines in Iraq, ". . .they killed innocent civilians in cold blood. . ."

Murtha's "Cold Blooded Killers" remark sparked anger and rage among Republicans and Conservatives alike. William Russell has demanded John Murtha apologize for the remark. An apology has not been issued yet.

Now, Murtha is up to his dirty politics again, but now it is beyond comparison. In a court battle, Murtha has arranged to have his only opponent tossed off the ballot. This leaves no other Republicans to battle against Murtha, giving him a free path right back into the United States Congress.

Fellow Conservative Blogger, I ask that you rally behind William Russell. Blog about this unethical move by Murtha. Expose John Murtha as the coward he is, and let folks know what's going on. I urge that we begin a national effort to get Russell back on the ballot! We cannot vote in his district, but we can spread the word to have folks contribute to his campaign so that he has the funds to contact voters, and have them place him back on the ballot by writing Russell in on the April 22 primary ballot.

I was a fulltime Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Reserve, stationed at the Pentagon and a little over 2 years short of full, active duty retirement. Until March of 2007, my wife Kasia and I were looking forward to finishing out my Army career and moving to southern or southwestern Pennsylvania after I retired from the Army.

But last March I had the opportunity to meet with some of our Wounded Warriors during their visit to the Pentagon. I have always been impressed by the spirit and good cheer of so many of these wounded heroes but also understand the sullen responses from some. Seeing these Soldiers, Marines, and Airmen with missing and shattered limbs, two with missing eyes and wounded faces, I found myself wiping away the tears as I walked back to my office. I was both sadden and angered that the sacrifices these brave service men and women, like the others I have served with in combat, make for this country and the thought of how they are betrayed by the actions of politicians such as John Murtha.

But seeing those Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, and Airmen who have given so much to this nation, both enraged and saddened me. It also forced me to recognize that the United States is now engaged in a great political battle to determine whether this nation, founded in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal, can maintain the political resolve in its fight against a totalitarian political system, cloaked in religion, which is dedicated to the destruction of our liberty. I believe I must stand up and make a difference in this fight and not wait for two more years until I retire.

Congressman Murtha’s actions have done more to lead us toward political defeat in this war than the enemy could ever hope to accomplish by their own devices. His calls for withdrawal of our forces and limiting the authority of the Commander-in-Chief in executing this war, plays directly into the hands of our enemy. He is undermining our Soldiers in the fight and encourages the enemy to kill or maim a few more of our Soldiers and kill large numbers of Iraqi civilians on a weekly basis. The Islamic extremists, just like the communists in Vietnam, see his weakness of political resolve as the reason to keep fighting in spite of their military losses. He must be replaced with a candidate who understands the importance of an integrated political, military, and economic strategy that does not pit political ends against military and economic, but synchronizes and orchestrates them with the recognition of the imperative to achieve the victory that this war demands for the safety of our children and grandchildren.

Carolyn wrote me, "a noble war veteran of Iraq - William Russell - resigned from the Army in order to run against Murtha - only to be betrayed by the RNC.  TWO Republicans (count them!) went to court and demanded a judge disqualify Russell for insufficient valid signatures to place his name on the ballot.  Apparently - according to the Republicans - Russell had only 993 signatures of the 1000 needed.  Russell has been forced to drop out because he has no money to fight the court battle."

Where is the damn Republican National Party?

"That leaves Democratic John "I never met a Marine I didn't try to stab in the back" Murtha as the shoo-in candidate this November.  Murtha is unopposed by Democrats.  (And kissed in his pork barrel ass by the Republicans.)"

Murtha’s GOP opponent tossed off ballot

Republican William Russell knew that he faced an uphill battle when he decided to challenge longtime Democratic U.S. Rep. John Murtha.

Now, Russell’s battle may have ended before a single vote has been cast.

A Commonwealth Court judge on Tuesday ruled that Russell does not have enough valid petition signatures to appear on the April 22 primary ballot.

Russell, a veteran of both Iraq wars who quit his Army job and moved to Johnstown to run against Murtha, said he will not appeal.

“I don’t have the resources to fight a protracted court battle,” the former Washington, D.C., resident said.

With no other Republicans filing to run in the 12th Congressional District, Russell still has a chance to win his party’s nomination.

He would need at least 1,000 voters to write his name on primary ballots, and he would have to be the top vote-getter among any write-in candidates.

Russell is not sure whether he will campaign for write-in votes.

“We’ll make that decision in the coming days,” he said.

The challenge to Russell’s petitions came from two local Republicans and was backed by Murtha’s campaign.

Commonwealth Court Judge Robert Simpson ruled that Russell’s petitions contained only 993 valid signatures – seven short of the 1,000 needed.

Murtha, who has spent 34 years in the House, faces no Democratic challenger.

He will be unopposed in November unless Russell or another Republican can win enough write-in votes to gain a nomination in the primary."

We must help Bill Russell - he's an Iraq Vet who knows that Iraq MATTERS to our troops.
